A digital gift for tourists traveling through Prague.

Animated using After Effects with photos taken during a summer abroad study at the NC State Prague Institute, an initiative of the College of Design.

The Prague Institute offers the unique opportunity for students interested in studying for a semester or summer in Europe. The Institute offers a variety of Design Studios, seminars and general education requirement courses to both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Institute is located on a medieval street in the center of “old town” Prague approximately a two-minute walk from Old Town Square. It is in one of the main art districts of the city including a number of art galleries, art supply stores, book shops specializing in design related publications, and a number of cafes and restaurants. Students commute to the Institute by subway in about twenty minutes from their residence in a small hotel on a hill overlooking the city center. The hotel was built as a private villa in the early 1900’s and is an excellent example of Czech functionalist architecture.

The goal of this project was to take about a minute of music and produce a 3d animation that tied to the music. The rendered frames were to contain nothing other than black and white, and another aim for the animation was to start off giving as little indication that the animation was 3d as possible. The rendered frames were to contain nothing other than black and white, and another aim for the animation was to start off giving as little indication that the animation was 3d as possible, then work into a very obviously 3d feel. I really wanted to tie the imagery to the feel of the music as much as I could with this piece, so I decided to stick with Japanese imagery throughout the work.
