Long time no see a post from me! All is well and I must admit I get lazier the older I get!

Jim is now riding around in style. This was his first time on uneven ground and I must say it works pretty good. He uses it when we're going to be on hard surfaces for any length of time. Used it quite a bit when we went to Disney World. Most of the time he uses his cane

Spring

Do you look forward to Spring? I grew up in Michigan and I know Spring was a welcome change to the snowy, cold winters. Here in the south it's the same. We're tired of long pants, shoes and socks and we long for milder temperatures before Summer sets it.

Here in Tallahassee (and much of Florida!) Spring comes and goes in March. Some disgruntled Northerners like to send these cold fronts to annoy us! To be sure after the front passes we have lovely sunny days, but we're just as tired of the cold as all you Northerners. Stop it!

Yesterday I woke to 35 degrees and it was chilly inside so I had to run the furnace for a bit. Same this morning. Hopefully this will be the last Artic blast we'll have this year

Jim Has a Birthday

Our weekend was lazy. Didn't go anywhere on Saturday. I did some chores around the house. Laundry is always a big deal and I managed to strip the bed and remake it.

Sunday the birthday boy turned 84. Most of the day was spent quietly. We had some much needed rain roll through with a bit of thunder and a tornado watch. Sonsearae and Chris picked us up for an early dinner at Ted's. Jim had Bison meatloaf that he really enjoyed. I opted for Bison brisket, both came with mashed potatoes, gravy and buttered carrots. I have leftovers. I should not have indulged but it was so tasty!

Fat Tuesday. For years we lived in New Orleans and Mardi Gras is something to behold! We have some King Cake and Sonsearae gifted us with red beans a Jambalaya to enjoy. No celebrating for us. Tallahassee doesn't indulge.

Today was a normal day for us. Jim had some lab work done, he sees his PC next week. Meanwhile I had some 'carving' on my left ear. Awhile back my dermatologist took a sample and it was benign but they wanted a deeper slice this time to make sure. Right now it's quite painful and I can ice it and take Tylenol. Sleeping is the big problem. As you can imagine laying on this ear will be painful. I bought a pillow with a hole in it witch will help.

I hope this day was pleasing to you. Take some time for yourself! It's always nice to be pampered so spread the love.

Saturday's I weigh myself and today it was 100.5, I lost half a pound. Slept almost 9 hours. I prefer waking up naturally and this morning was 0650

For breakfast I had about a cup of vegetable barley soup with added mushroom, chopped and topped with some microgreens. A slice of toasted sour dough bread and my coffee

I've been growing my own microgreens and recently started sprouting seeds. Can't get much fresher!

Four ounces of orange juice mid morning. Lunch consisted of refried beans and way to much meat and cheese, leftovers from a Mexican meal out the other day. a Cutie orange

Took a wee nap

Afternoon coffee and two 'cream' puffs. The sun went away and the furnace came on😞 It's been nice so the furnace hasn't been running a lot

For dinner I had some leftover pasta and I sliced some mushrooms into it...tasty! also had some sourdough bread and I had a chocolate truffle. it is Valentines day

Not sure I've mentioned it, but I always have water within reach and drink several glasses a day. My evening snack was celery sticks

I'm going to track (at least try) my food intake for a few days. Maybe if I list my intake I'll get a handle on my food consumption.

Friday the 13th! Could be a bad omen 😊

Started my day with oatmeal and a little brown sugar sprinkled with nutmeg. Coffee 8 oz with silk soy creamer which contains sugar, shakes of cinnamon and nutmeg

I got my monthly haircut this morning, then we made a stop at Whole Foods Market. It's the only place in town where we can get our Silk Soy Creamer, Sonsearae and I both need it for our coffee. Also picked up some veggies, a sweet treat (on sale) and sushi.

We decided to eat out at Azu and enjoyed some yummy shrimp with Chinese veggies. It was a bento box and came with a gyoza and egg roll, noodles and fried rice. We brought half home! Hot green tea was enjoyed also. On the way out I grabbed a fortune cookie.

Once home we both took a nap!

With my afternoon iced coffee with soy creamer I enjoyed a sweet treats. Two were about the size of one doughnut. Remined me of a cream puff and had a chocolate filling.

For dinner I had my cucumber avocado sushi with four ounces of V-8. I had some celery sticks as a snack around 2030

I want to add that we don't always eat out but we enjoy it once or twice a week. Our budget allows for this and I don't have to cook a lot!

I won a charcutier board! I always enter contests. Now I need some ideas that don't include just meat and cheese

Life Update

Not sure how this will go. Many of my friends and family know I try to eat WFPB, SOS...What that means is Whole Food Plant Based no salt, oil or sugar. I'm struggling and working on this daily.

I weigh 101.5 and I'm not sure how I got to this weight but I like it! I wasn't trying to lose weight it just happened. I find myself checking the scales often.

I take medicine for diabetes and I believe it can be controlled with this way of eating. I just can't stick to it. My doctor wants me on meds for hypertension and cholesterol but I refuse. Again I believe if I can stick to a WFPB way of eating my numbers should come down. All of my research suggests it will help but only if I stick to the plan.

Do you struggle with health issues? What do you do to be healthier? Trust the meds your doctor prescribes?

Falling Behind

Where does the time go? Sometimes it passes so slowly that life is boring. Other times we're so busy I wish it would slow down.

Last month we celebrated Sonsearae's 55th birthday! She can't be that old!! Where did the time go?

We celebrated at Walt Disney World of course. A couple of friends from High School joined her and they had tons of fun. These Orchids are at the Polynesian Resort where we had breakfast on the last morning of our stay

Catching Up

As I mentioned I had a birthday last month and medically speaking there are days when I feel it. I just saw my doctor and had tests done. Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure that could be improved upon. Same tiresome issues.

Had a lovely birthday! Sonsearae is very thoughtful and makes sure I'm remembered. Of course, food was involved like two boxes of Dark Chocolate covered Cherries and she gave me this Tinker Bell purse

Jim has a birthday coming up in February and our daughter is turning 55 this month so what better place to celebrate than WDW? We're heading down on Monday for some fun. Sonsearae will be with a couple of high school friends, but we'll share her and perhaps keep them all entertained with our antics.

All these cold front are keeping our country well chilled! Forecasters kept saying we could get snow in Tallahassee...though it has been raining for several hours the temperature outside is 48 degrees this gloomy Sunday morning.

Had a lovely dinner with Chris and Sonsearae Saturday night. Restaurant was new to us Liam's and in Georgia. Not a large menu so it was easy to choose what to eat.

Spent Sunday mostly thinking about packing and packing. We did watch a football game. It annoys the crap out of me that it's like a lottery trying to find the NFL games! Most of the time we can't view them. Ate out of the fridge, little bit of this, a little bit of that.

It's 0700 and I'm waiting for Jim to get up. All that's left to pack are toiletries and the cold food bag, then we can load up and hit the road. Hopefully it will warm up enough to melt the frost on the car. Did you see where the Panhandle of Florida got snow? Didn't quite reach us, we just had cold rain.

I'ts Official! I'm Old

I woke up this morning and realized I haven't done a blog in ages! Not that I've got anything important to say other than I'm forgetful. I must work on that because who want to be old and forgetful? Perhaps it's because I turned 78 last month....hmmm😟

Earlier this month we went to St Marks National Wildlife Preserve. It was lovely weather and the day was sunny.

Unlike now because neither of us want to venture outside because we're into winter for us. Yesterday when I got up there was a heavy frost on the cars and it was really cold.

Right now, it's in the mid 40's just before 7 am. Forecasters were saying we could get snow!! I don't think so

This month I celebrate my 5-year anniversary as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. Of course, this is my third time so I'm not sure how many years in total I've been involved with SU

I'm still making cards!

It's starting to get light outside so I should finish my coffee, grab some breakfast and get my day started

Weather

We all have weather...sometimes good (most of the time if you think about it) sometimes bad. We all mention bad weather, great way to complain. He mentions rain and she says well we had hail! It's like we have to one up the event.

This time of year, here in Tallahassee, is lovely. We're getting into the 80's and 90's. But we've been staying comfortable around 75 degrees inside our home. I've noticed the cement slab under us is warming up because it doesn't cool off as much once the sun goes down.

Weather, we all have it!

Our patio has an upgrade. We're hoping the screen will help block the sun during the mornings.

my plants are growing and evolving

I repotted my oregano and bought a German Thyme to pair with it. I also bought two type of basil and another thyme

My crafting has been all over the place. My cards are turning into mixed media from several sources

I'm even dabbling in journal pages

Spring is Here!

Well, according to the calendar Spring is here. We had a small front move through the area this morning which dropped the temperature a wee bit. Had some gentle rain but once it passed through the sun came out and it was quite pleasant the rest of the day.

We didn't venture out. Jim slept in and I was up at my normal time before the sun came out. I was able to work on some cards while he slept.

Did all sorts of exciting stuff before he got out of bed...Like laundry, run the dishwasher...you know noisy things...but it didn't wake him up. That man knows how to sleep!

I also stripped the bed and changed over to our light colored, floral quilt. Now the bedroom is more summery.

We both had a nap and I'm sure Jim will stay up late because his nap was a long one!

We had a bizarre thing happen earlier this evening. A person walked into our apartment! This poor child was mentally challenged but very friendly! She had her puppy with her. I went outside to see if there was anyone looking for her but after about ten minutes Jim called 911 and they said they'd come around.

They were able to find where she lived, so all is well. They stopped by to tell us and the father came by and thanked us. I'm glad we were able to help but I think I'll lock our door from now on!

I love reading labels and discovering new items to eat. I especially like when my favorites are on sale. Today was fun shopping at Whole Foods with Sonsearae. She gets it....look for sale items, see if there's something new etc. Trying to find compliant foods for the various diets we all consume. I try to find food items that are healthier for Jim and I. He pretty much doesn't care what he eats but I prefer he eats whole foods and I try to entice him. I'm not saying I eat as healthy as I should but I'm always striving to do better

The weather today was perfect! This time of years has us with warm days and cool nights. I understand another front is going to bring us colder weather, according to Jim. The older he gets the less tolerant he is of the cold

This time of year is so nice...except for the pollen. We get spring storms that can be pesky but the temperatures are what we like.

We had lunch at Casa, it's taco Tuesday and they have an all you can eat buffet set up...and the two for one margaritas are tasty! After lunch we headed to Costco and picked up a few things, can't say we needed them but we got a new rug for the entry way. The previous rug didn't have non-slip so this one is safer. Raspberries for my breakfasts, cashews in a lovely glass jar for reusing in the pantry.

Then we headed to the car wash so Jim could get the pollen off the car. He has a subscription and if he wants he can pass through everyday! Once we got home I had me some iced coffee and sat outside for awhile

These cards are from a Stampin' Up Kit, Heirloom Arrangements. The kit makes eight cards using ephemera so each card will be have different items on each card. I'm finding I like working with ephemera!

Using ephemera from Not 2 Shabby I made three ATC's. An ATC is an Artist Trading Card that is 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. It can be traded or used as a card from. Two of them use Stampin' Up! DSP. The sentiments are from Paper Rose

Disney Visit

Thought I'd share a few more 'festive' pictures from our trip to WDW. It's hard to put into words the extent Disney goes to to decorate the parks and resorts. Each resort has a theme and they're all beautiful. It's like being a kid in a candy shop, your eyes dart everywhere to take it all in

We had a wonderful meal here...forget the name of the restaurant but it had Mickey, Goofy and Chip & Dale greeting all the diners. It also slowly rotated! Fascinating to watch servers, characters and visitors navigating this round about. It was family style dining that started with a salad and included mashed potatoes, turkey and gravy, green beans, squash and cornbread. And all you can eat! They brought the buffet to us.

As always spending time with Sonsearae and Chris is wonderful family time! Sonsearae has insider knowledge of visiting WDW because she's been so many times!

Are you Ready?

This time of year I feel the need to ask, are you ready? While I no longer go all out for the holidays I want to know if everyone else is ready.

Do you send cards? I do and I'm always wanting to make and send more. Sonsearae makes and bakes a lot during this season and man is she busy!

Do you make gifts to give? Bake cookies for exchanges? Are you ready?

Will you have a large family and friends gathering? Do you host? So, what's for dinner?

Earlier this month we had a short trip to Disney World. Chris and Sonsearae along with Jim helped me celebrate my 77th birthday. WDW was all decked out for Christmas and the weather was perfect. Some areas were crowded but we didn't mind slowing down as there is so much to see!

This time of year most folks are in the holiday mood. Making plans for Thanksgiving and counting down the days until Christmas. I've been making Christmas cards for a challenge at 'Card a Day in November-Christmas Edition' Each day is a different challenge and I'm having fun with the ideas. But I also make holiday cards year round. I haven't rounded them all up but pretty soon I'll need to address them and make ready to mail. There are 50 days til 25 December!

Paper Rose is an Australian company and most everything I've seen from them is very vibrant! Beautiful cardstock and images. The matching ephemera and die cuts make card making quick and easy

Mintay Papers are located in Poland but can be purchased at various sites in the US

This card was made using Merry & Joy. I love the old world look of Santa

We had a lovely lunch at Backwood Crossings yesterday. More often than not we enjoy dinner for lunch. The meals are usually less expensive and in some cases the portions are smaller. Not having to plan and cook is a treat!

Jim bought a cane and it arrived yesterday. He felt it was time and I must admit it should ease our minds if using it prevents a fall. Although he bought hearing aids from Costco he'll be fitted for aids from the VA. We'll see which it the best and he'll have a backup if needed

Sonsearae treats me to a pedicure every month or so and today is the day. What color should I choose? I'll be removing orange...

Passing of Time

It amazes me how fast our time here on earth moves! Sometimes the days seem to drag, other days seem to fly by swiftly.

I offer no excuse for not posting. I mostly have the time but lack subject matter

Our day to day life is made up of medical visits, grocery runs and since Jim has a 'subscription' for a car washes he's often off getting the car spiffed up. We see Sonsearae and Chris weekly and eat out often

Another Part Missing

It has been a roller coaster month since I last posted. We are settled into our new home and just as we thought we'd be able to sit back and enjoy our new life, Jim was thrown a curveball.

While putting the new front license plate on the car

he somehow twisted his back and was in pain, so much so that he contacted his doctor to be examined. With only Tylenol for pain relief he wasn't getting much rest, nor was I.

Then the ice cream!

He had some ice cream...it made him uncomfortable and he was upset for a day or so. Still suffering with this back /hip pain. A few days later he tried some more ice cream....this time he spent about 36 hours throwing up. This was a Friday night and I debated on taking him to the ER. So now he's added to his pain level, very uncomfortable and playing musical beds trying to get some rest and healing. Now he's beginning to worry me!

Sunday morning I told him he needed to try and eat so he could get some sustenance...smoothies were his preferred food. Another call on Monday to his Dr and made an appointment for Thursday regarding his hip/back pain. Of course this was set aside once we related the other issues. She made all the arrangements for him to go to the ER.

Once there he was seen quickly and had a slew of tests and they admitted him. Pancreatitis infection related to his gallbladder. Finally getting some answers does help along with the pain meds too. They kept him all weekend and removed his gallbladder a week ago Monday. He liked the bed he was in...said for a hospital bed it was the most comfortable he's ever had. Seems it adjusted so you didn't get bed sores. Pumping up in various spots. Liquid diet mostly which was awful! bad bad ingredients and I'm sure no nutrients. We kept bringing him smoothies and treats.

Sonsearae was a big help, she drove me to and from the hospital and bought some tasty foods for Jim to eat. We even had a lunch at a great place and enjoyed some wine, much needed on my part!

I think he came home last Wednesday. Still recovering but doing a lot better than a couple weeks ago. Mostly sleeps but I do see some changes happening. All the bed rest helped with the back/hip pain but he has to get an xray so they can find out what's up.

Now we are expecting a hurricane to inundate us with rain. Hopefully that's all this area will get!

It's a Done Deal

We are fully installed in our new home! The RV is empty of what we want to keep and it has been sold. Truck has been sold and we bought a car!

Our humongous bed arrived and Jim is loving it. My pretty green sofa is here and now we can get the living room set up.

Not sure if we'll put down a rug but that can be decided at a later date. Might just need one to help dampen the noise. Our end tables have charging stations plus storage

A new card formula from Club Scrap. Though pink isn't a favorite of mine this was the kit offered for the class. Now that I have the formula and know how to cut all the papers I can use it for other cards.

We also became Florida residents this week! Quick and easy process. Jim continues seeing the chiropractor twice a week. For the past few weeks all we seem to do is go here, there and everywhere. We still have things to do, like hang pictures and get a couple pieces of furniture, but it's all coming together

No Longer Waiting!

Jim finally had enough of waiting! Last week we took advantage of a sale and bought a bed for the guest room/office. We've been sleeping at our new home ever since. Still no king size bed, sofa or recliner....

I think the older I get the less patience I have for simple things. Like waiting for our bed and sofa to arrive and Jim's recliner. We check daily on some things, more than once hoping the outcome will be different. We stopped by Ashley and checked on the bed and sofa the news we got was early this week...No call yet and it's Tuesday. The chair from Costco has been in limbo, order was turned over to FedEx in New Jersey and I expect Tropical Storm Debbie has had an effect on the area. We need to call and get an update.

We continue to have two dwellings. One in Tallahassee (north) and one in Crawfordville (south). I guess you could say we are blessed with a summer and winter home! 😄 Meanwhile we commute. Jim has gone to the rig today because the exterior is being cleaned so we can proceed with selling it. Just a few basics remain to be brought home.

Now that I'm not so tired all the time I'm cooking meals at the apartment. I also ordered meal kits so I don't have to plan so much. The pantry is still a work in progress. We need a bakers rack so I can get some excess off the floor. I do need to organize my kitchen cabinets, rearranging pots and pans, cookie sheets and cutting boards...just takes time to figure out where is most convenient.

Jim has managed to hurt himself and is seeing a chiropractor for therapy. Twice a week for awhile...Hopefully his pain will diminish and go away soon. His posture has been getting worse over the years and the chiropractor is working on that also. It's frustrating for both of us. Part of his therapy includes the Cobra pose...I thought I'd give it a try, good for the back. Consistency is the key!

During this transition all my craft supplies are being organized after boxing them up haphazardly. Just easier to grab a kit and assemble.

From September 2023, this kit had 8 notecards and 8 treat bags. I still need to finish the treat bags.

A Lot Going On

Changes are happening around here!

First let me say that Hurricane Debbie was a threat, but no longer. We spent two nights with Sonsearae and Chris out of harms way. The storm did bring rain and wind but we were on the north west side of where it made landfall. All those south of here had torrential rains, high winds and flooding. Same in the east and northeast. The center of Florida was inundated because the storm was slow moving. Not sure how many lost power. The campground did but not for long.

We’re moving! After 20 years we’re getting out of our fifth wheel and into an apartment. We have been looking at retirement communities but they are very expensive and our budget just won’t allow it. We found a two bedroom apartment at Lakeside in Southwood just a stones throw from Sonsearae and Chris. At present we are commuting most days because our bed hasn’t arrived. Most of our belongings are there. The rig and truck are for sale but for now we sleep in the trailer.

On August 2nd Jim and I celebrated our 50th anniversary. Sometimes it doesn't seem like we've been together that long. It sure has been an exciting adventure! We met in Jacksonville Florida and the Navy moved us to Alabama, North Carolina, Scotland where he retired from military life. We chose to move to New Orleans where we bought a house and Jim had another career. When hurricane Katrina came through we repaired the house and sold it after buying an RV to start the next phase of our lives together. We traveled North South East and West. Finally settling in Spring Branch Texas. But a decision was made to move to Tallahassee to be closer to family.

It was quite simple once I hurt my brain trying to figure it out. I changed browsers, that didn't work. Looked in my computer files...nope, no recent pictures...I got my new phone around Mothers' day so that had to be it. Pictures didn't sync with it from Google! Whew...

It's hot here, as I type it's 93 and feels like 104 degrees. 1430 in the afternoon and the humidity is only 57%. It's like being in south Texas! Between 1100 and 1600 we aren't going outside, it's just to hot for us.

Yesterday we spent some time with Chris and Sonsearae. It's a regular Sunday date. They both spent time cooking and we had a fantastic meal of red beans and rice, BBQ shrimp, crab cakes, potato salad and slaw. I also get my chocolate fix when I'm over there...dark chocolate!

Using up DSP from my stash, these cards were made using a OSW from Jessica. She's my upline and when you join my team you'll have access to her OSW library!

Today is warming up nicely. We have clear blue skies, the temperature is 84...Life is Good.

We have decided to become Florida residents. This is a costly endeavor swapping over drivers licenses, registrations on the truck and rig and having the proper insurance for Florida. In the long run this is a good thing. Just tedious

Jim has become a Disabled Veteran. We all knew he was a bit off but now it's official. After two years of paperwork, medical tests (by independent doctors) and a lot of man hours the VA finally approved him for compensation. Though he's always had free medical with his Tri Care for life he did have copay for his meds. Now the VA will cover that expense.

I continue to make cards, almost daily. But I now have an I phone and haven't figured out how to share pictures 😇

Spring in Our Neck of the Woods

It has been so pleasant the past few days. Balmy breezes, reaching into the 80's during the day and cooling off at night. No Rain! Won't last long but I'll enjoy it while I can. Already the ground water is heating up and from the tap we get tepid water. We're giving the ice maker a solid workout!

As part of the Golf Course improvements they've built a Pro Shop, very small but they don't have a lot of room to work with. Paving of sidewalks has gone in, they've brought in a lot of fill and they spend hours each day moving dirt and smoothing it out in the parking lot area. Work is being done around the restaurant operating hours.

As an early Mother's day present I finally agreed to get on the Apple Watch bandwagon. I like the idea of keeping track of my health and being challenged to move a bit more. I haven't warn a watch in years and never cared for it. But I must say it's a fun toy for keeping me moving! I do not wear it to bed.

For some reason, as part of improvements I suppose, the RV park has been trimming all the trees! They brought in a bucket and started sawing of limbs quite high up. Not sure if we'll have much shade left when they're finished.

Well, It's Been a Month of Sundays

Since I've posted a blog! I guess I should try a little harder.

We're just enjoying life in north Florida.

Spring can be very interesting. Several storm systems have plagued us the past few days. The first one wreaked havoc in a wide swath (tornado)from Blountstown (where Christy and Rik live) all the way across to mid Tallahassee and eastward. Sonsearae and Chris were in the path of what appears to have been two tornadoes that converged and made a mess! Fortunately the trees down and damage at the Country Feed Store was minimal but the power was out and apparently Christy didn't have water for awhile. Chris said it was nice that the tornado warning he received worked and he a Louie sheltered in place. Their patio furniture was tossed around and their subdivision is a mess. Trees down and debris everywhere.

We are thankful our children are ok! Now as for us, we lucked out being on the southern side of the system. We were in storm, tornado and flood watches but it mainly rained a lot. Across from us a tree limb did fall on a car basically totaling it, but it saved the trailer from being hit.

Two more systems rolled through back to back and we are are soggy. Today we've had windows of sunshine and there's a balmy breeze blowing.
