The defense team hasn’t even hinted about what story they will tell. But they told me we’re in for quite a surprise.

“We suspect there will be some jaw-dropping,” said defense attorney Cheney Mason. “We’ll have to wait and see.”

Casey’s lawyers claimed three years of questions could be answered in three minutes at trial. It might shock the public. But will it convince a jury?

“The court of public opinion is the most uneducated court in the whole country,” said lead defense attorney Jose Baez, who claimed much of the state’s evidence against Casey has been misinterpreted.

The defense team has been asking some odd questions of jurors: “Have you had to keep anything secret to protect others at any point in your life?” “Do you believe that sexual assault can make people react in seemingly bizarre ways?” There have been lots of questions about sexual assault and other questions that lead me to believe Casey Anthony’s defense will, in fact, be a shocker. I believe the defense team will argue that Casey Anthony did not kill her child. I think the angle here is that Casey’s father, George Anthony, was sexually assaulting her for a long time and that it was he who killed Caylee Anthony. But Casey was too afraid to shine a light on the truth; she had a father who was sexually abusing her and a mother who was abusing her emotionally, I believe they will allege. And to add some credibility to this theory, they’ll point back to George’s attempted suicide and other bizarre incidents in his past.

This also explains why the Casey Anthony defense team doesn’t want her parents observing the trial.

George and Cindy Anthony had asked Judge Belvin Perry for an exemption. Without that, they aren’t allowed to attend because they are listed as witnesses.

Courts generally do not want witnesses hearing other testimony, in fear that it could change what the witnesses say on the stand.

If I’m right, and my confidence in this theory is growing by the minute, this should lead to some pretty dramatic moments in the courtroom. During the lead-up to this trial, many have thought this to be an open-and-shut case and I still believe Casey Anthony to be guilty of this crime but it only takes one juror to disagree. With an emotional case like this, full of twinges of sexual abuse and other shocking claims, the odds of getting that holdout juror that can find a shadow of a doubt in the prosecutions case just got a whole lot more interesting.

Exit Question: Could this possible defense strategy actually work?

The fact that the Stanley’s of the world choose to live life like this is certainly one of the more fucked up things about life in 2011. I picture my grandfather or his grandfather toiling away on a farm in Vermont. They both had very large families, tons of kids running around all the time. Not a day went by when those two weren’t covered in sweat or grease or whatever. Can you imagine one of their children or a neighborhood kid growing up to be an adult baby? No, you can’t. Because they would have ripped the studded belt off their size 28 Levi’s and beat the living hell out of that child until they snapped out of it, found a job and stopped playing games. Apparently, somewhere along the line this behavior became acceptable. The stubborn, perhaps unanswerable question is, why?

Thorton is an ‘adult baby’ which, believe it or not, is an actual thing these days.

It shows both Stanley and the (former) nurse, Sandra Diaz, living out this fantasy in their modest suburban home. You’ll also see the pair snap out of it and run random errands, like a trip to the store to get some lumber, just like the rest of us. You know, minus the giant diaper and all the rest. The short clip above doesn’t mention the employment status of the pair, minus the mention of Sandra being a ‘former’ nurse, as noted above but I’m quite sure there would be significant outrage if Baby Stanley was funding these exploits via the taxpayer’s dime.

This is the part in the story where I tell you Stanley has every right to act like a baby if he wishes to do so. He has every right to engage in whatever bizarre, legal fantasy he can dream up. Babies with guns, driving babies, baby parties, whatever floats his boat is truly fine with me. The problem I have with this is the people who join in on the fantasy. The nurse. What would draw someone to pretend to care for a grown ass man in diapers as if he was a genuine child? Sure, she could be lonely or bored or whatever. She’s not the most attractive person on the planet, in fact she’s downright hideous. Maybe this is the best she can do and she figures, hey, company is company. I can’t see myself ever being in a position like this, though. Playing along, pretending everything is normal, nothing is odd about this situation. It’s just not me.

True, Stanley could be doing worse things. There are murderers, rapists and child molesters running around and I’m focusing on a fat guy in a diaper. But I think there’s something to all of this. Or, more accurately, a common reaction to situations like this. You can’t call people like Stanley ‘weird’ anymore. They’re just ‘choosing a different path,’ the detractors will say. I remember when I was talking about Chaz Bono on WGN Radio as he/she was undergoing several medical procedures to make her into a him. I called the situation ‘weird’ several times and found myself (once again) on the receiving end of a few hundred hate mails. I was called ‘close-minded,’ an ‘asshole,’ ‘insensitive’ and a million other names. But I think Bono and Thornton are weird. Bizarre, whatever you would like to call it, that’s how I think of them. Out of the ordinary, to be sure. There’s nothing wrong with their decision and if I were a family member I would love them all the same regardless but there’s also nothing wrong with noting that that decision is out of the norm. Perhaps if more people in Stanley’s inner-circle pointed this out, he’d move on to live a more fruitful life, free of cribs and pacifiers.

So I’m here today to take a stand on principle. People like Stanley Thornton, who choose to pretend that they are children when they are, in fact, fully grown men or women, are weird. Weird things exist. I, for one, intend to keep pointing them out during my ride around this big blue marble and I hope you will too. Cue the hate mail.

That home, roughly eight times larger than the surrounding homes, was a massive compound surrounded by barbed wire on all sides. It was occupied by two men, one a courier for al Qaeda. Osama bin Laden and his youngest wife (married Osama at age 15, now reportedly in her 20′s) lived in a hidden section of the building. ABC News has post-siege photos from inside the compound which appear to show the Osama’s bed and possessions. You can see large pools of blood in several of the photos. This fortress-like home was 3 stories tall, rimmed by a 7ft security fence and heavily guarded. Needless to say, he wasn’t ‘hiding in a cave in Waziristan’ as many experts thought. In fact, he was in the most obvious location you could imagine.

2. How did we find him? The US tracked bin Laden to this compound after receiving tips from detainees (apparently from Guantanamo Bay) about the location of Osama’s most-trusted courier. They tracked this courier for four years and found the compound in Abbotabad, Pakistan. About eight months ago intelligence officials spotted something odd in a routine intel dump out of Pakistan. This massive home, with all its impressive accessories, had no telephone or internet connections. Pakistani intelligence officials apparently didn’t know what they had spotted but the Americans took that tip and ran with it. After abandoning a plan to bomb the location from above a few months ago, the Obama administration green-lit the successful attack with the thought that proving the identity of those killed was of utmost importance.

In all, 22 people were killed. No U.S. forces died during the attack.

3. How did the attack play out? ABC News has all the details on this one. A team of Navy SEALs, monitored by administration officials and military leaders abroad, boarded two helicopters and headed for the compound. The Pakistanis had no idea any of this was going on. One of the choppers malfunctioned as it was on approach and crash-landed in the yard of the compound. The SEAL team later placed explosives on the wreckage in an attempt to remove any trace of the helicopter.

The SEAL team then stormed the compound, killing two al Qaeda couriers, Obama’s son Khalid and a woman, who was shot as one of the men attempted to use her as a human shield. US officials weren’t even really sure Osama was there until they spotted him face-to-face. He reportedly resisted and was shot in the side of the head, eventually dying from the wound. The SEAL team then loaded up on the remaining chopper and transported bin Laden’s body back to Afghanistan.

4. How do we know it was him? Several news outlets are claiming a source closely tied to the operation tells them the DNA is confirmed (with 99.9% confidence) to be from the target, Osama bin Laden. So, you ask yourself, how the hell did we get Osama’s DNA in the first place? Several years ago, Osama bin Laden’s sister died from brain cancer in Boston. The FBI immediately subpoenaed the body and took blood samples and several samples of brain tissue. This DNA, along with visual confirmation and the use of facial recognition technology allows the United States government to confidently claim that Osama bin Laden was indeed killed in this attack. Also, the Pentagon claims the young wife, found along with bin Laden, identified him by name.

5. What happened to the body? Early reports suggest bin Laden was given some sort of religious funeral (washed and wrapped aboard the USS Carl Vinson) before being buried at sea. At least some Islamic scholars are not pleased with this sea burial (clearly done to avoid making his grave-site a tourist destination for Islamic radicals) and this report from the AP outlines their concerns.

Sea burials can be allowed, they said, but only in special cases where the death occurred aboard a ship.

“The Americans want to humiliate Muslims through this burial, and I don’t think this is in the interest of the U.S. administration,” said Omar Bakri Mohammed, a radical cleric in Lebanon.

6. Are there any photos of his corpse? Yes but they have not yet been released.

7. What was the reaction around the world? In the streets of D.C. people broke out into cheer. At Ground Zero, a group of people spontaneously erupted into a great rendition of the National Anthem. At a WWE event, the crowd went wild. Some 9/11 victims families were happy, others were indifferent. Across the board, it mas mostly as expected. Some folks on the ground in Pakistan fear fresh attacks on the area. In the financial world, the dollar is up, oil is down but despite an initial rally, markets are currently in the red. Hamas, predictably, condemned the killing.

8. Will there be retribution attacks as al Qaeda seeks revenge? Law enforcement and intelligence officials are closely monitoring the situation.

U.S. intelligence and law enforcement authorities warned today that al Qaeda may try to strike back at the U.S. for the death of Osama bin Laden and in a sign of the urgency, an elite unit of Marines who handle chemical and biological weapons attacks was recalled today from Japan.

The death of the world’s most wanted terrorist has security experts at all levels of government concerned that bin Laden’s loyal and fanatical followers could launch a series of deadly attacks.

9. Who was the first to break the news? As with all other major events, it all started on Twitter. User @ReallyVirtual, a software developer seeking some peace-and-quiet in Abbotabad, Pakistan, heard some explosions and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Little did he know at the time, he was live-tweeting the death of the world’s most wanted terror leader. Soon after, the White House announced an impromptu presser where Obama would ‘speak to the nation’ about an undisclosed topic. Blackberries in D.C. started lighting up like a California blaze and news crews were beckoned back to work for an important story. No one quite new what the big news was until former Bush Administration official Keith Urbahn sent out this tweet.

Later, President Obama interrupted an airing of the Celebrity Apprentice (Donald Trump takes another hit) and announced the death of Osama bin Laden. Since that moment, the details of this mission, the casualties and some operational information has slowly leaked out via sources online and on-air.

10. What happens next? No telling, really. Al Qaeda will likely confirm the death of bin Laden and attempt to create some havoc, somewhere to prove that it remains a legitimate threat. The U.S. military will turn strategic focus to the next in line and after that person is killed or captured, the next after him. Airports and major destinations will be on high alert until everything calms down. Politicians will attempt to attach themselves to this event in any way possible and President Obama will sit back and watch his sinking (slight correction: Obama’s poll numbers, though below 50%, have been relatively stable over the last 8 months or so) poll numbers jump back towards the positive. Eventually the images of a dead bin Laden will be released (or possibly leaked online) and the world will turn it’s focus to something else.

No doubt political arguments will be made claiming Osama was the target and now there is no reason to be in Iraq or Afghanistan. There’s no telling if those arguments will gain any traction but it wouldn’t shock me if they did. The most interesting reaction to this will come from Pakistan. What did they know? When did they know it? How could they have been unaware of the world’s most wanted terrorist, living just miles outside the capital of Islamabad in a million dollar home? Lots of questions, lots of uncomfortable answers to come, I’m sure.

So now what? As the President, who clearly proved his point, chided reporters, saying “I’ve got better things to do” (while heading to record an interview with Oprah Winfrey), he must have been on a bit of a political high. He held that (Donald) trump card for just the right amount of time, slammed all detractors, probably killed sales of Corsi’s crazy Birther book and knocked out about 90% of MSNBC’s political coverage and the wall fell down. But the objects on the other side of that wall aren’t so pretty. And the people who truly believe this nutty Birther fantasy? Many of them will never be swayed. In fact, they’re already outlining ‘issues‘ with this new release. But let’s just play pretend for a minute and imagine the entire world is now convinced that Barack Obama is the Hawaiian-born, legitimately elected President of the United States.

If you drove to work this morning, it’s less likely that you were thinking about the President’s birth certificate and more likely that you had to pick your jaw up off the floor mats as you noticed skyrocketing gas prices. You probably didn’t read World Net Daily headlines, but I’m betting you noticed the mess in Libya and the massacres of civilians in Syria that the media has been largely ignoring. This new everyone-with-any-sanity-already-knew-it revelation may not have caught your eye but you might have remembered that family friend still serving in Iraq or Afghanistan with no clear exit in sight. Or maybe you weren’t headed to work at all. With the unemployment rate still hovering over 9% (with many more unreported Americans dropping off the radar) you may be sitting at home browsing the classifieds. The President was right, this was a foolish debate and the media (mostly cable outlets) gave it far too much airtime. But it was also a distraction. Now that the card has been played, the media will have to focus elsewhere. Sure, we’re headed for a week or so of Royal Wedding coverage but after that, it’s open game.

Also, to the nuts placing so much focus and attention on Donald Trump: Stop with the willful naivete. If Donald Trump runs for the Republican nomination (hell, for any nomination) I’ll eat both my hat and yours. This is clearly a promotional stunt designed to drive up ratings for the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice. Don’t act all surprised when he announces his decision not to run (probably bitching about a pay cut or something) right before the credits roll. It’s been quite infuriating to watch the Birther/Trump/Royal Wedding carousel of coverage these past few weeks with so many more interesting, more important stories flying by at light speed.

I don’t remember the 9/11 Truth crowd ever getting this much attention.

DENVER (AP) – The staff at the Colorado elementary school said no one could calm 8-year-old Aidan Elliott.

He had just thrown a TV and chairs and was now trying to use a cart to bust through a door to an office where teachers had taken some young students for safety.

They called the police.

The officers found him with a foot-long piece of wood trim with a knife-like point in one hand and a cardboard box in the other.

“Come get me, f—–,” he said.

When they couldn’t calm him down, one squirted Aidan with pepper spray. He blocked it with the cardboard box.

A second squirt hit the youngster in the side of the head, and down he went, according to an account of the Feb. 22 standoff in a police report first obtained by KUSA-TV.

And this wasn’t the first time Aidan has had a run-in with the police. The police have been called three times to intervene when his outbursts became to much too handle. Despite this, his mother seems incredibly nonplussed. Watch this segment from MSNBC where the boy talks about wanting to hurt the police who arrived to settle him down. Mandy Elliot just sits there (as I’m sure she does every time when he loses his cool) and quietly listens to her son lashing out. Sure, the kid has some issues. But it’s clear the mother is no help in this case.

Mom says this about the police pepper-spray incident:

“I think it’s excessive. I think that they could have tried to talk to him for 5 to 10 minutes to see if they could get him to calm down but it doesn’t seem like that’s what they did.”

And there we have it. The police should have used her parenting method, which clearly has worked so well in this situation. ‘Aidan, I know you’re mad at mommy and I know you’re threatening to kill me with that sharpened bamboo stick but let’s just talk this out,’ I imagine her saying. Perhaps grabbing the little bastard by the scruff of his neck and putting him in line might bear more fruit, though. Even Aidan admits “I kinda deserved it.” That hasn’t deterred the outrage-by-default crowd a bit.

“Bull.

It was a total bully-styl­e overreacti­on by officers trained to react with brutality at any challenge to a demand for specific behavior they give to their target. Punishment for non-compli­ance. With zero due process.”

There aren’t really two sides of this debate. You’re either able to digest this information in a logical way or you simply use it to prove ‘excessive use of force’ by the cops you love to hate. But the police did the right thing. Aidan was out of control. He was threatening everyone, brandishing weapons and destroying a classroom. It’s also worth mentioning that as this whole fiasco went down there wasn’t a whole lot of learning going on. Strike that. The kids were learning, just not about valuable subjects.

As for Mandy Elliot, she seems to be escaping blame across the board. School officials are claiming that the kid has ‘mental issues’ and sending him off to a school for troubled children. All I can draw information from is what has been made publicly available about this case but it seems to me there’s less of a ‘mental’ issue here and more of a parenting issue. When you let your children run amok at home, eventually they’ll run amok at school too. After school (likely after they drop out) they’ll take that same attitude into their adult life. Mandy may think herself a compassionate doting mother but really she’s doing Aidan the biggest disservice of his life. And he may never recover from it.

So while pepper-spraying an 8-year-old boy may seem like an overreaction, in this case I think the police acted exactly as they should have. Perhaps the mother could use a spray as well.
