The Development Geologist will lead reservoir evaluation, characterisation and modelling across all the BG Norge operated development projects, with initial responsibility towards pre- and post-sanction activities at the Gaupe and Bream Fields. Key Accountabilities
The Development Geologist reports to the subsurface team leaders for each development/pre-sanction project. Work assignments
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to work on
Molecular based techniques for autonomous petroleum leakage detection. The
position will be contracted for 3 years. The PhD work is integrated into a
research project financed by the Research Council of Norway under the Petromaks
program, and is targeted towards environmental application and innovative
monitoring for the offshore Oil and Gas (O&G) industry.

O&G industries are moving their activities
towards marine areas challenging traditional monitoring techniques like the
Arctic or the deep-sea. There is a need for innovative means of collecting
critical environmental information such as petroleum contamination and impact.
Real-time monitoring techniques using remote communication like the
Environmental Sampling Processor (ESP) of MBARI (Monterey Bay Aquarium Research
Institute, USA) bears potential for new solutions. This device has the ability
to collect environmental seawater samples and autonomously perform DNA
extractions and various molecular analyses, making it a powerful and a unique
tool for in-situ real-time of environmental samples and online monitoring.

The primary objective of the proposed PhD
task will be to work on adapting MBARI’s ESP modules and analytical assays for
the autonomous detection of oil leakages in the marine environment by using
specific molecular markers within the petroleum-degrading microbial community.
The PhD work will follow up all the steps from the selection and identification
of molecular markers to the validation of the analytical method in the ESP in
laboratory-simulated oil exposure scenarios

Competency requirements
The candidate should hold a Master Degree within biotechnology, molecular biology or
related subjects. The candidate will work closely with industry and an
experienced team of scientists in Norway and in the USA.

Experience
The candidate should have good laboratory experience in molecular
biology techniques (PCR, Taqman Q-PCR etc.) and preferably also good knowledge
in microbiology.

Personal qualities
The successful candidate has a good communicative skill in general
and good written and spoken English level in particular. Capacity to work
efficiently in a team and take initiatives is important. In addition to working
with researchers at IRIS, the student will be administratively connected to a
university and thesis supervisor (National e.g. University of Stavanger or
another international university).

Background

Major challenges are related to efficient utilization of existing infrastructure and exploration of new fields worldwide. Increased production of oil and gas, demands new field development based on sub-sea production, including bulk separation and multiphase boosting. The multiphase boosting represents an energy-intensive production segment in which limited research has been invested. Specifically this relates to the thermodynamic and flow fundamentals.

Aker Solutions has developed a high pressure multiphase pump concept, the MultiBooster™. In order to convert this concept into a successful industrialized product, we need to gain more in-depth knowledge of physics and the performance. We are currently doing major investments for new test facilities that will help increase our knowledge.

Multiphase boosting form a key element in future oil and gas production and it is of vital importance to understand and develop a consistent thermodynamic and fluid property basis. The know-how is linked to fundamentals as outlined below:

• Thermodynamic and fluid property fundamentals for multiphase boosting

• Performance parameters and fluid correction equations

• Performance prediction, including real multiphase fluid behavior in MultiBooster™ impeller

The generation of know-how will be based on experimental investigations first using water/air and at the next stage model fluids, and the development of appropriate models for generalization of experimental data as an equipment best practice/design basis. Multiphase pumping, boosting and metering technologies are critical in the offshore oil and gas industry. However, multiphase flows are a very complex physical process since they combine the characteristics of a deformable interface, channel shape, flow direction and in some cases the compressibility of one of the phases (gas phase). Depending on the operating conditions, such as pressure, temperature, mass velocity, channel orientation (the effect of gravity, which in non-vertical channels tends to pull the liquid to the bottom of the channel), and fluid properties which are widely different combinations of different classes of fluids such as oil-gas, oil-water and oil-gas-water etc. Various gas-liquid or liquid-liquid interfacial geometric configurations occur in multiphase flow systems. To develop and improve multiphase pumping, boosting and metering technologies, it is very important to understand the flow regime characteristics under various operation conditions. The available experiments and models are mostly for steady flow conditions. Whether the available models are applicable to the transient operation conditions in the subsea oil gas production is not well explored. Therefore, the proposed research aims to model the complex transient flow regimes of water-gas-oil (oil-water, oil-gas and oil-water-gas) flows under the complex subsea conditions and to develop the corresponding prediction models for the void fraction, liquid holdup and frictional pressure drops. Design criteria of oil-gas-water multiphase flows under various flow regimes will be proposed. The proposed study is fundamental to the further investigation of multiphase metering, boosting and pumping technologies which have been planned as our long-term research targets in the field of multiphase flow.

NSRI was launched in January 2009 to define a co-ordinated long-term research strategy for the UK subsea industry. NSRI is a partnership between Subsea UK, the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University, the University of Dundee, and the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. NSRI Studentships fall within over-arching priority research themes related to reliability and integrity, autonomous systems, and offshore geotechnical engineering and fluid dynamics.

The student will be based in NSRI within the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen. The lead supervisor will be Dr Lixin Cheng. The studentship will be co-supervised by an industrial supervisor to be confirmed.

Petroleum Engineers

The Petroleum Engineer functionally works in Chevron's Reservoir Engineering team and is a simultaneously member of multi-disciplinary teams for operating assets and new projects. As Petroleum Engineer you manage all petroleum/ reservoir engineering aspects of Chevron's interests in the diverse portfolio of operated oil and gas assets and new opportunities in the Netherlands. With a technical focus, your responsibilities include generating oil and gas production forecasts, building and maintaining material balance models and conducting Field Development Planning for new developments. You carry out economic analysis and studies to support reserves submissions. The Petroleum Engineer also provides support to the operations group: implementation of EOR systems, preparation of well intervention programs, troubleshooting well performance on a day-to-day basis, perform decision analysis work and running economic analysis for small operation projects (i.e. compressor sizing, generator replacement, well intervention, changes in completion, well proposals or other investments).

Succesfull candidates have a university degree (MSc. or equivalent qualification). You have around 10 years of experience in reservoir simulation (using IPM and Eclipse), production engineering and basic knowledge of economics, ideally in an operating environment. Experience in drilling and well intervention are desirable. Knowledge of local geology and familiarity with the Dutch petroleum regulatory environment are a plus. Fluency in English is required and Dutch is an advantage.

The position:

Our Information Management client is currently recruiting for a Well Data Manager (Data Loader) / Team Leader with subsurface applications knowledge, including Openworks and Recall. The roles will involve well data loading to Landmark and Petrel applications, day to day management of seismic and well data types and coordination of data management activities.

The candidate will be experienced with subsurface data types, subsurface applications and databases. Commercial knowledge of Recall suite is necessary for this role, as is Openworks.

You will be required to have:

Full proficiency in Reservoir simulation (both black-oil and compositional), with minimum 2 years practice of ECLIPSE and/or VIP

Good knowledge and practice of reservoir engineering techniques: numerical simulation, well test interpretation, material balance, production logging analysis, PVT analysis, and other company standard reservoir engineering interpretation tools

Understanding of reservoir production mechanisms (IOR/EOR)

Partial autonomy, ability to perform the tasks with some supervision

Basic knowledge of reservoir geology and log interpretation.
