10 Career Intentions for 2010

As I always do, I posts topic here on my blog about valuable tips that will make a positive impact in my life and to others. Here is a topic about boosting your confidence on finding job and setting a goal for this year 2010. It was written by Susan Whitcomb, a well known career advisor and the author of the best-selling "Magic Series" published by JIST, including Job Search Magic, Interview Magic, and Resume Magic, now in its 4th edition.

1. Be Intentional: That’s right. #1 on the list requires that you focus on being intentional. It all starts with awareness. What do you need to do to stay focused on your goals and not let the busyness and distractions of life take you off course? 2. Make Space for Career Management: Like exercise, it won’t happen unless you make space for it. Set aside time, at a minimum once a month, to evaluate where you are with your career plans and what adjustments you might need to make. 3. Find Out What Your Boss (or Boss To Be) Wants: It’s impossible to experience career success without intersecting your desires with what your employer needs. When is the last time you asked your boss “How can I help you be wildly successful?” 4. Share with Your Boss What You Want: Frame it in the context of company goals. For example, “Mr. Boss, I’m committed to helping XYZ Company continue on its course of success. Down the road, I see myself _____ [fill in the blank – for example, “contributing in a director role and coordinating new product launches that will allow us to be first-to-market in Web-based widget solutions.”] Then ask, “What would it take to make that happen?” 5. Leverage & Collaborate with Your Career Community: These days, it takes the cooperation and collaboration of teams to make real progress. Who are the key members of your career community—the people who can help you get where you want in your career? Who needs to be added to that community? How can you reach out to them, learn what they need, and deepen connections? 6. Know Your Value: Can you identify how you deliver a return-on-investment to your employer? If not, start thinking about how you can make them more money, save them money, solve important problems. This will allow you to become the “hunted” and not a “hunter” of new opportunities. 7. Know Your Values: Are you honoring your values in your current work? Do you know what your values are? Whether it be the ability to make a significant contribution, work with integrity, take risks, etc., knowing your values and living by them is the one thing you can always control during the day. 8. Don’t Give Away Your Power: If you’re in a difficult situation, don’t resign yourself to thinking, “I’m stuck. There are no options. This is the way it’s always going to be.” Instead, remember the saying “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.” There are always options you can take action on, even if it’s only reframing your perspective. 9.FAIL Forward: A wise soul once said that FAIL stands for “From All I Learn.” Make 2010 a year of learning, even in those places of unmet expectations and disappointments. Ask yourself, “What do I want to learn in this situation that will benefit my career long-term?” Likewise, identify what new skills, competencies, or credentials you want to add to your toolbelt in 2010. 10. Be an S.O.S. Worker: S.O.S. stands for Serve Others Selflessly. I’m not advocating being a doormat or a candidate for abuse. I am advocating that you “find the need and fill it,” without an agenda or expectation of a payback. Trust that it will come to you. Those who persevere, prosper.

It's been (Let me count, more than two weeks) even before that I haven't posted any entry on my blog except just for the holiday greetings (lol!). Well, isn't too obvious that I'm lacking inspiration to post or maybe I'm bored about all of this. I tell you, for the past few weeks I've been lazy and been a couch potato. I have to admit I lack inspiration to post anything, that's why as you can see on my previous entries, it's all just copy topic from the internet. So now, I decided to at least create one to three entries per week just to make sure that my blog still up on the radar of Google. Hope to start the year with positive and happy energy.. COME YEAH!!!

I woke-up this morning looking for some motivational words from anyone to help perk me up. Since no one would give me, I then look at this site that gives daily motivational quotes that really has some good motivational words. Not surprisingly the message was uplifting and it gives a good insight to anyone who would read it. The Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody

In early days (not so long ago, lol), one of the famous children TV show in my time was Sesame Street. It's a children Muppet show that has different character. From the famous kermit "the frog" to Cookie Monster and a lot more. I also remember that time, when I was still a little midget(lol), the counterpart of Sesame Street of US was "Batibot" for Philippines. Batibot was not so much of the muppet but more of story-telling and character building for children. I don't want to be bias but I always watch "Batibot" more than Sesame Street. For the reason that I'm not fond of Muppets. In this day an age, Hi5 is somehow the modern "Batibot" and Sesame Street.

Hence, I decided to share to you a video of Bohemian Rhapsody by the Muppets. I enjoy the video a lot. It brings out some childhood memories and i get to appreciate Muppets more after watching this video. So enjoy!

I started to like this song when I first heard it from the radio. I have this inclination that this could be a hit song and I'm not surprised, it does. The beat is somewhat very fitting to the lyrics. It's not so upbeat but also not so mellow. It's a balance mix of good beat and lyrics. So I just want to share the song that I like and I'm so proud with Alicia Keys. She's one of my favorite singers. No doubt about it.

I would like to dedicate this post of mine for the special day of Mama Mary also known as Immaculate Conception Feast Day, December 8. Just a brief story, I remember when I was still in High School (Catholic School), we usually recite the novena and angelus. It is the time of my life that I become more appreciative of the Catholic teachings and also become loyal (so to speak) with the Christian beliefs. Some religions may not believe in Mama Mary (I respect that) but one thing that I realized believing with Mama Mary makes a lot in my faith.

For some dating is easy as addition but for some it’s definitely something to work into. Success in dating depends most probably on the looks and attractiveness of the person. More often than not, good looking people always finds a way in getting a date and eventually grow into a relationship. But of course, there are some who are clueless on dating and needs to have a crash course on Dating 101. I think the reason that some men who have a hard time finding a date is because they are just scared that the person that they would like to date will reject them. Lacking in self-confidence and being so pessimistic is I think the primary reason for all this fails. It’s hard to imagine that after all the try still nothing grows into happy relationships. Well, imagine if this happens to you would you go for something unusual just to have a date? Will this be your last resort so to speak? Will you go for date with a DOLL?

It's been pretty much almost a year since my last job.. Talking about a "BIG BUM". Yes I know, it's really shameful being on my shoes right now. I somehow after I resigned from my previous job, I'm kinda lost some "fire" or driving force to work again or even find another job. Though I have to say that, I'm still looking for a job here and there but the only problem is I become more choosy..(Others advice: Recession day, don't be choosy). But I think I have to because I prioritize my health among any others. The reason why I always decline some of the job is because of the shift, I don't like working at night or graveyard shift. It's not my cup of tea. I'm a night person. So even there's a big chance that I will be hired at the end of the day after knowing that the shift will be graveyard I immediately decline it. But I guess since it's recession and job is limited I have no choice but to accept the available job there is. Here's the life cycle of a BUM. lol

When I was still in High school, English subject is one of my favorite. I had a huge respect on my English teacher, whom I must say is really good in teaching English and well-versed in grammar. I learned a lot because of how inspiring her teaching approach to us. She make sure that everyone on the class will listen to her while she was teaching. Though I have to admit that I still have more to improve but I'm surely good in English. I would like to make a special mention to Mrs. Yape as one of my favorite teacher in High school. Anyways, I want to share one article that I wrote for my English subject, it's about Family. I had these short paragraph many years. I kept one copy because, I think it's very inspiring so here it goes.

Family is the main foundation of the society. It is were our first lesson in life acknowledge. In here, we mold our personality, attitude, and upbringing. We learn to socializes with others and communicate with different people. We become more as a person with dignity and decorum. But why does family do separate, what's the reason? As a family member you must understand that you are not only thinking about yourself but also the member of your family. Selflessness is one virtue that you must indulge or even sacrifice because you are not just an individual but you are now a group, a small group called family. By the time you have your own family you will realize all the things that really matters most in life. You even ask yourself, why should I do this? After all these things, why is still family broke-up? The reason behind all of these is lack of knowledge and understanding. Why? because few family never recognize the meaning of a true and happy family. Some only engage in a family just to have a child or just the meaning of having a partner so that they can say to the world that they have family. Several people uses family as a run-cow, others they want to get out of their miserable life. It's so sad that this instances happens but the main point is who will be the last person affected to these conflict. They never grasp that after they broke-up in the end who will take the consequences that these people had done nonetheless the children who at some point don't understand the occurrence that is happening and see themselves asking and wondering, but why?

All I know is that all of us has questions that we want to find answers. We have so many nagging questions in our mind that we still haven't realized the answer. I read one article on the newspaper about some of the dilemmas that we have and the answers from these questions from the Book of Questions by Gregory Stock Ph.D.

Here's some of the questions and the answers from the book of Gregory Stock Ph.D. I only chose the questions that tells more about me and questions that I think will benefit me. (talking about self-serving, lol). Anyways, I know some of you will surely relate on this post and will eventually inspires you to become a better you.

I was eager to watch the Cotto vs Pacquiao fight on the internet. My frustration intensified when the platform that I'm going to use to watch the fight tru live streaming is not working and it was already 10AM and the fight will be on anytime. The platform that I'm using was pldt watchpad. I don't want to bash too much about my frustration on PLDT regarding their watchpad because this post should all be for Manny Pacquiao. Anyways, I'm so happy after all I was able to watch Manny Pacquaio fights online tru Sopcast. I was able to see it live with no commercial break. All I can say is manny Pacquaio was destined to be a Boxing Winner. Next post pls!

Manila Ocean Park

I recently had a fun "gimik" with family in Manila Ocean Park at Manila last Nov. 2. I had with me is my nephew alongside with my father's side cousins and aunties. I heard some not so good comments about the place and I'm not surprised that the place is really for children who will surely appreciate the place more than the adults. But for those who are "YAH" or young at heart, you may be delighted to see the fish and the scenery of Manila Ocean Park. Altogether I must say the place is good and the fishes are lovely you can't go wrong when you see the beautiful fishes.

I have to admit I had fun, because it's been a long time since we get to see each other not to mention we had the sumptuous meal in Aling Tonya's restaurant at Dampa Macapagal. The place where you buy your raw ingredients and you just have to wait at your table to serve the delicious meal that was cooked by them.

Well, It’s nice to have good times once in a while I just miss going out. To cap it all the fun it’s all free.. The website of Manila Ocean Park is here. Here’s some of the pictures I taken.

I bought this laptop last April of 2009 (under warranty) in Electroworld of SM San Lazaro. Just now I saw these flickering light on the bottom of my laptop screen which is so annoying and bothersome.

I had my laptop exactly 10 months now. Still pretty new and I must admit that it's not fully paid yet. It's really disappointing knowing that HP really has reputable name in terms of computers and other hardware stuffs. The fact that you put your confidence in the brand is something that HP management needs to take good care of because if they tend to overlook the quality of their product it will surely backfire in their sales and in the long run losses a lot of loyal customers. I don't want to think that Compaq is the sub-standard product of HP because it still an HP product..HP people you need to do something about this.

I even uploaded a video to see the proof of the flickering on my screen.

I thought I was the only one who were having the same problem with their laptop not until I search the internet and whoalah a lot of the Compaq Presario owner has the same exact problem as what I'm having here's the link: Compaq Presario CQ40 owners dilemma.

Learning new skills is one my hobby right now (is it right to say hobby?) or should I say my new found endeavor. It's not unusual on my part to do these stuff since I find learning new skills very productive. But honestly, though learning new skills is something not everyone could appreciate, it takes a lot of work and encouragement on yourself to be inspired to read all the time. Learning on your own I think is much harder rather than learning in a traditional way (like in a classroom set-up). I say that because, For one you are obliged to do your assignment on timely manner unlike having your own time to think whether you should do your assignment now or later. Secondly you have the sense of responsibility to be good at your grades and so forth.

Right now I was trying to finish these ebook that I downloaded about Acupressure. I'm not aspiring to be a reflexologist or the like but it can help me if ever I have some aching pain in my body by doing these acupressure on myself.

My Entry on Morning Rush Top 10

I’ve been an avid listener of RX93.1 particularly the Morning Rush with Chico and Delamar with their time slot at 6AM to 10AM, Monday to Friday on FM station. I started to listen with them a few years back and I must say that they have substantial, wholesome but naughty at times entertainment on radio. I may consider myself as a “silent rusher” cause I don’t participate often on their Top 10 topics for each day but not long until I participated on their Topic about "Almost of your life" last August 12, 2009 (Wednesday).

What does “Almost” means? Almost is something happen to your life that you nearly get it or experience it. For instance, In my case I decided to participate with the Topic Top 10 “Almost of your life", from my own experienced when I had an accident happened last 2 years, I was robbed while I was on the Jeepney, the robber was trying to snatch my bag but I force not to give to the snatcher so the snatcher get angry and pull-out a knife and stab me one on my right chest and 3 on my arms. I know I’m STUPID but things happened for a reason. These was my entry on the Morning Rush Top 10 “Almost of your life”.
