WUSA TV Morning/New Media Intern Wanted!

W*USA Multi-Media Intern Search
Internship Requirements
1. The student must be registered at a University, College, Community College or Vocational-Technical Institute.
2. The student must be sponsored by a faculty advisor and/or internship coordinator. Written confirmation must be provided by the university/college confirming that a minimum of one credit hour will be earned for participation in the program. No compensation will be received from the station.
4. All internships require a minimum of 15 hours per week covering a period of 10-16 weeks, depending on the school's quarter or semester length.
5. While WUSA-TV considers the internship program format valuable in observing the student's attitude, talents, and skills, it is understood that no guarantees are given for future employment.

Application Deadlines
At any point, a student may submit a resume and letter of interest to be considered for an internship. However, in order to be considered for the quarter the student desires, his/her resume must be submitted no later than the dates listed on the schedule below.

Morning Entertainment/New Media Internship

W*USA TV's morning show has an exciting opportunity for an energetic and creative student who can advance our Morning Show on-air and online! We are looking for a Web and TV savvy intern to add to our morning team. This individual would take the lead of our new media internship program. This internship is an opportunity to be on the forefront of mixing television with new media/social networks. As a key part of our morning team you will work closely with the Traffic/Entertainment Anchor to design and implement new programs to ensure W*USA maximizes our use of new media. The intern will be exposed to all aspects of the editorial process when it comes to the morning news program, a new entertainment segment launching this Fall while working closely with the show's Executive Producer. During the live show the intern will be actively involved in producing web content and audience engagment. This position is considered to be a major part of adding to the morning show’s success. The intern will also have the opportunity to shadow the morning show reporter in the field and accompany talent at appearances and events. This is an opportunity that will give you a solid look behind the scenes of the show in and out of the studio.

Leather, pleather, fur, latex, spikes, chains, mullets... anything rock related could be spotted at the Mandarin Oriental this past weekend.MicroStrategy's Michael Saylor once again did not disappoint with his party throwing ability.The headbangin' affair heard from three bands.. Burnt Sienna, my fave Mr. Greenjeans and a rockin' group made of teenagers (who stole the show). I caught morning news rival (snicker! snicker!) Steve Chenevey in a pair of ripped up jeans.. and I don't know what you call that belt. Also spotted former DC beauty queens in touch with their inner rockstar: Kate Michael as Lady Gaga, pink wig and fishnets under white bikini bottoms.. and Kate Marie Grinold in a vintage baby MJ tee and black zipped-up leggings! Both gals confessed some part of their 'costume' was actual dance gear they once used! Caught on Video: Sorority sis Chelsea Causey made a special appearance with some of her Redskinette teammates...

Gettin' SPIGGY With It

On Sunday, September 27th, 2009, Dave "Spiggy" Spigler, along with eight of his "litter mates" from the world renown "Washington Hogettes", the Redskins' Biggest Fans, hosted the 16th Annual "Spiggy Hogette & Friends Children's Charity Benefit" at the American Legion Post in Lusby, Maryland. Bringing together more than 300 folks from all over the Washington metropolitan area, this "fun" raiser event is held each Fall during a Redskins' away game to support organizations involved in the care and treatment of sick children. What started as a basement party for 30 of Spiggy's co-workers at the nearby Patuxent River Naval Air Warfare Center, has now blossomed into a three-day weekend consisting of the largest golf tournament held in Southern Maryland, a Saturday Tri-County Biker Run for Children's Hospital, and a Sunday Redskins' Game Party with participants sporting the jerseys for most every NFL football team. This years' events attracted several former sports personalities including Redskins' Pat Fischer, Ron (the Dancin' Bear) McDole, Rich Milot, as well as the former Voice of the Redskins for 25 years, Frank Herzog! Four of this year's squad of Washington Redskin Cheerleaders joined in to help lead the cheers for our beloved football team. Despite the final score, the good news is that nearly $50,000 in contributions and services were realized by these zany Hogettes and the efforts of hundreds of folks to make this weekend a huge success once more!!!! A very good day for the KIDS.
OMG SAYS: Patty tells me she met Joanna Nash (fellow WUSA9 fan pictured in middle above) and that shey had a great day even though she's a Cowboys fan. ;)

W*USA Digital Correspondent Lindsey Mastis is glowing in the newsroom these days! Not because she just aced a 17 mile run in preparation for a marathon.. but because it is now official: she will marry Mr. Right! Mr. Right just happens to be Mr. Dot-Com at Channel 9 too. CBS sports announcer Greg Gumbel was in D.C. Thursday night to emcee a March of Dimes reception at the Library of Congress, where Ford Motor
Company President Alan Mulally and UAW President Ron Gittelfinger announced they would serve as national co-chairs for the 2010 March for Babies. They pledged to raise $100 million. Gumbel, a long-time March of
Dimes volunteer, was also recognized for his volunteer leadership with
the organization. Other volunteers who were recognized included Olympic
gold medalist Kerri Strug and Sears Holding Corp. President Bruce
Johnson. Locally, the next March for Babies will be held Sunday, April
25, 2010, on the Washington Monument grounds.

CUTS FOR THE CURE:
9NEWS viewer Colette Banet (second in on left) boast the pretty pink ribbon gift bags at the Cuts for the Cure event weren't the best part of the day! I mean, what can top the whopping $8,000 Salon Bleu and Tysons Galleria raised for breast cancer research. The one day event benefits the Maryland chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Guests enjoyed more than stylish cuts... there were great appetizers and even a Giorgio Armani make-up artist in the house!

COMING UP: Greenhouse Social
Mingle with global conservationist Philippe Cousteau, CW's Sophie Pyle and more at a special soiree' hosted at the Charity Works Greenhouse . It's the first carbon-neutral home on the East Coast! Peggy Fox recently did a 9NEWS report on this cool home which is more of a designer showcase thana house. Nineteen award winning designers each created one room, there's even an HD virtual golf room in the basement.
The Young Benefactors Soiree' is this Wednesday at 7 pm. There will be food and drink, lots of press, and the attire is cocktail (jacket no tie).

OMG! My Niece's New Pet..

And my parents thought I was crazy when I asked for a chinchilla! My sister tells OMG:

We went to the giant insect exhibit today....it was a lot of fun....gigantic robotic insects, lots of displays and activities, an exotic insect petting zoo, and other stuff....Caelyn absolutely fell in love with one of the specimens there.....so we went to the pet store and she picked her own out. She named him "Quincy". He has a huge appetite for tomatoes so far!

I think this is all I can handle for this post.

Becky: Helping the Beaten Break Free
Becky's Fund founder Becky Lee wraps her show with strong symbolism that earned her a standing ovation.

You didn't even have to turn down New Jersey Ave, NW to know that there was a huge production going down rooftop the Liason Hotel. Skylites criss-crossed the sky like they do in Vegas... the backs of skyscrapers were made into canvasses reflecting the charity's logo like a powerful bat signal. But unexpectedly the glitz and glam of this Washington social was quickly overshadowed. One would assume it was by the local stars present: Clinton Portis, Jason Campbell,Albert Haynesworth, Chris Cooley, R&B singer Ginuwine, Jazz great Marcus Johnson, former Survivor champ Yul Kwon...the list goes on. But if you were there you know what stole the show-- and perhaps your breath with it:

From our poolside seat... OMG got the message: Things aren't always as they seem.
Gorgeous models removed sexy shaws to reveal bruised shoulders... behind the Jacki-O's an unrecognizable black eye. This was one powerful collaboration by Portis and Lee.
