New Book - Here We Are

I am delighted to announce that I have a new book out, HERE WE ARE: Notes for Living on Planet Earth, published 14th November, 2017.

It's been over a year and a half in the making and is based on the things I began saying to our newborn son the moment we took him home from the hospital as I gave him a quick tour of our apartment.
It started off as a book about the realization that new life is a blank slate (trying to explain what a door is, and what a kitchen is for), and the strangeness of being a new parent. But as the book unfolded, so did the global events of the last year or so, and it felt like it became more urgent to reinforce some basic things my parents taught me about the simple principles of humanity. I wanted my son to know that while we are all unique individuals, we are all in this together.

I'm delighted to announce my first line of Apparel and Collectibles is launching at Parisian department store Colette and on oliverjeffersstuff.com.

Over the past year I have collaborated with a small network of talented friends, together we worked to make a limited line of objects that we hope to be covetable — not disposable – with a commitment towards ethical manufacturing.

Inspired by my picture-book, Once Upon an Alphabet, this line animates some of the memorable characters and visual elements of the work. The story of the Cup who falls from the cabinet comes to life as a set of porcelain mugs, a smiling "before" and a mournful "after". The apparel is largely inspired by my signature typography, with the overarching concept that the 26 letters from A to Z are the building blocks of all the stories we tell. New Ways of Seeing with Jerry Satlz

New Collaborative Print with JR on 99Prints

My new collaborative print with my good friend JR, entitled "Up Here Down There," goes on sale tomorrow on www.99prints.net.

This print depicts a leaping figure with a network of invented constellations in place of its head. The constellations are named after a number of working class neighborhoods in Paris and Belfast, JR's and my home cities. The piece is meant to pay tribute to the vibrancy and creativity that flow out of those neighborhoods and others like them around the world.

Faberge Big Egg Hunt NYC

Have a go at finding the egg I created an egg for the 'Big Egg Hunt' in NYC, the world’s biggest egg hunt organised by Fabergé.

The event is 100% charitable, raising money for children in New York City through Studio in a School, and conservation efforts through Elephant Family, saving the endangered Asian elephant and its habitat.

200 egg sculptures, each individually created by artists, designers and creatives, will be displayed across the city for three weeks then auctioned for the charities.

Other egg designers include Diane von Furstenberg, Ronnie Wood, Marc Quinn, Bruce Weber, Zaha Hadid, Peter Beard, Carolina Herrera, Jacques Torres and William Wegman, the eggs will be ‘hidden’ in public places across all five boroughs, taking hunters on a journey to find them.

In partnership with Sotheby’s, the highly collectable sculptures are auctioned at the end of the event, raising substantial funds for economically disadvantaged children and critically endangered wildlife.

Moose receives Honour award from CBI

This Moose Belongs to Me received the Honour Award for Illustration from Childrens' Books Ireland.

The judges said ‘Illustratively striking in its blending of collage and landscape painting, this is an imaginatively absurd book that encourages the reader to meditate on concepts of identity, ownership, and friendship.’

The exhibition will feature drawings, paintings, dioramas and other ephemera that ponders competition and natural order by depicting scenes in which animals, not typically thought to be aggressive, do battle.

Brooklyn Museum

I am delighted to announce that I have been selected to exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.

I was nominated by the public as one of the top ten artists during the open studio weekend of GO Brooklyn, in conjunction with the Brooklyn Museum.

The Museum have curated a show from the nominees, and it is with great pride that I can say that I am one of 5 artists who will be included in the final exhibition. Thanks to all involved and to those who visited my studio and voted.

The show will run from 1st December 2012 to 24th February 2013.

The Brooklyn Museum will be free to the public on 1st Dec.

Famous Five 70th Anniversary

Along with Quentin Blake, Helen Oxenbury, Emma Chichester Clark and Chris Riddell, I illustrated the cover of a Famous Five classic to celebrate 70 years of Enid Blyton's books. This is my version of 'Five go to Smugglers Top'.

Published by Hodder, the limited edition books will go on sale in May and a percentage of royaties will go to the House of Illustration.

Back to porridge

Thats me back to a very hot and sticky NYC after a great few weeks of travel.

The Hay festival went great, I met lots of brilliant people including Darren Shan, Michael Morpurgo and I even brushed shoulders with Camilla The Duchess of Cornwall. I did get the chance to catch the brilliant David Sedaris talk, though I still wish I had asked him that question I had.
My own talk went well, a great turnout and lots of enthusiasm from everyone.

Chris Evans was there too broadcasting live, he announced the winners of the BBC Radio 2 story writing competition which I helped judge, congratulations to all the winners, and check them out here.

Back in London, I had a great few days with HarperCollins planning future projects. At the end of the week the Stoke Newington Festval was also a success, the childrens festival being in its first year. Thanks to everyone who came for their patience. Afterwards, I was lucky enough then to get a tour of Mr Bingos sudio and spend some time comparing handwriting.

So for now I'm back in my studio getting stuck into all those things I've put on hold, 38 deg in NYC! I'd better get the AC put in.

New Studio

After nearly a year of searching, I am finally moved into and getting settled in my new studio in Brooklyn. There is still a bit of work to be done, but its not far off. Very excited to get to work on some new projects in the new space, and also take advantage of the balcony in the warm weather (well fire escape really).
