Well, not with cartoons... I'll try to keep a flickr site up to date with pictures and I'll post here when I do. (It might prove to be infrequent given that we won't be online at the camp.) I orginally decided not to post about the trip here at all, but I guess it'll be much easier for me to keep everyone updated via onebean than it'll be to email everyone non-spam fashion, given that we won't have internet access on base. (nice out-clause, eh?)

Before I leave, I'd just like to let everyone know about my friend Alisha. Not only is she an intelligent, warm hearted, funny, gorgeous girl that dances like no one else I know, she's also way too generous. Alisha (THE bean and inspiration for this site) has just sealed her "WICKEDEST EVER" status by making a generous donation! I felt a little embarrassed to accept it - but that feeling didn't last too long! haha... Anyway, thanks again Alisha, and good luck with the graduation and the job hunt! Catch you somewhere, sometime. xxx

Also, thanks to AC/DC and my HK friends for the send off/house-warming barbie - see you all later this year and good luck with all those babies!

On a slighly serious note, and the only granola-flavoured thing onebean will have on it's pages, I'm going to leave you with a trip inspired question:
<br To make the whole experience real, he went shopping for Speedos (otherwise known as banana hammocks, DP's or grape smugglers) and goggles. Now, surely there are better (stylistically and comfort-wise) options to Speedos. I mean, with people in space, a highly developed fashion industry and so many stretchy fabrics, you'd think that we'd have moved on from what I can only describe as a blight on the whole water-based activity scene. Granted, if you're going swimming for fitness, you probably don't want to be wearing boardies, but COME ON!! Speedos?? I think I'd rather... did someone say brunch?

The other thing was the instructions that came with the goggles... Instructions?? Just how stupid do you have to be? (rhetorical question) One of the warnings was "Don't pull goggles away from face and let go." Seriously. Mind you, I'm sure this is just protection against someone potentially suing them for not warning them they shouldn't do it. It's like the urban legend of the cruise control case (last item on the page).

A prelude to phonerage

Crossroads?

Cool things to check out

Some not so new things.... but still worth checking out:

1) Window's Remixed
If you haven't seen this already, you've got to check this out. Crazy. I'd love to hear from people that know about this site or the people who put the ad up and where they found the site! It's pretty cool to have a banner made for you without you knowing about it...

2) StumbleUpon (peer site ranking)
I'm still figuring this all out, but it seems that people who are part of this community (there's gotta be a cooler term for it, but it's 1:40am, I've had a couple of drinks, I'm not that hip with terms and... well, whatever) rank sites they think are worth looking at, and... something happens. If you're the person who recommended onebean: THANKS! Anyone care to fill me in on some details? For example, I've installed the toolbar, I can say "I like it" or not about sites... but how can I see how I'm going?

Thanks again for those people who are helping to promote onebean - this is a one, er, bean operation (?? yeah, you thought there was a WHOLE TEAM here right??? riiiight) so any free publicity is really very much appreciated.

Oh, thanks to all the people that have clicked on ads!! I've now made a whopping 10 bucks! Gone!

As fate would have it, just when traffic was at it's heaviest in the site's short history, the mail form functionality went a little spotty. This is because the provider of that service was doing some routine maintenance - but everything should be working now.

Also working again are the live bookmarks, which stopped working for a while when I switched to Blogger.

Despite those little hiccups, the past couple of days have been great! There were 3000 people that came by on the 23rd, 14 new subsciptions, 3 enquiries about custom cartoons - and thanks to all those people who did manage to send a note through the site. For only having been live for 2 months, we're doing pretty well. With all the upgrades planned, other side projects and preparation for Mexico, I'm going to have to make sure more new cartoons get done!

I was at a family dinner last night and, as many creators already know, family is a great source of inspiration and funny stories. The trick is to make those stories universally appealing. Based on last night though, I'm convinced that we've got some good common ground with the rest of the world! There are 3 characters that I'm going to work on first. To protect the identities of the characters in question, let's call them.... Uncle Ned, Uncle Don and Auntie Flo.

Well, I'd better get cracking with some of these to-dos...

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Onebean/~3/aq0UPtdeD-c/tech-hiccups-gone.html" title="Tech hiccups....
