About a year ago, I removed my blog and decided to pursue another route. But, as things often do, I've come full circle and have decided to rekindle my highly-regarded and much-sought-after blaze of opinions and rantings. Most everything I say is true.

To start, I'd like to make a few comments about the current political debacle flooding the media. It seems that every person involved in this 2012 presidential race is obsessed with blaming President Obama for the current state of the country. Joblessness, Wall Street strikes, housing meltdowns, troop placement, etc. have been repeatedly attributed to the man in the oval office. Quite frankly, regardless of which fallible political party or belief system you claim, as long as you contain a single fleeting fragment of intelligence you can understand the following analogy. I'll give you a few moments to look up some of the words I just used.

Good, now... Imagine this:

You are hired at a company and start work Monday. On your first day, your boss explains to you that the person you are replacing has made quite a mess. That person lost or falsified almost 2500 records and documents, embezzled money from corporate earnings, and greatly damaged the company's relationship with a large number of important clients, who have since threatened to take their business elsewhere if things aren't speedily rectified. In addition, this person's work has been piling up since they were fired over two weeks ago and it doesn't look like it will slow down. There are three new implementations you have been tasked to oversee and countless other small day-to-day responsibilities.

Now, how much of this do you think you'll complete in the first day? What about the first week? Or month? Or year? Believe me, it's going to take some time. In fact you may never be able to fully restore everything back to the way it was prior to your predecessor's vandalism. It's going to take the help of others, and if they're not willing to work together, it's all going to fall to you.

But that's not fair is it? You didn't embezzle the money. You didn't falsify the records. So why are people looking at you and treating you like it's your fault? You're just going to have to work your hardest and do your best. Hopefully you'll make a dent in this mess before long.

So, back to reality. Check out this excerpt from an article on CNN.com:

House Speaker John Boehner mocked President Barack Obama's assertion that the country was "better off" now because of actions his administration took.

An incredulous Boehner, asked Wednesday about the president's answer to a question about the status of the economy, raised his voice and replied, "Are you kidding me?"

"Why don't you go ask the 14 million Americans who are out of work whether they're better off today than they were four years ago?" Boehner told reporters on Capitol Hill.

People keep demanding, "Is this country better off than it was 4 years ago?" And both opponents and proponents are so keen to point out that things are not back to the way things were! That wasn't the question. The question is, "is the country better off than it was 4 years ago. In other words, are we taking steps in the right direction to correct what was broken before Obama got into the White House? Well, here's another analogy for you:

Think back to the same story I just told you about your new job. Now look here at your predecessor's trajectory. It started out well, but started dropping after too many mistakes and careless or greedy things started happening. If you hadn't stepped in when you did, things would have been much worse off. So are things better today than they were when you started? Yes. Are things better than they were when your predecessor started? No. But hey, at least they're on their way back up.

I don't care which demon you're aligned with, but let's all just try to pay attention to what's coming out of our mouths. The world will be a much better place if we do.
