Can't say I've ever posted a track that I heard from a video game before, but that's exactly what happened with this track 'Flower in a Hurricane' that I first heard in a commercial for the new GTA VI video game coming out in November. The track had a great 80's vibe and a guitar riff they must have sampled from Dire Straits 80's classic "Money for Nothing" that immediately caught my attention, so I looked it up and low and behold it was from Justice, Tame Impala and friends. Pretty crazy. Video game business is big business when they could get heavy weights like these to make music for their game.

Anyways the tune is a jam and of course this game takes place in Miami so I had to post it. Hopefully they release an 80's inspired video for the track at some point.

She Wants Revenge :: Black Wax / Our Love

I was big fan of She Wants Revenge excellent self titled 2006 debut album which featured their big hit 'Tear You Apart' as well as many other great tracks. That whole record still holds up well and you can still hear 'Tear You Apart' being played at a goth party near you. Fast forward to 2026 and She Wants Revenge are getting ready to release their first new album in 16 years titled The Loved on February 2027. The first track they've released from it is called 'Black Wax/Our Love' and they still have that great dark signature sound of theirs. In other words, they still got it! Lead singer Justin Warfield's vocals still sound as great as ever. Can't wait to hear the rest of album.

If you know me you me you know what a huge Depeche Mode fan I am. I got super excited when I heard a new single 'Cross Whisper' the other day that Martin Gore did with Cliff Damavandi which also features vocals from Martin Gore's daughter. They aptly named the project MG x CD + JL =. Great electronic track that features vocals from Martin as well. They will be releasing a vinyl of the track with remixes in December.

New Order :: Covers

Ran into these two great New Order covers the other day and even though they are not new they are stupendous, so thought I would share them with you. Since they are new to me maybe they will be new to you as well.

The first one is by Florida alternative band Anberlin who covers one of my favorite all time New Order tracks 'True Faith'. They completely change the track into more of a rocking track and it is soo good!

The second cover is by electronic artist Geographer of 'Age of Consent' that is more minimal and simple, but very beautiful. Amazing how good covers can bring new life to old tunes that you've heard a million times before.

Cutouts :: Horsehair EP

Alex MacKay the bass player of NYC's Nation of Language has a side project called Cutouts that I heard about the other day. He has a new EP called Horsehair featuring three new tracks and a great remix by Midnight Magic. Pretty great dark electronic grooves where he gets to be the front man handling vocal duties.

Fresh Mula :: Fuori Di Testa

The wifey turned me on to Italo-Senegalese artist Fresh Mula who seems to be re-defining hip hop with jazz and it makes for a fine combination. His new single 'Fuori Di Testa' is so groovy! We have it on repeat. I think this is only the beginning for this talented fellow.

Erasure :: Radio!! Radio!!

Synthpop legends Erasure announced that they will be releasing new album Radio!! Radio!! in March 2027. The first track they released from the album is called 'Wings of Love' and it is a really great haunting track. Andy Bell's vocals sounds a bit more mature and the track's pacing a bit slower which is to be expected for a band going on a 40 plus year career. We have to appreciate albums from these legendary acts as you never know when it will be their last one (no jink!). Keep them coming fellas.

Sex Mask :: Sex Mask EP

Whilst at the Turnstile concert last Sunday a friend recommended Australian band Sex Mask who has a recently released self titled EP. After a quick listen I highly recommend you check them out as well. Dark electronic dancey goodness! I am particularly digging the first track from the EP 'Raid', as well as 'Sweat' and 'Lockjaw'.

Haute & Freddy :: Touch Touch

Some of the best music discoveries come from friends who also have great taste in music. Got a couple of those for you today. The first one is from LA duo Haute & Freddy. They recently released new single 'Touch Touch' and it is an 80's sounding pop gem! So good, can't stop listening to it. Thanks to my buddy Josh for the recommend.

Bloc Party :: Anatomy of a Brief Romance

I remember playing Bloc Party so much in early 2000's during the indie heyday. 'Banquet' and 'Helicopter' are huge hits that will forever be associated with that era. They just released new album Anatomy of a Brief Romance and just like the title implies the songs are mainly about relationships that did NOT end well. Who can't relate to that? Kele's voice still sounds as fragile and amazing as ever.

On my way to my DJ gig last night had some time in the car to listen to legendary Beastie Boys Mike D's first solo album Thank You which was released a couple weeks ago. I wasn't sure if we were ever gonna get new music from the two remaining Beastie Boys members as it had been many years with nothing. Then a few months ago some clips of Mike D performing new music with his kid started popping up on my feed. Glad he got the itch and came back, loving the new record! It has great experimental beats, rhymes and hooks in his trademark Beastie Boys style. His voice is unmistakable and as good as ever.

M83 :: I Wrote You a Letter

French electronic artist M83 is getting ready to release new album I Wrote You a Letter on September the 25th. The first taste from the album is 'Blister Sunrise' which is a dense shoegazey type of track. Curious to see if the rest of the album will go in this direction.

It had been awhile since I heard NYC's The Drums. I was super into their 2010 track 'Let's Go Surfing' back in the days when indie was king. Cut to 2026 and heard this new single from them 'It Didn't Matter' that they did with Mareux the other day and I instantly recognized his voice. Great new single that sounds pretty different from 'Let's Go Surfing' (more on the pop side), but still a solid track. Thought I'd post that for you guys to check out.

The Avalanches :: No Bad Memory

Legendary Australian electronic act The Avalanches have announced their fourth studio album No Bad Memory being released October the 16th. I was obsessed with 2000's Since I Left You with all those amazing samples. Seems the new album is gonna have 31 tracks?! That is a lot of tracks for an album, but I have noticed all the tracks they've released so far are very short, plus I'm sure they will have plenty of sample snippets sprinkled throughout the album so that may be the reason for that. So far they've released some collabs they've done with Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Jamie XX. That's a pretty impressive start!

Fontaines D.C. :: Dopamine Chamber

Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. that I have loved since 2022's Skinty Fia recently announced new album Dopamine Chamber which is being released October the 16th. I keep hearing the new record will be more electronic / Depeche Mode like with less guitars. The first taste of the record first single 'Marianne' definitely supports this hypothesis without totally leaving behind their trademark style. It is sooo good! I cannot wait to hear this album from this band that only seems to be getting bigger with each passing year.

Genesis Owuso :: Human Again

Been into Australian artist Genesis Owuso for a few years now. He has such a great vibe. Recently he released new single 'Human Again' that is pretty much fire! Super poppy indie dance jam that will hook you in no time flat, that chorus with female vocals is oh so good.

Saw NYC indie legends Interpol earlier this year in concert here in Miami. They were amazing as always! At the time we did not have word on a new album, but since then they have announced new album This Mirror Weighs a Ton being released August the 28th. Been hearing "See Out Loud" being played on satellite radio a ton and I get excited every time it comes on. Starts with a bang to their trademark indie sound. Can't wait to hear the whole thing!

Nouvelle Vague :: A Date with Depeche Mode

French bossa nova band Nouvelle Vague are getting ready to release a covers album A Date with Depeche Mode on October the 30th. In it they cover 13 tracks from these synthpop legends from the ones you'd expect to hear ("Enjoy the Silence", "Personal Jesus") to more obscure tracks like ("Ice Machine", "Leave in Silence"). The first taste we've gotten so far from the album is for "Enjoy the Silence" and "Never Let Me Down Again". Loving both of the covers! I will definitely be playing these out at home. Super chill and soothing renditions.

The first one is from Meshel Ndegeocello who is releasing a covers album called Synonym on October the 2nd. He covered The Human League's classic new wave track "Don't You Want Me" with Cat Power and turned it into a completely different chill and downtempo version of it.

Post Punk legends Echo and the Bunnymen are getting ready to release new album Apples for Isaac on September the 18th. It is their first new album since 2014's Meteorites! The first single they've released from the new album 'Brussels is Haunted' is classic them, elegant and gorgeous. Got me excited to hear more.

UK indie band Yard Act just released their new album You're Gonna Need A Little Music July the 17th. Digging the record, particularly the title track. The lead singer's voice reminds me a bit of Jarvis Cocker and Leonard Cohen. They have that indie rock vibe of the early 2000's on lock.

Long time fan of The Magician. I was obsessed with his remixes and DJ mixes that he would release regularly back in the day. In the indie heyday his remix of Lykke Li’s 'I Follow Rivers' was played everywhere! Such an amazing dance floor track! Now some 15 years later they have reconnected again, this time with Lykke Li’s new track 'Lucky Again' and once again it is dance pop gold. Only wish they would do an extended mix as it’s very short, clocking in at 2:42. Oh well repeat it is...
