OFS: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background before the birth of Depuravita.

Sandra: My background is in design. I worked for over 15 years in the field of contemporary architecture and high-end furniture, eventually becoming marketing manager for one of Italy’s leading design groups. I lived between Miami, New York, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, immersed in a world of aesthetics, materials, and global projects.

In 2015, I reached a point where I needed something different. I launched Italy’s first cold-pressed juice company, and with it, Depuravita was born. It was a way to apply the discipline of design to something more essential: daily wellbeing, the quality of what we consume, and how we care for ourselves.

During the pandemic, this direction became even more focused. It was a time of deep reflection and re-alignment, where we began refining our formulations further - drawing on principles from Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and plant-based pharmacopoeia. We began working more closely with practitioners, increasing the potency and precision of each product. Depuravita evolved into a platform for intelligent supplementation - rooted in purity, function, and respect for both science and tradition.

OFS: You advocate for a more holistic approach to beauty (which we love!). How would you describe this philosophy to wellness and beauty?

Sandra: The word ‘holistic’ has been overused in recent years — much like ‘natural’ was before it. These terms become trends, and consumers are often misled by them. But for us, holistic isn’t a marketing angle. It’s a system of thinking that’s been in place for thousands of years.

In Ayurveda - the oldest documented form of medicine - everything is connected: mind, body, energy, and environment. This principle forms the basis of many other traditions, including Chinese medicine. Nothing stands alone. You can’t treat the skin without addressing the liver, you can’t address beauty without understanding digestion, and you can’t talk about wellness without including the energetic body.

What we put into our body, how we move, how we sleep, how we manage our minds - all of that has an effect not just on how we look, but on our subtle energy field, our nervous system, our presence.

This is what holistic means to us: not a product category, but a way of living - where everything counts, and everything is connected.

OFS: What sets Depuravita apart from other wellness and supplement brands?

Sandra: Depuravita is built on three core pillars that define the essence of the brand.

OFS: If it’s not a secret to share, walk us through your personal supplement regimen and how you achieve such beautiful, glowing skin.

Sandra: My supplement routine shifts with the seasons, but a few things are non-negotiable. Absolute Shield and Heal My Solar Plexus are always part of my base. People often ask what a gut supplement and a vitality blend have to do with glowing skin - the answer is: everything. I used to get sick constantly, especially after travelling. My energy was low, my immune system couldn’t keep up, and I felt out of balance. After the pandemic, it became worse. That’s when I decided to reset everything.

I’ve always had good nutrition, but I never approached food as medicine until that point. I started using adaptogens and medicinal mushrooms daily, and then discovered artemisia and shilajit - their fulvic and humic acid content changed the way I function and feel.

OFS: Beyond topical and ingestible products, what other wellness practices do you swear by to look and feel your best?

Sandra: Infrared sauna sessions are essential for me - they support circulation, detox, and help reset my nervous system. I also walk in nature as often as I can. It brings clarity and perspective, especially when life gets fast.

Kundalini Yoga Kriyas are a key part of my practice. The breathwork, repetition, and intensity create a deep energetic shift - but they also activate facial muscles in a way that’s incredibly toning. In many ways, they work as natural face yoga. I don’t separate the two.

And then there’s joy - which is probably the most powerful wellness tool I know. Feeling joy, sharing it, and making space for it daily changes everything. No protocol works if joy is missing.

OFS: What advice would you give women who are transitioning into perimenopause, menopause or post menopause who are struggling to feel confident in their skin and bodies?

Sandra: Menopause is not a one-size-fits-all experience. The first step is understanding your hormonal landscape - not just estrogen, but also progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol. These hormones shape how you feel, look, sleep, and move through your day.

There are typically three main profiles:

- Estrogen Dominance - symptoms may include anxiety, irritability, breast tenderness, and water retention. Testosterone may still be relatively stable, but the imbalance with progesterone creates overstimulation.

- Estrogen and Testosterone Depletion - common in later perimenopause and menopause, with signs like dryness, fatigue, lowered libido, skin thinning, and loss of muscle tone.

- Mixed Type - a fluctuating pattern where estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone swing unpredictably, often creating a confusing mix of symptoms.

I always recommend starting with a hormone test to see where you are. From there, you can build an intentional support strategy - not just with supplements, but with sunlight exposure, targeted breathwork, and movement that stimulates the glandular system. Herbs like ashwagandha, maca, red clover, and shatavari can be adapted depending on your profile, and Kundalini kriyas that activate the pituitary and adrenal glands are practices I value.

This is the approach that inspired us to formulate Strike a Pause - not as a symptom-fixer, but as a companion. It includes adaptogens, red clover, and a tailored vitamin blend to gently support your body’s rhythm. Menopause can begin as early as 35, and we often don’t realise we’re in it until much later. OFS: What’s your favourite ritual to help you relax and recharge?

Sandra: My favourite ritual to recharge is hiking with my dogs - ideally where the mountains meet the water.

After a full day outdoors, there's a kind of physical satisfaction, a tired body but a clear mind. Watching the sunset in silence, with them next to me, is the moment I slow down and reset. I always take a few minutes to sit, breathe, and reflect.

Taking care of my dogs is also a form of meditation. It keeps me grounded and focused on what’s important. I make sure they’re living their best life, because they’ve changed mine for the better - every single day.

OFS: Describe your perfect day.

Sandra: My perfect day starts the moment I wake up, grateful to be alive and to have my loved ones safe around me - that alone already feels like a perfect day.

The words "detox" and "cleansing" can have different connotations or practices amongst different people; of course, we have our unique take on them too. We wanted to address some misconceptions about juice cleansing and clear up the three big areas of cleansing that have some people scratching their heads in confusion. By sharing our philosophy on the matter, we hope we are aligned with our community and inspire you to think about what cleansing means to you?

Misconception 1: Juice magically dispels the body of all toxins

While that sounds miraculous, your very clever liver, kidneys, colon, lungs, skin and lymphatic system are responsible for removing toxins from your body. Instead, a juice cleanse focuses on creating the right conditions for these organs to do their job efficiently.

Whilst on a cleanse, you are giving your body a break from caffeine, alcohol, pesticides (the reason you should only ever cleanse organic!), gluten, grains, dairy, preservatives or anything processed and artificial. These common irritants can cause inflammation and the build-up of possible toxicities in our bodies. By removing these, you eliminate culprits that may strain our detoxification organs and create a more favourable environment for healing. In short, giving your body a much-needed break.

On top of that, if you consider how much raw, organic produce it takes to make a single jar of our organic cold-pressed juices, you can bet your body is receiving more micronutrients, vitamins and minerals than it does in a typical day of eating. The micronutrients found in fruits, vegetables, and our juices, support your vital organs to carry out various tasks, including removing wastes from the body.

One of the standout benefits we've found from 10 years of customer feedback is that our juice cleanses reset your relationship with food. You crave natural, raw fruits and vegetables and feel much less phased by your morning coffee ritual or food vices. Misconception 2: Juice cleansing means I won't be getting enough fibre

Alright, let's get to the nitty gritty of fibre! When we're talking fibre, there are two basic types: soluble fibre and insoluble fibre. Fresh juice naturally has soluble fibre, that is, fibre that dissolves in water. Soluble fibre is a gel-like substance that assists in feeding our gut microflora as it is a prebiotic, giving us a sense of "fullness", and balances our blood sugar levels.

Insoluble fibre does not dissolve in water, and lefotver pulp from juicing is an excellent example of this "roughage". Insoluble fibre makes up the bulk of our stools because it is indigestible. There are still trace amounts present in juices, but most are removed. This is why some people can experience reduced bowel movements during a juice cleanse. A juice cleanse gives the digestive tract a chance to take a break from processing more insoluable fibre and "catch up", thoroughly cleaning out before eating more insoluble fibre again post-juice cleanse.

Considering that you would need to consume multiple kilograms of raw produce to get the same micronutrients during one day of juice cleansing, you can see the benefit of having less insoluble fibre as it removes the bulk of flesh from the produce. We are left with a super micronutrient-dense liquid, and our digestive system is given a break to heal and repair.

We include organic psyllium husks in all our juice cleanses to stir into your juices as it is a rich insoluble fibre. That way, you get the benefit of micronutrient-dense raw juices with the addition of "roughage" to help with bowel movements and daily fibre intake.

If you are particularly concerned with getting enough insoluble fibre on your cleanse, we recommend our Level 1 Cleanse, Whole Foods Cleanse or Warm Cleanse, as they all contain meal, smoothie and soup options with a mix of both kinds of fibre. Misconception 3: Juice cleansing is just about losing weight

While some people undertake a juice cleanse to lose weight, this is not our philosophy at Sol Cleanse. We are primarily concerned with resetting your relationship with food and yourself. Slow and Rhythmic Movements: Lymphatic massage is not about the force of the movement but the rhythm and consistency. Ensure your movements are slow, steady, and methodical.

Let’s take the stigma and shame out of our imperfect skin. After all, acne is something most of us have experienced at least once in our lives, and unfortunately, something some of us struggle with daily. There’s no doubt we’re not alone when it comes to experiencing a breakout (or two!), yet it can be ultra confusing sifting through the endless amounts of help guides out there. Acne doesn’t have to always get a bad rap if we start understanding what it is and the ways that we can support our own unique skin.

What exactly is acne?

Acne or Acne Vulgaris, is a skin condition that occurs in the oil gland of a hair follicle. When this gland becomes blocked and inflamed, bacteria can grow which results in congestion. It is common to see raised, red lumps on the surface of the skin which can be localised to a certain area or across several areas such as the face, chest and back.  

The four stages of acne explained.

• The first stage starts with comedones (blackheads) where the oil gland has become blocked but is not yet inflamed.
• The second stage involves whiteheads or pimples where the oil has built up inside the gland and the pore has become raised and inflamed. This is generally localised to a certain area such as the face and may come and go periodically - for example during hormonal changes.
• The third stage is known as inflamed acne which presents itself as constant inflammation that doesn’t dissipate and may start to appear on different parts of the body.
• Finally, the fourth stage, known as cystic acne, is characterised by deep, painful lumps that are prone to infection and may cause scarring.  

Contributing factors 

If you’ve ever been impacted by breakouts you might ask yourself, why is my body doing this to me?!
 
There are a few theories as to what causes acne, but because everyone’s skin is so unique, different factors will affect different people. Common triggers include diet, hormonal changes, overuse of harsh skin products and environmental aggressors.  

For example, diets high in sugar increase our insulin levels, which in turn can lead to an increase in oil production in the skin which correlates with blockages in the oil glands. It's best to swap excess sugar and salt for vitamin-rich, high-fibre foods (such as vegetables) to support healthy gut bacteria and regulate insulin levels. 

In the same way, the more androgens (male hormones) we have, the more oil we produce, so it is common to see acne emerge as we go through hormonal changes associated with puberty, menstruation, pregnancy or menopause.  

Guilty of using too many actives on your skin in the hope of an overnight miracle? Us too! The overuse of chemical exfoliants or too frequent use of active serums can damage the protective layer of our skin, our acid mantle. When this is impaired, it leads to skin irritation and prevents the skin from being able to naturally deflect environmental aggressors such as pollution, blue light and bacteria.   

How can you treat it? 

The main goal of treating acne should be to reduce inflammation, both topically and internally. Here are some general tips to adopt: 

• Know your skin & track any flare-ups – is it something you are eating or has certain skincare triggered your skin? Do you notice it more when you are stressed? Try keeping a diary so you can notice any patterns. 
• The microbiome (aka the microorganisms that live in our gut!) plays a big role in skin health so ensuring your diet is rich in gut-friendly foods is super important. For some, cutting out sugar, gluten, dairy and processed foods can have great results.
• Keep it simple – opt for products that support your skin, not irritate it. Use non-comedogenic skincare and make-up which lets the skin breathe as much as possible.
• Adopt a consistent and holistic approach – topical products are only one part. Consider your overall diet, reduce your stress levels, and double cleanse at the end of each day. If you need extra support, see a holistic practitioner who will be able to run the appropriate tests to help get closer to understanding the root cause of your flare-ups.

How Ayurvedic Beauty is Truly Different

Ayurveda is a holistic science and promotes that true inner, outer and lasting beauty which is composed of three vital elements: a well-nourished body, a balanced mind, and a peaceful spirit.

Nature’s Elemental Laws

According to Ayurveda all matter in our universe including us humans is composed of the five fundamental building blocks of nature - Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. These elements combine to form what are called the ‘Doshas’ which are the three elemental Mind-Body types – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each dosha has its own unique quality and all three are found in our bodies although one is usually predominant.

So which Dosha is most true to you?

Vata Dosha

Vata oversees our movement and our nervous system and is present in muscle contractions, heartbeat, the flow of breath, neurons firing and our thoughts, ideas, creativity and imagination. Vata skin is lacking in moisture and firmness and is often dehydrated, dry and more prone to premature ageing, lack of tone and dark circles under the eyes.  Aika Vata products are intensely hydrating, nourishing and vitalising for the skin and promote elasticity, suppleness and brightness while helping to ground the emotions and reduce feelings of anxiety and tension.

Pitta Dosha

Evening Rituals should include meditation or a spiritual practice, massage of the head and feet and turning off bright lights two hours before bed. Getting into bed before 10pm helps release melatonin and promote deep sleep which is when our body regenerates and repairs from the day.

If you experience sensitivity, opt for minimalist blends of gentle oils with anti-inflammatory properties such as jojoba oil, coconut oil and calendula oil. It’s best to patch test the oil on your inner wrist before applying to your face to ensure your skin doesn’t react. The Oil Cleansing Method

You should double cleanse if you're wearing sunscreen, makeup or simply need a thorough cleanse. The first cleanse will remove your sunscreen, makeup and impurities. The second cleanse will properly cleanse your skin. Below is your general oil cleansing ritual in 3 easy steps. Ensure to refer to any specific instructions on your own product packaging.

Step 1

Apply the oil cleanser onto dry skin and massage using upward and outward circular motions. Use sweeping movements from the center out to the hair and jaw lines.

Tip: If you’re wearing lots of eye makeup, it’s great to remove this first with a gentle oil cleanser or dedicated eye-makeup remover. Either gently swipe around your eyes with your fingertips or a soft cotton pad.

Step 2

Follow with a warm, wet washcloth to massage and wipe off the oil. You can apply firmer pressure for extra exfoliation. It’s essential to remove the oil with a cloth!

Option: If you prefer, instead of step 1, you can apply the oil cleanser directly onto your damp cloth and massage the cloth onto your face.

Step 3

If double cleansing, apply your second cleanser of choice suited to your skin type (e.g. oil, cream or gel cleanser). Massage and wipe off with a warm, damp cloth.

In recent years, “sulphate-free” has become increasingly common on the label of every new shampoo and conditioner. The term has become associated with being “healthier” and “organic” even when that is not the case.

Sodium laurel sulphate is a harsh surfactant, found in household cleaning products and even in tooth paste. Sodium laurel sulphate is also a suspected carcinogen which is why consumers seek alternatives. However, not all companies making sulphate-free shampoos are truly free of sulphate compounds or derivatives.

THE CHEMISTRY OF SULPHATE-FREE SHAMPOO

Chemistry is a defined science.

When you change one element of a formula or ingredient, you change the composition. This in turn, changes the ingredient. For example, Sodium laurel sulphate becomes sodium laurel sulfonate, simply by changing an O to an X in the ingredient design. Voila! The product is now sulphate-free. Or so they claim…

Marketers love these slight variations that allow them to glamorise a healthier point of difference in their products. This gives the consumer the impression that the product is safer, healthier, and cleaner. We call this “word smithing” or “greenwashing.” In reality, these new surfactants, although gentler, are sulphate compounds.

What most consumers don’t know is that these companies are choosing chemicals that are often stronger and harsher than sulphates. These substitutes include cocamide DEA, cocamide MEA, PEG, propylene glycol, cocamidopropyl betaine or hydroxysultaine.

HOW DO I FIND SULPHATE-FREE PRODUCTS?

In common terms, these new generation of surfactants acts as a cousin to their original counter parts. The good news is that truly sulphate-free hair products are out there! True sulphate-free shampoos derive from gentler, plant-extracts. They use amino acids, seed oils, such as palm or coconut oil, and possess numerous advantages over their chemically manufactured counterparts.

Look for products that contain many of the following ingredients:

• Gulcosides – Ecocert approved, they come from renewable, plant-derived raw materials. Examples are vegetable oils and starch. Lauryl glucoside, a surfactant made from coconut oil and sugar, is one of the gentlest cleaners on the market. Because it is naturally derived, lauryl glucosides facilitate effective cleansing with a reduced potential for irritation.
• Taurates and Fatty Acid Isethionates – Derived from the coconut fatty acid. They have an excellent cleansing ability and hair conditioning effect. Also, they are exceptionally mild for the hair, skin and eyes.
• Glutamates – Amino acid based surfactants often find themselves in certified organic products. Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic, glutamates are also known for being one of the mildest active agents on the market.
• Amino Acid Sulfosuccinates – These have mild and anti-irritant properties. Surfactants are especially suitable for products made for delicate skin and baby shampoos due to their super gentle nature.

STAY AWAY FROM PRODUCTS THAT CLAIM TO BE SULPHATE-FREE BUT CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS:

• Cocamide DEA
• Cocamide MEA
• PEG’s, PEG8
• Propylene Glycol
• Cocamidopropyl Betaine
• Hydroxysultain

From how it all started, to self-love rituals, clean beauty and the story behind our name, I hope this interview inspires you to fall further in love with natural beauty.

1. Hi Kayla! First of all give us the lowdown on One Fine Secret.

2. What’s the story behind the name One Fine Secret?

There’s actually a couple of elements to its meaning. Firstly, the ‘secret’ to a beautiful life, buzzing with wellness and vitality is found in nature. Everything revolves around nature, we are part of nature ourselves. Unfortunately, as we’re becoming more disconnected from our natural environment than ever before, we’re losing a lot of the health benefits it provides.

For thousands of years our ancestors have been turning to nature for the amazing, potent active ingredients ideal for beauty and healing. The common theme is that in each of our products, you’ll find a wonderful selection of active natural ingredients that nourish your body and produce results similar to and even beyond mainstream alternatives.

Secondly, we wanted to provide a platform for you all to enjoy these hidden natural treasures that are making waves around the world with beauty editors, experts and also winning mainstream awards too.

The reality is natural beauty is still a niche part of the broader industry, and a lot of these boutique brands are still quite undiscovered by conventional beauty shoppers. They’re harder to find in stores especially, but one day I’m hoping the ‘natural beauty’ industry will become simply the ‘beauty industry’.

And as fate has it, our Melbourne store also perfectly reflects our name too! It’s really a hidden secret, tucked away behind grand wooden doors of a character-filled heritage building less than a block from Bourke St Mall.

4. On the topic of self-love, what’s the one thing you wish we all knew about nasties in skincare and the impact that has on our skin body?

Can you guess one of the most common irritants that you’ll find in almost every conventional product you use, from skincare, makeup, haircare, personal care and even cleaning and household products? Well, it’s synthetic fragrances (or perfume/parfum). It seems almost everything is scented nowadays to make it more enticing for us to use.

One of the key issues with synthetic fragrances (as opposed to natural plant-based fragrances), is that they often use a group of chemicals called phthalates that hold scent and colour. Phthalates are linked to skin irritation and are a known endocrine (hormone) disruptor and reproductive toxicant. They’re also plasticisers, used to make plastic products soft and bendable.

In addition, the term ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’ on an ingredient list is protected by trade secret laws. So when you see it listed, it can actually include a cocktail of hundreds of harmful chemicals to create the one fragrance.

If you’re looking to switch to healthier products, synthetic fragrances is definitely one to avoid, and we don’t allow them in any of our products. Our skin is our largest organ, and it’s permeable which is exactly why nicotine and medical patches work. So you’d want to make sure that you’re feeding your skin with only wholesome goodness.

Self-regulated beauty industry – It’s up to us to shop wise

Cosmetics and personal care items are such an essential part of our lives and it seems reasonable to assume that some authority must be looking out for us all. At least the government must have set rules for testing and ingredient regulations, right?

Well…no. Unlike the tightly regulated medicines sector, the cosmetics industry is largely self-regulated. In Australia, there is no safety testing required before a product is put on shelves for you to buy.

The Top 5 Suspects

Unless you’re sticking to all certified organic products, you’ll need to learn how to decipher those ingredient lists if you’re keen on clean-screening your beauty cabinet.

To help you kick start your clean out, we’ve picked the top 5 suspect items to focus on first.

Synthetic Fragrance

Fragrances are included in almost all beauty products and if the label doesn’t explicitly state that it’s a natural fragrance, then you can assume that ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’ on the label is a synthetic fragrance.

The term ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’ is protected by trade secret laws and when listed on a product can actually include a cocktail of hundreds of harmful chemicals to create the one fragrance.

Aluminium in Deodorants

Your armpits are one of your key detoxifying areas of your body with a concentration of lymph nodes and sweat glands. You’ll find that conventional deodorants can include aluminium as an antiperspirant ingredient, which is a known neurotoxin.

Sweating is a healthy function and natural deodorants focus on neutralising odours and absorbing the sweat. There are so many healthy and effective natural deodorants on the market now, look for natural aluminium-free deodorants without synthetic fragrances or other nasties.

Synthetic sunscreens

Chemical sunscreens are some of the strongest skin irritants in the beauty industry. You’ll see these appear on labels as oxybenzone, octinoxate, PABA, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene etc. Chemical suscreens work by filtering and absorbing UV rays and can degrade in your skin, forming potentially harmful breakdown products. They are also known endocrine (hormone) disruptors.

Instead, look for natural (mineral) suncreens that use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These are physical UV blockers that work by reflecting UV light and maintain their stability in sunlight.

Shampoo and conditioner

Hair care products contain some of the most health-disrupting ingredients of all beauty products. It’s not uncommon to find sulphates, endocrine-disrupting preservatives, powerful synthetic fragrances and potentially carcinogenic plasticizers and dyes.

You’ll find that the natural alternatives will be gentler on your hair and body without the harsh stripping surfactants. Your hair will also be deeply nourished with natural plant oils and butters instead of silicones or petroleum-derived synthetics.

Lipstick

We all know that we consume a large portion of whatever goes on our lips. Lipsticks can be filled with ingredients we wouldn’t want anywhere near our lips such as dyes not allowed in foods, synthetic fragrances, endocrine disrupting preservatives and heavy metal contaminants.

Look instead for natural lipsticks that use mineral or food pigments and are packed with lots of healthy plant oils and extracts.
