I also don’t like hanging extremely heavy objects on the walls. I fear them pulling out of the drywall and falling on my family. I know you can anchor into the studs, but that always doesn’t work when the studs are not in the right place. Anyway, this is what I came up with…

I found this really pretty mirror at Kirkland’s. It has a gold/silvery finish and looks like it is made up of little tiny mirrors. I liked the mirror because it had a bit of a modern look – something a little different for the room. Another bonus…it wasn’t very heavy. So, I was trying to work around my existing TV cabinet (I no intention of replacing it) and the mirror was quite a bit smaller. I needed to do something to create a visual size balance between the two.

My solution – a painted frame around the mirror. I didn’t want to use a strong paint color, but something that would visually balance the mirror to the cabinet. I chose a pearl glaze that worked perfectly for a couple of reasons. It’s shimmery finish added another modern element to the room and when the light hits it, the square subtly changes throughout the day – it was not overpowering. It also made it very hard to photograph!

This is the before photo. As you can see, I needed to do something with the upper space. I also updated a few of the accessories to freshen the look!

I could not take many pictures of the process as I was literally on top of the TV cabinet. I have a fear of heights and the cabinet doesn’t look that tall, but it was kind of scary being on top of it!

This was not a one person job…I needed the assistance of my husband. After determining the size, I measured up from the TV cabinet along the bottom, to create the bottom of the box. I double checked with a level to make sure my line was straight. Using a large art triangle and a yard stick, I began to measure up the sides. Again, I double checked my taped lines with a level and repeated the process to create the top of the box. Sorry, I have no pictures of this, but it took two of us to get this right!

The flash in this photo really helps to show the look of the glaze paint. After painting the square, I let the paint dry completely over night and removed the tape the next day. Below is the glaze and the type of roller I used. Both were purchased at Lowes.

I’m very happy with this update and love the subtle use of wall paint to create balance!

This is easy! Supplies – Beading wire, green and red tissue paper. I found mine at the store Five Below…they were a little deeper in color and only cost a dollar each. I should be able to get two Chile Pepper Poms out of a pack of red. Only one pack of green is needed to make multiple poms.

I cut the red tissue paper into squares about 4-5 sheets at each size. I started with 9″ squares reducing the size by about an 1/2″ until I reached 4″ squares. Six sizes in all to create one pom. Nothing was exact…I didn’t measure a thing!

Cut a long piece of wire and fold it in half. Accordion fold each size and round the ends on both sides. Starting with the smallest, wrapped the wire around the folded tissue. Twist the wire between each size of tissue about 3/4″ for the smaller squares and 1″ between the larger squares. I love how the wire naturally started to curve like a chile pepper!

Gently fluff your pom starting at the bottom, filling in the spaces created by the wire.

To finish off the pom, accordion fold the green tissue to create a green top. Instead of rounding the ends, I made about 3″ cuts, down the folded sides, to give the tissue a “spiky” look! Attach with no large space in the wire.

I started with a white latice sheet of scrapbook paper and a single bunch of flowers both purchased at Joann’s. Using a straight edge and an x-acto knife, I cut the scrapbook paper into strips as the pattern repeated itself.

I had a little gingham ribbon, that I wove through the paper, to helped secure the paper to the vase.

First, pull the flowers off the stems. The center of the flower comes through all the layers of the petals sticking out the back. You need to cut the back off, so that the flower will lay flat, on the paper. Before cutting that off, take a dab of glue and glue together the layers of petals, so the flower does not pull apart.

My flowers were glued directly to the scrapbook paper and not the ribbon. The paper strips could then slide around the vase evenly once attached to the vase. I used a dab of hot glue to attach the ribbon to the vase. This can be peeled off later without ruining the vase.

I also thought it looked great wrapped around candles – perfect to add to a table for a Bridal Shower or Brunch!

And to finish the table off, it also makes for a pretty napkin ring!

Ingredients and serving for one drink…

5 oz. Lemonade – I highly recommend Simply Lemonade. It is simply the best tasting!
1.5 oz. Blueberry Vodka – Any brand will do.

When I am having a party I calculate the servings and make a large pitcher…they don’t last long!

I also like adding a little garnish to my drinks. For this drink I used a pretty shear ribbon, glued with Tacky Glue, to a skewer. Just add the blueberries!

I have been inspired lately by all the new ways to dye or decorate Easter Eggs. It seems the traditional way we have been dying eggs is not good enough! I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed, exploring egg decorating with watercolor paints – it’s just not for kids anymore! I do have a major disclaimer - WATERCOLOR PAINTS ARE NOT FOR FOOD PRODUCTS AND MAY CONTAIN LEAD – DO NOT PAINT ANYTHING YOU OR YOUR CHILDREN INTEND TO EAT! These would be perfect for Blown Out Eggs like they do here.

My inspiration for my eggs came from this…my dads well used watercolor paint tray. He was a very talented painter who sadly is unable to paint anymore. My mother gave me his tray last week – many wonderful paintings came from here. You can see some of his work in this past Father’s Day Post! Since I am also artistic I did a little painting when I was younger…watching and learning some of his techniques. I thought I would try a few to see if they would work on the eggs as well.

The one thing about watercolor paint is that it is hard to control. Unlike other paints it wants to spread. The secret to the Crackle Egg look is plastic wrap! Whatever brand you like. Simply paint the egg completely with heavy pigment then crinkle the plastic wrap and dab it all over the egg. The wrap removes the paint in some areas and collect it deeper in others. Let dry without smudging, it if you can. Pretty cool looking! And yes, my dad did this on his paintings!

Tip: I found it easier to take the egg carton and turn it upside down, to hold the egg, while I painted. My fingers were getting a little messy!

The Speckled Egg was done in a similar technique. Completely cover the egg with paint, dip a small bristle brush in water and sprinkle the water on the egg. Watch the pigment dilute as the water hits the egg.

As I said, watercolor paint can be hard to control, but one of the cool things about it is the interesting effects it creates when the colors bleed together. For the Bleeding Egg (looks a little tie-dyed) I first dipped the entire egg in water, then dabbed the egg with heavy pigment. It takes a few minutes, but the colors begin to bleed together. Add additional paint and colors as needed.
