Last year when I asked my daughter Matisse what kind of party she would like to celebrate her 4th birthday, her choice was simply a ‘Princess party’, inspired by her love of Princess Rapunzel’s character in her favourite movie ‘Tangled”. Tisse had just a few requests for her royal celebration which helped me come up with the concept for the party, the 1st request being that I had to use her favourite colours ‘pink & purple’ (seems to be a favourite colour combo amongst little girls of the same age), 2nd request was she wanted to play ‘pass-the-parcel’ with all her friends and 3rd she wanted a pretty princess cake!  My mind began to explode with ideas and as always I started designing the Party Printable collection first, asking for Tissey’s feedback on her invitation and a few other decor items in the collection “It’s so beautiful Mummy” was her response, she was a very happy customer!

I sent the artwork off to Lisa from Cakes and Biscuits by Lisa and asked her to create a “pretty” two tier ombre frill cake in the colours found on the invitation, the cake was topped with a shimmering silver fondant crown. Lisa also made star wand cookies, crown cookies and pink and purple macarons all finished with disco dust! The macarons were a hit and my husband Brett (who is far from a sweet tooth) devoured 4 in a row! Nice.

There were quite a few DIY projects in place for the decor, with hot glue gun in hand I made the ribbon backdrop and tulle skirt for the dessert table, tulle poms, jewel embellished wooden spoons and tissue paper tassels for the large round balloons.

On the kids table, each Princess received their own star wand and matching crown to wear and the boys wore a pirate patch and hat. Every party guest had a personalised bottle of water at their place setting and were served up party food such as mini quiches, mini pizzas, crown sandwiches and fruit skewers.

On the dessert table was a selection of sweet treats including: Star wand cookies; Royal Macarons (pink and purple with magic dust to give them a shimmer): Castle cupcakes (made by yours truly); Fairy princess bread (cut in the shape of a crown); Princess chocolate bars; Jelly and mousse pots (purple jelly layered with a pink mousse) and Pale pink shimmer sixlets!

At the beverage station there were milk bottles filled with pink milk. Beautiful pink straws were embellished with purple and pale pink heart straw flags and the milk bottles were wrapped with a co-ordinating wrapper all available from our printable collection.

Entertainment was provided by a “real” princess by the name of ‘Princess Polly’ who was wearing a beautiful gown to match the birthday girls (brilliant!) she performed face painting on all the children before the games and dancing began. Games included the must-have ‘pass-the-treasure chest’ along with storytime, magic tricks, music and limbo! It was so magical and what I imagine to be every little girls dream!

Every Prince and Princess received favour bags which included princess jewels (or pirate loot), a star wand or crown cookie, chocolate bars and shimmering sixlets candy.

KIDS PARTY GAMES

To kick off this post on Kids Party Games and in keeping with the FROZEN theme, I thought I would share Matisse’s favourite party game we played at her recent Frozen birthday party.. (“your very welcome”)

“FREEZE TAG”

HOW TO PLAY:

Materials Required: A large area free of obstacles.
Number of Players Required: 4-10 required.
Time Required: Varies. About 20 minutes.

Begin by choosing a person to be “It” (or “Marshmallow”.. from the movie)
That person can freeze other players.
When the game begins, everyone runs away from the person who is “it.”
The one who is “it” chases after other players, trying to tag (touch) them.
If a person is successfully tagged, he or she must “freeze” in place (stand still and not move).
Frozen people cannot move until another player un-freezes them (touches them or crawls under the arch of their legs to return them to normal)
The player who is “it” wins by freezing all players!
Keep playing until the majority of your friends collapse in exhaustion or they just become too bored to continue.

Mum-to-be Danielle and I had travelled around Europe together in our 20′s and then spent time living on opposite sides of the globe. It wasn’t until our early 30′s that we were reunited again, both of us returned to Melbourne, met our future husbands and were planning our weddings which were being held just months apart from one another.

As it turns out we now live just 5 minutes away in the same suburb, so being close meant I found out about her pregnancy very early on. I was so delighted to hear the news that one of my closest friends was pregnant with her 1st baby and joining me in motherhood, possibly the greatest adventure of them all!

Soon after she announced her impending arrival Dani asked me to help her throw a baby shower to celebrate! I still had quite a few months up my sleeve to plan the shower, so I started to gather ideas about what theme she would like to have.  As the gender of her baby (affectionately known as Baby Fletcher) was unknown, I took inspiration from her nursery where she had started to purchase the linen for her cot and and other items that had a ‘precious bear’ on them. I chose a neutral colour palatte which was a combination of yellow, beige and chocolate brown, it was so easy to co-ordinate the dessert and beverage items with this theme.

I designed a printable collection that has the largest amount of items in it with the addition of a ‘Baby Wish List’ insert listing the items that Dani still needed in preparation for her baby, this was sent out to her guests along with the co-ordinating invitation. There is also a ‘Wishes for Baby’ card that guests could fill out on the day of the shower and also a ‘Guest book Moon Balloon’ where everyone in attendance left a thumbprint to make it fly, a cute little keepsake that can be framed.

Sweet treats on the dessert table included heavenly honeycomb, star kissed caramels, ready to ‘POP’ caramel popcorn, over the moon macarons, and the gorgeous cake made by Rose from Sweet Surprise Cakes.

The cake was a white chocolate with cookies and cream covered in chocolate ganache and finished with a thin layer of white fondant. I sent Rose (Sweet Surprise Cakes) a PDF of the invitation which provided her with inspiration to create the sweet moon topper and to also decorate the base of the cake with stars and the precious bear which is found on the graphics from our printables.

The beverage table had a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages including this Half Moon Mocktail which was non-alcoholic Pina Colada garnished with pineapple cut into a half moon shape

All her guests received a candle favour to light when baby was here to stay and a sweet box filled with treats and personalised chocolate bars.

Dani invited 24 friends and family who made the day so special, her mum Jan and close friends Jo and Jess contributed to the catering, games and fun throughout the day then receiving beautiful gifts and reading over her ‘Wishes for Baby Fletcher’ cards with her husband Michael made for a memorable day filled with special moments and tears of joy. I’m so proud to have been a part of such an important milestone as my friend embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life, as a Mum.

The shower was held in January 2013 which is Summer here in Australia, leaving just enough time before the arrival of ‘Baby Fletcher’.

It was Sunday 4th April 2013 and a sweet little girl named ‘Alexis Ann’ was turning ONE.
There’s always something special about a 1st birthday and a beautiful party was planned to celebrate not only this important milestone but also to host Alexis’ Naming Day ceremony.
My dear friend Tamika (Alexis’ Mum) had asked me for suggestions on a theme for the day and I took inspiration from a soft owl toy that our family gave to Alexis’ on the day that she was born. I custom designed the “Little Owl” party printable collection specifically for Alexis’ celebration and a sweet little dessert table was set up reflecting the colours of the party decor: pale pink, fuchsia and turquoise.  Taking centre stage was the adorable ‘Owl birthday cake’ (made by Tamika) sitting upon a wood stump adding to the woodland feel of the party which was held under a marquee outdoors at their family home.

 Dessert table highlights were of course the ‘Owl birthday cake’ along with chocolate mud cupcakes topped with pistachio persian fairy floss and delightful 3D fondant owls. The cute marshmallow pops were made by Alexis’ Grandma.

Look, up in the sky, it’s a bird.. it’s a plane.. it’s Super Lincoln!

When my client Dong-Maria, (owner of the gorgeous children’s clothing, accessories and decor website BabyDonkie) asked me to custom design a Superhero party printable collection for her son Lincoln’s 4th birthday, I lept over the tallest buildings just to get started. ‘Super heroes’ would have to be my favourite party theme for boys (and girls), there’s something about a mask and a cape and magical super powers that indulges that ‘inner hero’ inside all of us.

We love seeing Mum’s and Dad’s create ‘real parties’ for their children and as this was Dong-Maria’s first time at planning and creating a themed DIY birthday party using party printables I’m super impressed and super inspired with how well all the details were brought together by our very clever customer. When I showed my 3 year old daughter the pictures from the party, she ran straight to her dress-up box, put on her wonder woman costume and transformed into a super hero for the remainder of the afternoon. I’m certain you’ll feel inspired too.

It’s surprisingly easy to create your own cupcake toppers and they can make a dramatic difference to the presentation of the humble cupcake!

MATERIALS: 

•  2″ Party Dots

• 2″ scallop circle nesting punch – EK Sucess Paper Shapers through Amazon or Spotlight

• Wilton 100 pack 11.5cm Lollipop Candy Sticks – available from Baking Pleasures or your local baking supplies shop

• Clear photo spot stickers or Tiger Glue – available from Spotlight

• Ribbon or twine to embellish the Lollipop stick

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1: Purchase your personalised ’2 inch Party Dots’ PDF Printable File from One Magic Day

Step 2: Download your file and colour print onto 200 GSM A4 cardstock. We print all our Party Stationary on a Canon Pixma inkjet printer and some of our customers also prefer to take their files to their local printer or Officeworks for printing.

Step 3: Gather all your materials

 Happy Valentine’s Day from One Magic Day

I simply couldn’t wait till after Christmas to show you our clever customers photos using our popular
“Eat Drink and Be Merry” Printables. We are spending our very first Christmas together in our new home this year
so yesterday I decided to visit both the Supermarket and Spotlight and created all this in just under 2 hours!

A cute little dessert table now sits at the entrance to our house, enticing our visitors with Candy Canes and Chocolate Sultana’s! I will add our Christmas Cake, rum balls, Mince Pie’s and mini Plum Pud’s to the table closer to the BIG day!
Adding a sparkle to the table I used red sequin ribbon and co-ordinating light blue ribbon to embellish the jars – all ribbon was purchased from Spotlight

Our new house doesn’t have a Fireplace so I’ve hung the Merry Christmas bunting above our breakfast bar instead.

 The chocolate bars and cookie bags are so easy to make as little gifts! The chocolate bars are ‘Moser Roth’ brand and can be purchased from Aldi Supermarket.
The cookies were purchased from Coles Supermarket, a gift from our daughter Matisse to all the staff at Daycare.
