We’re being facetious of course. Down with impotent genre tags and narrow-minded music listening. This is going to be a great fucking album, much as their last was, and it’s great to see it find a home at Relapse. There is a limited edition of 300 on blue vinyl with letter-pressed art print that is current only available at relapse.com.

Somehow, Thrill Jockey seems to continue to confound my expectations. At the time, the signing of Liturgy seemed like a hard left turn for the label. Now they’ve got a new album from The Body on the way and then there’s this… a huge, metallic dirge of a drone album from Wrekmeister, known by his friends as JR Robinson. As the press release states, there are more than a few of experimental/black metal’s anti-luminaries contributing to this LP (Wrest and Sanford Parker to name a couple), and their presence brings this recording down into the darkest depths. Complimented by a high-spec tip-on gatefold jacket with art from Simon Fowler and the usual flawless Thrill Jockey pressing, this is one to look out for at your local record store. Or why not go ahead and get your pre-order in at thrilljockey.com.

A new album of enchanting songcraft from Steve Gunn is available to pre-order right now, shipping ten days ahead of its June 18th release date. Apparently this marks his first album with a full band, which of course includes long time collaborator John Truscinski. If you think all the golden singer-songwriter albums can only be pilfered from your father’s collection, think again. Pressed onto 180 gram virgin vinyl and housed in a matte tip-on sleeve for $18 at paradiseofbachelors.com.

That’s practically a fact but you’ll notice I used an ambiguous phrase (i.e. might) to avoid the comments section from turning into a shitshow (as if anybody ever comments on anything when we aren’t giving away test pressings for free). Anyways, it’s great to see the label pressing up their own vinyl, even if it takes a little longer for the music to actually make it to your turntable. Eventually I will get around to saying something about the newest record from Evoken, something along the lines of “some of the most finely crafted funereal doom to come out so far this year”… but that’s not right at all because I’m pretty sure this came out last year. Colored vinyl is still available at profoundlorerecords.com. Snatch it up.
