DIY Round Rope Mirror

So lately I have seen so many of these round hanging mirrors using either rope or leather to hang them, so when I stumbled across this round clock in bed, bath and beyond with it's gorgeous wide plywood framing for only $17, I instantly thought this would be the perfect foundation for my own DIY version.

This was the easiest project to undertake (with the help of my lovely partner, and master of powertools) it seriously only took about 10 minutes to put together and a total cost of about $60

Materials Needed:
x1 Clock from Bed, Bath and Beyond / This was on sale for about $17
x2 handles / brought from Bunning Hardware store $5 each
x1 round mirror / made to measure from my local glass shop $15
Thick rope / I brought 2 metres from Bunnings Hardware for about $3.60per metre and probably only used about 1.5 metres
x1 your choice of hook to hang mirror from / I purchased a wooden knob from General Electric $11
x1 power drill or hand screw driver

This was the original clock brought, I took it into my local glass shop where they measured the back of the clock from edge to edge and cut a mirror to fit.

Then it was off to my local Bunnings Hardware store to get rope and some kind of handles or clips to hang the rope from, I ended up getting vintage style door handles/pulls for about $5each.

The next few steps involved unscrewing the small closures on the back of the clock which kept the clock face in place then carefully inserting the newly cut mirror inside the frame then screwing the closures back into the framing to secure the mirror in place. From there it was just a matter of finding the right height for the handles (we ended up going just above half way) to go on the outer part of the frame (the frame was wide enough so that when we drilled holes for the handles it did not drill through into the mirror as the mirror sat towards the front edge of the framing) Once the handles were drilled in and secure we just tied the rope around each one and it was all done! easy as that!

Building Progress - Part 3

Well howdy folks,

It's been awhile since the last update but life is rather hectic with work and a 21 month old.
Building progress it slowly coming along, thought I should do another little photo montage of what's been happening. We have the interior walls all painted, and who would of thought it would be so hard to choose white paint, we ended up settling on Dulux Wairakei Half, seriously didn't think there would be so many 'whites' to choose from, this colour runs throughout the whole house except for the bathroom where we have used, Dulux Lakeside.

Along with the painting finished we have our $800 kitchen installed, yes that's right, 800 buckroos! that's not including our gorgeous wooden bench tops from Bunnings which where $99 each and our big beautiful freestanding oven we scored for $1000 via trademe. The fire is all ready and waiting for it's first fire... let's hope the need for that isn't for a few more months though, not quite ready for Summer to be over just yet. The bathroom is pretty much the only finished room in the place, just tapware and toilet to be installed (photos to come).

Now the big decision is what to do about flooring, currently the flooring is plywood, we have plywood on the ceiling which we are keeping as a feature so I really want to break up the wood and whitewash it. I have already trialed a wood stain in 'driftwood' colour which I'm not 100% certain on, the other half want's black floors, but I just don't think I can live with dark floors, especially with a young child and a dog, can you imagine the marks that would show!

I've decided to gather up a few of my favourite images on pinterest to create a moodboard for the shed. I think it's fair to say it's a mix of rustic industrial with a hint of cottage charm.

Windows are going in this week after being delayed by 2 weeks... and we have stairs, the most amazing stairs ever! I'm totally in love with them, photos to come.

Building Progress - Part 2 - We have a roof and walls

Well, we finally have a roof on and walls, the shed is finally looking like it could be liveable.

Below are a few pics of the progress that has been made over the past few weeks. Windows will be in early next week.

Now the fun stuff can begin...bathroom and kitchen planning and fit-out, yay!

Building Progress: Part 1

A few photos snapped over the past couple of months of the sheds progress.

I probably should give you a little background info on our property where this shed is being built. We have 5 acres of land hidden down a very long driveway pretty much in the middle of town, we are extremely lucky to have scored this section a few years ago and it's taken lot's of hours and man power to get it to where it is today, just think overgrown and swampy! but we could see the potential amongst all the long grass, it truly is a little piece of paradise!

We have actually done a little more since the last photo was taken, the second story floor has gone down and the framing has been constructed and is waiting to go up.

a fresh new look and a new name

As you can probably already see there is a few new changes happening on the blog, a fresh new design and layout and also a new name.

Missprint Design is now One Red Shed.

This has been something that I have wanted to do for a very long time and since starting up another business in vintage hire along with my already existing stationery/art business I thought I needed to combine the two under one blog. I also want to blog more on building our new house/red shed so this is really a combined blog of all the three things that consume my daily life really.

So I hope you all stay around and see all the new adventures that are planned for the near future.

Well it's been a very long time since my last post, but I have a good excuse... a nearly 5 month old is keeping me very busy and time for blogging has gone out the window.

On May 4th, 2013, we welcomed into the world a beautiful boy, Jed Levi Bullock at 8lbs and 52cm. I'm glad he decided to arrive early ( 2 weeks before his due date) as I would hate to think how big he would have been at full term.

So, my days are now filled up with nurturing my little bubs and also working in between his nap times, and then there is all the other stuff that comes with being a full time working/housewife/mumma, it is very busy and tiring but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Getting Ready for a BIG 2013!

I'm back! sorry it's been a long wait between posts, but the end of 2012 got rather busy with work and the Christmas break and all of a sudden January is nearly over.

Well 2013 is going to be a big one for Missprint, the below photo will explain it all.

that's right, we are going to be welcoming a little bubba into the world in May.

Pretty exciting times in this household, this year also brings along a shed/house build on the 5 acres of land we own, were hoping to have it completed by the end of the year. So with all the goings on, the blog will be taking a few new directions with blog posts containing nursery and house planning inspirations and updates. I'll still be posting about weddings and all thing design so I hope ya stick around for the ride.

Friday Favourites -DIY Pendant Light

Happy Friday! I know I've posted a few times on DIY lights here and here but this one is even bigger and better and all you'll need is an exercise ball, string, vaseline and fabric stiffener such as mod podge. To buy something like this will cost hundreds of dollars, for this project it will be well under $100. I've checked out a few online tutorials on making this light and each one seems to use different materials to harden the string, so if you have either fabric stiffener, mod podge or wallpaper paste you should be fine, I think I will be making my own mod podge and using that. apples, apples, apples! that has been the scene in my house lately.

I am in the middle of producing our annual apple cider harvest, yummo! I use the easiest recipe and all it uses is apples, water, sugar and lemons. I am needing to create some fun labels for our bottles so will keep you posted on that. So with apple overload in my house why not create a style board featuring these little beauties.

now lets get onto the serious business of office space! for the past two years I have been working out of the tiniest of spaces, actually our old laundry/washroom a size of 1.2 x 2.5m, this is mainly where I design and do paper work when it comes to cutting and packaging jobs the good ol' kitchen table does the trick. But it is now time to seriously think of a bigger work space. Now, we only have a small 2bdrm house so I can either take over the 2nd bedroom which is currently a guest room or make our small but bright and warm conservatory a new office space. I don't know which option is going to be the best but I will be keeping you posted, and to give you some ideas on my dream office space have a look at these I found while pouring through all the pinterest pic's.

Hi all, Happy New Year and all that.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday.

I know I have been missing in action for a few weeks now but I have been super busy working on some new wedding invitation designs and getting my self ready and organized for a productive 2012. This year I have decided it's time to get some organization in my work and home life, so this year should run smoothly... fingers crossed. I have been scanning the world wide web for lots of inspiration in storage and organizing solutions so I hope to put these in place very soon... wish me luck.
