Spring is in the air

I am so glad that Spring is just around the corner. I have gotten to take my bike out a couple of times in the past 2 weeks and I have loved it. I got my first taste(and hopefully last) of hail this past weekend. I got bombarded by nasty bb sized hail while riding and no place to pull off. Luckily I was in an area I could at least slow down some but it still made for a painful and nerve racking few minutes till I cleared it.
I still am in love with "Alice" my 2006 Honda VTX 1300R that I purchased at the end of last Summer. She rides great, smooth and powerful, and handles both Erika and me just fine. I would of course love to own a Harley for the Harley namesake one day but I am in no hurry to spend that kind of money. But back to Alice if you are familiar with Harleys and not metrics a VTX is best compared to a Harley Fatboy(the bike not me).
Anyways Spring can come on now anytime it wants and it can stall for a while before Summer rolls in and bakes us.

I love my new job

This comes after 1 month of working my new job and I have got to tell you that I love it! I actually want to get out of bed at 6am(mostly) and get ready for work. I never thought that I would have this feeling with a job. I just hope that this feeling never goes away.

So yeah, Wolverine was a great movie in my opinion. They took some liberties with parts, but then again it is a comic book adaptation. I think that some people get to caught up with the source materials sometimes. Which brings me to Star Trek one word, Awesome. They took liberties which I will not discuss here for fear of spoilers, though only two people read my blog anyways, and one of them has seen the movie with me. But still, I digress. Both movies were great and warrant going to see in theaters.

With the summer right around the corner two new trailers have came out that have me salivating for the summer movies already. I have been stoked for some time about Transformers 2, Terminator: Salvation, Wolverine, and Star Trek to name a few, but the new Star Trek trailer and Wolverine trailer have me jonesing for a fix.
I am also interested to see how well they pull off G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and Fast and the Furious 4 but to me it's really 2 cause the second and third ones sucked big ones.
There are some really good looking movies coming out this summer so we'll see if this is the best movie summer in history.

Tea 'healthier' drink than water

The researchers recommend people consume three to four cups a day
Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers.

The work in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates.

Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers, UK nutritionists found.

Experts believe flavonoids are the key ingredient in tea that promote health.Type

These polyphenol antioxidants are found in many foods and plants, including tea leaves, and have been shown to help prevent cell damage.

Public health nutritionist Dr Carrie Ruxton, and colleagues at Kings College London, looked at published studies on the health effects of tea consumption.

They found clear evidence that drinking three to four cups of tea a day can cut the chances of having a heart attack.

Some studies suggested tea consumption protected against cancer, although this effect was less clear-cut.

Other health benefits seen included protection against tooth plaque and potentially tooth decay, plus bone strengthening.

Dr Ruxton said: "Drinking tea is actually better for you than drinking water. Water is essentially replacing fluid. Tea replaces fluids and contains antioxidants so it's got two things going for it."

Rehydrating

She said it was an urban myth that tea is dehydrating.

"Studies on caffeine have found very high doses dehydrate and everyone assumes that caffeine-containing beverages dehydrate. But even if you had a really, really strong cup of tea or coffee, which is quite hard to make, you would still have a net gain of fluid.

"Also, a cup of tea contains fluoride, which is good for the teeth," she added.

There was no evidence that tea consumption was harmful to health. However, research suggests that tea can impair the body's ability to absorb iron from food, meaning people at risk of anaemia should avoid drinking tea around mealtimes.

Dr Ruxton's team found average tea consumption was just under three cups per day.

She said the increasing popularity of soft drinks meant many people were not drinking as much tea as before.

"Tea drinking is most common in older people, the 40 plus age range. In older people, tea sometimes made up about 70% of fluid intake so it is a really important contributor," she said.

Claire Williamson of the British Nutrition Foundation said: "Studies in the laboratory have shown potential health benefits.

"The evidence in humans is not as strong and more studies need to be done. But there are definite potential health benefits from the polyphenols in terms of reducing the risk of diseases such as heart disease and cancers.

"In terms of fluid intake, we recommend 1.5-2 litres per day and that can include tea. Tea is not dehydrating. It is a healthy drink."

The Tea Council provided funding for the work. Dr Ruxton stressed that the work was independent.

Settling back in

Coming back to work sux. I just came back on Monday from a great vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC. E and me went down with her very generous parents for 5 days. We spent the day on Monday in Charleston and then headed to Myrtle Monday afternoon/evening. We had our 2 1/2 yr old nephew with us and I didn't know how well that would work out at first. It is the most time that I have ever spend with a kid period much less one so young. But other than a couple of meltdowns he was a great little guy. He took more of a liking to me I think because he was around me more which was really cool. I enjoyed swimming with him in the various pools and ocean. He wasn't that wild about the waves at first cause of how hard they were coming in, but he thought it was pretty cool when Grandpa and me were lifting him up as the waves came in so that he only got his feet wet. He really loved building sand castles or more the destroying the ones that Dave and me built for him, lol.
We had a great time with E's parents too, he dad is affectionately known as the Sun God because he likes to tan outside when it is hot. So as you can imagine he had fun baking in the sun while her mom really was just glad to be relaxing in the shade or the pools with E and me.
Of course going to Myrtle with them reminded me of old vacations that I have taken with my folks growing up. We used to go down at least once a summer to my Aunts and go to the beach and walk the strip looking in all the crappy little stores for junk that no one needs but everyone wants some part of.
The only bad part of the whole trip was it being over, but we left the morning that Tropical Storm Hanna started to affect the weather but then it was still only light misting most of the trip home and by the time that we got back to Sparklecity things had cleared up and the sun was out.
Now being back I am trudging through day 3 of trying to get our backups back online.

So yeah, its been like 3 weeks since I posted. Oh well, whatcha gonna do? Anyway things have been going ok. My Grandma in law is in town, we have been chilling with her some and E's family. This past weekend I helped my friends Chris and Julie move into their very first house. It brought back memories of how stressful and exciting it was for E and me buying our house. Last night we worked on replacing his ice maker line and dishwasher hose. That didn't go as well as hoped but could have went MUCH worse. But all in all it has been a learning experience for him and me. Which is always a good thing, even if it costs you a few bucks. Now we will both have a better understanding of what to do if we ever have to do this again.

Can't even take a shower anymore

So I must be all about hurting myself here lately. Yesterday morning I decided to bang my head into this shower cleaner thing and knock it off the wall. Onto my first toe from the pinkie toe on the left foot. You can imagine the pain that that caused. First I bang my head on a freaking sharp @$$ nozzle on the damn thing and then it falls off of the wall and somehow creates a warp field to increase the speed between the 6ft original height and the point of impact on my toe. Thus increasing the pain when my foot caused the sudden deceleration of the object. Now I know what some of you are thinking, oh big baby got something dropped on his foot and he's whining about it. Well yes, but that is beside the point. This thing weighs or should I say "weighed" about 5lbs +/-. So when said POS hit my toe I look down getting soap in my eyes and to see the toe turning purple/red almost instantly, I mean wtf is up with that. So of course I freaking flip out cause I have about knocked the damn thing down for weeks now when in the shower (stand up shower btw, not so much room when bending over). So here I am bent double, soap in eyes, toe starting to throb with pain and here is this symbol of satan staring up at me that just inflicted this pain. So what do you do when something hurts you and you are still half asleep, thats right chunk it out the shower curtain. Only problem is, that's right when the wife is coming through the door when I hurtle the satan spawned missile out the curtain, striking her shin. So of course I get the what the H are you doing and begin to tell her wtf happened. And that my friends is why I have a really nasty looking toe right now and why it appears that the pain that happened with the computer incident from last week is continuing this week.
Oh, whats that, you want to know what happened to the shower cleaner from hell turned missile? Oh that little SOB broke the damn battery door off when it hit my toe, oh yeah great quality there let me tell you Mr. Scrubbing bubbles. Country boy toe 1 POS gadget that sux 0.
So in closing, don't by one of these things unless you are going to bore a hole in your wall and screw this jerk down.
