Pedro Noguera is one of the country's most important voices on education reform, diversity, and the achievement gap. An award-winning educator, author and activist, he is a professor at the Steinhardt School of Education at New York University, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education and co-Director of the Institute for The Study of Globalization and Education in Metropolitan Settings. An urban sociologist, Dr. Noguera’s scholarship and research focus on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions in the urban environment.</p>
<p>A powerful speaker with a unique ability to connect with diverse audiences, he is an expert on topics such as urban school reform, youth violence, the conditions that promote student achievement and the potential impact of school choice and vouchers on urban public schools. A prolific writer and editor, Dr. Noguera's books include Unfinished Business: Closing the Racial Achievement Gap in Our Schools; The Color of Success: Race And High-Achieving Urban Youth; Beyond Resistance: Youth Activism and Community Change: New Democratic Possibilities for Practice and Policy for America's Youth and the groundbreaking City Schools and the American Dream: Reclaiming The Promise of Public Education (Winner, Forward Magazine Award for best book in education 2003; American Association of Educational Studies, Book of the Year Award, 2005).<br><br></p>

Michelle Duster is the great granddaughter of the famous journalist, civil rights activist, and suffragist Ida B.&nbsp;Wells.<br /><br /><br />&nbsp;<a style="display: inline;" href="http://wcownews.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451e32769e2014e870622f1970d-pi"><img class="asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d83451e32769e2014e870622f1970d" title="MICHELLE DUSTER" src="http://wcownews.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451e32769e2014e870622f1970d-800wi" border="0" alt="Ida Wells" /></a>&nbsp;<br /><br />Michelle offered a personal narrative of how the well-known investigative journalist Ida B. Wells became a crusader for change on the international stage.&nbsp;She discussed the increasing influence of media conglomerates on public discourse and opinions. Michelle Duster has written two books that include the writing of Ida B. Wells; "Ida In Her Own Words", and "Ida From Abroad".</p>

"Food Inc.,"  has sold nearly <a href="http://wcownews.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451e32769e2014e868e7dc7970d-pi" style="display: inline;"></a>500,000 DVDs, while receiving widespread critical acclaim. The film has received dozens of awards and nominations, as well as influencing current food policy decisions. Kenner received a Peabody and an Emmy for “Two Days in October,” depicting simultaneous events in 1967: a deadly Vietcong ambush and a violent campus protest.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 60px;">He was co-filmmaker with Richard Pearce on “The Road to Memphis” for the Martin Scorsese series, “The Blues.” Newsweek called “The Road to Memphis” “a fine  film, ever made about American music” and “the unadulterated gem of the Scorsese Series.” <span style="font-size: 11pt;">Kenner has directed numerous specials for National Geographic and PBS’s </span>“American  Experience” series, as well as award winning commercials and corporate films for a wide range of <a href="http://wcownews.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451e32769e2014e5fb3a694970c-pi" style="display: inline;"></a>clients. Kenner recently completed “When Strangers Click," seen on HBO. He is currently creating “Small Steps,” a series of animated web and television spots about the unsustainable nature of the industrial food system.  </p>

Prematurity is a national crisis, affecting families, schools, and communities while creating costs to businesses and health care. <a href="http://www.marchofdimes.com/" target="_blank" title="March Of Dimes">The March of Dimes </a>is at the forefront of this fight to end prematurity with a multiyear, multimillion-dollar national campaign through research, education and preventative health care measures.</p>

<p>Some of the topics they addressed included: what is prematurity, what are the implications, warning signs, ethnic and racial disparities of prematurity, is prematurity preventable and are the last few weeks of pregnancy important for the health and well-being of the baby. Each topic shed light on the fact each of us can be affected by prematurity.  </p>

The reforms provide a road map for how shools can protect college students from falling victim to  problematic credit card marketing practices.  As his statewide investigation into student credit card marketing continues, Cuomo called on all New York colleges and universities to adopt the reforms.</span></p>
