Celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday at University Circle United Methodist Church. June 16 marks the beginning of our summer season of worshiping in the Great Hall on the Lower Level at the new time of 10 AM. Every year people comment how enjoyable this change of routine is as the space is bright and intimate and the sounds of music and spoken words surround you.

Dr. Chalker’s sermon titles are always intriguing and this Sunday is no exception, “Watching from the Back Row.” Lydia Hall, our gifted chancel choir soprano graces your spiritual experience with a solo anthem and is joined by David Hughes in additional service music.

Celebrate the Youth of University Circle United Methodist Church. Join us this Sunday, June 9, at 11am as our middle and senior high youth lead us in a meaningful worship experience they have created under the direction of their leaders, Dawn and Fred McElrath and Rev. Sharon Seyfarth Garner. Three of our youth will be confirmed and will read their personal statements of faith – always a powerfully moving experience.

Through dance, music and the spoken word, our young people will share a significant time of spiritual understanding with us. Please plan to support them in their efforts by your attendance this Sunday.

Beginning June 16, Father’s Day, our time of worship moves to 10am for the summer months, and we physically move from the sanctuary to the Great Hall in our air conditioned lower level. From July through October, when the chancel area of our sanctuary will undergo a major renovation, we will continue to worship in the Great Hall, until the project is completed. So, this Sunday, June 9, is our last time in the sacred space as it has been known since it was built in 1927.

Plan now to be a part of this Sunday’s service…and bring a friend!

O beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years
thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God mend thine every flaw,
confirm thy soul in self control, thy liberty in law.

Join us this Sunday of the Memorial Holiday Weekend, May 26, at 11am as we thank God for our freedom as Americans and express our gratitude for a loving creator and the gift of the spirit of Christ Jesus who is ever-present in our lives. Dr. Chalker’s sermon is “Missing the Obvious” and our Chancel Ringers will share their talents throughout this inspirational worship service.

We hope you will be with us and that you will share this invitation to worship in “the church in the circle” with your friends and family.

As we prepare to enjoy this holiday weekend with celebrations and events with people who are special in our lives, we need to remember those persons in Oklahoma who are not able to enjoy their holiday as the result of the recent devastation caused by severe tornadoes.

Weekly Worship Update for Sunday, May 19th

God of wind, word and fire breathes the gift of the Holy Spirit into us this Sunday of Pentecost at University Circle United Methodist Church (UCUMC). Beginning at 11am, Dr. Chalker will teach us the meaning of Pentecost, past and present. And a quartet from the Chancel Choir including Lydia Hall, David Hughes, Pam Maly and Rich Schmidt will provide musical inspiration during the service.

In addition to Case Western Reserve graduation, the Annual Cleveland Marathon occurs Sunday, May 19. To make your travels to the church easier, please read through the race information included below. Plan to join our race celebration on the front lawn of UCUMC from 9:30-10:30 where upbeat music will be amplified, eye-catching tents will protect race watchers from the sun, food will be available for munching and loud encouragements will be chanted not only to support the marathoners but to let everyone in the Circle know that we are a church in the Circle that knows how to have fun!

It’s not too late to join us at 7:30pm tonight to hear the University of Mount Union Concert Choir perform in the UCUMC sanctuary. This group of excellent musicians is ending their Spring Tour with a final performance at our church and it will be well worth your time.
