The film attempts to understand the essence of influence, what makes a person influential without taking a statistical or metric approach. Written and Directed by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson, the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives (advertising, design, fashion and entertainment) who are shaping today’s pop culture. “Influencers” belongs to the new generation of short films, webdocs, which combine the documentary style and the online experience.

Since the dawn of consciousness humans have searched for a belief system. We want to know, 'How should I live?' 'Why is the world like this?' and 'What happens when I die'? Religions give us answers - an endless number of options - and all are convinced that they alone hold the truth. But the major religions tend to agree on one thing - the gays are always going down. Gays and lesbians live and die at the intersection of sexuality and religion. How and why do they make sense of their faith in the face of centuries of hatred and oppression? The Bedroom Commandments is a 90 minute documentary film about homosexuality and faith. In it, documentary film maker Malcolm Burt sets out to explore whether or not one can be gay and formally religious. Determined not to be a religion-basher, he is painfully aware that, under the banner of faith, many homosexual people have been rejected, hurt and killed because of their sexual orientation. Scriptural precepts are often perceived as antigay, and homophobia abounds in religious circles - yet there are those who are both homosexual and devout - and proclaim the scripture is misinterpreted. Malcolm struggles to understand how these faithful homosexuals continue to crave acceptance from a club that reviles them - and wonders if religion is not a choice but an accident of birth. Malcolm interviews a variety of people across a range of ages, backgrounds and faiths. He interviews the non religious and ex religious as well as those currently involved in their church. He invites those still faithful to their religion to explain how they make sense of their convictions in the face of centuries of hatred and oppression. He listens to others describe years of systematic abuse and persecution by religious leaders and followers because of their sexuality. He hears stories of hidden sexuality, brutal reactions to revelations and complete loss of belief. There is anger, hope, fear and enduring faith. Those who have remained true to their religious doctrine explain how their faith helps them to find meaning and peace - they have welcomed the tradition and structure religion adds to their lives. Others talk about their ejection from an exclusive club -- the hetero church. Malcolm includes points of view from a wide spectrum of belief systems and sexual backgrounds, including people whose faith accepts homosexuality. He also converses with experts in the field of religion: a theologian, a sociologist and a moderate Christian pastor who all have differing views on the co-existence of belief and homosexuality. The stories of suffering and pain are compelling and reveal stoic resilience as well as desperate self-loathing. Cynicism and bitterness lie alongside optimism and forgiveness. Malcolm himself journeys towards a greater understanding and tolerance of the need for religion and, indeed, experiences personally a moment of enlightenment. Alongside the revealing conversations, Malcolm incorporates incendiary quotes which reflect opinions from both extremes - some are vitriolic and promote violence and bigotry towards homosexuals, while others condemn the narrow views of some religious institutions. These viewpoints are also portrayed in a series of simple yet effective animations which highlight each religion's attitudes - and contradictions - in regards to homosexuality. But over the last few years, while The News Media (and Dutch tourists) were hemming and hawing over a few neglected streets that had started to look more like meadows, a bunch of creative badasses were quietly buying abandoned 9-story buildings, filling them with everyone they knew, and making Detroit actually pretty fucking incredible. Our old buddy Johnny Knoxville paid a visit to the D to explore for himself.

The ideas of psychogeography and Nick's own deep topography are also explored. The London Perambulator premiered at The Whitechapel Gallery in the East End Film Festival, April 2009. Jeffrey Scott “Jeff” Buckley, raised as Scotty Moorhead, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was the son of Tim Buckley, also a musician. After a decade as a guitarist-for-hire in Los Angeles, Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan’s East Village, such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material. After rebuffing much interest from record labels and his father’s manager Herb Cohen, he signed with Columbia, recruited a band, and recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace. Over the following two years, the band toured widely to promote the album, including concerts in the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia. In 1996, they stopped touring and made sporadic attempts to record his second album in New York with Tom Verlaine as producer. In 1997, Buckley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to resume work on the album, to be titled My Sweetheart the Drunk, recording many four-track demos while also playing weekly solo shows at a local venue. While awaiting the arrival of his band from New York, he drowned during a spontaneous evening swim — fully clothed — in the Wolf River, when he was caught in the wake of a passing boat. His body was found on June 4, 1997. Since his death, there have been many posthumous releases of his material, including a collection of four-track demos and studio recordings for his unfinished second album My Sweetheart the Drunk and expansions of debut album Grace and his Live at Sin-é EP. Chart success also came posthumously; with Leonard Cohen’s song, “Hallelujah” he attained his first #1 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs in March 2008 and reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart in Christmas 2008. Buckley and his work remain popular and are regularly featured in ‘greatest’ lists in the music press.

A history of abortion rights in the United States, this remarkably balanced film examines one of the great divisive issues in this country. Kayes graphic black-and-white film is a perfect metaphor for the most polemic issue in America. The film is extremely comprehensive and shot in a confrontational, intimate style. Kaye, who made the critically praised, provocative indie feature American History X, doesnt shy away from his subject or his subjects. Filmed in tight close-ups, individuals on both sides of the issue are given enough time to explain their beliefs. Some of the most compelling commentary comes from clinic workers who found themselves the victims of terrorist acts initiated by the religious right. It also presents Norma McCorvey, the real-life Jane Roe who has had a startling change of heart and now spends her time speaking out against abortion. Explicit in its material, the film contains a short anti-abortion propaganda film in which a young womans ten-week-old fetus is aborted, as well as other graphic depictions of the procedure. Be warned that these scenes are quite disturbing, regardless of your feelings about the issue. Lake of Fire demonstrates how Roe v. Wade changed the lives of millions of American women. The tide, it appears, may be turning. This provocative film is sure to stir the fire within anyone who cares about human rights.

Every day in Vienna the amount of unsold bread sent back to be disposed of is enough to supply Austria’s second-largest city, Graz. Around 350,000 hectares of agricultural land, above all in Latin America, are dedicated to the cultivation of soybeans to feed Austria’s livestock while one quarter of the local population starves. Every European eats ten kilograms a year of artificially irrigated greenhouse vegetables from southern Spain, with water shortages the result.

In We Feed The World, Austrian filmmaker Erwin Wagenhofer traces the origins of the food we eat. His journey takes him to France, Spain, Romania, Switzerland, Brazil and back to Austria. Leading us through the film is an interview with Jean Ziegler, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food.

We Feed The World is a film about food and globalisation, fishermen and farmers, long-distance lorry drivers and high-powered corporate executives, the flow of goods and cash flow–a film about scarcity amid plenty. With its unforgettable images, the film provides insight into the production of our food and answers the question what world hunger has to do with us.

In the 1930s, Japan's notorious Unit 731 carried out brutal experiments on the population of recently-invaded Manchuria. Whole villages and towns were deliberately infected with plague, and sufferers were dissected alive. Prisoners of war were shot and operated on without anaesthetic so army doctors could practise field surgery. In World War II Germany, concentration camp doctors like Josef Mengele selected twins and Romany prisoners for obscure medical experiments, and killed enemy prisoners in low temperature or high altitude tests, supposedly to protect their own sailors and airmen. After the war, many Nazi 'Doctors of Death' were brought to justice. But in Japan the head of Unit 731 cut a deal with US intelligence; the Americans knew they could never replicate biological data gained through experiments on humans. There are suggestions the US used Japanese bio-weapons in the Korean War -- but America began to suspect the North Koreans had their own unorthodox methods: brainwashing US prisoners with drugs. It was the start of a chemical arms race, reaching its peak in the 1960s and '70s with LSD as the mind-control secret weapon of both sides, intended to cripple the enemy without firing a shot. The US showed drugs experiments in army-sponsored TV documentaries, while in Czechoslovakia -- the drugs laboratory for the whole Eastern Bloc - the state-controlled movie industry was enrolled to shoot surreal feature films portraying the drugs experience. Besides biological and chemical weapons, both Americans and Soviets routinely exposed their own soldiers to nuclear fallout in A-bomb tests. According to General Jan Sejna, the highest-ranking military defector from the East, the Soviets even tied living prisoners of war to stakes as human guinea-pigs in their nuclear tests. The film has a moving and shocking interview with a Japanese doctor who operated on unanaesthetised prisoners. A captured US pilot is seen making an apparently false confession in Korea. A Czech military chemist explains how chemical weapons are deployed, and a victim of a drug-fuelled interrogation describes the experience. The man who debriefed Czech defector Jan Sejna describes the terrifying network of experimentation behind chemical, biological and atomic weapons. The Cold War is over, but weapons development -- and testing -- continues.

On July 7, 1865, three men and one woman were hanged for the crime of conspiring to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln.

After the surrender of Confederate general Robert E. Lee and the announcement that Lincoln would serve a second term as president, John Wilkes Booth, a young southern actor and patriot of the Confederacy, began plotting the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. After hearing the announcement that President Lincoln would be attending a performance at the Ford Theater, Booth assigned the tasks of assassinating both Secretary of State William Seward and Vice President Andrew Johnson to a group of fellow conspirators.

Although it was Booth who fired the bullet that killed the 16th president, this group of eight lesser-known conspirators aided Booth in his scheme.
