I hope to entertain you (somewhat any way) with my life as a mom, wife and homemaker. I have two children. A son I will call “Little Dude” and a daughter “Butter Bean”. I should also mention my husband that works too many hours and goes on too many business trips. Let’s call him “Big Daddy”. They are my life…and this blog is my representation of my crazy and wacky world of an on the go mom.

Quiet Please

I realize this blog has been pretty quiet lately. Do you ever get in a funk? I think the winter weather (that refuses to go away) has gotten to me a little. It is April and I'm desperate for some sunshine. Should I blame the overcast skies on global warming? Summer IS coming...right?

Yet in another way I can't beleive the school year nearing the end. My little dude will be done with Kindergarten and heading to 1st Grade in the fall. When I think of time and how it relates to my children it seems to be flying by way too quickly. So with that said, why has this winter dragged on so long for me? I have issues! I guess not being able to deal with grey skies for weeks on end is one of them. Okay, granted that is the least of my problems... ha, ha.

Oh gosh. I don't know what else to say. It has just been one of those days. Tomorrow is Monday and we are back to the regular routine of life. For me it is chauffeuring my kids around, laundry, cleaning and cooking. I need break. Even one day would be nice. Maybe then I wouldn't be so grumpy.

Online Community

My girlfriend and I were talking last week about the sense of community. When we were growing up we knew our neighbors. Our families would get together for neighborhood barbecues. I think everyone kept an eye out for one another’s kids. There was a real sense of community.

I do not see that as much any more. More families have both parents working out side of the home now. We all seem much more busy and more rushed. The sense of community in our neighborhoods is not there.

So where are we gathering? If you were to ask me I’d say on the internet. More and more people are writing blogs and joining on line communities. Someone recently suggested I join 3gb community www.3gb.biz. It is a place to meet new friends and even find some old friends that you’ve lost tough with. You can upload your photo albums, join group blogs, hear the latest mp3 hits, and chat with other members.

It sounds really neat. I’ve never found my way onto other community sites. I have always stuck to my comfort zone of blogging. However, it doesn’t hurt to check it out.

Toothache

I had been fighting a terrible, painful toothache. I hate the dentist. I mean… I really despise going. A few years ago I had a terrible experience. I was always a nervous patient, now I am a serious wreck. I just don’t trust dentists.

I know the importance of dental hygiene. I do not need to be lectured on that. I go for my 6-month cleanings (with great fear – but I DO go).

So here I was with a sore tooth. What the heck? I wanted to believe I had irritated gums. I wanted to believe the pain would go away. I started chewing on one side of my mouth. I told myself that it was getting better. It wasn’t.

So last week I went in to the dentist. I swear I didn’t sleep the night before. Apparently I had cracked a tooth. I needed a crown. Oh…that was FUN (said with much sarcasm). I seriously wish I could just pull out all my teeth and just have false teeth. I’d have no more cavities and beautiful, perfect white teeth. A nice dream.

lap band surgery

In the past I have written about my cousin. For almost a year she has been researching and contemplating weight-loss procedures. Last month she visited a los angeles lap band doctor. She has been leaning towards JourneyLite surgical centers. She likes that they put importance on her comfort from start to beginning. My cousin likes that they think of everything. From roomier gowns to wider hallways, bathrooms with handicap railings, and chairs without arms. It is those seemingly little things that make a big difference.

For now my cousin is still contemplating. It is a big decision and I think she feels it is the right one for her. It is a big step though, so I am glad she is taking her time and not just jumping into it without being fully educated and certain. I’ll keep you posted!

Seriously?

Ouch!

Seriously!!

This was posted on one of my favorite sites Post Secret this week. On one hand I can understand that teachers are human. They picked their profession to work with children. They perhaps didn't anticipate having to deal with parents on a daily basis. I will also say that I'm sure some parents are more of a hindrance then a help.

"Some" being a key word.

As a stay-at-home mom the comment about "getting a life and a job" was very insultive. I hate the stereotype that we just sit on the couch and eat bon-bons. I am here to say that we do not live vicariously through our children. I feel I have a life and an identity outside of being a mother.

I don't know. I'll stop now because I could rant for ever. I just hope I never have to deal with a teacher who views me in this light.

University

This is cool. That is right. You might as well stop reading now.

I have a couple sick kids at home. I think after 3 days they are finally on the mend. This means we were pretty much home bound over the President's Day weekend. We actually had some nice weather too. So it was tough being stuck in the house. I felt so bad for the kids. They were suffering from re-appearing fevers and colds.

I spoke with my hubby today at work. He complained that he was getting sick. Great.

Let me ask this...

What is worse 2 sick kids or 1 sick husband? Ha, ha. I don't know about you, but my guy tends to turn into a big whiney baby when he has a cold.

And this ends my brief and uninspiring post. I think I used to have very high and unrealistic expectations about this day. Now, that I am a mom the concept of celebrating cupid’s day has changed. I spend the week before working with my children on cards for their friends. I relish their excitement over the school parties they attend and the cards they receive.

My husband and I have always kept this day pretty simple and basic. A card, dinner, and maybe inexpensive gifts are exchanged. Since the kids have arrived we usually order in dinner. Since I am not a fan of the kitchen a night off from cooking a meal is always a welcomed gift. I’m a simple girl I guess – ha, ha.

Oh the life of a stay at home mom. No rose peddles in bath water, or glasses of champagne by the fireplace… still you won’t hear me complain.

I hope your day was filled with love.

A Day Without Rain

We had a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL Saturday. The sun was out and the sky was blue. It was wonderful. It was just what I needed to lift my spirits. The gray skies and rain was starting to really get me down.

The kids were outside riding their bikes, using sidewalk chalk and playing at the park. Oh, I know it was just a taste of the Spring to come. In fact the clouds and drizzle has since returned. Still Saturday was perfect. It made me remember what a beautiful city I live in too. It is amazing what a little taste of sunshine can do to refuel a person.

The kids on the other hand are feeling a little antzy now. They are stuck back inside, and they don't like it much.

Winter is nearing it's end right? In another month or two we'll be back in our flip flops and t-shirts. I should clarify and say a previously owned vehicle.

Everything costs money. Not just a car, but also the gas, the maintenance, the repairs and lets not forget about the auto insurance.

I am checking out Cost-U-Less. They have been in the insurance business since 1980. They have many stores located in Northern California, and they are quickly expanding all over the State. They have ten locations in Southern California, which serve cities in and around Anaheim, Long Beach, Palmdale, Pomona, Whittier, Santa Ana, Torrance, Victorville, San Bernardino, Lancaster and Tarzana. They promise excellent and affordable auto insurance. I think they are worth checking further into for my insurance needs. If it can save money, it is worth my time to investigate further.

Whats the Blog?

I logged in my blog tonight. Happy that the kids are in bed and I have some free time to myself. However, now that I'm here...I realize that I have nothing much to say. With that said, what does that say about me?? Ha, ha.

Today was an exciting one for me (and I'm saying that with sarcasm). I completed 2 loads of laundry and cleaned the bathrooms. Whooo hooo! Oh, and I did run to the grocery store and pick up a few groceries with my daughter in tow.

The rain continues to fall. This leaves me in a lazy frame of mind. Can I blame the dark wet skies on my fuzzy mommy brain? I hate to think it is actually old age that leaves me too tired to think.

So... I guess with that said, I will now log off and watch American Idol on TV. I know, I lead quite the exciting life. I bet you are glad you dropped by tonight! I hope things are a little more exciting in your world!

Car Shopping

Car Prices can be scary. I have an 11 year old beater of a car. It now has a nasty oil leak. I need to have it looked at. I am hoping it won’t cost a lot to fix. However, I know that I’ll need a new car in the very new future. My car is falling a part.

I checked out carsblvd.com. They offer several convenient options to help consumers who are car shopping. Besides information and pictures of cars, they also offer quotes. You just need to enter your zip code and the make and model of the car you are interested in. This site can then match your request with local dealers near you. If you need help with financing they can you with that too.

I find the whole car shopping experience very stressful. I know I will feel more confident if I educate myself first.

Lazy Days

I don't know what it is like in your end of the world. However, out here it has been overcast, wet, and dull. The kind of days where you just wish you could curl up in bed and read or watch a movie. Lazy days.

Except I have kids, commitments, and well...life I have to tend too. So each morning I leave my warm bed and head out in the rain. I keep the lights on in the house all day because it is SO DARK outside.

I find myself craving for an afternoon nap. Again, the kids put any hope of that happening to rest. So, I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a "Sun Dance". I hate feeling like I'm walking around in a fog. I need some sunlight to wake myself up. Unfortunately rain is forecasted to continue through the week...

A trip to Hawaii sounds mighty nice right now...

Dora the Explorer

Dora the Explorer is my daughter's hero. My daughter calls her "Dora Bora". I'm guessing Bora is Dora's last name - LOL.

I'll admit it is a cute show, but as an adult I can only take so much of it. Fortunately it is on the same time as "hot topics" on the View. Which is my favorite daytime show. So we each enjoy half an hour of a lone time with own respective televisions.

Is that bad? I hope not.

I enjoy a little break in my day. It's only 30 minutes. When her Dora show is over, my daughter will shut off the tv upstairs and come and find me in the family room. From there we continue on with our day.

Are You Cold?

It has been freezing out here the past few days. So cold my son’s Kindergarten class has been kept in-doors all week. We may not live in the artic, but it sure feels like we do. This is unusual weather for us. Should we be blaming global warming? It makes you wonder.

The worst part about our weather is the wind. Oh my! If we didn’t have the wind, we could handle the colder temperatures. However, we have this non-stop bone chilling wind that just seems to rip right through you. It is painful. It hurts.

Okay, I’m getting old and maybe a little on the wimpy side. I know this about myself. Yet, even my children shriek when they step outside.

On the positive side we are enjoying the blue sky and sunshine. My husband thinks this makes the colder temperatures worth well. However, since I’m constantly on the go, I disagree. I’d rather have cloudy skies and warmer weather. Running to and from the car against the cold wind is getting to me!

Valentines Day Shopping

One of my favorite holidays is quickly approaching. I just love Valentines Day and all that it represents. I guess I’m a romantic at heart. My mother used to buy my brother and I a little gift each year. I am passing that tradition on with my kids.

I went onto CouponChief.com and made a wish list of things I’d love to buy. They provide a one stop coupon deal and discount resource for web site visitors. They provide up-to-date coupon and promo codes as well as discounts which is unparallel in the online shopping e-commerce industry. If you read my blog, you know I am all about deals!

So I checked out the deals for such well known stores as Old Navy, Target, Dell and The Gap.

This is so much fun. I love getting quality items for less!!!

Amazing Race Anyone?

Did anyone catch the season finale of the Amazing Race last night? I really enjoyed it. I do miss the 2 hour season finales that they used to have though. All 3 teams were worthy of being in the finale. I would of been happy with any of them winning.

It was unique this time around. Usually a young male team wins. Although it was a young couple, they worked for their win up against a father/daughter team and grandpa/grandson team. It was an exciting finish.

It also gave me hope that if my girlfriend and I ever get on the show we might make it past the first episode. Ha, ha. That would be my goal. I wouldn't want to be eliminated first. This is the one reality show that I would LOVE to be on.

Home Improvements

We moved into our house about 2 years ago. Slowly, we have been doing some small home improvements. We started off with painting the walls with colors that suited our taste and family more then the previous owners. My husband has also done some landscaping in the back yard.

There is one big project that scares me a little. Yet, the problem annoys me just as much. We have hardwood floors in our kitchen. I’m guessing (and this is only a guess) the previous owners would wash the floors and before letting them dry they would put down a floor rug. This rug was under the kitchen table.

After they moved out my husband and I walked through the house for the first time empty. You can’t hide any thing when the furniture (and rugs) are gone. What we saw was major wood discoloration where their kitchen table had been. It is in a perfect circle.

We haven’t gone out and purchased a rug yet. I know this would be the easiest and less expensive “quick fix”. I would love to look at refinishing my Flooring. The work and expense of it scares me though.

I was doing some reading on a site called www.luxuryhousingtrends.com. They explained the process of refinishing hard wood floors and shared some good tips too. Basically it is an “easy” but very laborious process. The smartest thing for us to do is look at finding a professional to do it. It wouldn’t hurt to get a few quotes. It’s a shame to have such beautiful floors ruined in a fairly new home.

Just Another Day

It has been a quiet, perhaps boring, but a calm week. So, so nice. I think I needed a week with very few obligations and places to be. It has been good for my self being.

Life has just felt stressful and tense lately. I wondered if I would ever feel relaxed again. Where I could just sit down and actual let my mind rest. I have this never ending "to do list" constantly running through my mind. I keep thinking that once I get "such and such" done I will be able to relax. Yet, I never do. There is always something else that needs to be done.

I guess that is the life a mother? I'm not sure. I think I worry more then the common person. Seriously, I will worry about things I have absolutely no control over. Like...why? I wish I could be more easy going. I'd love to be one of those people who could go with the flow. I seem to need lists and schedules to feel somewhat in control of things.

Any way, today is just another day. Tomorrow I have a lot of obligations. I'll be running around from one place to the next. So today I am cleaning the house and doing laundry...and actually enjoying it. I need a life don't I?

I Need New Glasses

Check this out. A Great Discovery: www.ZenniOptical.com.

I haven’t had my eyes checked in over 2 years. This isn’t smart, I know. I have had glasses for years. I just tend not to wear them much. I feel like I am looking through windows. I’m also self-conscious, I guess. I have never found a set of frames that I feel suit my face. So I feel ugly in my glasses. I know what you are thinking and I agree. Lately my eyes have been bothering me. I know I need to not only start wearing my glasses get a new prescription. My vision has changed.

I just checked out ZenniOptical.com on line. They are advertising $8 complete prescription eyeglasses with a case. They are known for the best value prescription eyeglasses online, and for that price I have to agree. They have a great selection of frames with single vision lens, sunsensor (potochromic) lens, tinted sunglass lens, bifocal lens and even progressive lens.

They can offer such amazing prices because they sell only their own manufactured frames direct to the customer, with no middlemen and with virtually no advertising budget.

So, if you are in the market for new glasses, this site is worth checking out.

Creepy Neighbor Update

I know I have blogged about my creepy neighbor in over a month. There just wasn’t anything new to share. He continues to keep a low profile. It has been nice in that respect. As you know he really made me (and several others on our street) uncomfortable.

This morning as I was driving my kids to school I noticed a “For Sale” sign on his house. I think I went into complete shock. Obviously something happened. I still don’t know why the police visited his house before Thanksgiving. However, ever since there he has been in hiding. Now his house is up for sale.

It’s a good thing for our street. However he will be moving into and un-expecting neighborhood. Maybe it is unfair of me to judge him. Still I never felt comfortable around him. Some of his comments sent warning bells off in my head. So the fact that he won’t be down the street from my kids is a relief.

I just wonder what has happened…or what he did.

My Cousin and the Lap-Band System

I know I have talked in the past about my cousin and her struggle with weight. Last year she was diagnosed with diabetes, which got her seriously looking at her weight. She is very open about how she is considered morbid obese. She jokes about signing up for the TV show The Biggest Loser sometimes. However, due to her physical limitations she realizes the Lap-band system might be a better option.

The lap-band system has been said to be the safest, proven weight-loss surgery available. What I find interesting is it is the only weight-loss surgery that is completely reversible and adjustable for life! I have been re-visiting the website for JourneyLite and what they offer. It is a very informative site and one I’ll be forwarding to cousin as their weight loss Woodlands program might just be her answer.

First Day Back

So...did all the Mommies survive the first day back to school? I did (barely). I must admit I got used to lazy pajama wearing mornings. Getting the kids up, dressed and out the door in time was a little challenging. More on my part, rather then theirs.

I swear I kept waking up throughout the night to check the time. I was afraid I'd sleep in and we'd be late. Crazy. I own an alarm clock and my husband is usually still home as the kids and I eat breakfast. He wouldn't of left for work without waking me up had I actually slept in. Still, it is just one of my nervous tendencies. I worry about the silliest things.

Any way, to make this day harder on myself I (unknowingly at the time) booked myself a doctors appointment today as well. I hate visiting the doctor, still I want to be proactive with my health. So I ran off to my appointment once the kids were safely in their classrooms.

It's just after 5:00 here. We are going to have an EASY dinner. I'm going to make spaghetti. Tonight I will veg in front of the television. Is there even anything on to watch? Darn writer's strike. Any way, my goal is to relax. I need to have a good night's sleep.

Obviously from re-reading my post, the kids were ready to get back into the daily schedule. I on the other hand am having problems adjusting!!!

Online Casinos

Have you ever tried playing online poker or any other casino games? My brother-in-law is a big player. He is into all the different games that are available to play online. So when I read up on bet365, I thought about him. If he doesn’t use this website yet, I’m sure he’ll be giving it a try when I pass on their link.

Bet365 uses a large range of online betting facilities through their online casino and Sportsbook betting facility, interactive games section and poker playing area. I went online just to snoop and became rather interested in their bingo options.

I’m a secret bingo fanatic. My grandmother used to take me to bingo halls with her when I was young. At first I enjoyed the snacks and 7-up at intermission more then the one little card I’d play. However, as I got older I joined my Grandma in the love of the game. It maybe geeky, but I’ll admit it freely.

I think it is fascinating how many different types and styles of games are available online. I can see why it has become a popular form of entertainment. I know my brother-in-law first checked it out because of his love for poker. Once a month he gets together with his buddies to play. I'm sure it was through one of his friends that he first tried playing online. I think it has become a family event now. His wife and my nephews will sit around the computer with him to watch him play (and share their unsolicited advice). Ha, ha!!

Anyway, if you like to dabble with online casinos, check this one out. They are known to provide their customers with a secure online environment and lots and lots of entertainment!
