Light, sweet crude for March delivery dropped a dollar to settle at $40.17 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Retail gas prices rose to almost $2 a gallon as refineries took units temporarily off-line for seasonal maintenance.

Crude prices traded as low as $38.60 a barrel earlier in the day while investors digested a government report that said 598,000 jobs were lost in January. The Labor Department report also said unemployment rate rose to 7.6 percent, the highest since 1992.

Oil traders see layoffs as an instant drag on oil demand. People have less need for gasoline when they no longer have a daily commute. They also stop buying toys, nonstick pans, raincoats and millions of other products that are made with petroleum.

“The economy’s ugly, analyst and trader Stephen Schork said. “We know it’s ugly.”

Schork said he expects traders will eventually push crude prices back to the $50 range. For the past few weeks, crude oil hasn’t found much interest when the price per barrel drops below $40.

“You get the sense the market wants to go higher,” he said. “Those who sell at $40, they’re going to get tired of doing that. Eventually they’re going to hop on board and push this thing to $50.”

For all of 2008, the economy lost a net total of 2.9 million jobs, according to revised figures. That marked the biggest annual loss on record and was worse than the 2.6 million initially estimated last month.

Many more are likely to come. Chrysler LLC said Friday it will temporarily close four assembly plants next week because of weak U.S. sales. Spokesman Max Gates said additional closures are possible because the company reviews its production schedules every week.

With millions of people out of work, drivers are logging billions of miles less compared with last year. Still, gas prices have frustrated motorists. With fewer cars on the road, gas prices should go down. Instead they’re on the rise.

Retail gasoline prices on average rose less than a penny to $1.91 a gallon Friday, up from $1.73 a gallon a month ago but still less than the $2.97 a gallon average of a year ago, according to AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.

Andrew Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates in Houston, explained that unlike crude oil, gasoline prices are rising because supplies are under pressure this time of year as refineries take units offline for maintenance.

Also, refineries on the east and west coasts typically buy different, more expensive grades of oil than what’s reported because of their distance from Nymex’s delivery point in Cushing, Okla.

Cheaper grades of crude can’t travel “from Cushing to the Gulf Coast or California or even the East coast. So refiners in these locations have to purchase crude that’s more expensive,” Lipow said.

The jobless numbers capped another rough week that saw major losses at companies such as Motorola Inc. and Walt Disney Co. The Energy Department also reported that crude oil supplies continue to expand with millions of barrels of cheap surplus crude.

Amid the gloom, some companies are performing above analysts’ beaten-down expectations. Wal-Mart’s sales beat Wall Street’s forecasts and Macy’s department store, which this week said it would slash 7,000 jobs, raised its fourth-quarter and full-year forecasts.

Elsewhere, investors also are keeping a wary eye on China and other developing countries for signs of how far the global recession has spread. Chinese factories were expected to continue to pump up oil demand, but experts are no longer betting on this.

Recent reports from the Chinese government say 20 million people have been thrown out of work, and experts now believe that the country’s once-burgeoning economy has stalled.

Oil traders also are watching for possible further production cuts by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, which has already promised to reduce output by 4.2 million barrels since September.

So far the cuts haven’t noticeably depleted crude inventories on the West Coast, a region that’s heavily dependent on OPEC for oil, Newedge analyst Antoine Halff said in a research report.

Halff said it’s possible OPEC’s influence has faded on the West Coast because imports from Ecuador might not have been cut as expected. Also, supertankers carrying Saudi Arabia’s reduced shipment may still be making their way across the Atlantic, and West Coast inventories may be receiving increased amounts from other foreign sources like Canada, he said.

Whatever the reason, “OPEC restraint is not making a dent on West Coast stocks yet,” Halff said.

If current production cuts don’t boost demand as hoped, OPEC leaders may slash production targets again at the group’s meeting in March.

In other Nymex trading, gasoline futures fell 2.41 cents to settle at $1.2507 a gallon. Heating oil dropped 0.74 cent to settle at $1.3598 a gallon, while natural gas for March delivery rose 13.2 cents to settle at $4.774 per 1,000 cubic feet.

In London, the March Brent contract gave up 25 cents to settle at $46.21 on the ICE Futures exchange.

Natural gas, also known simply as gas, is a fossil fuel made up of several gases, of which methane is the most prominent. A very similar gas, known as biogas, is produced by swamps, sewage sludge and cattle manure. The gas we have come to know as a source of energy has gone through a series of processes by the time it reaches us. Before natural gas is usable for fuel, it must be extensively processed to remove all secondary components, such as propane and sulfur. The uses of natural gas are many and varied. Consumers, industries, and commerce can all benefit from its use. Here are just some examples of the many uses of natural gas.

Transportation Sector: Uses of natural gas in transportation cover everything from cars and trucks to heavy-duty service vehicles. “Clean Air” natural gas buses are popular in Canada and some European countries, and more vehicles are now running on dual fuel, allowing owners to switch between gasoline or natural gas depending on needs and circumstances. The Russian corporation Tupolev is working on the design of an aircraft that would be able to fly on a combination of natural gas and hydrogen.

Residential Uses: Many home appliances run on natural gas, including furnaces, barbecues, fireplace logs, pool and spa heaters, and fire pits. Uses of natural gas at home also include residential heating, with 51 percent of American homes choosing gas as their main source of heat. Natural gas air conditioning is not as popular as the electrical alternative, but it does exist.

Industry and Production: Uses of natural gas in the industrial sector are divided between production and energy. Natural gas is used in the making of anti-freeze and plastic. Food processing industries use basically only natural gas to power up their plants, but waste treatment and petroleum refining are also big consumers of natural gas. Because many gases can be extracted as a subproduct of natural gas, the uses of natural gas go beyond what the gas itself can provide.

The kingdom plans to pump in February below its Opec (the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) target of 8.05 million barrels per day (mbpd), undershooting what was already a record Opec supply cut agreed in December.
“The Saudis know that extraordinary times require extraordinary measures,” said David Kirsch of Washington-based PFC Energy.
“If measures are needed to stabilise the oil price and market at lower production levels, they’ll be prepared to take them. They are ready for a year of deficit, and they finance that for longer than other producers.”
Saudi oil infrastructure is in better shape than that in most of its Opec peers to pump less without damaging fields, analysts and industry observers say.
It has shown in the recent past it has the capacity to both accelerate and slow production, Kirsch said. It raised output to 9.6-9.7 mbpd last summer, after paring it to 8.6 mbpd in early 2007.
“You don’t get that kind of performance out of a sector that is in plateau or decline,” Kirsch said. Saudi Aramco’s hi-tech approach allows it to monitor reservoirs and limit the potential for damage as output slows, said Sadad Al-Husseini, a former top executive at the state oil firm. “Saudi Aramco is well ahead on all of this on,” Husseini said. “It’s been done enough times that they can do it without damaging systems and reservoirs.”
Industry sources say the kingdom will cut output to 7.7 mbpd in February, already the lowest level in more than six years and around two mbpd below July.
But cutting output further could exacerbate a domestic shortage of gas. Like its Gulf neighbours, Saudi has seen gas demand for power generation and heavy industry grow rapidly with a petrodollar-fuelled economic boom. (source: www.oilandgasnewsworldwide.com)
Here are some job hunting tips may help you get the edge in searching out and landing the offshore oil career of your dreams.

Curriculum Vitae is the first important thing of applying for a offshore jobs. Since potential employers have to cut down practically hundreds or thousands of applications to a few valid ones, they will have to base their narrowing down efforts using the CVs they have collected.

Surveys have shown that most of the offshore oil rig jobs employers decide to accept or reject job applications based on the related work experience listed in the Curriculum Vitae. Another most of the employers decide to reject or accept these offshore jobs applications based on the layout design of these applications.

Make Your CV Stand Out

When preparing your CV for offshore jobs, make sure your CV stands out among the rest. It should be the type that is appealing to the eyes, making the evaluating personnel want to read the CV. Step two is for you to make sure your CV lists the related offshore work experience you have had in relation to the job you are applying for.

Make Your CV for offshore oil jobs Concise and Relevant

Avoid making your CVs too long. It may make it irrelevant to the evaluator. Remember that the offshore jobs employer is a person to whom time is important. If your CV shows that you value his/her time while showing the most relevant information in the least amount of time, you will have won one important battle.

Always tailor your CV to the offshore jobs type.

You may have had previous experience that may not be related to the offshore oil jobs that you are applying for. Some people keep many different versions of their CV for different job opening purposes. Make sure your CV is appropriate for the job. A one-size-fits-all CV may not be the best way to go since the employer will have the impression that your previous efforts have not been focused enough to produce any specialization on your part.

Write about your achievements

You may add your achievements, but make your statements factual and relevant. It does not do harm to advertise yourself, but make your advertisement matter-of-fact and not just hot air. You may want to skip on listing your weak points as the CV is not the avenue for such discussions.

Polish Your CV

Your offshore jobs employer will know if you have put enough time producing your CV. If he/she sees that you have put sufficient and thorough effort into your CV, he/she will assume that you will do the same in your work. This is a big plus for you. It is not uncommon for some people to spend days or even weeks polishing and buffing their CVs to get offshore oil jobs

It depends on the type of jobs and your experience. You need to update and revise your jobs resume to get it better since it is an important step that one must pass before being called for the first interview

Offshore Jobs searchers, usually apply to the ad that advertised on newspapers, while many others use an offshore jobs headhunter or visiting oil gas companies job site, drilling company website, and try to match their credentials for the position. Whenever you go for an Offshore Jobs interview or any jobs interview, the potential offshore employer has no idea at all of who you are.

The first impression of offshore employers always look at is your resume. Your time to show up or being read by the employer is just about 30 seconds. So if you do not get the employer during 30 seconds then your chance has gone. You must be sure that the resume is well written and grammatically correct since oil offshore jobs usually multinational culture and employees.

In the offshore jobs resume must say almost everything about the person. This should always start with pertinent information such as the person’s name, age, address, contact number and social security number then jobs experience. The details here are needed so if one is considered to be a potential employer, it will be easy for the company to get in touch with the applicant and be scheduled for a job interview.

Next is the career objective which is the reason why the applicant wants to apply for the position in the offshore jobs. By putting a strong goal in mind and not a general one, the employer will see that this person has a direction which is why that person wants to work for the oil gas environment such as on offshore drilling, offshore construction, oil offshore company, and other types of offshore jobs.

The next section should include the relevant oil offshore jobs skill and knowledge one has had in the current and previous jobs as well as highlighting one’s major accomplishments. Many offshore jobs require some years experience in offshore since the requirement for working offshore is very stringent. By putting in detail the things one has done in that offshore position and experiences learned from it, that information is already basis for the employer to see the potential the applicant has for that position. It shows the qualities one possesses and the benefits one can contribute to the further growth of the company. If you have no oil offshore jobs experience, you have to say the truth and highlight your accomplishment.

After that, your offshore jobs resume should show one’s educational background. Some companies prefer someone with a degree in a certain field, a licensed professional to do the job or one who possesses a master’s degree. By showing one’s credentials, it is a good indicator of the type of training one has possessed in school and the accomplishments one has achieved in the course of one’s career.

The last section should provide details such, interests and character references. Offshore Jobs Employers look at potential applicants who not only have the qualifications for the job but also those who also those who are well rounded. Being active in a certain organization and be seen as a leader in a group shows one’s social skills with others. Previous oil offshore jobs character references do the same and give people an idea how one performed working with that person.

A massive construction boom, an expanding manufacturing base, and a thriving services sector are helping the UAE diversify its economy. Such projects include the Burj Dubai, which is slated to become the world’s tallest building, Dubai World Central International Airport which when completed, will be the most expensive airport ever built, and the three Palm Islands, the largest artificial islands in the world. Also in the entertainment sector is the construction of Dubailand, which is expected to be twice the size of Disney World. The currency of the United Arab Emirates is the Emirati Dirham, exchanging at a rate of about 3.67 per US dollar. Do you want to see another reason why UAE Jobs and UAE employment is one of the best choice is the education below:

Education system in UAE

Ministry of education monitor the education system up to the secondary level is monitored. That’s consists of primary schools, middle schools and secondary schools. The public schools are government-funded and the curriculum is created to match the United Arab Emirates development’s goals and values.

The medium of instruction in the public school is Arabic and emphasis on English as a second language. There are also many private schools which are internationally accredited. Public schools in the country are free for citizens of the UAE, while the fees for private schools vary.
