As founding member, Marta always says: “Energy Moves Everyone.” The energy of Road to 40 continues to grow as word gets out and people get involved. Marjorie Bone is sharing one of her passions in support of another. Namely, she has organized an evening of Tango, the proceeds of which will go to Room to Read:Road to 40. She has arranged for a fun-filled evening with professional dancers, Marianne and Arjan on Wednesday, March 31.
The cost is fifteen euros per person and with that participants get a delightful evening that consists of the following:

- enjoying a glass of prosecco
- viewing a short video,
- watching a professional demonstration
- get a tempting taste of Argentinian tango in a 1 hour lesson

After that the dance floor is open for all to enjoy their new found tango steps!

Tempted to Tango? Check out the event on facebook:

BUILDING A LIBRARY IN INDIA WITH ROOM TO READ:ROADTO40.

February was Friendship Month! This February many people virtually gathered to give a friendship gift worth remembering. In lieu of a box of chocolates they made a donation towards the building of a library for children in need on behalf of sweethearts, family members and friends.

The goal of “Friendship Month” was to use the passion and momentum of friends this Valentines to raise enough funds to build a library in India. It’s alarming to note that 35% of the world’s illiterate population live in India. Most of those citizens are women who are the primary care givers. This propels the cycle of illiteracy, a huge problem. Participants in “Friendship Month” have become a part of the solution. All money donated from February 10 to 28th has been designated to building libraries/reading rooms in India.

Well done everybody! Room to Read/Road to 40 appreciates your contribution to this incredibly important cause.

On Saturday, October 10 the International School of Amsterdam (I.S.A.) opened it doors to “TASTE” - a wonderful dining and drinking experience hosted by SHARE (part of the I.S.A. Parent group). Participants were greeted with prosecco as they entered. From there they enjoyed delicious samples and were able to delve into conversation directly with the chefs about their creations and their restaurants. There was great range of restaurants – everything from fine French food at Michelin star restaurants to local daily fresh food paired with great wine at Amstelveen’s first wine bar. If the succulent samples weren’t enough – Their wine specialist, Varga’s Fijne Wijn put together a spectacular selection of wines for everyone to sample. The best part for us was that while all this was happening we had the opportunity to showcase Room to Read: Road to 40.

The ride took place on May 16. On that day, Ingrid and Jen, along with their cycling partners Carolynn, Jay, and Job, set out to tackle the hills in Luxembourg. They covered distances ranging from 85km to 165km! Ingrid rode her invincible blue bicycle, “Lance,” (without performance enhancers as usual), and Jen her trusty Trek. Was there ever a doubt that these two would achieve their goal? Many thanks to everyone who supported the group of cyclists who put their passion to good work. With your support and the hard work of these athletes, the goal was met and we are one giant step closer to building that school in Laos!

Are you an avid athlete? Would you like to put your athletic prowess to good use? Runners, swimmers, cyclers and more are always welcome to compete for a cause. Contact us to find out more.

On April 7, the theatre doors at the International School of Amsterdam (I.S.A.) were opened to Momma Mia enthusiasts both young and old! The Momma Mia Sing-A-Long was a “singing” success thanks to our wonderful volunteers and all of the families that joined us.

Costumes and mocktails kicked off the celebration. As everyone settled into their seats, the Frontline video of “Room to Read” was viewed and then the movie and sing-a-long began. Toes were tapping, some were dancing and all were singing as the movie played. As attendees left the theatre singing and smiling , the Road to 40 crew were celebrating as well, knowing that Room to Read: Road to 40 was promoted to the school community and 800 euros was raised to contribute towards I.S.A.’s commitment of building a school in Laos. A great night for all!
