There was definitely some Pet Sounds playing in the background during formative moments in these boys' lives. Their debut full length, Strange Heaven, was produced by Hot Snakes/Night Marchers/RFTC extraordinaire, John Reis. Their lyrics invade sun drenched surf guitar like panhandling Coney Island junkies, crashing in with "I said fuck you on the note, but I sent you flowers." If you were ever wishing Best Coast had a more intelligent and evil fraternal twin, Mrs. Magician is what you have been looking for. So if you don't mind risking your roommates' enmity after hearing the same album over and over, I highly recommend picking up a copy of Strange Heaven.

Dan Sartain hails from Birmingham, AL. He's usually associated with rockabilly, but his new album, Too Tough to Live, takes inspiration from the Ramones. He was sandwiched between the amazing Mrs. Magician and the Night Marchers at the Glasslands in Brooklyn. His set comprised almost the whole album with 1, 2, 3, 4 intros shouted into the microphone while the chords of the last songs still rang out. The Glasslands being a cozy little place, after his set we crawled up to a cramped loft serving as a music equipment cemetary to have a talk about the virtues of digital analogue and the badassery of Amelia Earhart.
Listen to him here.
Highlight of the show: Three great bands in a small venue.
