That's right, Dom and I are trading the red paperclip house. With who? For what? Well that's where things get interesting:

We have no idea yet.

I'm not looking for anything in particular in exchange for the house, other than maybe several 1990 Burgundy Dodge Caravana with low miles. That aside, it would be great to trade with somebody who:

-Plans to live or operate a business in the house.
-Understands the house is a tourist attraction in Kipling, and important to the community.
-Also, if you know who these guys are, it will come in handy in a tie-breaker situation. -- Watch this video!.

So I wound up in France on TV to promote the release of the french version of the one red paperclip book, which is called "un trombone rouge." The producers weren't comfortable with my learned-while-drinking-with-friends anglo-quebecois french, so they opted for the live french dub. The effect makes it pretty much impossible to understand what's going on, although my comprehension of french isn't exactly 100%, but the monsieur who did the live voice over has a very nice accent. Highlights of this video include the seemingly rude phenomenon of a guy answering live questions on french TV in english, sharing the stage with Jean Claude Van Damme, and giving the "who are these guys" guys not one, but two plugs. How sweet would it be if Jean Claude Van Damme starred in the one red paperclip movie, and those guys were the bad guys?

I was invited to be a panelist at ROFLCon in Boston over the weekend. I met many people, some of whom are quite well known for internet fame, and such. It was enjoyable. You can read some of the things our panel said here. There's talk of there being another ROFLCon next year too. You should attend. It is fun. Also, Denny Blaze the Average Homeboy will autograph the back of your driver's license if you ask him nicely.

Sean Aiken the "one week job" guy'll be at the Inlet Theatre on Wednesday too.

That's a legit way to use an apostrophe right?: guy'll. Punctuation can be so interesting. Anyhow, Sean Aiken, the bloke who worked a different job every week for a year will be at the Inlet Theatre this Wednesday April 16 to talk about what it was like to work 52 different jobs in a year. Word on the street is that he might show some videos and such. I'm a huge fan of his project and can't wait to see what he's got to say. Not sure if he's going to bring that drum set, but I'm sure you can email him and put in a special request.

I'm speaking at the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody B.C. Wednesday April 16

I'll be doing a nifty little slideshow presentation about one red paperclip at the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody Wednesday April 16 as a benefit for Crossroads Hospice. Crossroads is a an association close to our heart, as our Grandma was a beneficiary of their wonderful care. Also, the fact that legendary Vancouver anchorman Tony Parsons is involved with Crossroads sealed the deal. The presentation will run about an hour, there'll be some time for Q and A's and such afterwards. My mom will be hawking copies of one red paperclip, the book, so it'll be the perfect time to buy a copy of the book from the same person who cuts my hair. After that we can probably spill out of the theatre across the street to the St. James Well, as you do.

So awhile back I was in a book store and I decided to leaf through the Guinness Book of World Records, as you do, and came across a fun little fact:

I am now the holder of a world record.

Yep, the Most Successful Internet Trade. A category I never knew existed, and I'm quite certain, never did. That's right, a brand new category. So I win by default. Which is still pretty cool. Let's get serious for a second here, it's not like trading red paperclips for houses is as established of a pastime as eating airplanes or growing cabbages.

I wonder if I'll get a certificate or a blue ribbon for this record. Maybe there'll even be a trophy! Imagine what that might look like.

Wow, I actually just noticed the Guinness Record Book has GLOW-IN-THE-DARK features! I have no idea what that means, but if it means an easier time reading about wonderful and amazing world records, in the dark, then I'm all about it. K, gotta go now. Gonna read the book. In the dark.

I can't fully explain how cool I think The 1 Second Film is. You can produce a Hollywood movie for a dollar, and be listed in the credits with some pretty heavy hitters. Sure, it's only 1 second long, but the documentary about the making of The 1 Second Film is going to run about 90 minutes, and play while all the producer credits roll up the screen. There's currently 8150 or so procucers of the film, and Nirvan Mullick, the driving force behind the whole thing is shooting to raise 1 million and 1 dollars. Become a producer! I am! It's tons of fun.

I can't wait to see what Oprah does.

Oh! Don't forget to tell Oprah they're coming!

When I was a kid, or tyke perhaps, all I ever read was The Guinness Book of World Records and the Ripley's Believe it or Not! books. I liked facts and random stuff. A lot. I can pretty much still recite every record from the '88 world record book. Well, not really. But I liked it.

Just before I get to do a fun little chit chat on air, it looks like some trades are going to take place in front the studio in Rockefeller Plaza. Facts:

-The French version of the one red paperclip book is called: Un Trombone Rouge
-It is a very nice book
-This guy published it.
-He's a great guy.
-The book will be released in Quebec on Friday Aug 17.
-You can bid on a special autographed copy of Un Trombone Rouge here.
-This is the video I just made for the auction.
-All the money raised for the auction will go to L'hopital Ste Justine, Montreal's children's hospital.
-Which is really awesome.

-I spoke French in the video.
-Most people in Quebec speak French.
-This guy also speaks Hanglish.
-If you're the highest bidder for the auction, I'll guarantee to meet you in person on Monday Aug 20 and we can "trade".
-Unless you provide a private jet, then the trade-in-person guarantee only applies to the Greater Montreal Area.

The World's Largest Red Paperclip!

That'sa, biga, reda, paper-clip, huh?

Measurements were taken on the spot for the Guinness World Record bid, and Kipling is now home to a red paperclip that is:

15 feet, 2 inches long
39 inches wide
Is constructed of 5 inch diameter solid steel
Weighs just shy of 4000 pounds
And holds paper! (And mounties.)

Word on the street is that Dubai was home to the previous world's largest paperclip. I think it's probably a good idea for Kipling to instigate a paperclip-off with Dubai, seeing that Kipling could also one day turn into a burgeoning trading metropolis overseen by billionaires hellbent on breaking every standing world record ever created. One day. Maybe.

So, I guess I need to say, bring it on Dubai!

Kipling's giant red paperclip is located just behind 503 Main Street in Bell Park, and can be enjoyed by children of all ages. (And Mounties) So swing on by!

In Dublin right now. Lots of Guinesses last night. Doing heaps of radio and TV interviews over here today. Gonna trade Judy on Gerry Ryan's show. The digital readout in the cab this morning said Coyle Mc Donald. So that was fun. Word around town is that yesterday a dinghy full of cocaine washed up on shore, the police confiscated it, and now Paddy Power is taking bets on the actual street value of the drugs. Kinda hard not to be excited about being in a place where that sort of thing's going on. Going to the park now to look for shamrocks.

I just made a deal with Richard and Judy. We're going to make a trade! My copy of one red paperclip, the book, for their Replica 1870 London Metropolitan Police Whistle.

Yes, a very sweet trade. But wait, there's more!

I'd like to trade Richard and Judy's whistle for something bigger and better! With you! The plan is to meet up in central London on Monday July 2 at 3pm. Not sure of the exact location yet, but probably somewhere like Covent Garden, or a very public place full of tourists like yours truly. Yep, I'm taking it to the streets. Apparently, in order to secure the record for the world's largest paperclip, Kipling's giant red paperclip must be a functional red paperclip. It has to hold paper. So now we gotta get a sheet of really big paper to seal the deal. Sorry, make that two sheets of really big paper!

I'm going to London!

Yep, Jolly Ole itself! July 2 - 8th...ish. And I'm bringing those pants. Maybe I'll give them to somebody in England who'll really like them. Maybe the Queen! Yes, How awesome will that be if the Queen wore those pants? Maybe for a jubilee of some sort. Yes, that's it. The Queen in Union Jack pants that have actually been to Kipling...for a jubilee!

Also (and I apologize to all Irish people for the pants), I'll be in Dublin the night of July 5 and almost all day July 6 doing fun radio and TV book promo and such.

That's right, one red paperclip, the book, will be released in Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland on June 28. (It'll be out on Aug 21 in the States and Canada...and pretty much everywhere else. But you can still pre-order here too! Or just check out this picture of a horse!)

And while in England, I plan to do even more than just take my shirt off and jump in the air with my favorite pair of Union Jack pants! Yep, I'll be on Richard and Judy on July 3rd! Maybe after the show, or the following day, we can meet up in a park, or a pub, and trade stuff. Are there any good parks or pubs in London?
