16 Provinces for 2nd One Visayas Celebration

The province of Capiz will host the gathering of 16 provinces from the islands of Visayas to showcase their distinct arts, history, culture and festivals.

On its second year, the One Visayas Celebration, will gather the best of the best from Eastern, Central and Western Visayas as a follow up of its successful staging in Cebu City last year.

The celebration with a theme "Heroes and Nationalism" will be featuring songs, dances, theater, arts and culture, foods and products of participating provinces.

The four day summit that will kick off on March 11 will be capped by a One Visayas Summit that focuses on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in promoting and preserving culture, arts and heritage and heroes and distinguish families of the three Visayas regions.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to grace the big celebration.

2nd One Visayas in Capiz

The second One Visayas Culture and Arts Expo will be held in the province of Capiz on March 11-14, 2010. The theme of this year mother of all festivals is "One People, One Destiny".

Capiz Governor Victor Tanco eagerly expressed his intention to host the event last meeting by the joined Regional Development Councils of Regions 6, 7 and 8. Tanco on his letter for Garcia, who is the chairwoman of the Regional Development Committee, that he was so happy that the committee chose Capiz to be the next venue of the event that strengthened the cultural bond between the different provinces in the Visayas region.

An excerpt Gov. Tancos' letter

“For the purpose of not breaking the momentum and spirit brought by the success of the First One Visayas in Cebu, I would like to request you and the members of the RDCom to transfer the celebration in February 2010 (later rescheduled on March) instead of 2011."

The One Visayas project was conceptualized during a recent meeting in Iloilo City of heads of the RDCs of Eastern, Central and Western Visayas.

The “mother of all festivals” allows homegrown talents to perform, demonstrate or talk about the different native, indigenous visual arts, theater, film, architecture, literature and being Visayan. Garcia said the project aims to strengthen the cultural bond among the different islands in the region.

The blog One Visayas http://onevisayas.blogspot.com is an online promotional contribution of a blogger from Capiz. I am not connected to any tourism offices, just a proud blogger and a Capizeño who wants to promote the Cultural and Art event in the online world. The blog is open to any articles you want to post related to the event.

I created the blog in relation to the One Visayas Expo which will be held in Capiz on March 11-14, 2010. I am very amazed with the purpose of the event which brings nearly 20 provinces in the whole Visayas in one location to showcase their cultures, arts and products. One of a kind assembly of the three regions in the country.

I salute Cebu Lady Governor Wendolyn Garcia, the creator of the One Visayas Event for her ideas and initiatives of closing the gap among Visayan provinces and making the event as a tool of bringing more tourism to the region.
