How do placements and keywords work together in an ad group?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When you choose both keywords and placements for an AdWords ad group, they team up to determine where your ads will run on the Display Network and how much you'll pay for them. (The combination won't affect where your ads run on the Search Network. This is based only on keywords.)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
How do they work together? Here are two key points to remember.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Step 1: Keywords always do their work first. When an ad group has keywords, the AdWords system automatically finds pages in the Google Display Network to find content that matches those keywords. AdWords takes contextual matching down to the page level, therefore if a placement has multiple pages, only pages that match your keywords can show your ads.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Step 2: You choose how they work together. Where your ads run and how much you pay for them depends on a choice you make in your network distribution campaign settings.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
    *&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
      If you select Relevant pages across the entire network:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
      Keywords alone determine where your ads are eligible to show. You can add managed placements to an ad group, but their only purpose will be to raise or lower your bid when keyword matching puts your ad on one of those placements. Adjusting bids helps you win more or fewer ad auctions (and therefore clicks and impressions) on those managed placements. So, if you find a site that performs well, you can increase your bid for that site. On the other hand, if you have a site that is performing poorly, but you don't want to completely exclude it, you can adjust your bid to reach your goals.&lt;br /&gt;
    *&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
      If you select Relevant pages only on the placements I manage:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
      Keywords and placements determine where your ads are eligible to show. When you choose both keywords and placements, you can restrict your ads to the specific sites where you want them to appear -- and show them only when the content of a page is relevant to your keywords. Using keywords to refine the targeting for your ads on placements is a good option when you're targeting sites that have a wide variety of content (such as news sites and social networks). That way, your ads will be more likely to appear in relevant locations on those sites. Adding keywords also limits the potential number of clicks and impressions, so you should monitor your ad's performance to make sure you're seeing the results you want.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
      Let's look at that second situation more closely. Suppose your campaign is set for "Relevant pages only on the placements I manage," and you create an ad group with managed placements A, B, and C, and the keyword "red roses." In that case, your ad will appear on placements A, B, and C only if their content is related to "red roses."&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
      If matches for "red roses" appear only on A and B, then your ads can appear only on A and B. Your ad won't appear on placement C, even though you've selected it. Because placement C doesn't have any content about red roses, it's not a contextual match for your keyword.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
      Suppose placement A is a website about flowers, with 100 different pages: five about red roses, and 95 about other flower varieties. Because contextual targeting happens down to the page level, AdWords may identify only those five pages about red roses as a good match for your keyword. Your ad won't appear on the other 95 pages of A, even though you've targeted the entire website, if those pages aren't a good match for your keywords.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Of course you can also create an ad group or campaign with only keywords or only placements. If you want contextual targeting to be the only deciding factor, then you can choose a keyword-only ad group.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you want your ads to show anywhere on a given placement, with no regard to contextual matching, then create an ad group with placements only, and set your campaign settings to "Relevant pages only on the placements I manage." What's the difference between placement targeting and contextual targeting?&lt;br /&gt;

Contextual targeting&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Contextual targeting simply means that your keywords are used to place your ads next to content that matches your ads.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
For instance, suppose you have created an ad group to advertise digital cameras, and it includes keywords you have chosen like digital cameras and camera cases. Contextual targeting will be used to identify and place your ad on Google Display Network sites with the same themes. That might mean web pages about camera equipment or discussion groups of camera hobbyists, or it could be an email or a newsletter about digital photography.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Contextual targeting is always used when an ad group has keywords and the Display Network is turned 'on' in the campaign settings page. It can work with ad groups that have only keywords, and also with ad groups that have both keywords and placements.&lt;br /&gt;

Placement targeting&lt;br /&gt;

Placement targeting lets you choose individual spots in the Display Network where you'd like to see your ads displayed. We'll only look at your managed placements when searching for relevant places to display your ads. Unlike contextual targeting, keywords aren't required.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A placement might be an entire website, or a subset of a site. For instance, if you're selling football boots and you want your ad to appear on a particular football website, or only on the sports pages of a newspaper, placement targeting can help you handpick those sites.&lt;br /&gt;

Here are a few things to know about placement targeting:&lt;br /&gt;

    * A site must be part of the Google Network in order to be available for placement targeting.&lt;br /&gt;

There are three main ways to add managed &lt;a href="http://allaboutweblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/whats-placement.html"&gt;placements to an ad group&lt;/a&gt;:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Manually adding managed placements&lt;br /&gt;
2. Copying automatic placements over to become managed placements&lt;br /&gt;
3. Using the placement tool. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a href="http://allaboutweblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-to-display-network-placements.html"&gt;Use Options 2 and 3 if you want your ad to show on placements,&lt;/a&gt; but don't know which ones to select.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The first time you &lt;a href="http://allaboutweblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/whats-placement.html"&gt;add a managed placement to an ad group,&lt;/a&gt; we'll prompt you to set a default bid in case you want to set it higher or lower than the automatic placements default bid. If you think you'll be using managed placements mostly to manage sites on which you want to be highly competitive, consider raising the managed placement default bid. This will give you a stronger chance at winning the ranking auction. Also remember that if you have keywords in your ad group, we'll use them to contextually target your ad to your managed placements. Your ad will only run on pages within the sites you select where your keywords are relevant.&lt;br /&gt;
Option 1: Manually add managed placements&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Go to the Networks tab at the ad group level.&lt;br /&gt;
2. Find the Display Network table, and click show details next to "Managed placements."&lt;br /&gt;
3. When the managed placement table opens, click + Add placements.&lt;br /&gt;
4. Type in the URL of the placement on which you'd like the ads in this ad group to show.&lt;br /&gt;
5. Click Save to add the placements to your ad group.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Option 2: Copy from automatic placements&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Go to the Networks tab at the ad group level.&lt;br /&gt;
2. Find the Display Network table, and click show details next to "Automatic placements."&lt;br /&gt;
3. When the automatic table opens (you may have to scroll down the page), you'll see a list of domains (if any) on which your ads have run.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Note: If your ad group has never run on automatic placements, this table will be empty, so you won't be able to add managed placements via this method.&lt;br /&gt;
4. Here, you can select the checkboxes next to the automatic placements you'd like to copy to your managed placements table.&lt;br /&gt;
5. After selecting one or more placements, click Manage placement and bid.&lt;br /&gt;
6. Select a new bid for this managed placement, or set the same bid.&lt;br /&gt;
7. Click Save to add the placements to your ad group. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Option 3: Use the placement tool&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Go to the Networks tab at the ad group level.&lt;br /&gt;
2. Find the "Display Network" table, and click Show details next to "Managed placements."&lt;br /&gt;
3. When the managed placement table opens, click + Add placements.&lt;br /&gt;
4. Click Try the placement tool next to the text box.&lt;br /&gt;
5. Once the placement tool launches, you can find and add managed placements by searching for a phrase or website URL for placement ideas.&lt;br /&gt;
6. Click Add next to the placements you'd like to add to your ad group.&lt;br /&gt;
7. Click Save and Continue to add these placements to the box on the next page.&lt;br /&gt;
8. Click Save to add the placements to your ad group.&lt;br /&gt;

Editing placements within an ad group&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You can make a variety of edits to your placements at any time. You can change the placements themselves (change the websites you're targeting), change your bids, pause or enable existing placements, or select individual destination URLs for each of your placements.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Go to the Networks tab at the ad group level.&lt;br /&gt;
2. Find the Display Network table, and click show details next to "Managed placements."&lt;br /&gt;
3. When the managed placements table opens, you'll see a list of domains which you've added to your ad group.&lt;br /&gt;
4. Here you can make a variety of edits to your placements:&lt;br /&gt;
* Pause or enable a placement: You can pause or enable a placement by clicking just to the left of the placement domain. If the placement is currently paused, it will display a "pause" sign (two parallel lines). If it's currently enabled, it will display a small green circle. Clicking any of these icons will allow you to change the status of the placement.&lt;br /&gt;
* Edit actual placement: To change a placement, simply click the placement under and enter your new placement. Be sure to click Save after editing.&lt;br /&gt;
* Edit placement level bids: To edit your bids for an individual placement, simply click the bid under the "Max CPC" column and enter your new bid. Be sure to click Save after editing.&lt;br /&gt;
* Edit placement destination URL: To edit your placement destination URL, select the checkbox next to the placement, and click the Edit button. This will make all fields editable, and allow you to enter a placement level destination URL. Be sure to click Save.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Deleting placements within an ad group&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You can easily delete placements from your ad group at any time. Deleting a placement means that we'll no longer try to show your ads specifically on that placement. If you're still utilizing automatic targeting, your ads may still show on that placement through contextual targeting. If you'd like to stop showing on a site altogether, you may want to use our Site Exclusion Tool.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Follow these instructions to delete placements from your &lt;a href="http://allaboutweblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/whats-placement.html"&gt;ad group:&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. Go to the Networks tab at the ad group level.&lt;br /&gt;
2. Find the Display Network table, and click show details next to "Managed placements."&lt;br /&gt;
3. When the managed placement table opens, you'll see a list of domains which you've added to your ad group.&lt;br /&gt;
4. Select the placement you'd like to delete by selecting the checkbox to the left of the placement name.&lt;br /&gt;
5. Click the Change Status button above the placement.&lt;br /&gt;
6. Select Delete.&lt;br /&gt;
7.
