CONFETTI FAIR GIVES ANY EXCUSE FOR A PARTY

Australia’s biggest party planning fair will explode across the east coast this winter, encouraging aspiring hosts to raise the standard of soirees thrown around the country.
Confetti Fair, the brainchild of Sydney mother, Claire Cassey, rides the wave of popularity for culinary brilliance and hosting prowess, offering creative party ideas and inspiration over three events in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
“The perfect party is making a comeback and there is an increasing appreciation for a well organised affair,” said Claire. “There are new blogs popping up every day and the number of new party businesses is quickly growing.” “I used to spend hours and hours trawling the Internet looking at party blogs, reading online magazines and scouring through pages on Facebook when I was trying to plan a party.” “One day I thought ‘You know what? It would be so good if I could just go to one place and choose everything I need and see how it will all look.’” And so Confetti Fair was born.

The one‐day events bring together 45 exhibitors that answer all your hosting questions from amazing styling tips, delicious sweets, themes and stationery to floral arrangements, pretty décor and how to setup that perfect dessert table.

After the amazing success of the fair in Sydney the vendors in Brisbane are out to put on a better fair!

“A good host thinks of the details; from the guests’ invites, to the delicious sweets on the dessert table, to the decor in the room and the garden, and the current trend of retro inspired fashion, homewares and attitudes means we’re not afraid to don an apron and get hands on.”

Confetti Fair is a place where seasoned and aspiring hosts can seek inspiration for their party, by finding out about the latest trends, learning traditional methods, simple solutions and all out extravagance. Every little detail is covered at Confetti Fair, and you will leave with the confidence to put together a fabulous party of your own; an engagement party, kitchen tea, wedding reception, baby shower or a first birthday ~ it could be any type of celebration that deserves a party!

Confetti Fair is being held from 11am – 4pm at The Old Museum, Brisbane 14th July
2013.

Presale tickets only, no door sales. www.confettifair.com.au

Other dates: Melbourne 04th August, Abbotsford Convent
Perth 23rd November, South Perth Hall
Ticket sales will be donated to Heart Kids Australia (specific to each state).

BEN OTTEWELL (Gomez)
National Australian Tour 2013
Love Police Touring announce an extensive national tour throughout June/July for UK’s, Ben Ottewell. Familiar to a faithful following as the most recognisable voice in Mercury Prize-winning Southport five-piece Gomez, Ottewell released his first solo album, Shapes & Shadows, via ATO/Shock Records in 2011.

While Gomez is a three-singer band, Ottewell’s powerful tenor has graced many fan favourites, from early songs like ‘Get Miles’ and ‘Revolutionary Kind’ to the more recent singles ‘How We Operate’ and ‘See The World.’ In one early profile, Rolling Stone declared, ‘Gomez’s not-so-secret weapon is Ben Ottewell. His deep, raspy voice is spine chilling… more like an otherworldly bluesman than a baby-faced Brit.’ And GQ once wrote, ‘Ottewell’s voice is not of this world. It is a deep, reverent baritone, the kind of voice that shakes windows.’

Fans can expect Ottewell to play songs from his 2011 solo album Shapes & Shadows, classics from the Gomez catalogue plus his favourite covers. Whether you’re a Gomez fan or would just like the chance to witness one of Britain’s finest vocalists in such intimate settings, make sure to check out Ben Ottewell when he tours Australia this winter.

‘It was clear the crowd wanted to stay on the ride as there was a stubborn pull for an encore and audience members bidding for ‘just five more, just five more’.

Medea- The River Runs Backwards

Zen Zen Zo’s 2013 IN THE RAW Studio Season production will be the classic tragedy of Medea, reimagined by Resident Director Drew der Kinderen, with the extraordinary performer Lauren Jackson in the lead role-MEDEA.

LATEST ANNOUNCEMENT!! We have added TWO more shows due to popular demand!

Past and present blur together, as Medea tries to reconcile the events of years gone by, and her own guilt, before she dies. Time and space shatter, as the echoes of Medea’s deeds reverberate through her life. How did someone so strong, so intelligent become so overwhelmed with the need for revenge? How can someone live on, when they have cut out their own heart?

Making use of multimedia and a unique physical approach to creation and performance, Zen Zen Zo’s Medea: The River Runs Backwards, will bring this powerful story of betrayal, passion and loss to a contemporary audience.

The IN THE RAW Studio Season is a key part of Zen Zen Zo’s cycle of developing new and challenging work for Queensland audiences. Created in 2005, IN THE RAW provides a place for the company to return to its experimental roots, performing mostly devised work in site-specific or non-traditional theatre spaces, where the physical and visceral performance style of Zen Zen Zo is brought to the fore.

ROSIE is the debut EP from an 18-year-old singer-songwriter from Brisbane who has cast a spell on all in her path in the past twelve months. Feature songs ‘Around Here’, ‘Father Said’ and now ‘Dollar’ are making their way into the nations consciousness.

Since the homemade demo of FATHER SAID, Thelma recorded her debut EP with Tony Buchen (John Butler/Washington) in late 2012. Gently sharing the EP with lovers of Australian music, to say Thelma has been embraced is an understatement. She has been Unearthed by Triple J, won a Deadly award for best emerging talent and with her exquisite acoustic set Thelma has opened national tours for Bob Evans and Emma Louise and is keenly sought after for festival slots at Bleach*, St Kilda, Woodford Folk Festivals and jam packed her tent at Bluesfest in April.

Currently performing as an acoustic duo with her mate Andrew Lowden the “Rosie” tour is a rare chance to experiences the intimacy of the songs before Thelma brings the band on the road.

Thelma’s first headline national tour to celebrate the ROSIE EP will wind its way around Australia in July – fall in to the special magic place that is THELMA PLUM.

DAWN –led by Australian/Canadian chanteuse Kimberley Dawn Lysons– is gearing up for their National album launch tour, kicking off in Brisbane on June 1st at the Old Museum! Jeff Martin (The Tea Party) has been working with Dawn for the past 12 months on “The Spinning Jenny”– the product of an unlikely artist / producer collaboration between a playful folk and world music singer and the dark and brooding Tea Party front man. Dawn and her fellow renegades form a high-energy ensemble, delivering ethereal vocals, intricately textured sound and an exotic “East meets West” neo-Victorian aesthetic. Dawn will be supported by the dangerous and delectable concoction that is… Le Suits.

‘Authentic’ and ‘timeless’ are two words that convey a lot of importance in the world of Americana country music. Being true to the values and aesthetics of one’s forebears in the rich lineage of the genre is a cherished trait, as important as possessing good songs and the players exhibiting a strong chemistry.
Now we welcome a duo from the sleepy Californian hamlet of Eagle Rock (no, not that Eagle Rock) who possess all of the above attributes in spades. The Milk Carton Kids – singers and guitarists Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan – peddle a brand of music as ‘authentic’ and ‘timeless’ as you could ever hope to hear, their voices and trademark vintage guitars meshing into one glorious single entity that seems to emit from a bygone era, as if they’d ploughed dustbowls with Guthrie and jumped trains with Kerouac to gather insight for their beautiful narratives. Their music is clearly of American heritage but equally hard to pin down, not seeming to be rooted in the fields of the north, the swamps of the Deep South, the deserts of Texas nor the mountains of Appalachia, yet somehow encompassing the distinctive virtues of each of these locales.
Despite being a relatively new venture – they only formed The Milk Carton Kids in 2011 – the pair have already released two acclaimed albums (2011’s Prologue and their brand new effort The Ash & Clay) and shared stages with acts such as Old Crow Medicine Show and K.D. Lang, as well as undertaking literally hundreds of their own headlining shows. Legendary director Gus Van Zandt chose three of their songs for his feature film Promised Land, trading heavily on their aura of nostalgia plus the rural values which liberally permeate their muse.
Now Australian audiences are going to experience the myriad pleasures of The Milk Carton Kids firsthand when the pair head southwards for their inaugural Australian visit this June, bringing a touch of both history and the future to appropriately ornate venues up and down the east coast. Find out for yourself why they’re rapidly becoming one of the hottest properties on the red hot Americana circuit, and get bragging rights for being the first on your block to get into the down home goodness of The Milk Carton Kids!

Owning a bluesy, rich voice and fluid guitar style has earned Brisbane’s Hailey Calvert many new fans in Australia and internationally. She has toured to London, Ireland and played at famous New York venue The Bitter End as well as impressing audiences at the 2012 Woodford Folk Festival and the sold out Red Deer Festival. Her latest album release ‘Geography’ is described as a personal postcard about home, faraway places and random feelings along the way.
Stripped back now and leaving more to the imagination with her “beautiful and thought provoking songs”. He has an innate ability to tell stories through song. His music is brimming with old time folk and blues influences, but he has found his groove in incorporating the sounds of his trusty lap slide guitar. Pat has been playing music for a long time and intends on bringing his music to audiences for a long time to come. While the creation of his music may pay homage to the likes of Ben Harper, Harry Manx & Bob Marley, Pat’s laid back and individual sound shines through on his latest self-produced EP ‘Take On The World’, released in June 2012.
