Kenyir Lake is the biggest man-made lake in peninsular Malaysia.

Kenyir Lake Located approximately 55 km from Kuala Terengganu, It was reputed to be one of the largest and most fascinating man-made lake in the world. Covering an area of 369 sq km, it is also Malaysia's largest rock-filled hydroelectric dam. When the area was inundated by water, most of the hills were above the water level, thus creating about 340 man-made islands. Surrounded by a lush tropical jungle, the Kenyir Lake is a popular and ideal retreat for nature lovers, anglers, photo enthusiasts and fun seekers.

Some of the activities which could be carried out here are fishing, swimming, canoeing, boating and jungle trekking. Pulau Redang, located 45km off the coast of Kuala Terengganu, is the largest of a group of nine protected islands dotting the South China Sea off the Terengganu coast. The island offers crystal clear waters and numerous dive sites for enthusiasts. Sheltered within the Pulau Redang Marine Park, the waters here are rich in marine life. At midday when sun rays penetrate the sea, brilliant hues of coral, anemones and fish can be seen.

The waters around Pulau Redang also contain two historic shipwrecks: The H.M.S. Prince of Wales and H.M.S. Repulse, which sank here at the start of World War II, setting the stage for the Japanese occupation of Malaya. This paradise island is perfect for snorkelling, swimming, scuba-diving, jungle trekking, boating and canoeing. No fishing is allowed within a 3.2km radius of the island as Pulau Redang is gazetted as a marine park. The collection of corals and other aquatic life is also strictly prohibited. Redang island is perfect for snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, jungle trekking, boating and canoeing. Fishing without a license & Causing Pollution (3.2 km radius), i.e. littering Possession of spear fishing equipment.

The hilly island of Redang can be fascinating in its own way. There is a moderately well trodden and marked path between Pasir Panjang and Teluk Dalam beach, about 2 km long. At the end of the trek is the Berjaya Redang Beach Resort at Teluk Dalam. For the more adventurous, there are rocky cliffs and outcrops away from this beaten path that offer spectacular overhead views of Pasir Panjang below.

The internationally famous island of Sipadan lies five degrees north of the equator in the Sulawesi Sea (Celebes Sea). Lying 35km south of Semporna, on Sabah's mainland, like many tropical islands it is thickly forested and surrounded by sandy beaches. Sipadan is an oceanic island and was formed by living corals growing on top of an extinct undersea volcano, which rises 600m from the seabed.

The geographic position of Sipadan puts it in the centre of the richest marine habitat in the world, the heart of the Indo-Pacific basin. More than 3000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species have been classified in this richest of ecosystems. Sipadan is well known for its unusually large numbers of green and hawksbill turtles which gather there to mate and nest and it is not unusual for a diver to see more then 70 turtles on each dive. Another unique feature to divers visiting Sipadan is the turtle tomb, an underwater limestone cave with a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers that contain many skeletal remains of tribes that became disoriented and then drowned.

The residential schooling barracuda and big- eye trevally are one of the highlights on every divers wish-list which often gather in thousands forming spectacular tornado-like formations. With the possibility of seeing pelagics such as mantas, eagle rays, scalloped hammerhead sharks and whale sharks, each dive at Sipadan is a highly anticipated event. Its not only the frogfish that amaze divers coming to Sipadan, the macro life is equally mesmerizing. Off the coast of perak State, north of Selangor , lies a cluster of fabulous islands with unquestionably some of the best coves and beaches on the western coast of peninsular Malaysia. Among them, two islands predominate in terms of accessibility, infrastructure and development - the largest island, Pangkor and her sister Pangkor Laut. Those who are not familiar with the geographical locations generally confuse the two. Forty minutes by ferry from Lumut, the popular island resort of Pulau Pangkor (Pangkor Island) welcomes visitors with its serene golden beaches, crystalline blue waters, and cool refreshing breezes. Located about 90km south west of lpoh, it is largely inhabited by fisherfolk.

They live in scattered fishing settlements along the coast especially on the eastern side, facing the town of Lumut and Teluk Batik, and their catch comprises mainly cuttlefish and anchovy. Dutch Fort

At Teluk Gudang lies the 300-year-old stone foundations of a Dutch Fort built in 1670. It was one of the Dutch strongholds against pirates and local Malays. The fort was abandoned after it was attacked by a local warrior, Panglima Kulub, and his followers. Muzium Negara undertook its reconstruction in 1973. Today, only the stone foundations and carvings on a large rock left by the soldiers remain.

Langkawi island is an archipelago of 104 islands lying in the north western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The exact location of these tropical islands is at the site where the Straits of Malacca meets the waters of the Andaman Seas.

The largest of these islands is called Langkawi Island and is bigger than the Penang Island.The other islands in this group are Island of Pregnant Maiden (Pulau Dayang Bunting), Lion Island (Pulau Singa Besar) and Beras Basah Island.The smallest of these islands are atolls roughly the size of an ordinary house!

Langkawi is coined from the Malay words Lang and Kawi. Lang is a brown eagle and Kawi is a local manganese stone.The ancient fishermen must have seen eagles flying clutching the manganese stones! A giant monument of a brown eagle clutching the manganese stone greets all visitors to Langkawi near the Kuah Jetty.

Sitting off the northeastern coast of Malaysia are a pair of islands that have become a popular destination for backpackers and scuba divers alike: the Perhentians. The islands tend towards the rustic side,

as neither is connected to the mainland power grid, and are therefore reliant on a limited supply of battery, solar, and generator-based electricity. As a rule, Kecil is the cheap, backpacker party island, while Besar is more upscale. Both are surrounded by almost two dozen excellent tropical dive sites, with 85 F waters that regularly boast visibility in the 25 meter range.

The islands have a range of natural undersea rocks, pinnacles, and reefs with names like Temple of the Sea and Iron Cape. These are packed with colorful corals and a rich variety of sea life, such as moray eels, black tip reef sharks, barracuda, sea turtles, stingrays, and a rainbow of tropical fish. The depths on these sites rarely exceeds 25 meters, and they are all easy enough that local dive companies frequently allow Open Water (OW) divers to go beyond the usual 18 meter limit for OW divers.

There are also two ship wrecks in the local waters: the Sugar Wreck and the Vietnamese Wreck. The former is 64 meter long cargo ship that was hauling a thousand tons of sugar at the time she went down in 2000, hence the name. She lay in 18 meters of water, making her within reach of OW divers even by strict dive operators. The Vietnamese Wreck has a long history. Originally an Imperial Japanese Naval transport from the Second World War, it found itself later pressed into service hauling refugees from Vietnam in 1976. Intercepted by the Royal Malaysian Navy, the vessel was discovered to have ordnance aboard, and as it was being towed back to shore the vessel exploded and sank. Depth ranges between 17 and 25 meters.

Nice In Terengganu

The Perhentian Island consists of two islands providing a stopover point for fishermen. The two islands, 'Perhentian Besar' and 'Perhentian Kecil', are located off the east coast of Terengganu. The former island, as its name suggest, is the bigger island and has been carefully developed to cater to visitors. The latter is a secluded and isolated island with minimal facilities and not quite suited for visitors. However, both the islands provide visitors with breathtaking scenery, crystal clear waters filled with rich and colorful marine life. A rocky virgin jungle provides hour of adventures for trekkers who may chance upon flying fox, long-tailed macaques and monitor lizards, while the underneath marine life shows off a splendid garden of coral.
