Progress report on my list-building plan

Hi my friend,

As you’ve probably noticed, I’m on a mission to expand my business. So I’ve been trying every list-building technique in the book. More subscribers, more potential sales.

Know what works best so far? It’s giving visitors lots of creative ways to sign up for my list. So I’ve been exploring the collection of form types included in my GetResponse email marketing account.

For example, on my blog, I can create a scroll form that follows the reader as they scroll down the page — a friendly reminder to sign up for updates. Or place a fixed-bar form at the top of the reader’s browser, so it’s always in view.

And GetResponse includes interesting ways to grab attention — a shake form that … well, it shakes (very gently) to catch the reader’s eye. There’s an exit pop-up form you can set to appear when the reader is leaving (to reduce bounces). And an image pop-up form that allows you to add a colorful photo or image.

One of my strategies is to offer a sign-up incentive. I use a download form that releases the e-document and adds the new subscriber to my marketing list

You can customize these forms. In fact, there’s a Color Magic tool that matches the form colors to the colors on your website or blog automatically. And any form can be coded to add the new subscriber to the campaign of your choice.

Difficult? Nope. After I finish choosing the settings, I copy a snippet of code and paste it into the website HTML — and there it is, looking great.

What else? Oh yes, you can add custom fields to the form. The extra data is useful for segmenting my list, personalizing messages, and providing dynamic content.

As you know, I started using social media to build my list. (If you’re not, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee.) GetResponse has free tools that integrate sign-up forms with everyday business tools like Facebook, WordPress, PrestaShop, Joomla, WooCommerce, and many more.

To sum up, I couldn’t be happier with the growth of my email list. Once you get forms in place, they keep working night and day, week after week. And if a particular form seems to be under-producing, I can run an A/B test and then tweak it to find out what works best.

Whether or not you consider yourself a fan of historical fiction, you've heard the names Hilary Mantel, Eleanor Catton, Anthony Doerr and Kristin Hannahrepeatedly over recent years. No longer dismissed as bodice-rippers rife with anachronisms or dreary textbooks dressed up in barely discernible plots, historical fiction is gaining the respect of critics and readers alike, regularly appearing on shortlists for major literary awards and on bestseller lists around the world.

Generally speaking, historical fiction is any story that is set in a time period in the past, but depending on who you ask, the criteria can be more - or less - stringent than that. The Walter Scott Prize, created in 2010 to recognize excellence in UK, Irish, and Commonwealth historical fiction, limits the definition to events that take place at least 60 years before publication, during a historical period with which the author has no personal experience.

Regardless of how long ago an historical novel takes place, accuracy and authenticity of the historical setting are absolutely essential. But that doesn't just apply to the physical setting; the worldview of the characters, their values, mores, and general sensibilities must accurately reflect their era. Truly great historical fiction has the ability to portray those sensibilities in a way that can do more than just provide a glimpse into the past - it can also provide insight into contemporary situations and ways of being.

The fact that we're talking about fiction also means that while historical authenticity is important, imagined elements of the story don't have to be based on fact. There is a wide variety of opinion on how much artistic license a writer should be permitted with fictional components, as reflected in the diverse selection below. For the actions and experiences of fictional characters, some will say the only limitation is the author's imagination but for non-fictional events and people, the story must stay true to the historical record. Others allow more leeway, allowing the author to put real people into imaginary situations, as long as the historical outcome remains unaltered.

The books listed below include examples of historical fiction by the strictest of definitions, as well as those that fudge the rules a bit - or a lot. Written over the last 200+ years, with settings that range from ancient Rome in Robert Graves' I, Claudius, to 19th century Egypt and an imaginary relationship between Gustav Flaubert and Florence Nightingale in Enid Shomer's The Twelve Rooms of the Nile, to 15th Centrury Florence in George Eliot's study of the Italian Renaissance, Romola.

The Shwedagon is said to be built during the lifetime of Buddha, making it more than 2,500 years old. The then small structure has been renovated and built upon since then.

The main stupa here embalms sacred relics of Buddha. With many small and big stupas around, housing the memories and relics of many great old monks, the Shwedagon has many things to offer apart from the enlightenment it gives its visitors. With its enchanting views and a small light show that happens here occasionally, you can delve yourself into the history and the culture of this magnificent country.

There are some other Pagodas in Myanmar too which are also very famous amongst the Buddhist community. For instance, the Golden Rock is one of the Pagodas that is quite an attraction here for the backpackers. It takes a hike to reach the top of the mountain, where the rock, perfectly balanced on the edge of the mountaintop has a gold-plated pagoda built on the top. It is said that the Golden Rock balances on a hair strand of Gautam Buddha himself and is a very spiritual site.

Another famous Pagoda in the country is Mahamuni Paya, which houses a 13 feet tall structure of a seated Buddha, which has been there for 2000 years. The image is celebrated worldwide and the devotees have been applying gold on it for so long, the structure is said to have almost 6 inches thick layer of gold.

Apart from its spiritual experience, the country has many more things to offer. With a long existing history that many historians have dwelled on for centuries, Myanmar makes for an interesting place to learn the whole culture of Buddhism, as well as many other historical events. Here are some interesting facts about Myanmar travel – land of the golden pagoda.

Myanmar housed the world’s largest bell in the Shwedagon Pagoda, which was built in the late 15th century. In 1608, the Portuguese ruler of Syria, Philip de Brito stole the bell for melting it down for making cannons and weapons out of them. The boat carrying the 300 tonnes weighing bell sunk in the river though and has been lying on the bottom of the river since.

One interesting titbit for travelers, Myanmar is one of the only three countries in the world that doesn’t follow the metric system.

They embrace that fact proudly and have their own unit called “peiktha”, which is equal to 3.6 pounds.

This information is an important one for its visitors. The country doesn’t have many ATMs and many places here usually don’t accept credit cards. So, it is important to carry plenty of cash in hand before visiting the country, preferably US Dollars.

The country used to be under a military dictatorship until 2011, which is fairly recent and elected its first democratic government in a century, recently. The country since then has grown in the tourism sector and has decreased cases of local violence since then. Aung San Suu Kyi won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2011 for her struggles as a human right activist and non-violent struggle for the country’s democracy. She faced a 15-year long house arrest between 1989 to 2011. She is now the president of the country.

Myanmar is also the largest Buddhist country in the world. Housing a population of 50 million people, the country has estimated 90% of its citizens officially identifying as Buddhists.

The Intha people in the country are infamously known for their one-legged fishing technique. The bizarre technique has become quite a phenomenon recently. The technique involves the fishermen standing on one foot and rowing the boat with a paddle on the other feet.

Thác Voi
Hay còn có tên khác là thác Liêng Rơwoa. Thác cách Đà Lạt 25 km về phía Tây Nam với chiều cao khoảng 30m, rộng 15m. Phía sau dòng thác có hang động bí ẩn như hàng Dơi, hang Gió luôn tạo đểm nhấn cho du khách muốn khám phá.

Singapore là một trong những thủ đô sạch và quyến rũ nhất Đông Nam Á, đóng vai trò như một trung tâm trung chuyển cao cấp và là thiên đường cho những người thích mua sắm. Một quốc gia nhỏ bé sạch sẽ ngăn nắp và từ sân bay Changi mất khoảng 30 phút đi tàu hoặc xe du khách dễ dàng đến các khách sạn trong trung tâm thành phố Singapore.

Orchard là khu vực nổi tiếng nhất của Singapore - đây là trung tâm mua sắm lớn nhất thế giới sau khi trung tâm Mega hợp lại tạo thành chuỗi các cửa hiệu bán lẻ. Mình còn khá nhiều ngày nghỉ phép nên quyết định đi chuyến du lịch đến một nước bất kỳ trong Đông Nam Á vào cuối tháng 1 này trước khi về quê ăn Tết.

Hiện mình đang phân vân giữa Malaysia, Thái Lan, Singapore và Campuchia. Mình không biết đi nước nào sẽ thuận tiện cho việc tham quan, mua sắm và đi lại.

Vào tháng 1, thời tiết ở Malaysia rơi vào mùa mưa. Điều này ảnh hưởng khá nhiều đến chuyến đi của bạn. Do vậy, bạn tránh chọn đi du lịch Malaysia trong thời điểm đó.

Theo mình, bạn nên chọn thủ đô Bangkok (Thái Lan) cho chuyến hành trình vào cuối tháng 1 này. Nơi đây vừa đông đúc, náo nhiệt, vừa có sự xuất hiện của nhiều trung tâm thương mại để bạn mua sắm thả ga. Ngoài ra, Bangkok còn có nhiều địa điểm tham quan khác như khu phố người Hoa China Town, cung điện Hoàng Gia Thái Lan Grand Palace, chùa Phật vàng Wat Traimit...

Bangkok còn sở hữu nhiều loại phương tiện giao thông như tàu điện trên không, tàu điện ngầm, tuk tuk, taxi... giúp bạn dễ dàng di chuyển giữa các địa điểm.

10 sai lầm khi đặt vé máy bay

Rất nhiều người băn khoăn và tự đặt câu hỏi, tại sao chúng ta không thể có một chuyến du lịch, công tác tiết kiệm chi phí như những người khác? Sau đây sẽ là 10 sai lầm nghiêm trọng mà nhiều người mắc phải.

1. Luôn chỉ đặt vé của một hãng hàng không

Bạn nên xem thông tin tham khảo, thông tin giá vé trên trang web của các hãng. Cách nhanh nhất để nắm bắt thông tin là đăng ký email nhận thông tin về chuyến bay. Qua đó, chúng ta có thể xem được giá ghế trung bình của mỗi hãng, dễ dàng lựa chọn mức giá vé, dịch vụ.

2. Không xem thông tin chuyến bay một cách kỹ lưỡng

Đừng vội đặt vé khi chưa biết gì về chuyến bay mà bạn chọn. Rất nhiều hãng hàng không cạnh tranh nhau. Một chút sai lầm nhỏ cũng ảnh hưởng lớn đến dịch vụ, chất lượng chuyến bay. Nếu trót đặt mua vé, bạn có thể hủy lệnh đó trong trường hợp được hủy miễn phí. Bạn có thể đặt vé của một hãng hàng không khác có chất lượng dịch vụ tốt hơn.

3. Đặt vé không đúng vào dịp khuyến mại

Mặc dù khoảng chênh lệch chi phí không đáng kể, với nhiều người, việc đặt vé vào ngày khuyến mại có thể giảm đáng kể chi phí bay. Theo một báo cáo của Mỹ, việc mua vé các ngày thứ 5 (đối với các chuyến bay nội địa) và các ngày cuối tuần (đối với các chuyến bay quốc tế) sẽ tiết kiệm được một khoản tiền kha khá cho khách hàng. Giả sử chúng ta đang cần đến tham dự lễ hội bia ở Budapest, Hungary nhưng không thể tìm thấy chuyến bay nào đến thành phố này. Một du khách thông minh sẽ mở rộng phạm vi tìm kiếm và xem xét các chuyến bay tới vùng lân cận như Vienna, Munich, Prague hay Bratislava. Sau đó, bạn có thể di chuyển bằng đường bộ tới Budapest với chi phí phải chăng. Tóm lại, bạn nên chú ý tìm kiếm các điểm đến lân cận để thay thế địa điểm chính mà bạn muốn thăm. Đây có thể là cơ hội để bạn khám phá thêm các địa điểm thú vị.

6. Không linh hoạt ngày bay

Theo thống kê, nhiều người đã tiết kiệm khá nhiều chi phí bay bằng cách đổi thời gian, địa điểm cho phù hợp với từng lộ trình cụ thể. Thông thường, thứ 4 là ngày tốt nhất cho dân du lịch đặt vé, có thể tiết kiệm tới 60 USD cho chuyến quốc tế. Thủ nhật là ngày vé máy bay đắt nhất. Đối với lượt về, thứ 4 cũng là ngày giá vé rẻ nhất cho chuyến bay quốc tế, và thứ 3 là lựa chọn hoàn hảo để đặt vé bay nội địa Mỹ.

7. Quên tính giá thuế và chi phí trong giá vé

Hiện nay, các hãng hàng không tính tất cả chi phí dịch vụ, thuế... vào giá vé. Chúng ta cần xem xét hết tất cả các khoản phí cần chi trả để có thể dự trù chính xác chi phí cho chuyến bay.

8. Đặt vé quá muộn

Chúng ta nên chuẩn bị và lên kế hoạch chi tiết cho chuyến đi sớm nhất có thể. Việc đầu tiên là đặt vé sớm để sắp xếp công việc cho hợp lý. Nấu đặt vé quá muộn, bạn có thể không chủ động được lịch trình bay, lịch trình công việc mình cần làm và thậm chí vé máy bay cũng không theo ý muốn.

9. Đặt vé quá sớm

Nhiều người nghĩ rằng càng sớm càng tốt nhưng thực tế lại có tác dụng ngược lại. Thông thường, các hãng hàng không sẽ giảm giá một số chỗ ngồi vào thời điểm nhất định trước khi khởi hành. Vì thế, nếu đặt vé máy bay quá sớm, chúng ta có thể vô tình lỡ cơ hội mua vé giá rẻ với chất lượng chuyến bay tương đương.

10. Không sử dụng các ứng dụng hỗ trợ so sánh giá vé

Trước khi đặt vé máy bay, bạn cần tìm hiểu rõ thông tin đặt vé, quyền lợi sử dụng, lựa chọn thay thế sân bay... Chúng ta có thể sử dụng các phần mềm hỗ trợ đăng ký nhận tin cập nhật thông tin nhanh nhất về giá vé và so sánh dịch vụ của các hàng hàng không để lựa chọn chuyến thích hợp với lộ trình tốt, an toàn. Bằng cách này chúng ta sẽ không tốn thời gian, tiền bạc mà vẫn biết được các thông tin cần thiết.

Winter in Italy

Winter is one of the beautiful seasons in Italy. Winters are typically milder than in many places, and honestly, there just isn’t an inconvenient time to come and visit any of our beautiful cities.

Winter temps vary from place to place a bit more than they do during summer months. Average temps can range from minus two degrees to about 20 degrees C.

We have a wide variety of great trips you can take and enjoy alone, with a loved one or with the entire family!
