An Evening at Elegante!

We have been in Ajijic, MX for less than a week....and I still have found 30 more restaurants that I want to try.....problem is, we don't have enough time. Enjoying our time and will be here for another eight days.

Tonight we stumbled upon Elegante while walking to the restaurant we intended to stop in. Problem...they were closed for the holiday and will be open on January 10 but more on that later.

Elegante is located on Constitucion 59 Centro. A odd thing about being in Mexico is they do not have signs that project out to the street. All signage is directly on the building so it is difficult to see unless you are across the street.

Tonight we started with their soups

Brian enjoyed Potato Leek Soup

I enjoyed their Aztec Soup but I
have called it Tortilla Soup

Our entrees were also very good.....Brian had their Lamb Arrachera and I had their Chicken Fettuccine. Both were very nicely priced for a "cloth napkin" restaurants which is unusual for Mexican Dining. Brian's dish was 210 peso and my dish was 150 peso. In UDS that comes to less than $18!

And of course, Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert

Elegante does close at 845PM so be sure to get there early.

What a great evening of dining!!!

We are enjoying a great trip to Ajijic, MX and everything here is so wonderful. As it looks right now, we will not have enough time to eat in all the restaurants I want to try. Out first night I wanted to try Ajijic Tango....an nicer steakhouse and our visit was very nice.

Our Server Martha, was very kind and helpful. I was trying to speak with her in Spanish and she answered all our questions in English. We were off to a great start.

Here is Mexico, they always bring an assortment of salsas and butter to enjoy the wonderful breads made here. Most restaurants do their own in house baking.

Our next Choices from Martha was our salads and they were very good.

Brian's salad was their Parmesan Prosciutto and I chose the Mixed Salad and also ordered and Empanada Elote....a small appetizer with corn filling.

On to our main meal selections and they were outstanding. Brian chose the filet mignon, mashed potatoes. For my choice, the pork loin with mushrooms, sweet potato mash and assorted mixed vegetables.

We looked over their extensive dessert menu and both of us wanted ice cream. They offered the ice cream with fruit but we decided on just the ice cream.

Ajijic Tango was a great choice for the evening meal.....and maybe we can

get to return soon!!

Another Great Evening!

We need to get to Don Edwardo's more often....their food is very good. Most of the time, we end up in Loudon County at one of the many Mexican choices they provide. Last night, I had to remark how the portion sizes at Don Edwardo's were so much larger than we were accustomed to in Loudon County. The prices were the same...actually a little less for our total bill. The complimentary tortilla chips basket and salsa bowl were always full. And the Top Shelf Margarita Pitcher was outstanding also.

The guacamole featured large chunks of avocado...and spiced just right.

Beef, Chicken and Shrimp HOT & Spicy Burrito was great.

Great Diner Burger!!

Handee Burger in Kingston probably has been around longer than the courthouse! And they know how to prepare great diner food. We enjoyed a great burger with fries, and their famous Hot Roast Beef Sandwich with some of the best mashed taters. Cole Slaw was included in the special.

Handee is open Monday - Friday 7am to 4pm. Breakfast served until 11am and lunch after.

They feature lunch specials including Four Handee Burgers, Chicken Sandwich, Large Cheeseburger, Philly Steak and Ham & Cheese Hogie. All include fries and a 20 oz. drink. Prices range from $6.39 to $8.25.

Busy Gals at the Grill!

As true in the hospitality business, you can please 200 customers and they will tell no one. Make one person angry and they will tell everyone and anyone about it. Roane County diners prove this every day. It is kind of sad that we have had restaurants come and go so quickly here.

San Juan A tropical paradise

Our Winter Getaway took us to San Juan for the week. I had never visited San Juan longer than a few hours by cruise so this trip was really exciting. We stayed at The Renissance LaConcha in the Condado which is so convenient to restaurants, shopping and just plain fun.

Upon arrival to the hotel, our flight arrived before check in time. The staff directed us to the Lobby Bar where we enjoyed lunch while waiting for our pocket pager to let us know our room was ready.

We enjoyed a trio of burger sliders and shrimp salad....very enjoyable. While chatting with our bartender, he suggested we enjoy Cocina Abierta close to the hotel. The handy restaurant reservation app Opentable booked our table at no charge. We arrived 15 minutes early but Nicole immediately seated us and became our perfect dining advisor and server. She suggested we begin with their famous Croquettes with Tomato Jam. Wonderful!

Rabbit Stew, and Duck Mofongo. Unusual combinations of flavors

and textures. Loved it!

Hot Biscuits with Preserves and Butter

This was not our first visit to Fleming's for Easter Brunch and it will not be the last. Everything was wonderful and our servers were very prompt with every request. We began with cocktails, of course and hot biscuits from the oven. Proceeding on to our Starter Course we chose the Leek Soup and the Seasonal Fruits. The soup was creamy and delicious and the fruits were fresh and plentiful.

My server surprised me with the Eggs Benedict with Filet Mignon. A nice potato cake topped with the filet and poached eggs. They offered a Filet Mignon served with table-side mini potatoes and broccolini with tomatoes. We both remarked how fork tender the mignons were...no knife needed. Both of the side dished were perfect.

Casa Fiesta acquired the space of a dismal Chinese restaurant

and BOY, did they make a great transformation. The Interior is beautiful...wonderful colors.

I have been enjoying Mexican food for decades.....including many trips to Mexico. Today, I enjoyed something that I have never had in a Mexican restaurant. Everyone serves chips and salsa but today I was treated to complimentary frijoles con queso. Their very good salsa was just perfect....nice chunky and good heat but not overpowering. The full bar was enticing, but being lunch, I had to decline. My diet soda was served quickly in a very large glass for $1.79 including refills. My waiter kept everything full!

Since this was a lunch visit, I chose the Lunch Specials on the back of the menu. The regular menu looked very good and I know we will be back for a supper meal. I chose the Fajita Salad with Steak @ $6.99. It also was available with chicken but I am glad I chose the steak. Perfect temperature served in a flaky almost pastry like tortilla bowl. Wow...it was good. I would highly recommend Casa Fiesta to anyone. It was a little light on the lettuce...but that was OK.

Casa Fiesta's Guacamole served atop was wonderful...I will be sure to order that as an appetizer with a supper meal and a margarita!

I have always wanted to eat at

BOATHOUSE ROTISSERIE AND RAW BAR!

We have driven by Boathouse for so many years and never had an opportunity to eat here. While returning from Atlanta, I decided it would be the day. I made reservations at 3PM but we arrived at 1:30 and our hostess quickly made a change and we were seated immediately. It was a Sunday afternoon and the "after church" crowd was heavy.

Boathouse offers inside and the more popular waterfront deck, We chose inside since it was a bit chilly. They do have heaters outside for those chilly nights. The river view is exceptional and you can see it from the inside seating.

We began with their Nacho Cheese dip and guacamole. Nice big chunks of avocado and a good bite with the jalapenos and spices. Very enjoyable.

Boathouse Menu is very diverse....Raw Bar features including PEI Mussels, Peel and Eat Shrimp, and Oysters on the half shell. We chose a different dining route. I chose the California Salad ($12) with additional shrimp (3 @ $9) instead of the salmon ($7) that was offered. The wood grilled shrimp was good but I thought 3 bucks for each shrimp was a little much. My salad turned into $21 which was good...but a little high. Also we enjoyed the Wood Grilled Salmon with Olive Fries. Had to ask what Olive Fries were and as suspected fried in olive oil. They were wonderful. No desserts on this trip but maybe next time.

The Polaris Reflecting in a Skyscraper

The Polaris sits atop the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, one of two revolving restaurants in the city. Opened in 1967 as the Regency Hyatt House, John C. Portman, Jr.'s revolutionary 22-story atrium design for the hotel has influenced hotel design enormously in the years since. The hotel instantly became one of the most recognized buildings in Atlanta.

The building consists of the main "Atrium Tower" and two extensions, completed in 1971 and 1982, containing a total of 1,260 rooms. On top of the Hyatt Regency is a revolving restaurant called Polaris, located just beneath the blue dome-shaped structure which gives the hotel its distinctive profile. This was John Portman's first designed revolving restaurant of many. When the hotel first opened, the restaurant gave diners an ever-changing panoramic view of the entire city; however, as taller buildings were erected on all sides of the hotel, the restaurant's view became increasingly constricted. The Polaris closed in August 2004 and remained empty until renovation plans were approved in 2013. Polaris reopened in June of 2014.

I highly recommend getting reservations...and Open Table

helped us. Since we were staying on the Club Level of the Hyatt Regency, we didn't need to worry about traffic and parking!

Our elevator swept us up to the 23rd floor and we entered the restaurant. Very contemporary...very stylish. The Maitre D immediately seated us and we began enjoying Tito's Martinis and Benton Bacon Popcorn. I have never had that before and it was astounding....we loved every last kernel. Our choice of soup was Leek and Crab...very tasty. On to our entrées we chose the Sea Bass and the Steak Oscar. The Sea Bass was moist and flavorful. The Steak Oscar was perfect atop a bed of mashed potatoes. The Crab and Asparagus accompaniment was more crab than I have had in a long time. Everything at the restaurant is served in with sleek contemporary dinnerware. Unusual but completely enjoyable.

The Southern Steak & Oyster

Get ready for a GREAT Meal and a lively bar/restaurant scene

My first trip to The Southern by the recommendations of other bloggers. Glad we made it since the experience was worth all the noise and the vibrant scene.

The Southern provided complimentary valet parking but I am so glad we chose to arrive and depart by cab. Traffic and parking can be overwhelming for people not familiar with the downtown Nashville scene. Everything is under construction and major streets could be closed due to special events, etc. Our cab driver was an expert getting around all the hubbub including detours through parking lots we would never have known about.

We made our reservations with Opentable and I would highly recommend reservations ANY TIME of the day since they offer breakfast to and including dinner service. We were immediately seated and our server, Finn approached our table. Clever, entertaining and fully knowledgeable of every item then offered. He offered suggestions including the full choice of fresh oysters. We decided on the Fried Oyster Appetizer.

After a few cocktails and selecting our wine, we ordered our entrées which were the Braised Beef served on a bed of Cheddar Jalapeno Grits and Prime Sirloin Steak with French Fries. Both were very flavorful but my fries were a little bit on the cool side. Of course, this was my first time here and this might be exactly the way they serve them....I would have liked them a little warmer. A nice aioli dipping sauce was included but I asked for a horseradish sauce. They brought me a ramekin of horseradish and a ramekin of mayo so I could mix to my taste. Finn was very accommodating

Little Bangkok....The BEST!

Ten years flies by so quickly....and Little Bangkok in Farragut is celebrating their 10TH Anniversary. We have been enjoying this restaurant since their inception. The consistency of the food and service has never wavered....and that is what has contributed to their success. Our servers have always been attentive and quick to help with the menu. Last evening was no exception with Josh helping with our evening.

Hot/Sour Soup
I can't begin to describe the wonderful flavor and texture
of this perfect soup. It always is a pleaser with the crisp and fresh
fried wontons. Moderately hot...with the sour filling the background.

Orange Beef

My all time favorite entrée has to be the Orange Beef. The beef strips are crispy and the sauce that add is out of this world great! I have ordered the Orange Chicken also but the Beef is my favorite for $11.99.

Very Good Buffet and Sushi Bar

Never have been a fan of the buffet concept of dining. I really like to have my server handle everything and that keeps me from jumping up and down for every course. That being said, I did have to try the China King Buffet in Lenoir City, TN today. All you can eat....$7.25 per adult and don't forget to ask for your senior discount that they offer. I didn't realize they offered it until after I had paid. The gentleman behind me asked for his. Quizzed the cashier and she told me I didn't look old enough...but I assured her that I was. I will ask next time and there will be a next time soon.

Off for my first trip....Hot/Sour Soup

Their version of Hot Sour left me disappointed. The overall richness and flavor just was lacking....it didn't have the full flavor that most have.

The Salad Bar

Overall....the salad bar was very good...many fresh choices including Peel 'n Eat Shrimp and fresh oysters. Being a non "R" month, I passed on the oysters.

Loved the Crab Salad that was on the bar but the shrimp was too small to peel.

They were just a mess and I gave up on trying...just too small to enjoy.

The Main Course Choices.....

I know they are trying to appeal to all age groups including the kids. Mac N Cheese and hot dogs were available...along with what they called Butter Potatoes. Keep the kids happy after all.

My first go 'round included the best Beef/Pepper Stir Fry I have had in a long time. Enjoyed the fried rice, and the General Tso's Chicken.....really good. Egg Roll...I would pass on.

S/S Chicken was very good along with the Shrimp Cake.

My second plate....OK...it is an all you can eat Buffet!! included green beans,

BBQ Skewer, very good, Black Pepper Chicken, out of this world good and

the Coconut Chicken was even better.

There were many other items on the buffet that I didn't try...but that doesn't mean I will not be back to give them a try also. And I must add.....the Sushi and Hibachi Grill was also included in the buffet!

In addition to all that is offered, they featured a dessert bar and self serve ice cream, (you dip it yourself, not soft serve). What a great deal and I can see why the place was packed!

Cinco Amigos--Lenoir City

Our favorite cuisine appears to be Mexican/Spanish/Cuban in influence...and it was time to search out a new place to dine. I have heard of Cinco de Mayo II for quite a while and decided this was the night to enjoy a new vista and a new menu.

We drove to what we believed would be Cinco de Mayo II but found out the name was changed. OK...what is going on?? We arrived at the restaurant and found a place to park. In all actuality, this is the BACK of the restaurant and you need to enter the restaurant in the rear. Kind of confusing..but we worked this little detail out.

After getting our bearings...it was soon to discover we needed to park in the back of this restaurant that is connected to a motel, clustered in with Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express and another breakfast diner operation. All worked out well and we found the entrance.

Upon entering, the comfortable lounge was in front of us.

Immediately, we were greeted by a friendly staff of hostesses and servers who escorted us to a comfortable booth. Tortilla chips and a great salsa was brought to our table. Looked like a pitcher of Top Shelf Margaritas was in order. Our server immediately returned with a great presentation and two salt rimmed glasses.

While enjoying our drinks and chips...it was on to the menu. My first search on any Mexican menu is Carnitas and friends wanted to try their Enchilada Suizas. These are two entrees that can make or break a Mexican restaurant, in my opinion.

Our entrees were delivered very promptly with the mandatory "HOT PLATE " from the server. I guess I would be surprised if they didn't say that!! The Enchilada plate was mildly flavorful...could have used a bit more seasonings. My Carnitas were crispy on the edges and juicy throughout. Average rice and good beans accompanied the platter w/ pico de gallo and salad. All in all, I felt the dishes were a little on the tame side..almost like they intentionally "Americanized" the flavors. Across the room mas cervezas were in route to the table. Mucho grande!

Uno Cerveza Grande... Ole!

Our pitcher of Top Shelf was very good...a little on the pricey side..(about 2200 pesos)....22 bucks in US dollars, but they were good. Our total bill was very reasonable and this will be a place we both can return to without reservations!!

Now...to get to the meat of the confusion concerning the name of this restaurant. It has been Cinco de Mayo II for seven years. Somehow, a Nashville restaurant with the same name decided that the Lenoir City location was infringing on their right of use of this name. We asked the owner upon leaving what was going on. He informed us that due to mutual agreement, this location would change their name to Cinco Amigos, which happened about two months ago. Everything appears to remain the same....good food and a place to enjoy on your next visit in Lenoir City...Exit 81 right off I-75.

June, 2015 Update....Loudon, TN location will be opening in a few months per Dora and her husband.

El Tepame---Busy Place in Clinton, TN!

Friends called attention to El Tepame in Clinton some time ago and I did visit a few years back. Enjoyed the food and had to return today for another busy lunch visit. The place is so busy with the locals....and I enjoyed the food once again.

Started with the Chips and Salsa....very enjoyable and not too spicy hot.

El Tepame has a great lunch menu very reasonably prices. Of course, the

menu is not real inventive but offer all the dishes you would expect in any

Mexican Restaurant. Almost what you would call a Mexican Diner!!

Happy Hour!!

After touring The Ximenez-Fatio House, it was time for a little R&R at the A1A Aleworks. Located next to the beach on A1A, it was a great spot to enjoy the view and the drinks. We stopped in long after the lunch crowd but it was still hopping with fun customers.

Our first decision was difficult since they have quite a few craft beers to choose from. My bartender suggested the Abaddon Ale...good choice but I really am a "Bud" man.

After a few...we wanted something to munch on...which was a nice Wedge Salad, very fresh and crisp. Also, they feature their house made chips with Bleu Cheese and they were so good.

A great choice and we need to stop in again and enjoy many more of their offerings.

Midtown Cafe--Nashville, TN

WHAT A TREAT!!

Lunch at Midtown Cafe was so good. The interior color palette was soothing, modern and relaxing. Opentable provided us with spot on reservations....and valet parking is mandatory since this is a very busy section of town and lots of construction going on. As a matter of fact, the site next door provided a constant vibration throughout lunch. Not much that Midway Cafe could do about it...but it was unnerving.

We began with our server providing biscuits...which turned out to not be one of their fortés. They were small and a little on the dry side. But things improved dramatically as we proceeded.

The first items to arrive at our table was their Lemon Artichoke Soup..rich and creamy in a creamy chicken stock.

We also enjoyed the Spinach Salad and a house special of the day was a grilled chicken sandwich with ham and cheese on top with fries at $12.99.

My server surprised me with their most popular dish served at Midtown Cafe. Shrimp and Grits was spicy...very good and I would order the dish again.

We were offered a extensive dessert menu but declined

since our lunch portions were very large. Maybe next time.

J J Ruby's was recommended by my family on our recent visit.

What made it even better was my dear cousins picked up the tab!!

Nothing tastes better than free food....and this place delivered.

Our servers were prompt and attentive to our large party of 14. While they didn't have a single table to accommodate us, we had a six top and an eight top. Two servers handled our impromptu visit without a reservation. It was four in the afternoon, so they were able to help...while dining later or on a weekend might have been a problem.

My tablemates enjoyed their fried fish offerings. My sister enjoyed her cheeseburger...since that seems to be her meal of choice. My server surprised me with their prime rib topped with onions and mushrooms. The prime rib was reheated on a grill and had a slight smoky grilled flavor that was not at all objectionable...but it was not freshly sliced. My smallish baked potato was very good in addition to the cole slaw that was served.

We couldn't leave the table without desserts!! We all chose

the pecan pie and toasted coconut cream pie. The pastry crusts

were exceptional....home made for sure.

ON the road again...traveling to Michigan to visit. Sad occasion with

the passing of my last Uncle.

Had to stop overnight in Piqua since I can't drive

all the way any more. Just have to rest after a while

when driving alone.

Bob Evans was located just off I-75 exit 82 where my hotel was. Getting up

early was not part of my plan..but I had to get back on the road again.

Ordered the Eggs over easy....turkey sausage and country potatoes. The

potatoes were a little dry...but ketchup helps. Nice English Muffin and

coffee was good. Surprised to see they even offered sugar free Smuckers jam.

I have lived in Knoxville for three decades and the S & S has been in operation...serving good old fashioned cafeteria food. Nothing fancy....nothing gourmet but great southern food! Everyone

knows where they are located since they stay in the same building for all these years.

Stopped by on a Friday for lunch and they were featuring

great fried fish and the squash casserole is just

like grandma used to make!

A new visit with even more flavors....

The once little town of Knoxville has come into its own with the evolution of Bistro By The Tracks in their new location! Let's be honest...the old location was twenty years of shop worn interior! This place is gorgeous from The Main Entrance to the Private Dining Room. It just is comfortable, well decorated and inviting to their guests.

We stopped in for Dinner and was soon to find out they are now open for Lunch, Monday-Friday, 11:30 to 2:30. The Lunch selection includes soups, featuring their Baked Onion Soup, Calamari with sweet/sour tomato sauce, grilled shrimp salad and the over served Strawberry Salad. That salad seems to be in every restaurant and I am getting a little tired of seeing it. Time to come up with a few new choices.

A very comfortable Lounge

The extensive wine list is all inclusive. Too many choices and our server was spot on with recommendations. We began with the Curried Sea Scallops for our split appetizer. Very well balanced coconut red curry sauce with a spinach accompaniment. Cocktails were as expected and we enjoyed them while anticipating the great dinner to arrive. Some of the features on the menu included Alaskan Halibut with truffle potato cake, shitakes, corn, grapes and mushroom jus at 30.00, Grilled Pork Chop with rice salad and grilled pineapple at 24.00. I immediately targeted the Pan Seared Duck with vegetable arancini, with pear cherry chutney at 24.00.

The entire evening was one of class and memorable of an Atlanta upscale event. I would highly recommend a return experience. Dress is smart casual...leave your jeans at home...you will look out of place at this restaurant.

March 4, 2011 Update: Got to enjoy lunch today with a great friend. We both were very hungry and ready for a relaxing time to eat and enjoy catching up on conversation.

Miss B ordered the Bistro Burger with Sweetwater Valley Cheddar Cheese and I ordered the Slaw Reuben. Both were wonderful!!

May 8, 2015 Update

Once again....Bistro by the Tracks hit it out of the park! Celebrating a birthday and our server, Jason was great to help. I asked him to surprise me and enjoyed wonderful food and drink. My first surprise selection was the Warm Mushroom Salad. It was so good....something I might have overlooked if I were ordering myself. Our entreés included the Halibut and my surprise was the Roast Duck. Oh, wow....it was so good. Moist and tender...and the gouda polenta, ( we call them grits down here) was a perfect compliment to the dish. Rounded out the evening with the Chocolate and Peanut Butter Tart and the Strawberries & Cream. Great evening and we must return soon.

Outstanding Dining Ahead

I have been salivating about dining at Collage for more than six months. OpenTable secured my reservations and our request was met.

We arrived a few minutes early expecting to enjoy a great martini...but to our disappointment, they do NOT serve liquor....only wine and beer. My dining companions do not drink wine or beer so they were left with water, tea or coffee.

Our server began with my glass of wine and brought their rolls and roasted garlic to the table. While enjoying, we browsed the menu. My friend chose the Escargot for their appetizer....Tender Snails Sautéed With Mushrooms And A Brandy Cream Sauce Served In A Puff Pastry Shell.

On to the entrées! Fresh Black Grouper--Lightly Coated In A Parmesan, Pecan & Brown Sugar Crust Then Baked. Finished With A Beurre Blanc, Diver Caught Sea Scallops-- Pan Seared Scallops Over Butternut Squash Puree And Brussel Sprout Chiffonade Finished With House Cured Bacon Lardons, Bartlett Pear And Pomegranate Gastrique and Homemade Lobster Ravioli-- Lobster Stuffed Ravioli With Sautéed Shrimp In A Pesto Cream Sauce & Topped With A 5 Oz. Lobster Tail.

Each of our entrées were perfectly prepared...outstanding flavors.

The One and Only Columbia!

I shouldn't call it the "one and only" since they have other locations throughout Florida! We have

enjoyed the Tampa location and really do miss the St. Petersburg location since the pier

has been torn down. Hope they can rebuild soon.

This was my first time to enjoy the St. Augustine location.

My first trip to The Colombia in St. Augustine was wonderful. The building has been created to echo a Spanish Hacienda.....so much dark woodwork and brick. Very beautiful interior. The First Floor is expansive but we chose to sit in the Bar Area on the second level.

Our Server, Jonah was quick to greet and get our cocktail orders. Soon, the famous Cuban Bread was delivered to our table. Quite a treat to say the least.

We enjoyed wonderful food including Pompano "Lido Key", Redfish with Crab and Grilled Fresh Florida Grouper with their wonderful Rice and Green Peas.

Our entire evening was so enjoyable and the price

just couldn't be beat. I find their entrées to be

reasonably priced...great value and full of flavor.

What an Evening of Wonderful Dining!

Made our reservations via Opentable many months ago for a pre cruise dinner in New Orleans. We were sailing out of the Port of New Orleans on the Carnival Elation for a five day trip to Mexico.

As we arrived early, our greeters immediately seated us at a perfect table.

GW Fin presented us with their signature biscuit..no dinner rolls here. They were light, fluffy and very good. Something you wouldn't expect in a fine dining restaurant.

Ryan, our server began our enjoyment with the perfect martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives...boy...they were good.

Our next presentation were the salad course....a great Caesar Salad and the Triple Iceberg Salad. It was divided into three segments each topped with Shrimp/Basil, Tomato/Thousand Island and Bacon/Bleu Cheese. So good!

On to our appetizer course....Grilled Oysters on the Half Shell and Yellowfin Crudo. The oysters were the best I have ever enjoyed. The Yellowfin Crudo featured beautiful Yellowfin....and accompanied with Tempura fried Avocado....just a very interesting presentation. Loved it.

Ryan outdid himself with the suggestions....I have never had a dish presented that didn't need table seasonings...my dish was perfect.
