New Concept of Floating Unit - Part 1

Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) construction either is new build and /or conversion from existing ship. Somehow all FPSO are in rectangle shape with sharp head. The other type of Floating Production Unit (FPU) which is in a rather square shape.

New concept of potable floating unit are implemented recently. They consist of Floating Accommodation Unit (FAU), Floating Drilling Production Storage Offloading Unit (FDPSOU), Floating Gas Turbine Generator Unit (FGTG) and Floating Mobile Subsea Vehicle Unit (FMSVU).

All units are potable and inter-link between each and other. They can be added and relocated according operation demand.

These units have been constructed in YANTAI yard, China in 2005. Next post will includes the actual photos of these units.

The World's First Advance Floating Gas Refinery took 7 years from concept stage to engineering completion and further 2 years for construction. This giant refinery weighs 35,000 T and 100,000 T with the carrying vessel (Blue Marlin of Dockwise BV). Refinery was constructed in Spain and presently operating for one of the gas fields in Artic Circle.

It processes the non associated gas collected through Sub Sea piping network and transports the processed gas through a Sub Sea pipeline to the onshore facility. It seems there are 5 gas turbines to run this whole refinery.

Oil falls below $73 a barrel

Aug 07 - Oil prices dropped to below $73 a barrel yesterday, a 3% fall in price. The price drop was on the back of concern over the state of the US economy.

Dana Gas discovers gas in Egypt

Dana Gas has announced a new gas and condensate discovery from its Dabayaa-1 exploration well in the West Manzala Exploration

Concession in Egypt. Centurion Petroleum Corporation, the upstream division of Dana Gas, drilled the Dabayaa-1 well to a total depth of 3,001 meters and encountered a hydrocarbon-bearing interval that extends over a 10 square kilometer area.

Shell Finds New Nigerian Oilfield

The Nigerian arm of Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) has made an oil discovery and a test well flowed at up to 5,000 barrels per day, the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) said on Thursday.

The discovery was made onshore in the eastern Niger Delta in Shell's Oil Mining Licence 17. The exploration well, Aghata-1, was drilled to a total depth of 4,679 meters and encountered 245 meters of hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs. Source : IN O&G

Workers evacuated from powerless oilrig

DOZENS of oil workers were evacuated from a North Sea platform after spending two days with no lights and no hot water.

The 61 staff were flown by helicopter to nearby rigs after the power failed on SHELL's Brent Bravo platform. The company said the workers were taken off on Sunday as a precaution and insisted there had been no threat to their safety.

Royal Dutch Shell progresses sale of its Berre-l'Etang refinery site complex

As part of an ongoing strategy of portfolio management, Société des Pétroles Shell (Shell) has received an offer for the sale of its Berre-l'Etang refinery site complex and associated infrastructure and businesses to Basell. A purchase price of $700 million has been agreed.

The sale is subject to staff consultation and regulatory approval. Shell will be working closely with the appropriate trade unions and staff representatives as it has been doing since the announcement to review the ownership of the assets was made in January 2007. It is anticipated that any deal would be concluded in early 2008.

Shell sells equity in undeveloped Norwegian assets

A/S Norske Shell ('Shell') has entered into an agreement with E.ON Ruhrgas Norge AS to sell its 28% equity interests in the undeveloped Skarv and Idun fields for US$ 893 million. The agreement covers the licenses PL-159, PL-212, PL-212B and PL-262 in the Norwegian Sea.

Chinese miners rescued after 3 days

BEIJING (AP) Onlookers burst into applause as 69 coal miners trapped in a flooded shaft for more than three days were pulled out Wednesday, a rare rescue in a country with the world's deadliest mines.

The 69 were stuck underground but uninjured when the state-owned Zhijian mine in Henan province's Shan County filled with water early Sunday. Thirty-three other miners managed to escape.

The trapped miners were rescued at midday Wednesday, the Xinhua News Agency reported. It said the first to emerge, identified as Lan Jianning, was met by a crowd who began clapping when they saw him...

Sam Bodman, the US Energy Secretary, has said he hopes Opec will decide to increase its output at its meeting next month, following a sizeable drop in US crude oil inventories, reported Reuters. Government figures released last week revealed inventories dropped by 6.5m barrels in the week ending July 27, the fourth straight drop. Bodman said current supply was 'a little short' of preferred levels.

BP reaffirms commitment to North Sea oil production

BP SAID it was committed to North Sea oil production despite what it said was the "terminal decline" of the fields, as it also said more favourable tax treatment from the government would be welcome.

It came as new BP chief executive Tony Hayward revealed that second-quarter underlying profits fell 1 per cent to $6.09 billion (£2.95bn) as refineries such as Thunderhorse in the Gulf of Mexico were out of action.

Technip awarded contract for offshore gas facilities in UAE

Technip, in consortium with Bechtel, has signed a contract with Saudi Aramco for the conversion of the Khursaniyah (Saudi Arabia) gas plant project into a lumpsum turnkey contract. The contract was originally awarded to this consortium in March 2005 on a time unit rate basis.

Discharges and emissions from the oil and gas industry 2006

The reduction of discharges of environmentally harmful chemicals to the sea from the petroleum activities on the Norwegian Shelf continues.

According to the operating companies' annual reports on emissions to air and discharges to sea, there was a significant reduction in NmVOC in 2006 and a slight reduction in CO2 and NOx emissions.

Reporting takes place in parallel to the Norwegian Pollution Control Authority, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate and the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway via EnvironmentWeb. Details : Scandoil

New coal-bed methane proposal gets warm reception

A proposal to drill for coal-bed methane in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is getting a warmer reception than a plan three years ago that cost a Palmer state senator his job.

Fowler Oil and Gas has proposed placing a pilot well on an 840-acre unit. The land near Trunk Road and Bogard Road in Palmer is owned by four families who support the company’s plan.

Bob Fowler, the company’s chief executive officer, said his proposal is much different from one by Evergreen Resources in 2003.

Ethanol could keep price of gas high

Industry won’t expand refineries since demand for gas will remain the same.

A push from Congress and the White House for huge increases in biofuels, such as ethanol, is prompting the oil industry to scale back its plans for refinery expansions. That could keep gasoline prices high, possibly for years to come.

With President Bush calling for a 20 percent drop in gasoline use and the Senate now debating legislation for huge increases in ethanol production, oil companies see growing uncertainty about future gasoline demand and little need to expand refineries or build new ones.

Oman to develop Mabrouk field

Petroleum Development Oman will develop its Mabrouk field after the plan received shareholder approval, Khaleej Times reported. The project calls for the drilling of up to 80 new wells and the construction of a production station and gathering system. The work is expected to boost capacity from the field from 8,000 bpd to between 15,000 and 20,000 bpd of oil, and will produce 1m-2m cubic metres a day of gas.

BPZ Energy reports completion of CX11-16X Corvina well

BPZ Energy, Inc. announced today that the Corvina CX11-16X well was successfully completed as a natural gas producing well, following workover and testing operations.

A total of four Drill Stem Tests (DST) were conducted on various zones in the well including one in a formation previously untested in the entire basin. After completion, a final production test yielded approximately 20 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d).

Russia: BP-TNK, Gazprom, And The Kovytka Gas Field

There are fears that, after almost four years of negotiations, the British-Russian joint company TNK-BP will be forced to cede control of the Kovytka gas field to Russia's state-controlled energy giant Gazprom.

Russia has said that TNK-BP is not producing enough gas from the field and is therefore not complying with production obligations. "How long should we tolerate it if participants of that consortium do nothing to meet the license obligations?" Putin asked on June 5. The Russian president didn't mention that TNK-BP has repeatedly said that the reason it can not meet license obligations is that Gazprom has blocked a plan to build a gas pipeline to China.
