Got stopped for not wearing a seat belt. He kept my drivers license and sending them back to DMV to be cancelled. Wouldn't let me drive, so Wanda had to take over from there and drive. Have to go get a social security number verification in order to get my licence back from DMV. Never in my life lost my license until now and it took something small as a stupid SS#.I feel cheated! If I had to have license taken, rather have had it been something bigger to make it worth the trouble. LOL Oh well, life goes on and I get to set back while Wanda does all the driving. lol Maybe Wanda will pay my $15 seat belt ticket too. ;-)

History Lesson

True or not, I don't known. A friend sent it to me and I enjoyed reading and wanted to share it, so here goes........

There is an old Hotel/Pub in Marble Arch, London, which used to have a gallows adjacent to it. Prisoners were taken to the gallows, (after a fair trial of course) to be hung.
The horse drawn dray, carting the prisoner, was accompanied by an armed guard, who would stop the dray outside the pub and ask the prisoner if he would like "ONE LAST DRINK",
If he said YES, it was referred to as "ONE FOR THE ROAD"
If he declined, that prisoner was "ON THE WAGON"
So there you go.. More bleeding history.

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were, "Piss Poor", but worse than that, were the really poor folk, who couldn't even afford to buy a pot, they "Didn't have a pot to Piss in" & were the lowest of the low.
The next time you are washing your hands and complain, because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.

Here are some facts about the 1500's:
Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May and they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of flowers, to hide the body odour.
Hence the custom today, of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.
The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!"

Houses had thatched roofs, thick straw piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom, where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top, afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, "Dirt Poor." The wealthy had slate floors, that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing.
As the winter wore on, they added more thresh, until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way. Hence: a thresh hold. (Getting quite an education, aren't you?)

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle, that always hung over the fire. Every day, they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight, then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme: "Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot, nine days old".

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon, to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "Bring home the Bacon." They would cut off a little, to share with guests and would all sit around talking and "Chew the fat".

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning & death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided, according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or "The Upper Crust".

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination, would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road, would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of "Holding a Wake".

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So, they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, thread it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell.
Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night, (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, "Saved by the Bell" or was considered a "Dead Ringer"
And that's the truth.

Now, whoever said History was boring ! ! !

Don't know whats ahead for this blog. I bang my head against the wall every day to come up with a post. But after being sick and the surgery, nothing comes to me. Not a rant or joke. Not even a life these days to blog about. I surf the internet, nothing jumps out at me. To tell the truth, I'm having trouble just trying to say what I want, here. Going to give it a bit more thinking. Much as I love blogging, maybe it's came the time to be over and maybe Off The Bricks fits much better than On The Bricks these days.

Jeezzzzzz, it's all got my head spinning! Been working on what gets linked where this evening and I got to say it's all crazy stuff on the internet today. Trying to find good sites that will link where you want. Like getting twitter and a facebook fan page to update when this blog makes posts. Or getting this and that to post on facebook when I do something, say on Flickr or Utube.

And not to mention how many sites there are around the internet that will posts a link from here to there and then back to where ever who knows where, maybe back to the planet Mars!
Oh yeah, then you have to deal with all the sites that will pick up this blog and posts a link more that once at one place. LOL!! I run into that this evening on Twitter. I had posts that were catching up from a year ago and updating on Twitter 2, 3 and 4 times of the same posts. I'm hoping I have that problem corrected now! *crossing fingers* lol

LOL! Someone once told me blogging was fun. AGGGGH! Where's he at right now............. ;-)

Dear Mr. Obama:

Were those Muslims that were in America when the Pilgrims first landed? Funny, I thought they were Native American Indians.

Were those Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving day? Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and Native American Indians.

Can you show me one Muslim signature on the United States Constitution?

Declaration of Independence ?

Bill of Rights?

Didn't think so.

Did Muslims fight for this country's freedom from England ? No.

Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America ? No, they did not. In fact, Muslims to this day are still the largest traffickers in human slavery. Your own half brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as "pug nosed slaves." Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family's "rich Islamic heritage," doesn't it Mr. Obama?

Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country? Not present.

There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.

Where were Muslims during this country's Woman's Suffrage era? Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. Yep, the Muslims are all for women's rights, aren't they?

Where were Muslims during World War II? They were aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and accepted support from the Nazi's in killing Jews.

Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001? If they weren't flying planes into the World Trade Center , the Pentagon or a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East . No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news networks that day. Strangely, the very "moderate" Muslims who's asses you bent over backwards to kiss in Cairo , Egypt on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To many Americans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.

And THAT, Mr. Obama, is the "rich heritage" Muslims have here in America .

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates. They were Muslim.

And now we can add November 5, 2009 - the slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be counseling soldiers returning from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan .

That, Mr. Obama is the "Muslim heritage" in America .

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Chilly came through surgery fine today even though it took an extra hour-and-a-half for it to get done. I was about standing on my ears by the time the Dr. came out.
The Dr. said one of the disks in his neck had completely ruptured and the other two had deteriorated so badly they were rubbing together and completely covered with bone spurs. I left him at the hospital tonight to sleep because he was trying to stay awake with me there.
I will be going back to the hospital in the AM but he will not be able to come home until the afternoon. I'm sure he will get back on the computer as soon as he is able to.
Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers. You really know who your friends are during a time like this. ((((HUGS))))

If you get a chance, maybe you can think about me Tuesday Jan.5 when I will go into the hospital to have metal replacing 3 disc of the cervical spine to fuse it together in 4 places. Have some disc and bone spurs that is compressing on the spinal cord in my neck. Problem is bad enough at this point, if I were to fall or hit my head, very good chance I could snap my cervical spine and damage the spinal cord, which would leave me paralyzed from neck down with no way to ever fix it. So I have no choice but do it.
They found two spots where disc were compressing the spinal cord. Said one was from around 30 years ago and one was in the last few months. I know I've had very small neck pain from time to time over the years, but so small, I just ignored it. Now I wonder if I've been walking with this danger for years or just a short time.

Makes me wonder!

Surgery is Jan.5, 2010 and take 2 to 2 1/2 hours to do surgery. Be back home Jan.6......

unless I get a chance to slip out of the hospital. If so, then I will be home night of the 5th. lol Not staying one minute longer than I have too!!!!!

Down the center of these two photos is the spinal cord. Around the cord is a white fluid to cushion the spinal cord. I have disc and bone spurs that is compressing into the fluid and spinal cord as shown in the 1st photo.

Think about me if you will. Small chance, but yet still a chance I could still become paralyzed in surgery. I can take death, but I can't take paralyzed.

Test, Test And More Test

Latest update on how I am coming along. Many of you will remember I've had a lot going on this year with health. How I am coming a long has not been so good for many months. To recap, I stop smoking nearly eight months ago. The more I quit smoking the sicker I got. Maybe something to it, maybe not. I just don't know but may wonder if the tar and nicotine was covering up and hiding a sickness going on in side me. Anyway, for months now I've felt bad one day, feel good the next or feeling good or bad would change through the day. Get tired, muscles hurt, get out of breath real ez, get so tired, legs give out and I fall. Some days sleep 14, 16, 17 hours before I wake up. Some days sleep 3 hours and be wide awake. And that stuff is still happening today after all these months of not smoking.

At start, my doctor done test, found thyroid under active so she fixed that and I'm still having same problems.
Next she found my blood sugar high and thought maybe that is problem plus my body holding water. She fixed that and I'm still having same problems, so she set me up to see a Neurologist.
So not he sent me for some testing and we'll see what happens after his testing is done. lol But he did learn enough from my visit to him to know there's a problem that can make me do the things my body is doing, just have to find out where the problem lays. So........

This past Friday, I went and had a nerve conduction test done where they stick needles and run electricity to your nerves and muscles to see how they react. Don't care to ever do that again!!!

Now today I had a few more test. One was an echocardiogram and checking my heart for blood flow, leakage and if I had a stroke at sometime.

Next I had an carodit ultrasound test designed to check the blood flow in the arteries in the neck which supplies blood flow to the brain.

Then the fun came this evening when they done an mri of the brain and also an mri of the cervical spine. And then some odds and ends x-rays of the alignment of my neck and back.

The mri wasn't to bad, except you have to lay still without moving and took about 45 minutes with you laying inside of the tube with the walls maybe a couple inches from your face or any part of your body. Plus they clamped my head down so I didn't move it. All in all, the mri wasn't to bad.

I think, but not sure because they wouldn't tell me answers to each test, but I think all test went good except for maybe the mri. Because after they let me out of the mri machine, the guy running it ask me if I ever have numbness in my legs. That made me go hmmm for a minute.

Now to wait for my doctor to correct information on all these test and tell me what it takes to fix me.

Update:Dr called already this morning. MRI didn't go so good. Have appointment to see a surgeon later this month.

The way I understand it all.....
The surgeon I have to see is about my cervical spine. I'm having pinching of the nerves and my spinal cord. I'll know more into it when I set down with the surgeon.

Also I have something called, Neuropathies. Seems I've been a diabetic much longer than I thought and the diabetes is the reason for the Neuropathies.

Going back to 1969-1970. Used to enjoy watching this show a lot with my grandfather and no idea what made me think of it tonight. Anyone remember and can name the show????

Update: The show is called "Then Came Bronson". The actor is Michael Parks. And the show aired weekly from Sept.17, 1969 to Sept.9, 1970.

Out Of Town For A Bit....

Wanda and I hit the mountains with some friends last week. Been nearly five years and felt real good to get out for a while. Wanda and I went up to Cherokee, NC on a Friday and spent the night there. Then got up on Saturday and headed on over across the mountain to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, TN. Then met up with our friends in Sevierville, TN. that afternoon. Checked out some Christmas lights in Pigeon Force, but they were still putting up many more each day.

Just a few of many painted bear statues setting around different places through out Cherokee.

Love the mountains and maybe could enjoy living there.

This really caught my eye when we were driving through Sevierville.
