A few months ago I finally upgraded my cell phone and went for a Samsung Omnia from Verizon. Before I bought it I read some reviews on it and tinkered around with others in the store and it was one of those “lesser of two evils” things where I couldn’t find anything that was perfect so I picked something that sucked the least.&amp;nbsp; One of the things about the omnia that I didn’t like was it came with Flash Lite 2.1..&amp;nbsp; after 3.1 was released.&amp;nbsp; Ah well.&amp;nbsp; So I tinkered around some with packaging some little apps that I created…

I had a very strange thing happen to me today.&amp;nbsp; One of my old friends called me to see how I was doing and he asked if I knew any db workers looking for a job.&amp;nbsp; I had to kind of stop for a moment and pinch myself.&amp;nbsp; Many of you probably know where I’m coming from when I say that I know a LOT of good IT folks who have lost their jobs over the last year and are still unemployed.&amp;nbsp; I heard earlier today that many states are seeing unemployment over 11%, so hearing that a good paying…

 <description>

It was a day I hoped would never happen, but I sat down this weekend and updated my little US national debt clock to display over $10,000,000,000,000. I say it's a sad day because despite what some people say (that the further in debt our country is the more prosperous we are) I find it hard to believe we're better off because of the debt we've just taken on. The whole concept of "money as debt" just seems corrupt. Then again, I'm not an expert on economics. Maybe having our national debt increasing at the rate of $36 per millisecond…

 <description>

Some people don't like submitting bug reports about specific issues, but would rather just complain about general problems that bug the crap out of them. For those people there is the Dear Adobe site. I don't particularly like the idea of smearing a company for no good reason, but if the people who are using the site have submitted bug tickets and feel like Adobe is ignoring them then I guess they have every right to complain.. or just use another product. That's part of how free market economics is supposed to work? If you find a better product then…

If you were at FlashForward in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago you got to hear Robert Hodgin talk about what inspired him, and he showed some of his work. I had seen his work before and really liked it so it was good to hear him talk about what fuels him. Tonight I noticed that his work might be exposed to a LOT more people (if the rumor is true). That's some awesome news for him if it's not just a rumor.

Hmm.. I wonder if it'll include this one too?

While I was at FlashForward I had an interesting moment.. four of us sitting at a table were asked what one new feature we would wish for in some upcoming Flash Player. This isn't so unusual, but Tinic was at my table. Umm.. so we kind of had an ace up our sleeve. Heh. Macromedia and now Adobe have actually listened to a LOT of the requests from the Flash community (they've ignored a lot too, but we'll forgive them for now). So I gave it a few moments to sink in where I was, who I was with, etc...…

I'm back from FlashForward and thought I'd jot down some random thoughts. I'm not going to attempt anything cohesive because.. well.. I didn't get a lot of sleep this week and then got back home on one of those cross country red-eye flights that seem to suck clear thoughts right out of me. I checked The Goog for the responses of other people and saw that Caleb was blogging. He was swapping name tags with folks after the "supper club" party Wednesday night and I ended up with his name tag and one of his Fire business cards so it…

I'll be going to FlashForward in S.F. this year. It's been a while since I've been to FlashForward so I'm looking forward to it, and I'm curious to see how the new single track format works out. My prediction is that it'll work out great because the "networking" aspect of the conference will be emphasized and .. well.. given the economy there will probably be a lot of networking going on. I can't wait to see the wild stuff people are working on with all of the new features in Flash/Flex/Air. The last time I went to a FlashForward I…

I was working at about midnight the other night when I heard my little VPN app scream that it'd lost connection.. I noticed that I couldn't get out to my favorite site and checked my DSL modem.... the status light was off. So the next morning I got up and saw it was still off. I called the DSL provider, we went through the standard power off/on stuff and the regular checklist and the guy in India said he'd overnight a new modem (it still hasn't gotten here..). A little while later I remembered something from my CCNA 1 class…

A couple of weeks ago I heard from a client (friend) that has a site hosted on my reseller web server and he said something odd - he said he could access his web site from work but not from home. There's a ton of things that could cause that so I stuck it in the back of my head and went on. Well the other night I went through and updated the mambo installation on that server and was testing it out when suddenly I could no longer get a response from it. I also found I couldn't get…
