Shame on us for not writing this up yet. When this release was announced, there was some valid speculation on whether or not another version of Sleep’s legendary album was really necessary. After hearing the remastered version, we are both in agreement that it was, indeed, necessary. This is louder than you’ve ever heard the album before. There is more clarity and depth to the recording on this version, without sacrificing any of the sludge and red-eyed haze that makes it so spectacularly heavy in the first place. I would go so far as to say that even if you already own the Tee Pee version, as I do, that this is still a necessary purchase. The entire internet agrees. Been sitting on this post for far too long. As ya’ll may know, I am a pretty huge Tortoise fans. TNT was an album that opened up a whole new world of sound to me, and I’m sure that more than a few other 90s alt-rockers feel the same way. Exciting news then that Thrill Jockey went ahead and repressed the debut 7″s as a special RSD package; if you weren’t able to track down a copy, then you should know that Experimedia has been sitting on some stock for a couple of weeks now. We’ve been talking about adding more bloggers to the team here for awhile, and the first name on our “dream list” has always been Anthony Fantano (we’re huge fans of The Needle Drop and his YouTube channel). He somehow agreed to do a few videos here and there reviewing physical vinyl records that he’s particularly excited about. This week, he’s taking on High On Fire’s new album, “De Vermis Mysteriis”.
