Clown Cuties

My daughter's 3rd birthday is in March and we are having a BIG party!

A circus themed birthday party!!!

We will be having two clowns, a bounce house, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, a chocolate fountain, and an endless amount of sweets:)

Since we are having about 70 people the food and entertainment has taken a big chunk out of our budget so I have had to come up with budget friendly ideas and doing a lot of diy projects to make her birthday memorable and adorable.

I went with vintage circus inspired colors like light pink, red and aqua.

I made the invitations, cupcake toppers, banners and food labels and some decorations myself using a digital paper and clip art set from Cupcake Cutiees Designs

I also made some little clown cuties to decorate with.
Here is what you need:
some 12x12 scrapbook paper in your choice of colors (cut in 4s)
dowel rods or skewers
a package of Styrofoam balls (you can make the clowns as little or as big as you like)
red poms
and hot glue

First you are going to fold the paper accordion style (remember cut the paper in 4s so you will have 4 small squares)

Then cut in half

Fold both pieces in half

Glue together sides then both pieces together

Then, put a dowel through the center space, you have now made the clown's collar.

Now all you need to do is put some hot glue on the paper close to the rod and push the Styrofoam ball on the dowel. The glue will help both the collar and ball stay in place (careful not to push the dowel all the way through the ball)
Lastly glue on a little red pom nose and you are done!

I made little party hats to go on top of my clown's heads, but you could decorate them anyway you like. Hair, eyeballs and even a little mouth would be cute! You could put them on pop sticks for cupcake toppers or just use them as decorations like me.
You could even make them big for table decor or even centerpieces.

Button Storage

I cleaned out my pantry the other day and wanted to get it all organized like the numerous pics I have seen on Pinterest.

So I took everything out, cleaned and organized using baskets and plastic containers from the dollar store.

Well, I found this really old spice rack thing in the back of the closet. It was all dusty and had clumped together spices in it!

I was not about to use that thing! So I figured out a way to reuse it in my craft room:)

As an organizer for my buttons!! it spins too making it extra awesome!!

I cleaned it off, sanded it a little bit so the paint would stick and cleaned out the glass containers.

Using my circle hole punch and some mod podge I made little circles to cover a majority of the lids. you could also spray paint them with paint or even chalk board paint! or just make new labels for them with your printer and sticker paper. I choose to just go with paper in a different color to match my craft room, but whatever floats your boat;)

I love the way it turned out! It's super functional and will look great just sitting on my craft table:)

Editing Photos

I am no photographer!

Just a mom trying to capture beautiful pictures of my daughter, so I just bought my first DSLR!! a

Canon Eos Rebel T2i

I am still learning all about the camera, lenses and how to take great photographs.

I sell crochet hats online and needed to have good pictures to show my work. I also wanted to be able to take great pictures of my family and friends, knowing how expensive a professional can cost. So I choose a beginner camera and I must say I love it! It is easy to understand and fits comfortably in my hands:)

I don't know anything about editing in photo shop or any other expensive program, so when I came across

Picnik I was quite thrilled! It's only $25.00 a year and is super easy to work with. Like I said I have never done anything like this before, so I am learning new things everyday!

Here is one of the ways I edit my photos

First Crop, then I play with the exposure to lighten it up a little bit.

I click on advance then curves. I use the cross process (my favorite) option to yellow it up a bit to make it look like its sunny (it was super cloudy outside) play with the curves a bit until you get the right shade you are looking for. The top dot will brighten the photo and the bottom dot will darken it.

*Sorry for making you photogs cringe because I don't know any of the technical terms*

I then fade it to about 50% or more to give it just a subtle glow.

Depending on the person (or how much my tot slept) I play around with the touch up options. There is wrinkle remover (which is good for fading the dark circles under eyes) and airbrushing, but I fade it to about 80% so my child doesn't look "fake"

There are so many awesome options to play around with. I basically just sat there for hours editing one picture until I figured out what each option does and how it affects the picture.

Here is the before and after, just a little bit of editing made a HUGE difference!

If your a mom like me or just learning you don't need some expensive fancy shmancy program to edit. I love how simple and affordable this site is.

Birdy Houses

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I ate and ate and ate until I couldn't eat anymore and it was AMAZING:)

I found these cute little bird houses at Michael's in the dollar section and just had to have them. I figured I could just put them in my craft room for a little fun and quirky touch.

I just found some coordinating scrapbook paper in the colors of my craft room. Don't be scared to pick different colors and patterns just find one that has all the colors in it in a daring pattern (like the paisley print I found) and pull colors from that. Using different patterns will give it more personality. Just keep the pattern different sizes to keep it from looking too busy. The paisley is a large pattern, the stripes a medium and the green polka dot a small size. Get it? and this works for anytime you want to coordinate, for instance pillow fabric:)

Cut the paper to size

Make a hole using a hole punch for the little bird pirch thingy:)

Dry fit and trace your thumb around the bigger hole to make an imprint.

Punch a hole in the imprint so you can begin cutting the circle out.

Cover with Mod Podge

Place the paper on and paint some more Mod Podge on and let it dry.

Continue on all sides and decorate as you like.

Aren't they darling??!!

Mine will just sit on a shelf in my craft room, but these would look so cute in a baby's room hanging from the ceiling like a mobile (just make sure to hang far enough from the crib that if they fall they won't fall on baby)

Or you could hang like 10 or 15 of them on a wall like a collage (how awesome would that be!)

They could even be good decorations for a baby shower, birthday party or even dressed up elegantly for a wedding:) The possibilities are endless. If you make one send me a pic! I'd love to see how they turn out.

Button tacks

I finally got around to working on my craft room:) yay!! I have been making lots of boards and buying stuff and getting rid of stuff because I couldn't make up my mind on exactly what I wanted to do. Well finally I have made up my mind!! and am for sure sticking with this plan because I am in love with it:)

I am using fun and girly colors like pinks and aquas! using mainly furniture I got off craigslist and doing lots of diy projects and crafts.

Here is the plan I finally settled down with

The desk is one I had just painted a pretty aqua color now:)

I found an armoire off craigslist for only $60.00!! and it's HUGE! perfect for storing all my yarn along with other stuff.

I also got a craft table just like the one pictured off craigslist for $15.00 its a great size all it needs is a little bit of love.

The shelves, side table and adorable pink chairs are all from Ikea (love that place)

The rug I haven't found yet, but I think I am actually going to make that a DIY project by crocheting one for myself. I found a picture on Pinterest and fell in love. I am challenging myself to make it by the end of the year! (wish me luck)

Wouldn't that be pretty in creams, greens and pinks! ahhh <3

So, I tackled my first project tonight. A fabric covered cork board for above my sewing table.

Just bought a plain framed cork board at Hobby Lobby for $20.00 (it was half off)

Then unscrewed the back, covered it with coordinating fabric (using spray adhesive) and re attached the back and frame. It was much better, but still lacking some personality and decided it needed some cute tacks:)

I got some vintage inspired buttons (in a bag and also from Hob Lob)

Snipped off the back little button hook thingy and hot glued a thumbtack to it.

Do as many as you want and let it dry.

Voila instant charm:)

I just love the way they came out.

DIY Fall Wreath

Hello there:)

I have been so busy filling hat orders I haven't had any free time to do anything for my home. So I decided to dress up the front a little for fall, I have found so many fall decor inspirations on Pinterest

After looking at the outrageous prices on some pre made wreaths I decided I would just make my own.

I only buy the fall decor items when they are 40% off!

All you need is a wreath (I got mine for $2.99 at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon)

1 Leaf Garland of your choice $5.99 (with 40%off all fall items)

Mini Pumpkins .88 each (with 40%off all fall items)

Autumn Berries $1.79 each (with 40%off all fall items)

Pine cones Free thanks to my tot and hubby

Wire Ribbon of your choice for bow $4.79 (with 40%off all fall items)

Hot glue gun

Wire cutters

Attach the leaf garland anyway you want (I cut the leafs off and just attached them by their stem)

I then hot glued my pine cones on

Then hot glued the autumn berries

Then attach the mini pumpkins

and make a large bow for the top (I just tied it around the wreath)

Super easy and under $25.00 and I personally think DIY wreaths have much more personality than the store bought ones:)

PS. Don't mind the ugly green, outdated front door! I will definitely be changing that soon;)

I love gold, always have so I am jumping on this bandwagon and putting gold somewhere in my house.
My formal living/dining room seemed to be the best choice to add some glam.
I recently got rid of my wood coffee table that came with a the furniture set I purchased. I didn't like the matchy matchy feeling I got in the room, it was craving for an attention piece. I came across this picture

and right away knew what my room was missing:)
Having a gold and glass coffee table can really add sophistication and glam to a space.
I didn't want to spend a fortune on a table so I turned to craigslist, but I had a very specific piece in mind, something like this

I was so happy when I found this baby!!

the table was pretty similar, so for 35.00 I snatched that deal up real quick! A little rub n buff in antique gold and I now have have perfect coffee table:)

Jaelyn's 1st birthday party

My daughter's first birthday party was a cupcake themed party.

I found some cute cupcake wrapping paper and taped it to the wall for an instant back ground for her 1st birthday photo.

I removed all the furniture from my formal living room and rented some tables and chairs for lots of seating:)

I also made pom poms in different pinks using $1.00 tissue paper from Walmart and hung them from the ceiling. Cute and affordable decorations.

The centerpieces were just Terra Cotta pots from my local craft store filled with pink carnations made to look like cupcakes. Then I found these $1.00 cupcake marshmallow pops I just couldn't pass up!

The banner I made just using coordinating card stock, ribbon, letter stencils and lots and lots of cutting and gluing.

Even the chandy got a little bit of sprucing up with some pink beads:)

I wanted her high chair to be something special for her so I made a tutu for the front of it using tulle and elastic and found a cupcake chair cover from http://www.abcdistributing.com/. I added some balloons and it turned out great!

I made a cupcake using Styrofoam wrapped in ribbon and cake boards top with cupcake wrapping paper. Made a tutu for the bottom tier and added store bought cupcakes.

The goody bags were just simple pink bags and I added a cupcake sticker to go with the theme and also found cupcake tissue paper in the dollar bins at Target.

I knew she would not remember any of her party so I spent as little as I possibly could by doing most of everything myself. It made the party that much more special for me because I knew a lot of heart and love went into it. When I show her pictures in the future I am sure she will appreciate everything I did:)

Party Planning

I suffer from "fundsarelow" disease so planning my little one's birthday parties can be pretty tough. I love throwing parties but with a family of 40 people they can become quite pricey. I have them here at my house for the simple fact that it's free, but it can get crowded really fast. I think next year I will be having my daughter's birthday at the park. She LOVES Spongebob right now so I am planning on having her a "Spongebob in a tutu" themed birthday party. There was an episode where Spongebob and Patrick visited a new toy store that just opened up. Spongebob tried on a tutu and Patrick asked him, "Spongebob, why are you wearing a tutu?" Spongebob replied, "It's not a tutu, Patrick, It's a mantu. With extra support." I felt that having a little girly girl, who loves the color pink, it was appropriate to go with that theme. Here are a few tips to keep birthday parties cute and with a tight budget.

Invites: Make your own!! they almost always get thrown away so might as well make them as super cheap as you can. Noone will care! I admit I don't save invites unless there is a photo of the birthday person.

You can make some cute ones with cardstock and your own computer just be creative:)

Food: For my daughter's birthday we will just grill hamburgers and hotdogs (Krabby Patties and Salty Dogs) it goes so well with the theme.

Decoration: I like to go through the dollar bins at Target they always have great stuff for decorations or goody bags. The kiddos will be walking away with some cute butterfly nets (jellyfishing nets).

I also like to save money by pairing a theme dessert plate with a regular plate and solid color napkins in your matching party colors.

You can make your own or just buy some from Walmart (only $5.00/dozen) the buttercream ones are really good:)

I started couponing a few months ago to save money so that we can work on redecorating and remodeling our home. I do have to say it is time consuming but totally worth it! I have saved a lot just by clipping coupons and buying only items that are on sale. I always save at least 50-90% on all my grocery bills now:). When it comes to using coupons it is really important to stay 100% organized (which I generally am not) so I have a binder I keep all my coupons in. They are all organized in different categories making it super easy for me to just flip to the coupon I need. Now I love anything that keeps me organized so needless to say I was so excited when I came across this Cute Cart Caddy I just had to try it out.

Beautiful hardwood floors ruined!

My steam mop broke so I had to find an alternative product to clean my floors with until I could replace my steam mop. My hubby picked up some Orange Glo after watching a commercial on the product and this is how my floors turned out.

It left a milky white film all over my floors and it's impossible to get off. Any advice is accepted!

My not even a year old beautiful hardwood floors are ruined and I am pissed!! Thank you Orange Glo! I will be contacting you in the morning as soon as your office is open.

Craigslist find

I was looking for a computer armoire for our family room re do that would house our home computer, xbox, ps3, and printer. I was ecstatic when I came across a piece on Craigslist for just $75.00 and it was exactly what I was looking for:) I <3 Craiglist!!

It has lots of room for everything and even my 2 year old enjoys hiding in it:)

It came with an unexpected bonus! 2 cork board pieces on the inside of each door.

They were in good condition and I love the functionality of having cork board right next to where you sit. I'm going to be painting the computer armoire a creamy white to match my kitchen cabinets (which I will be painting soon also so keep an eye out for that post). I had some extra fabric left over from the pillows I made for the room so I decided to use that to take the cork board up a notch:)

I cut the fabric to size (make sure you leave enough hang on all sides to wrap around so there's no edge showing) and using a spray adhesive I sprayed the cork board and covered the board in the fabric. Caution: Do this outside because spray adhesive stinks and can get everything super sticky!!

Then simply hot glue all sides down on back to create a nice edge all around.

There you have it! It looks much better and now coordinates with the room and its a super easy diy project to dress up that boring cork board and you could even add nail head trim or ribbon:)

Dyeing curtains

Found some gorgeous curtain panels from World Market for my family room re-do but at $26.00/panel and me being on a tight budget they were far out of my reach.

I looked everywhere else I could think of to find a cheaper version but had no luck at all. I already had some tan linen curtains I had bought at Target a while back at $9.99 for 2 panels. So I decided I would just dye them myself! I have never worked with dye on such a big project so I was a little apprehensive but I am so glad I did:)

Equipt with some Rit dye in teal and my washing machine I very carefully followed the directions on the back (sorry I didn't take pictures of the process, I was too scared of making a big ole mess) and transformed my blah beige curtains into exactly what I wanted!

There was no color variation at all so I am very pleased with how easy and incredible these curatins came out. :)

Craft Room

I posted an inspiration board of my craft room a while ago but since then have changed my mind on the route I want to go. I wanted to create something fun and girly for me. A place that I can escape to and enjoy being surrounded by something feminine and relaxing. Enter in the color pink:) If I had it my way every room in my house would have the color pink in it, but since I have a manly man hubby that has friends over often I am limited to my daughter's bedroom and the playroom. Both of those rooms aren't rooms that I can sit in, relax, read or stimulate my creativity. So I have chosen to go with pinks in my craft room instead of turquoise!

Here is the inspiration board I have come up with:

I am sure a few things will change when I begin to redecorate. I can't help it... I am an indecisive person:)

Oh and BTW that fabulous pink chair is only $19.99 at Ikea!!

I will never buy another accent pillow again!!

Why? because they are super duper easy to make and a shmashmillion times cheaper than buying em retail. I should start off by saying I am very new to sewing! My good ole pops bought me a sewing machine a few Christmas' ago and it kind of just sat around until I got the courage to try it out. I never used a sewing machine before except for a one time project, a very long time ago in my home ec class. I googled how to thread it (easy peasy) then practiced sewing my little heart out! I still don't really know how to do anything more than a straight stitch, nor do I know all the ins and outs of my sewing maching, but I sure can sew a mean straight line:)

Anyways, as ya'll know I am redecorating my family room and was in need of accent pillows for my new sectional and chair. Retail pillows are so expensive (especially the ones I like) so I decided to take on the daunting task of making my very own (with zipper closures).

Ambitious? I know!! I wanted to practice first so I picked up some cheap cloth napkins from Target for only 9.99 for a set of 4 (that's 2 pillows).

They are 19x19 which were the perfect size to make a 18x18 pillow cover.

Use a 20x20 pillow insert for 18x18 covers so they are nice and full and won't slouch over time.

Start with right sides facing eachother.

Then measure 2 inches in on both sides (this will create your opening for the zipper).

Sew across to 2 inch marking on both sides creating your opening.

Then open up, press and pin folding the opening to create a hem for the opening.

Sew down the opening.

When you flip it over it will look like the above photo. You have just created you opening for the zipper.

I used an all purpose zipper from Walmart, but you can get them at any craft store.

Now, you are going to mark about half way from the top to the opening on both sides (this is where you will sew your zipper ends).

Again about half way between the top of the napkin hem and the opening you have just created.

Cut to size.

Start by sewing the zipper down on end side of zipper (make sure the slider on the zipper is facing down)

Follow the hem line sewing the zipper all the way down and repeat on other side and at other end

The above photo shows what the zipper should look when all sewed in (notice the slider facing down)

Keeping the zipper opened (so you can flip to the right side when done) and right sides facing eachother sew the remaining 3 sides together following the napkin hem as your 1/2" hem. Flip to the rightside, insert your pillow form and enjoy your new made with love pillow:)

I will create a video soon when I make my new pillows for my brand new sectional and chair:)

Family Room redo

I am currently working on redecorating our "family room" it's a great room so it's connected to the kitchen and dining area also. It is a pretty large space with a corner fireplace so the layout is pretty funky! Here are

It's been almost a week since I last posted (sorry bout that). I've been working on my craft/guest room so I have been consumed with prepping, painting, cleaning and organizing. I'm slowly getting to the fun stuff, the decorating, the part where it all starts coming together and then I get to step back and be proud:) Tomorrow I'm gonna stop by Good Will to see if I can find some little treasures for me to transform! I need some lamps and a chair for my desk (wish me luck). I love giving things new life and I love the fact that it cost little to nothing:) My kind of shopping!!

Changing the subject now! My Great Grandfather turned 84 today so we had a little family get together and I of course was in charge of the dessert. I love baking and dream of one day opening my very own cupcake shop. I have these cupcakes that I make (Strawberry filled vanilla cupcakes with butter cream icing) they are my signature cupcake, my family goes crazy for them. I normally make my vanilla cupcakes from scratch and make my own strawberry filling but I needed an easier recipe for those days that I don't have alot of time to slave over the stove! So.........

with a regular box of golden vanilla cake mix and

canned strawberry pie filling/topping I was able to make some fast and very SCRUMPTIOUS vanilla strawberry filled cupcakes!! mmmm.....

Bake the cupcakes, let them cool and then hollow the center out with an apple corer

Then fill a disposable pastry bag with the filling

Cut the tip big enough for the filling to come out but small enough for it to fit in the hole.

Then fill em up:)

Last just frost em with some vanilla buttercream or you can even use the store bought kind.

I make my own:

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

1tsp vanilla

Mix together

Then add 4 cups of confectioners sugar (1 cup at a time) and 4tbs of milk

Mix until fluffy

Bon appetit:)

DIY Sunburst mirror

I wanted to try this super cute and awesome diy sunburst mirror for my craft room. I bought the stuff for it; shims (3.49) mirror (3.99) liquid nails (2.49) wood circle baking from Hobby Lobby (.99) and a tester paint in a robin egg blue. I was so stoked to begin working on this project!

I let it cure for almost 2 days (to be sure) not touching, moving it or adjusting it at all. So to my surprise when I picked it up to put the hook on the back for hanging, ALL the shims on the mirror fell to the floor:( I have no idea why it didn't work for me but I followed every direction to the T!!! I then tried to use gorilla glue, let it sit for a day, didn't work. I then tried silicone (since its for mirrors), let it sit, didn't work:( I finally just called Lowes and asked what glue I should use to glue wood to a mirror. They informed me that liquid nails makes a specific glue for mirrors and that should work! By that time I was too frustrated to go to the store buy the glue and come home and work on it lol!! So... if your going to do this project you now know use liquid nails that's made for mirrors:) The regular heavy duty liquid nails works on gluing the shims to the wood and the mirror to the shims. Good luck

Tray

When my hubby gets home from work he has the same routine. Throw his keys, wallet, glasses, cuffs and badge on the counter. Then puts his gun belt in a safe place and goes to the bedroom to change. With the exception of his gun belt he is constantly "misplacing" the items above (could it be that they are carelessly tossed on the counter) and we spend endless hours looking for his stuff only to find that our 2 year old has put them in a safe place of her own:). Cute storage to the rescue! I found some trays in dollar bin at Target that were the perfect size. I initially used them for my daughter's playroom to house small coloring books, dress up tiaras and headbands and TV, DVD and cable remotes. I figured I could just pick up some more for around the rest of the house since they are only 2.50 each but they are pink and green so in comes the paint:)

Its really simple... just give a little sand, prime and paint it the color or your choice. The brown/black one is for my hubby to put his stuff in... now no more looking for lost keys!

This one got a coat of white paint for my desk in my craft room. I lined the bottom with scrapbook paper and Modge Podge to give it a little bit of personality:)

All better:)

Feeling much better... got sick with whatever was going around YUCK!! but thanks to much R&R we are feeling much better.

I started working on a new project lastnight for my craft room. I needed something to hang above the sofa but didn't want to spend a fortune. I really like the way starburst and sunburst mirrors look so I am going to do a DIY one and hope that it turns out awesome!! It involves using shims:)

I won't be on for a couple of days... my daughter woke up with a fever this morning so I will be catering to her needs till she is better.. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Happy St. Patty's Day everyone! Sharing with you today my very own green room. This is my formal living/dining room I love the color green it's such a refreshing color. If you want a relaxing retreat the color green is the way to go!

The little green pillow from Pier One was the inspiration for the whole room.

I got these candlesticks from a garage sale for $1.00 each they were a buttery yellow. A can of silver spray paint gave them a new life:)

I found this Horchow inspired mirror from Garden Ridge it was a med brown wood. A little bit of rub n buff transformed it and now it fits the space perfectly!
