Northern California 7 on 7 Passing League. 5 Events, Solano, Bay Area, Sacramento, Contra Costa and the Finals. Each Area Event will be a 16 Team Bracket. Events will be $320 Per Team and the Finals are Free to the Elite 8.The winner and second place team from each event will be invited to play under the lights in the FINALS. 2007 Alumni LB/FB Jordan Campbell. One of our first ever members reflects on his days at USC and the journey to his comeback.

Going into his senior year at Norco High School, Jordan had one scholarship offer. By the end of his senior campaign, the dream offer from USC became a reality. Pete Carroll was the coach he had always wanted to play for. The decision was made...

"Coach Carroll was a fun guy and a great coach, I loved playing for him." When Coach Carroll eventually left for the NFL, USC wasn't the same for Jordan. "Playing behind Rey Maualuga and Clay Matthews made it very difficult to get on the field, and after Coach Carroll left, I decided to move on."

After a brief stint with the University of Louisville, Jordan is settling in with the last ranked team in D2 football, New Mexico Highlands.

When asked, Why New Mexico Highlands? "New Mexico is ranked dead last 142/142, the idea of making history fuels me and I get to play both sides of the ball."

Jordan is a big hitter and should be considered as one of the best Linebackers in all of college football. Huge score for New Mexico Highlands and I feel for the teams within their path.

Judging by the off season workouts with NFL players Clay Matthews, Rey Maualuga, Jerod Mayo, Jordan's workout film, and the talent New Mexico Highlands has brought in this year, we at Off The Hook Recruiting agree history is in the making. We will be paying close attention to their season as well as several NFL teams looking for talent.

There is a question that keeps coming up in the recruiting world.

O.T.H.R. wanted to share our views on the subject.

The Question is... Should there be music on your highlight film?

It has been said, “Do not add music to your film, College Coaches don't care for it”

We agree in most cases.

#1 When sending a hard copy DVD to a program that has requested your film.(No Music)

9 out of 10 times they asked for your film to review it with all of the coaching staff and not all of them are going to care for your musical tastes.

#2 Never have music on your DVD, YouTube, or any uploadable services that has disrespectful lyric's in any way, shape or form. Coaches evaluate your character just as much as your athletic abilities.

In certain situations we disagree, and you probably can tell by the the number of video's O.T.H.R. has produced with music on them.

#1 Today's recruiting videos are streamed online so the right music can set your video off and attract attention to your film. The more people talking about it the better. Most college programs have their graduate assistant coach look at your YouTube video to see if you are someone they want to pursue. The average graduate assistant are of the ages of 22-28. They like to listen to the music, just like most of us do.

We know the recruiting process is a stressful time. It is a once in a life time experience and hard to enjoy until its over. In some cases the music can act as a stress reliever and make the recruiting process a lttle more enjoyable.

Some of the video's of our athlete's have been produced by a third party with music on them. We are OK with that but we monitor the music before we add it to their athletic resume'. We also ask them to research the editing company they use to make sure they will provide a no-music version also.

Note: If you are a client of O.T.H.R. and plan to use third party video for your athletic resume', be sure the music is accepted by us before you waste your money having it made.

At O.T.H.R. we make two versions of your highlight film; with music and Intro, and also without music and intro.

The question about music being on your highlight video was researched through conversations with college coaches and research of other recruiting services as well.

During the research of our competitors we found some quality services that we would recommend, but we stumbled across some horrible ones as well. To say the least, we had some good laughs out of it.

SAT OR ACT

There is no just as good or just as bad.. Colleges just way differently on each test. East coast schools like the ACT and West coast schools like the SAT.. Some colleges will only require one or the other.. Our members are advised to take both or check with the coaches they are talking with and see which they prefer. You can use this question to further you relationship with coaches when communicating. Either way, it is best to take both so you prepared.

Coaches have strict guidelines they must follow when contacting recruits. Knowing their contact schedule will help you with the frustration of them not contacting you in a timely manner. You can find this info on the NCAA Website.
For recruits there is no time table. You can call 24/7. Call coaches when there has been Contact, When you're going to attend their Camp and if there is a College program your athlete is interested in. It is important to make these sorts of calls because a College coach wants to know about the person as well as the athlete you are.

85% of athletic scholarships fall outside of D1. Dont have D1 eyes..Know your options.

The average cost of college is around 14k to 22k per year.

Knowing the recruiting and financial aid process can get your athletes tuition, housing, and food paid for, or at least no money out of pocket for parents. (Student loans)

For an example: Athlete gets a partial scholarship (7k a year) Athlete received a grant (5k a year) school cost (17k a year).... 5k balance can be covered by perkins or stafford loan. Parents pay nothing. Student athlete would pay back loan 9 months after graduation with monthly payments. What would cost 17k times 4 or 5 years. (68k to 85k) will cost (20k-25k)...You can get your foot in the door and earn a full ride.There are all kinds of different scenarios but the point is...Using a recruiting service is like an investment.. The return on investment would be help obtaining grants, financial aid and scholarships. In most cases, what you spend on a service, you will get back the first semester of your athletes college career. Do your research on recruiting services. Know your options, be prepared and proactive, check for services that educate as well as market.

Of coarse there are always alternatives.. Pay the full tuition per year(ouch) or go the JC route.. JC route in some cases have huge benefits as well. Some JC programs are pipelines straight to a State/University the coaches have good relationships with.

Its a no brainer..

Parents/Athletes - Don't be naive, the old way of thinking was --- Get good grades and perform at a high level in your sport, that would earn you a full scholarship... Far from the truth...The competition is doing more and more to be noticed and starting earlier and earlier each year. College coaches dont discover talent, they use their resources...

College coaches have student athlete TO DO lists. Coaches want verified info, and to know that all the necessary steps to gain admission to their program is complete. You can be a great athlete, but being unprepared can lose you the opportunity to play at the next level.

Parents, knowing the process and being proactive can save you thousands of tuition dollars. Your athlete doesn't have to be the best to earn a scholarship and financial aid. Just have to realize there are options outside of D1. They can continue playing their sport and get an education with you paying almost nothing per year..

The road to success is never easy. Know your options and never give up on the dream.

The most common mistake made is waiting for coaches to find you.. Dont make this mistake unless you are an ESPN 150 or 5 star prospect. Recruiting starts as early as 8th grade. It is important to understand what a coach wants to see on your highlight film and your player profile.

Using a recruiting service to learn the recruiting process is extremly important, our services or any services. College coaches use such services to gain verfied information and trust the service to make sure the prospect is progressing through the varies stages/events that need to take place for them to gain admissions to the State or university. Over 74% of football scholarship were to prospects that were signed up with a service. The percentage of getting a D1 scholarship is 1%. Over 80% of athletic scholarships fall outside of D1.
