Whenever I heard the word "Seattle", the dancing lady Space Needle, the lovely symbol of Seattle comes in the memory. This beautiful lollipop-shaped icon represents motivation, love, pride, and people's innovation. I have visited Seattle three times so far, every-time this slim, three legged dancer amused me. I roamed around the places and adored the beauty of Space Needle from different part of Seattle from time to time. I have more than 500 photos of Space Needle from different angels in different seasons. Hence, the post is named as "Colors of Seattle Space Needle".

During my latest visit, Space Needle celebrated its 50 years [April 1962 - 2012], that makes this post even more special. Originally it was built as a tourist attraction for city's 1962 World's Fair. The needle repainted to Galaxy gold at the top on its 50th birthday. I just enjoyed the natural views and bright emerald city lights from the top of the needle.

When you are in, and up, enjoy the 360 degree observation deck. From this point, You can photoshooot the Downtown Seattle skyline with running vehicle over the streets. You can also get the glimpse of Mount Rainier, Olympic and Cascade Mountains, Mount Baker, Elliott Bay and surrounding islands. SkyCity, 360 degree revolving restaurant makes the landmark more special. This is the perfect place for dating, marriage proposal, reception, wedding of your lifetime memory.

On my last visit, I toured, Tillicum village, Blake Island. This landmark was simply looking amazing during evening. The fountain place near Key Arena, is just another routine place to visit, from where you can adore the iconic beauty of Space Needle.

Before this, in 2009, i.e. at my very first visit to Seattle, I was lucky to attend the Midnight fireworks celebration on the New Year's eve. This was an unforgettable experience when the fireworks were in sync with the music and rain. Lock cruise tour during the dusk along-with the Seattle skyline's panoramic view, was another opportunity for admiring this masterpiece. You be at 1st avenue, 2nd avenue or any other avenue or street in Seattle, Your eyes will kiss this icon.

A sunny day in San Juan Island

Do you know, San Juan island pop up again and again in "top 10" lists and "Places to visit before you die" lists.

We reached to Friday Harbor (San Juan Island) from Anacortes, by Washington state ferry. Distinguished as one of the best places in America. San Juan Islands are primarily famous for sea kayaking and orca whale-watching among visitors. But half the fun is the tracing the island beautiful cuves by the car or some part by the bicycle. It is quite easy to cover all the main points of the island in a day. We covered (*marked*) island's circumference going through the main points. It would be easy to cover the points in below order or reverse.

*Friday Harbor*: We just roam around few roads on this tiny island, and finalized the selected places to cover for the day, as we have to catchup the return ferry to Anacortes. We followed the Roche Harbor road.

San Juan Vineyards: Beautiful grapes grown can be enjoyed here. There is also wonderful wine, tasting room, and gift shop. Just a fe mile away, enjoy the Lakedale Resort famous for camping, fishing, lodging, and swimming.

*Roche Harbor*: This is a beautiful place, having facilities like spa, restaurants, tennis courts. You can also enjoy the trails (The Quarries) in this area. While being at the top, panoramic view of the marina and Victorian garden can be adored. Nearby Westcott Bay sculpture park is just a walk away. Just near this point, helicopter ride also avail across the San Juan Island.

*English Camp*: This is another adorable place operated by the national park services. This is a nice place to relax and enjoy walks, and lovely scenery. You can hike up the Mt. Young hill for amazing views of the San Juan.

*Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm*: The rare and charming Alpaca animal of Camelid family can be seen here. Alpaca are prized for their luxurious and costly fiber which is harvested by shearing once a year.

*Pelindaba Lavender Farm*: After that we followed West Valley, and Boyce Road respectively. After some distance you can find Lavender farm fragrant walks through the lavender fields on the roadside with the eye-catching views. At the place, It seems that their owner can enjoy a cup of coffee in a sunny day.

San Juan County Park: The place has easy access to other islands, and sea, views to Canada, and a lucky chance to see marine mammals.

*Lime Kiln Point State Park*: This is a must visit place in San Juan Island, with stunning sea views, picnic spot, trail system. A tiny lighthouse adds beauty to this place, that just stand still near the seashores. The place offers the high chances to see the marine mammals at this place, if you have some patience to wait for that moment.

False Bay: The place offers nice views, fun walks at low tide, great birding.

American Camp: It is also operated by National park services. There are miles of beach, nice picnic spots, and extensive trail system.

*Forth of July and South Beach*: If you are going to the tail part of the San Juan, Cattle Point, you can enjoy spectacular views of forth of July beach at one side, and South Beach at the other. Both the beaches offer picnic spots, easy walks, and great ocean views. We enjoyed stone floating and long distance stone throwing in the sea.

*Cattle Point Lighthouse*: This is another must to see point in San Juan Island. Just before reaching this place, The view of roads going to sea-way and lighthouse touching the sky is really amazing. We just had a snap of ours lying on the roads.

Don't be surprise if deer jump here and there on the road at random places, as we found two :) At the end we return back to Friday harbor, and return to Anacortes followed by Seattle. The one day journey ends with a costly affair of Pizza while returning.

Anacortes - San Juan (Friday Harbor) Ferry

Here I go, Once again in Seattle! In the month of April, on a weekend I join the group of entertaining friends Kapil, Anil, Munish, and Anvay. Alarm clock rang in the early morning, and I snoozed it as usual, after that I got ready and had some american breakfast before the friends pick me up from hotel.

We have to catch up the ferry from Anacortes to San Juan Island. Usually 60 minutes prior to arrival is recommended for vehicle sailing. As we were driving from Seattle, we have to accomplish a herculian task to get the last vehicle ship that departs from Anacortes at 9:30 a.m. We were just in time, and got entry before 10 mins and our car was the second last to park in the ship. [Luckily allowed and have space]

Note: The benefit of taking ferry from Anacortes is that you can carry your own vehicle to roam around at the island, It is not just the passenger ferry. Though you can walk on with or without a bicycle, or bike, or drive your car on. The approximate price for car and driver is about $50 (round trip), passengers extra [At the time we go]. Take I-5 North through Everett and Mount Vernon [64 Miles]
Take exit 230 (Burlington/Anacortes)
At the first light, turn left toward Anacortes onto Highway 20W
Follow Highway 20W to Anacortes [12 Miles]
Once you reach Anacortes merge into the traffic circle and take a right onto Commercial Avenue to reach the central business district.
Take a left at 12th St, where signage points you to the ferry, and follow signs to the ferry terminal (about 2 miles).

Anacortes rests on the waters of the Pacific Ocean on beautiful Fidalgo Island.
The Washington state ferry started on time, and we were just taking snaps from all levels of the ship, and from all sides. Within 15 mins of ferry ride, the sun started following us, and make our day as a whole. The snap below reminds me of the movie Titanic. Throughout 90 minutes, We enjoyed the jaw-dropping, scenic cruise to San Juan Friday Harbor. San Juan Islands are 172 islands in the archipelago. In our route we adored some of these islands curves. Some are quite hilly with some flat areas and valleys, often quite fertile in between. The coastlines were the mix of rocky, pebble and sandy beaches, shallow and deep harbors, placid and reef-studded bays. Once ferry reached at the Friday Harbor, we ride on our car and leave the ferry, and just scale the main points of the San Juan island throughout the day.

8 musketeers at Panchgani

If Mahabaleshwar is known as 'The Grand Canyon of India', then No doubt Panchgani is 'The Switzerland of India'. Panchgani refers to 'Five hills of Sahyadri' which are 'Larger extension of table land'. Another explanation to it - five villages around the Pachgani named as, Dandeghar, Khingar, Godwali, Amral and Taighat. The magnificent views of the backwaters of Dhom Dam can be adored along the whole nothern ridge of the mountains. Other than that picturesque scenary of Krishna valley with cultivated green fields, numerous hamlets over the mountain make this more special. Panchgani is also well known for its number of schools, and sanitariums.

Panchgani can be visited throughout the year, however it rains heavily during the monsoons. The best time to visit is from September to March. Our curvaceous route for the day from Pune was: Magarpatta - Katraj (Snake Park, Pune) - Pune Banglore Highway (NH4) - Wai - Panchgani - Mahabaleshwar - Tapola [Reverse in return while boating at Venna lake]

This time, In our group we had Tarachand, Komal, Sonal, Rajesh, Mausmi, Gyan, Meenal and not to mention me. We enjoyed the sunrise in the early morning with breakfast. Everyone had got some or the other yummy stuff with them.

Tourist Points at Panchgani:

Harrison Folly: We had our first break of the day at this point. It was a very large table land, where your shadow will follow you in different directions. We enjoyed good view point with Panchgani on one side and Wai on the other. This point wouldn't disappoint you. Sometimes Paragliding activity also organised from here by private enthusiasts.

Sydney Point: One funny incident happen as we took wrong turn, and reached a 'Flies point - Makkhi point' 'The garbage point', :P where none of us was able to breathe. All of a sudden many flies were inside the Tavera as someone kept the window open for a few seconds. At this point, entry fee is charged for entering Panchgani [Per person and for the vehicle] Once at the top of the Sydney point, one can see blue shiny water of the Dhom dam. It is situated on a hilltop facing the Krishna valley. We had some quick clicks at this point.

Parsi Point: We passed through the scenic point situated on the way to Mahabaleshwar, and overviewed the Krishna valley and glittering water of the Dhom Dam. This point is good to visit during monsoon, but still, good to relax and have snacks.

Table Top Point: Panchgani is topped by a volcanic plateau, 'The Table Land' which is the second highest in Asia after the Tibetan plateau. This is the most famous and most visited point in Panchgani. We spent 2-3 hours admiring the beauty of this place. For entertainment one can go for horse riding, Merry-go-round, mini train etc and for food lovers there are quite a few food/chaat stalls. With a couple of games counters, the place took us back to our childhood days of being at Fun-Fairs.

We opted for horse-cart as sun was at top of us. It charged 300 for 4 sitters that included below points:

Pandav Feet: As per belief, Five heros of the great epic 'The Mahabharat', had cooked here, and left their feet marks.
One Tree Point: Famous shooting point for Indian Movie Songs - precisely the love songs.
Shutting Point: This is the point where you have most panoramic views.
Ganesh Visargen Point: There is small water place at the table top point. This point in major utilised for horse bath.
Pandav Cave (Drop Point): Also known as 'Devil's Kitchen', has a mythology associated with it. It is believed that the Pandavas of the Mahabharat epic had stayed here for a while.

The place had been an important part of many Indian movies - 'Gadar', 'Swadesh', 'Taare Zameen Par', Agent Vinod' to name a few. We also paid a long distant visit to Palankhet, Sydney point, Gliding Point, Five Table land during our horse-cart ride. (If you have ample time, just roam on your own, rather than opting for horse-cart or horse-riding)

Tapola, The mini Kashmir:

The road trip to Tapola was amazing with couple of yards covered by umbrellas of Banyan Trees. The blue water bodies on both sides - Koyna and Solshi rivers made it even more pleasant. The hot Sun didn't let us spend too much of time here and we moved ahead to the next stop...We'll definitely come back sometime again in monsoon.

On our return trip, We covered Lodwick and Elephant head point at Mahabaleshwar. One hour walk in dense forest was awesome. (For info on Mahabaleshwar during monsoon, please visit "Trip to Mahabaleshwar)

An eve at Venna Lake: This was the most entertaining part of the day. All of us were ready to row the boat on our own. We decided not to rent a driver and started rowing ourselves. The naive drivers (i.e. we) were floating it to the un-intensional directions. :P While two were enjoying the driving lessons, others were busy in admiring the beautiful sunset. We struggled for parking the boat back on the shore and took a sigh of relief when were off the boat. We yelled "Bach gayee!!!"

Mapro Garden: The Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar belt is known for its Strawberry Gardens. Situated on the curvaceous roads between Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar, it is easily accessible by buses originating both from Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar. A heaven for tourists hungry for strawberry delicacies as well as factory fresh items like jams, syrups, mock-tails, squashes and confectionery items by Mapro Foods Pvt Ltd. At the tasting counter, you can actually taste the squash of your choice before purchasing it for free. We picked up 'Kesar' flavoured squash, some chocolates and Kachchi kerry.

Oops, how did I forget to mention about the astrologers roaming around. I was always caught up by them as target and got a new name "CHAPTER".

Sunrise at Calangute Beach:

It was quite early in the morning when we rushed for catching the Sun waking up, at Calungute Beach...Meenal was more excited than me. Two of us enjoyed serenity of the morning while the sun rose, and with a cup of tea while playing with shore waves. Ah! What more can we ask for. She clicked some of the best snaps of the day - birds flying towards the sun, me trying to catch the Sun on my palm, my jump into the water etc.

Next destination was South Goa. We had booked for the evening Paradise cruise and we had whole day with us to explore southern part of the tiniest state of India. On our way to Panaji, the first stop was at St. Alex Church, which is just at the first round about turn to Calangute - Panaji way.

Dona Paula - Panaji:

I visited this place again, but this time as a free biker with Meenal, Piyush and Monika. The panoramic view of the huge Ocean and Marmagoa Harbour, makes this place even prettier and hence it is a popular venue for film shoots. All this while, the sun was at its best. To beat the heat, we helped ourselves with Kokam juice and moved ahead for our hunt for lunch & our next destination.

Post a good vegetrian lunch, we visited Panaji Police Station - (of-course from outside)

Miramar Beach:

On the banks of the river Mandovi, lies the beutiful Miramar Beach. There are very good facilities for children to play here, the highlight being a giant concrete fish. The place is much suited for people from age groups, For the couples there are many places like "Just for two of us" under the coconut and palm tree, walk along the beach hand in hand. For the groups 'to play at the ground lying between the road and the beach. For individual 'just to relax and calm' or 'to have eye-tonic' oops. We spent quite enough time here.

Sunset Paradise River cruise along Mandovi River:

We clubbed up with Amit Ladge, Divya, Ravi and others at the cruise entrance. Cruise sailed along the river Mandovi, while we enjoyed the glimpse of Goan culture. We were greeted on Cruise by Goan traditional songs and dance live performances. After that the stage was open for all of us, and we were the first one to rock on the floor. An hour's journey was completed within blink of an eye, with we all dancing, singing and enjoying. It was a totally worth, must-enjoy experience, just INR 150.

'Mae De Deus' church, Saligao:

While coming back from Panaji, we saw divine lights, that was coming from 'Mae De Deus' church at Saligao. We stopped here for some time, and clicked some pics in yellow and orange lights. After seeing this church, You can say that beautiful churches are not only in Europe, but in Goa as well. It looks simply magnificent at night. It enshrines the statue of Mae de Deus the literal translation of which is 'Mother of God'.

If you are idle on one of the evenings in Goa, and interested in visiting exquisite church, then visit the Mae De Deus church during night and enjoy the spectacular views of the awe-inspiring structure.

Mackie’s Saturday night market:

For Mackie’s Saturday night market, you have to follow Calangute - Anjana road. *** Open from November till April, unmissable, every Saturday 6.00 p.m. onwards. *** This market is very famous among foreign tourist birds. Here you can see different kind of bric-a-brac, clothes, trinkets, exotic delicacies and Goanese Cuisine. You'll see the most outlandish shows and some colorful people from all around the world roaming around with a drink in one hand and a shopping list in the other! If you want to buy something from this Saturday night market, then be prepared to bargain hard. There is also a stage for spectacular performances like, acrobats, fire dancer/ Jugglers, Oriental belly dancers and many more.

Timings: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

It was morning 8:30 am when we were on our way to Aguada fort. As the clocked ticked 9, there we were, standing at the entrance of the huge Fort Aguada and its lighthouse. It is a well-preserved seventeenth-century Portuguese fort standing on Sinquerim beach. Earlier, it was a reference point for the vessels coming from Europe. A freshwater spring within the fort provided water supply to the ships that used to stop-by. That's how the fort got its name: Aguada (Portuguese for water). A four-storey Portuguese lighthouse, is the oldest of its kind in Asia. A part of the fort is converted to central Jail.

That was from history; let's not get into much of it. If you want to get a feel of ancient forts in Goa which represent strength and beauty, Aguada fort is your destination. It is worth a quick visit with its superb panoramic sea-view. The enormous fort envelops the entire peninsula at the south western tip of Bardez. Best time to visit this place is early in the morning. Outside the main entry point, you can see a small market of souvenirs and snacks.

While returning we did a small hop-over at 'St. Anthony Chapel'. (Ofcourse for clicking some pics) and, this was the end of our "Trip to Go A". With our bags packed we headed back to Pune from Vasco-Da-Gama via train. Must not miss on mentioning about our fun-filled train journey; when we spent most of time playing, Tombola/Bingo, UNO, playing cards (Teen Patti -Poker with 3 cards).

What you can bring from Goa apart from beautiful memories - Please don't forget to purchase dry fruits, chunky jewelry, country made liquor, eatables, Goan feni, ethnic handicrafts, traditional Goan clothes etc etc etc...

Yo!!!!!!!!!!! Go went gone to Goa ....

Year 2012, and here we are again back to Goa... Another memorable trip with the Amdocs Team... Goa express at 4:20 PM again but with couple of new add-ons and special one "Meenal"... With all fun, masti and a quick nap, we said a Good Morning to Goa at 5:30 AM. Then it was quick one hour trip to Delta Residency near Calangute Beach, with all asleep during the journey... Zzz. Once at Delta, we were free birds to explore the beauty of Goa on bikes.

Day 1: North Goa - Calangute Beach, Dolphin Trip, An eve at Bagha Beach

A rushed breakfast and we were on our Aviator off to Calangute Beach. *** Best way to enjoy and roam around the Goa "To rent bike or scooty and just take the wheel wherever you want to". *** It was a small amount of INR 250 as rent per day with costly affair of PETROL, i.e. INR 80 per litre.

Dolphin Trip from Calangute Beach:
We started our day with the Calangute beach and booked Dolphin trip on a speedy boat. *** You need to bargain for the charges for Dolphin trip. It's usually INR 1200 per boat for 6 persons. 200 INR per person. ***

Sun was up for the day and the rays were swimming in the silent ocean. It was then, we stole a glance of a beautiful Dolphin. *** If you want to be fortunate of catching a sight of quite a few of them, go early in the morning. *** At one point we saw the huge Aguada fort touching the sea-shore, and the clean Candolim as well as Palolem beach curves. Our boat trip way back to Calangute was fast, furious and fun. We enjoyed it with the Ocean Waves as they welcomed us with smooth sprinkles. Now was the time to relax, refresh and enjoy at the Calangute beach; which we captured randomly. Many facilities for water sports and para gliding are available here. Amit Ladge, Piyush, Brahmanand and their better halves were with us. After the joyful half part of the day, we went back to hotel to refresh and late-lunch.

An eve at Calangute Beach:

As per our schedule timings, during the eve, some of us met at the Calangute beach again, and just enjoyed sunset, DJ, and snacks. The streets of Calangute were packed with shops offering a wide range of food, goods, souvenirs, metal crafts, clothes and jewelry, not just from Goa, but from other parts of the country as well. As the clocks touch 9, music going down slow in this area, we proceeded to Bagha beach post Pizza.

Night music and entertainment at Baga Beach:

Bagha Beach is an extension to Calangute beach with clean white sand. The beach also has many beach shacks and beach huts that sell delicious Goan food and thirst-quenching Feni (local wine of Goa). Throughout the night music (approx till 2 a.m.) and live bands that create a carnival like ambience simply makes the place rock and fun. We enjoyed here till 1:30 a.m. where karaoke songs were also being sung. After a joyful day, we went back to our hotel, as we don't wanna miss next day sunrise at Calangute.

The last day before we left, we went on a day trip to one of the largest floating market in Thailand, Damnoen Saduak floating market.

The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is located at Damnoen Saduak District, Ratchaburi Province, about 105 kms from Bangkok. The market is a labyrinth of narrow canals packed with paddle boats and floating farmers in traditional dress selling everything from fresh fruit and veg to steaming hot noodles over burning fires. We enjoyed coconut drink here. Fruits and vegetables are fully loaded on several small boats for sale to visitors. These kind of photographs are among the most often published in flight magazines and travel brochures of Thailand. One can easily see how it gets its nickname of Venice of the East.

We also see traditional Thai houses, the way they live and travel by boats, and please try riding on a small boat to experience the floating market and to see more. This was a worthwhile 1 hour trip. Although it was quite pricey and a little touristy, it was still interesting to see how this community lives. Fruits, snacks, hats, T-shirts, vegetables, silk dress, toys, you try anything, you will get here.

Elephant Village:

Next destination was elephant village, that was very nearby to floating market taxi stand. Our driver drop us at the parking place of elephant village at Ratchaburi itself. We drop baby elephant show and choose elephant ride for approx 45 mins in the jungles and in the water, as we have to catch-up our flight. We also bought some bananas and feed those to the elephants. The elephant was walking on a predefined path. In the way, mahout (elephant driver) also showed us different kind of necklaces and neck-pieces made up of elephant teeth.

After that we came to our hotel just to check-out and back to Bangkok airport. Here we have the surprise, our flight pre-pone by 3 hours and we missed it. Thankfully airlines provided us next day boarding passes and hotel accommodations. At this time all we could do was laugh. And so, after a few days that were filled with lots of adventure, fun and some rather interesting experiences, we packed our bags and finally headed back to Delhi (India).

At the Suvarnabhumi Airport - Bangkok, The scene of the churning of The Milk Ocean was beautifully portrayed. We bring some different kind of souvenirs from different parts of Thailand, wherever we visited.

and At the end we bought some Thai snacks and sweets from the airport as well.

If you came down to this page while searching "One day in Bangkok", or "How to enjoy most in a day in Bangkok", you are at the right place.

The next morning, we woke up late and missed our cab as per schedule due to last exhausted day. So we have to book personal taxi-meter to the capital city of Thailand - Bangkok and pay 1000 Thb extra.

We reached All Seasons Bangkok hotel, and have our lunch there. After that we have the Bangkok city tour as per our itinerary. It was heavy traffic in Bangkok (same as in Delhi). Guide keep on explaining us about the major places on the way, road system, and some random things. We got few more Indian fellows with us during today's day tour. Bangkok, the city of hundreds of Buddhist temples (Wat) have many historic places like The Royal Grand Palace, Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn), Wat Indraviharn, Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of Emerald Buddha), Wat Benchamabophit (The Marble Temple), Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha), Wat Trimit (The Temple of Golden Buddha), Victory monument etc. To be very frank, Just visit any two Wats, you will found most of them alike afterwards, as you can also have most famous Wats view during evening cruise.

Wat Indraviharn [Wat In] or [Wat Indharavihan]

Our guide stopped us at a point, from where the glimpse of a standing big Buddha can be seen from the outside itself. It is a golden glittering 32 meters high, mirror plated statue with super-sized Buddha. Some pretty views of the surroundings can be enjoyed by climbing the stairways of supporting tower. The temple compound features the beautiful architecture and the spiritual styles, including a Chinese shrine and statues of Ramas IV and V.

Wat Benjamabopit [The Marble Temple] [Wat Benchamabophit]

Address: Si Ayutthaya Road, Bangkok, Thailand [Daily 8a.m.-5p.m.]

There is a 20 Baht admission fee payable at the kiosk to the right of the entrance. The marble temple is named for the gleaming white marble of which it is constructed based on notable European designs. This is the most modern and one of the most beautiful of Bangkok's royal Wats. Now a days, This beautiful Thai temple is also a seat of learning for Buddhist monks with intellectual interests. Behind the cloister, there is a large Bodhi tree, bought from Bodhgaya (where the Buddha found Enlightenment) as a gift for King Chulalongkorn. Along the south side of the temple is a canal. Immediately across the canal are several interesting buildings. We enjoyed most of our times here. Wat Benchamabophit is an excellent place to watch religious festivals and processions. At these places (Wats), Salman-Asin starrer "Ready" movie song "Humko Pyar Hua" was also shooted.

Cruise Time : The Chaophraya Cruise

Our guide gave us the cruise tickets and drop us at River City Pier. It was a perfect evening, and was fascinating to enjoy the Thai way of life along the riverbanks on a cruise trip. Both sides of the Chao Phraya river, the magnificent architecture and attractions are standing elegant. Along the cruise journey, just sit back and enjoy the fantastic Indian and international foods and beverages with the live music and dance. The major attractions along the way are: The Temple of Dawn, The Grand Palace, The Suspension Rama bridge, and couple of world-class waterfront hotels. We enjoyed dancing at the cruise and had many funny moments at the River City.

State Tower and Sirocco (Sky Bar)

After that we booked the taxi to State Tower that has 68 floors and is 247 m tall, making it second tallest (as of now) in Bangkok. This tower is home to a five-star hotel called lebua (sic), and has forty-story high atrium inside, and on the 64th floor is Sirocco, the world's highest open-air restaurant with a spectacular panoramic view of Chao Phraya river and Bangkok city. We spent some time here and enjoyed a live band. We just get to know that Sirocco and State Tower were prominently featured in the 2011 American film "The Hangover 2". We went back to hotel by Thailand auto rickshaw called, tuk-tuk.

Ko Lan [Koh Larn] [Coral Island - Pattaya - Thailand]

It was the second day of our Thailand trip, that includes Coral Island tour with lunch as per our package itinerary. Our cab picked us from our hotel at 9:00 a.m. to the Pattaya beach side, from where many groups were about to transfer to Coral Island (Ko Larn). The day was great, as the sky was pretty clear. The sunlight was reflecting the sea waves at time to time. We were taken in a ferry and transferred to a big boat to para-sailing point. We clicked some nice snaps all around the big boat, and skipped para-sailing as both of us have already done this. We found some time to get some flicks of Pattaya beach panoramic view, para-sailing, speed boats, and amazing aqua sea.

After that we proceeded to Coral Island [Koh Larn] that is 45 mins ride by boat approx 7 Km from west of Pattaya. It was an amazing joyride by ferry boat, that was jumping off the sea-shore again and again. At time to time, It was sprinkling sea water drops from front to back on us.

Coral Island (Ko Larn) is the best known out of a group of small islands a few miles off the coast of Pattaya. It is popular with day visitors who want to spend a day on a wide sandy beach and do some snorkeling and undersea activities. It is known as 'Island of Tranquility' as it offers a change of pace from the busy beaches of Pattaya, its tranquil surroundings, beautiful beaches, glass-clear waters and extensive coral. Delicious seafood lunch is served on the island. Koh Lann is a lovely spot catering to all kinds of tourists. Whether you want to laze around on the island's soft, white sand (somewhere golden as will), or get more lively and play a few water sports is up to you at your own leisure. The island offers parasailing, water-skiing, jetskis, snorkeling and deep-sea diving, where there is an abundance of coral and undersea life waiting to be discovered. You can also take a ride in a glass-bottom boat to admire the underwater coral life or put-on your diving equipment to get even closer below the waves.

We also experience the undersea walk (Seafloor walk). It costed 3400 THB for both of us, including snaps. Unlike my previous undersea walk in Cyprus (was from the sea-shore), This time we were taken down besides the ladder, and it took no time to build my confidence going down. The organizers put helmet masks on our shoulders just before going undersea water. Our breathing devices were connected to the boat for all the undersea walkers. We were experiencing live undersea screensavers among various small and big fish with extensive coral. The organisers ask us to touch and feel some different kind of fish. We feed the fish many times. It was about 40 mins real time undersea adventure. This place has sufficient facilities to support a day-trip.

After that we have free time to have fun at the coral island beach. The beach was so clean and crystal clear. At the first glimpse of the beautiful beach, We got the feel just to stay here much more longer. We were last to ride on our ferry back to Pattaya.

After that we returned back to Pattaya and have our Indian buffet lunch. It was time to visit world's biggest jewelry store 'GEMS GALLERY' in Pattaya. There was amazingly amazing collection of various GEMS, and at the welcome itself, they showed us how gems being molded and then refined at further stages. At the dusk timing, We walked to the 'CentralFestival Mall'. Pattaya is famous for different sort of massages and fish massage was quite different experience to see.

As the day kissing the night, It started amazing fireworks at the beach road and we enjoyed it throughly. It was like the Christmas or New Year celebrations. It was really a beach walk to remember for us. The road was being more crowded at night, and no vehicles were allowed on beach road and famous walking street from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

We keep on walking till Pattaya city sign board on a small hill near 'Bali Hai pier' passing through the glittering of 'Walking Street'. Walking Street Pattaya is probably the most exciting street in the world if like to have fun and enjoy night life. Here you will find all kinds of entertainment, from discos, pubs, live music venues, go-go-bars, cabaret shows and much much more. One bizarre (to me) thing to taste here was egg mixed with Mango and banana. We have the veg pizza after searching a lot for the dinner, and back to the hotel.

This was the perfect day to enjoy with Meenal and these loving moments will be in our memory forever.

After our visit from "The Sanctuary of Truth", we reached our next stop of the day "Mini Siam", and then "Tiffany's show" afterwards.

Mini Siam - The miniature world

We know about the wonders of the world, but the human ideas and imagination, place most of the wonders at one place named "Mini Siam" in Pattaya.

Open everyday 07.00 am. - 10.00 pm.

Thai dancing shows are daily at : 07.00 pm.- 08.00 pm.

The idea is to save time and money to travel to scattered locations. The reason to establish Mini Siam for modelling and collecting all of them situated in one to be a Thai Culture Knowledge Source for the posterity to research and make them proud to preserve. Mini Siam is a miniature model village which celebrates the heritages of Thailand with replicas of the most famous monuments and historical sites including the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Democracy Monument, Bridge over the River Kwai etc. Models of the Tower Bridge of London, Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and Trevi Fountain are also displayed in the section called “mini world".

A couple of hours around Mini Siam will provide you with a quick tour of most of the landmarks of Thailand and around the world. We booked our package from "Dial-o-Flight" group, and started with the flight from Delhi to Bangkok. Being with Meenal, the clocks were running so fast and We reached Bangkok in no-time. :) We took on-arrival Visa (1000 Bahts each), and struggle for some good veg snacks at the airport, and found some at Starbucks Coffee. After that as per our tour package we transferred to Pattaya in a sleepy fashion.

Welcome to Pattaya!!!

I have done a bit of search to cover important places as per our schedule, and it really helped a-lot. For the first day at Pattaya, we booked "The Sanctuary of Truth", "Mini Siam", and "Tiffany Show", and started with the first one.

On The Seashore of Rachvate Cape, Pattaya, lies a construction called "The Sanctuary of Truth".

Timings:

Open Time: 8:00 a.m. Close Time: 5:00 p.m.

Thai Cultural dance timings:

First Show: 11:30 a.m.

Second Show: 15:30 p.m.

From the ground breaking in 1981. The objective was to build a wooden structure, in order to preserve and revive Ancient Knowledge. It has a all-wooden structure of more than one hundred meters high (equal to twenty story) modern building. The truth that was shown through the Sanctuary is the relationship between human beings and the universe, which are the father, the mother, the earth, the sky, the sun, the moon and the stars. It has searched for the proper things from different cultures, and mixed with traditions of past, giving rise to the new fine arts.

To be amazed as friendly mystical creatures, Take elephant ride, ride of lifetime atop chariots of the angels, speedboat ride just back of the sanctuary so that you'll live life's truly unforgettable magical moments. The project was initiated as an idea of Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981, and is expected to be complete in 2025.

We entered just in time, the second show (cultural dance) was about to start, and it was good to watch, and capture some loving moments with friendly people. I have linked many photos of front view, interior view, back view in the above album. We had a enjoyable walk all around "The Sanctuary of Truth" hands in hands. Being with Meenal, make these times more enjoyable and memorable.

Note: If you are in Pattaya, I would recommend this place as a must visit, unique in itself. Give at least 4 hours to visit this place. More details and current activities can be found at the official website sanctuaryoftruth.com. It can be easily reached by a taxi, and many tour services offer this place along with transportation. The tickets can be purchased at the entry itself, or you can book with your tour representative in advance. [500 Thb Per Person]

Since 1983, The Ajanta Caves have been world's greatest historical monument recognised by UNESCO located just 40kms from Jalgaon city of Maharashtra, India. It is 100 Km from Ellora Caves, and 110 Km from Aurangabad. After covering Ellora caves, We follow the route from Pune as:

Pune - Ahmadnagar - Shani Shingnapur - Aurangabad - Daultabad - Ellora - Sillod - Ajanta.

The same can be covered by the path directly from Pune as: Pune - Ahmadnagar - Aurangabad - Sillod - Ajanta

Ajanta Caves Timings:

9:00 am to 5:30 pm; Note: Ajanta Caves are closed on Monday.

Some points about Ajanta Caves:

1. Why name Ajanta? As the place was unknown to the public (Janta) since long time, so as the name, A-Janta.

2. Ajanta Caves, excavated between the 2nd century B.C. and the 6th century A.D. are renowned for Buddhist paintings.

3. Ajanta represents the most perfect example of Indian wall paintings.

4. For a thousand years, Ajanta lay buried in the jungle-clad slopes of the western mountain range, until in 1819, It was discovered accidentally.

5. Ajanta Caves made an ideal site of horse-shoe shaped rock rising over a ravine alongwith the "Waghora river".

6. There are 30 caves, some of them are uncompleted and negligible. Best work can be found in caves 1, 2, 16, 17 and 19. The best sculptures are in caves 1, 4, 17, 19, 24 and 26. [Info consolidated through various sites, and after own interpretation]

7. Cave No 9, 10, 19, 26 and 29 are chaitya halls and rest monesteries are vihars.

8. Caves 1, 2, 16 and 17 are fitted with spotlights, available for use on payment.

9. The central theme on the walls comes under two heads - narrative scenes from the Buddha's life and illustrations of Jataka fobles pertaining to Buddha's previous incarnation.

10. The paintings inside the caves, include geometric designs, floral and ornamental motifs, flying figures of celestial beings, animals, birds, plants.

Some Tips to Enjoy/Note about Ajanta Caves as per our experience:

1. To start early in the morning, stay nearby Ajanta caves area, and reach at night to Ajanta village.
2. Try to start early in the day, so that It wouldn't be exaustive.
3. During peak season, There is long queue for tickets, also for the bus drop from Ajanta Parking place to the base of Ajanta caves.
So try to be early in the morning, We got our bus sharp 9 A.M.
4. Bring ample snacks and water before starting for the Ajanta caves, as you wouldn't get anything up the hills.
5. There are some small waterfalls during monsoon season, that can be enjoyed.
6. When you finish all the caves, explore another little big waterfall, follow the path that connects to the bridge.
7. To have different views of the Ajanta caves, You have to follow bridge root, not the same root while coming back.
8. You can have a guide for the whole Ajanta caves visit, or you can choose to have different guides at some specific caves, and pay some small tokens to them.
9. It will take 4-5 hrs to cover all the caves, depending on how you are traversing the caves from the base area.
10. Nearby Ajanta parking area, There is an ATM, and many shops that have been commercialized. Bargain as much as you can, while purchasing the souvenirs.

Ellora caves are 30 Km away from Aurangabad. The road passes by the base of the Daultabad Fort, We follow the route from Pune after visiting Shani Shignapur:

Pune - Ahmadnagar - Shani Shingnapur - Aurangabad - Daultabad - Ellora.

Jain Caves

Some points about Ellora Caves:

Ellora Caves, spanning during the period 5th and 11th A.D. comprise Buddhist monasteries, and temples of the Hindu and Jain faiths.
Ellora, is famous for its architectural design and outstanding sculptures.
The 34 "caves" – The 12 Buddhist (caves 1–12), 17 Hindu (caves 13–29) and 5 Jain (caves 30–34) caves, built in proximity, demonstrate the religious harmony prevalent during this period of Indian history.
Among these, the most notable ones are cave 5, 10, 15, 16, 21, 29, 32.
Most famous of the Buddhist caves is cave 10, a chaitya hall (chandrashala) or 'Vishvakarma cave', popularly known as the "Carpenter's Cave".
Kailasha (Cave 16) is designed to recall Mount Kailash, is a splendid artwork, not to miss.
In the brahmanical excavations, the imagination and poetry of the various concepts was reflected in artwork which attained a new visual grace, power and fame.
All Jain caves [30-34] belongs to Digambara sect. Jain caves reveal specific dimensions of Jain philosophy and tradition.
Many of the structures had rich paintings in the ceilings – fragments of which are still visible.
One aspect a typical visitor overlooks is the geological background of Ellora. In fact the most defining factor why Ellora was ever made and that too at this location is the geological peculiarity of the place.

Ellora Waterfall: The waterfall can be enjoyed during monsoon season in full flow. It can be seen easily in between caves 28 and 29. There is a bridge that connects between caves 28 and 29. You can reach just below the waterfall through the bridge. During high monsoon season, It remains closed due to rock sliding.

Some Tips to Enjoy/Note about Ellora Caves trip as per our experience:

1. To start early in the morning, stay nearby Ellora caves area, or Aurangabad.
2. The best time to visit Ellora caves is, in the winter months October to February. But During monsoon season, It can be enjoyed more, caves covered with lush greens. Ellora waterfall and some more small waterfalls can be enjoyed.
3. Try to start early in the day, so that It wouldn't be exaustive.
4. The taxi parking ground faces Cave 16, and visitors are used to make this their starting point. But, It is advisable to walk down, and begin with Cave 1, if you are by foot. If you own the vehicle, Start with to take the vehicle 1.5 Km up the road to another part of the hillside to visit the last 5 Jain caves [30 - 34]. It will save the time, then the middle series Hindu caves [13-29], and at the last finish the buddhist caves [1-12].
5. Bus and vehicle can go to caves no. 21, 29, 34 only. Save your time reaching these points by your vehicle.
6. Bring ample snacks and water before starting for the Ellora caves, as you wouldn't get anything up the hills.
7. It will take 4-6 hrs to cover all the caves, depending on how you are traversing the caves.
8. There are many meditation halls to sit calm and relax for some time.
9. Just opposite cave 16, A big garden can be enjoyed from top of Kailasha.
10. If you have very short time, Cover the most notable one caves - 5, 10, 15, 16, 21, 29, 32.

Pune - Temghar Dam - Lavasa

First of all a very Happy I-Day (Independence day) to all my readers and loved ones.

It was the long weekend, and we decided to go to Lavasa, India's first planned hill station. The city is still yet to complete. This hill city has been controversial for many reasons as: danger to environment, quarrying, procurement of land etc. Not going into these details, lets start our trip to Lavasa.

We decided to go by car. Abhishek, Ajay, Pardeep, Raunak, Tarachand were finally in, Off-cource including me. Thanks to Raunak who managed to get all of us in his car. Enjoying the scenic beauty and full time rain was a pleasure during monsoon season. We choose the path from Magarpatta City - Chandni Chowk - Pirangut - Paud Road - Temghar Lavasa Road - Temghar Dam - Lavasa. We stopped at various points shortly to enjoy the rain, and for some time at Temghar dam. Temghar dam is in the valley of Sahyadri hills near Pune, This was almost full of monsoon water.

It started raining heavily as we entered the gates of Lavasa. Throughout the trip, It keep on raining, and various waterfalls can be enjoyed. The street name is itself the waterfall st. People were enjoying these water streams stopping their vehicles. We reached at Ekaant lodge, at the top of hill. From the parking place, the panoramic view of the lake and the Lavasa cityscape is awesome and adorable. As per the plans, four-five towns will be built on seven hills. So far, Dasve is one of them, and the other town is Mugaon.

In Lavasa, people can enjoy various water-sports as well, But at this high mansoon season these were closed. There are some adventure sports with X-thrill (sign-boards can be seen at the road-sides) and activities like rock climbing, paint ball, rappelling, camping, and trekking to the nature trails can be done at different times throughout the year.

We had our lunch just near the bridge crossing points. We managed to get standing food at this place, where we ate like dogs. [everyone getting too much hungry] From this point, people can enjoy train-shaped vehicle drive to Lavasa city for 20 mins, cost INR 50. After that we drive down the city, crossed the lovely bridge, stopped at a pictsquare place for some colorful designing Villas and the waterfront buildings.

During our trip, we enjoyed the tea and the sweet-corn at the road-side. Lavasa could be the good option for one day trip from Pune or Mumbai. If you have dream of living in Lavasa hill city villa, or need any more info, you can visit: lavasa.com

Goa Part-2

Previous day visit at Goa: Water-Sports and nightlife at Calangute Beach

Part2-Day2: Old Goa:

The Bom Jesus Church: We started almost as per bus timings. What could be the better place than remembering God as to start the day. This church houses St.Francis Xavier's mortal remains and is the tourist destination. The place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The church is located in Old Goa, which was the capital of Goa in the early days of Portuguese rule. Interior view of the church is amazing and the church also holds paintings of scenes taken from the life of St. Francis Xavier. The body of St. Francis Xavier is kept in a well-decorated casket. After that we move towards spice garden.

Tropical Spice Plantation:

The place address is: "A-14, Arla Bazar, Keri, Ponda"

As we entry to this spice plantation cottage, a sweet lady welcome us with a garland. We had special tea within its own spices from garden. After that we stared with the guided tour of the spice garden. The guide showed us various trees and plants of spices like: cardamom (Elaichi), turmeric (Haldi), Thyme Seed (Ajwain), Almond (Badam), Cinnamon (Daalchini), Coriander (Dhania), Nutmeg (Jaiphal), Cumin seed (Jeera), Cashewnut (Kaju), Saffron (Kesar), Chilli (Mirchi), Cloves (Lavang), Peppercorns (Kali Mirch), Holy Basil (Tulsi) etc etc. At the end monkey man showed a technique to climbing the tree, and hopping from one to another. After that we had some drops of water under our back as per the ritual. At the end we headed towards our group lunch. There was a bridge to reach this cottage, and both sides of this, there were various water plants, fish and snakes roaming around. You can also enjoy elephant bath, elephant ride and elephant banana feeding here. People enjoyed and spend some time amidst pure nature.

Shree Mangesh Prashanna: Om namah Sivaya!!! The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. Nearby market is full of local stuff, and various fruit chhat can be enjoyed here. After that our bus moved towards the capital city of Goa, Panaji.

Dona Paula, Panaji: This place have both romantic and mythical flavours. At the apex, enigmatic scenes can be enjoyed along with Arabian sea. Another most important attraction of this beach is the water sport facilities available here.

Princesa Cruise: A cruise on the high waves of Arabian Sea, what could be a better eve than this. As soon as we boarded at the cruise, party started, and local dances also performed. After that our group come back to Anup holiday homes. At the night, some of us went to Saturday night market. Market was quite good and enlighting and having local items. I enjoyed some of the Beatles songs, and many more. Luckily we also get the chance to watch dance and fire show by the acrobats.

Part2-Day3:

Third day again, We been to beach for sea bath, and being more tan. We had the walk of calingute beach from one end to another. We relaxed & tanned there till noon, then move to the hotel. Its time to back to Pune, We got our bus to drop at Vasco-Da-Gama railway station.

Both ways train journey was superb, we enjoyed our dinner/snacks together. Tambola and playing cards was full on throughout our journey. Most of us bring cashew, fenny(feni), local wine from Goa for their family and friends. Overall the project event was well organized and planned. Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers to make this event successful and great outing.

Part1-Day1:

We reached Margaon (Moddganv) railway station early in the morning, and then to the Anup holiday homes near Calingute beach. We had some time to refresh and breakfast, and then rush towards the beach.

It was a sunny day, as we came here at the start of Feb. The day was dedicated to fun-filled water-sports and beach time. We had sea-water biking, banana ride, para-sailing etc. All the groups participated in this sporty event.

Nightlife and entertainment at Calangute:

First at the eve, we had a cup of cardamom and ginger tea, then walked towards a temple near the crossroads. Calangute's nightlife is surprisingly tamed and provide a nice break for party lovers. At the beach itself, We had candle-light with the whole group, and enjoyed chat with all.

Beach walk at night remind me the days of Cyprus. For sometime, we shake our body, move our legs at the dance floor. After that we roam around the places to enjoy Calingute night market and have dinner. At least Zabi bought the specs for his eyes security. Now it was the time to go to bed, as another packed day was scheduled.

An Eve at Mulshi Lake

After the long long time, We enjoyed the long biking & decided to go to Mulshi Lake. It was the runtime plan executed by Ritesh, Tara, Abhishek, Anish, Shashwat, Ashish & me. We plan to enjoy an eve at Mulshi lake, We marched from Magarpatta to Mulshi Dam via Swargate, Chandni Chowk, Pirangut and Paud & so on. It is approx 35 - 40 KM from Chandni Chowk, Pune. Mulshi dam and lake belongs to Mula river under the Pune district division. It supplies power to Mumbai.

While our visit to this place, We keep on pausing at frequent intervals for snacks, snaps and relax. Though It was not the rainy season, but we still enjoyed that winter eve throughout wild and breeze nature. You will find people stopping their vehicle at various points, enjoying the long beautiful lake. Mulshi Choupati can be better option for the snacks or lunch other than rest roadside dhabas & restaurants. We also stopped our bikes at medium crowded place during this season, and explored a bit. Different set of people were here for different purposes, You understand what I mean. :) Some people were even enjoying the lake bath during this dusk time. Some of us, also jumped into the lake semi-folding their lowers.

Now It started twilighting, the moment we were waiting for. I explored some of the opportunities of photography, trying to capture the sunset in different horizons. In the album above, Some of the sunset photos at Mulshi lake can be enjoyed. I always love the diffused light from the sky, when the sun is below the horizon, may be, it just before sunrise or just after sunset.

After that we returned back to Magarpatta having dinner at Chandni Chowk. It was cold enough to make us numb while biking back to Pune. Now Mulshi lake and nearby areas are being developed as a tourist spot. It can be good option for you to enjoy an eve there. It can also be considered as one day picnic spot near Pune to chill having tranquil, serene and scenic nature.

Grand Canyon Of India - Mahabaleshwar

Hello and welcome to the Green Grand Canyon of India, Mahabaleshwar. It is already listed to the evergreen forests of the world. It is the hill station in Satara district (Maharashtra) about 120 KM away from Pune and 280 KM away from Mumbai. Mahabaleshwar is a vast plateau measuring 150 KM2 bound by valleys on all sides.

It is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy honey and strawberries especially during the summer. Besides the plenty of restraint paths, boating, horse riding, and golf facilities, fishing spots, trekking trails and pretty waterfalls, the town is full of lookout points. Although there are close to 25 'Points' in Mahabaleshwar, Some points to worth visiting in Mahabaleshwar are Bombay Point, Elphinstone Point, Mahabaleshwar Club, Kate's Point, Wilson's Point, Sunset Point, Arthur's Seat etc. We covered some of the must see points during our 1 day trip to Mahabaleshwar. Not to mention, but don't forget to bring your camera while travelling Mahabaleshwar.

Parsi Point: Parsi Point is a renowned picnic spot. This scenic point is situated on the way to Mahabaleshwar, and overlooks the lush green Krishna valley and the blue shiny waters of the Dhom Dam.

There is a parking area from where you have to trek a little to get Lodwick and Elephant Head Points.
Lodwick Point: This place has a great views and You can enjoy plenty of waterfalls flowing. There is a monument in memory of the general, erected by his son.

Elephant Head Point: The walk from Lodwick point to Elephant head is tranquil and serene, and the nature makes it overwhelming. The cliffs which overhang resemble an elephant’s head and trunk. It is another observation point to deep valley view. There were also plenty of pancies of different colors at the edges of the deep valleys.

Arthur's Seat: It is the most famous point and full of walkers and trekkers. You don't wanna leave this place. To really enjoy this place, You should enjoy the sun-light over the mountains coming out of clouds. You can enjoy the sweet corn here. Nearby points are Window Point (Just below Arthur's point), Tiger's Spring, echo point.

Kate's Point: This point gives you the freshness and warmth of nature having Krishna valley in back with lush green mountains at both sides. It is a good place to relax and rejuvenate as well.

Needle Hole Point: The view from here is simply mesmerizing. This is opposite of Kate's Point and can be reached through the trail at the other side of the road. A beautiful waterfall can be enjoyed at this place. The place is actually of the lookout point of Kate's Point. The place is also known as Elphinstone Point.

While returning back to Pune, We have a quick look to Mazaana Chocolate factory and had the tea break as well. Thanks to Shaju, Anjali, Atul, Karishma, and Suhas to make this trip more enjoyable.
