Open-Air Office, a project designed by Antonas office, has been awarded in the category ‘The best built work of the years 2009-2011’ in "DOMES 2011" Awards. The space of Open-Air Office hosted ReMap 3 Info Point (12/9 - 30/10/2011). During ReMap 3, Open - Air Office provided information material for the event. Constructed out exclusively by IKEA furniture, the design was applied in the outdoor courtyard of the run-down Athenian building at 2, Giatrakou Street, in Avdi Square, Metaxourgeio. "DOMES Awards" are presented yearly to promote contemporary architecture in Greece.[...]

World-renowned German publisher Taschen has recently released a two - volume publication entitled "100 Contemporary Houses" by Philip Jodidio, one of the most popular writers on architecture. Subtitled Exceptional contemporary houses from Chile to Croatia to China, volume1 features ALONI, the multi-awarded house by deca ARCHITECTURE and part of OLIAROS' AntiparosDesignProperties project. As mentioned in the publisher's website, "This publication rounds up 100 of the world’s most interesting and pioneering homes from the past decade, featuring a host of talents both new and established, including John Pawson, Richard Meier, Shigeru Ban, Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Herzog and de Meuron, Daniel Libeskind, Alvaro Siza, UNStudio, and Peter Zumthor".[...]

Following the recent adoption of tax and financial measures, regarding the areas Gerani and Kerameikos -Metaxourgeio in Athens by the Goverment, Naftemboriki newspaper and its weekly edition "Real Estate" published an article by journalist Teti Igoumenidi, entitled "Need for comprehensive measures to upgrade the center of Athens" The article hosts views of OLIAROS Managing Director and refers to the KM Properties project, announced by OLIAROS a year ago - now on hold, waiting developments and a comprehensive, stretegic plan for the center of Athens. All pictures in this post by EPFL On May 31st and June 1st, lapa (EPFL’s laboratory of architectural production) presented the results of this semester’s work: a range of projects which aim at improving the quality of urban life by addressing the issues of immigration, scarcity of means and reversing the urban decay that has marked Athens' center in recent decades. Each project is located on a different site and also aims at revealing the potential of Athens' urban fabric. OLIAROS supported this research project, realized in two semesters: “Athens: City of Immigrants” (fall semester 2010) and “Athens: Architecture of Integration” (spring semester 2011). Final reviews in Lausanne included presentation of students’ research projects following their visit in Athens last November, during which the symposium “Athens in Crisis” also took place. The main points include incentives for young people to move to the city's center, as well as measures regarding citizens' safety and immigrants' issues. Particular emphasis is given to the restoration of safety and legitimacy to the Centrer of Athens. OLIAROS' 18+ Student Housing project has been put on hold

OLIAROS' student housing project "18+" has been put on hold, taking into account the new Greek tax regime and cost of capital. The current financial state makes this project unfeasable, as the rent would have to be raised up to 30% from its initial budget. OLIAROS is eager to begin construction as soon as tax circumastances become more favorable and the State takes action towards the reversion of the continuous depreciation of the City's center. OLIAROS announced the development of "18+ Student Housing", introducing new, purpose built student housing complexes, incorporating contemporary architecture, to offer creative, sustainable, functional, socially interactive environments, found in the Athens City Center. "18+ Student Housing" is the result of the international architectural competition upto35, that OLIAROS organized in June 2009, designed by Joao Prates Ruivo and Raquel Maria Oliveira (FORA).[...]

European Forum of Architectural Policies, in collaboration with the Urban Intergroup took the initiative of organizing the conference "NON-CITY? New urbanity Innovative visions towards the European Urban Agenda", putting Architecture, its value and potential in the centre of European discussion and brainstorming. OLIAROS has been invited to participate in the conference, taking place in the European Parliament, Brussels, on February 9th 2011. OLIAROS presented its approach as a private sector of urban development, in particular through its current KM Properties project, consisting a representative example of Architecture’s fruitful contribution to the urban future of European cities. Construction has kicked off with our first two buildings in KM!!

Phase I of the KM Properties project by OLIAROS kicks off, with the construction of two buildings in the KM area: Kerameikou 51 and Leonidou 26. Kerameikou 51 is a 1970’s building, overlooking Avdi square. The building will be renovated to become an energy efficient building with versatile open space plan units that can be utilized for a range of uses: artist studio, office, atelier or apartment. Distinguished architect Andreas Angelidakis has collaborated with acclaimed Norwegian artist and writer Matias Faldbakken to create the concept for the renovation of this very centrally located building. Katoikia, a private residence, rests in the location of a former farmhouse, between a large cedar tree and a fig grove and hovers over the pristine valley. Its simple horizontal volume is designed to be perceived as an antipode to the terraced slope. It respects the existing landscape to the outmost and highlights the drama of it. "As we began this project, we were immediately faced with contradictions. The site commands views in every direction, but came with the northern wind so strong which made it difficult to enjoy the views. Situated at the ridge of a hill, but could not build above the ridge line. A new architecture needed to be created, using the vernacular language of Antiparos. In an attempt to transform these contradictions into a spacial quality, lead us to the placing of stone walls following the contour of the site, half buried into the hill, yet fans outward by angle variations of the walls.[...]

KM Protypi Geitonia created on Saturday, Dec 11th, along with the School Building Organization and with the sponshorship and volonteers of Kiehl's in attica at Panepistimiou str., a uniquely designed space for the chlidren of the Kerameikos - Metaourgeio area. As part of KM Protypi Geitonia initiatives to protect and improve the KM area, in particular as part of our efforts to redesign public space in KM, we transformed an empty plot of the School Building Organization in Sfaktirias str. into a crative space for children of various ages. Fania Sinanioti & Katerina Vordoni, VOIS Architects, designed a unique garden for children to creatively enjoy themselves in open space.[...]
