Planning
Never try to build a website without planning it first. This is your business and you want to make sure that your visitors can find their way around your site. By planning properly you will be ensuring your website guests will spend time on your site navigating all of your pages.

Research
Do your research…create your website around your clients needs in other words… offer them a solution to their problems.

Register your domain name
Try to get a domain name as close to your business or main product name as you possible can. There are many domain name registers and they are not expensive…around ten dollars a year, a couple are Namecheap and Hostgator.

Hosting
Once you have your domain name you will need to get a hosting account. There are dozens of hosting companies to choose from and cost from ten to fifteen dollars a month.

Install a free web editor like Kompozzer or a free blogging site like Wordpress
Decide whether you want to use a web editor to build your website or if you would rather use a blog site. Both are easy to use and you don’t need to have any knowledge of HTML

If you decide to use Wordpress and you don’t want to write a daily weekly or monthly article…you can now make your site static, so it looks like a regular website and not a blog..

If you are an affiliate marketer and you are using Wordpress you will need a domain name as Wordpress will not allow you to use affiliate links on their free sites.

If you have a small business, building your list should be your number one priority, it doesn’t matter if your business in a traditional of-line store or is on-line, you still need to build a list of customers.

Building your list is one of those jobs that you have to develop the habit of working on every day…its a step by step process which pays huge dividends in the long term.

Look at list building as a long term investment and treat the people who have honoured you with their names and addresses,with respect, – add value to the emails you send them and don’t send spammy sales letters with every email.

Here are  seven simple ways to start building your list

1. If you don’t already have one…add an opt-in form to your website.

2. If you have a retail business, you have the perfect opportunity to collect names and addresseswhen your customer is paying for their purchase just ask them if they would like to receive your free newsletter or information about new products on special Do this with everyone either in person or over the phone.

3. If you attend Networking meetings…ask the people you meet if you may add them to your email list … never miss an opportunity to collect a name and email address.Tell them about your FREE newsletter or report

4. Offer incentives, give a way a free report or gift or guide. Just make sure that it is off value to the person.

5. Include a join my email list link in all of your online content. This can be on your email, your blog, articles you write.

6. Promote your business in all printed material including …business cards…letter heads … brochures and catalogues. You could say something like”register now for our free newsletter with tips to help grow your business”

7. Take care of your customers…make sure they have a way to contact you or someone in your office or store.

Has this happened to you? You have done all the hard work…you have created a great website, your auto responder has been set up with enough messages or newsletters for at least the next six months and has been programmed to go out to your customers every week like clockwork…now you can sit back and relax as you watch the dollars roll in?…. The problem is…no-one is buying.

Whenever I visit a new client and they tell me that they are not getting any results from their website, the first thing I do is look for their “Call to Action” and most of the time…they don’t have one! You must have something on your website which will lead your customer to the next step. For example: If your business is making curtains and blinds you might have “click here for your free measure and quite” button on every page of your website. If your visitor is on your site looking for new curtains, chances are, she will hit that button and contact you.

There are two things that will create success or failure for your web business.

They are:

1. Include a subscriber opt-in form on every page of your website. Offer a free newsletter, tutorial series, or e-book,.or have a “contact us” button. Make sure these are visible above the fold. Getting your prospects name and email address should be your first priority because these are the people you are going to build an ongoing relationship with, these are the people who are going to become loyal customers who will buy from you again and again, these are the people who are going to build your business for you by referring you to other people..

2. Your auto responder. You now have your new clients in your system. its time to start keeping in touch, this is why you have all these messages set up in your auto responder.

The biggest mistake I see marketers make with auto responders is trying to sell with every message they send. I promise you, if you do this all your hard work will be go down the drain – because people will un-subscribe, and un-subscribe fast.

Provide your clients with valuable information, your intention should be to build a relationship with your clients so that they look forward to receiving your newsletters, or informational series and actually open the mail.

By pointing your visitors in the direction you want them to go, and providing the best information you can, you will start to build a huge client base with masses of repeat business.

Is this a new scam? Internet marketing thieves are taking the title and the first paragraph of your articles…that,s right ..articles that you have put blood sweat and tears into.articles that you have written in the hope of being published on the first page of Google where you need to be if you want to make a living online.

I discovered by accident that one of my articles has been hijacked not by one, or two, but by three different websites.

What these people do is take the title and the first paragraph of articles written by you and use them on their own website or blog. By doing this every day and because there are so many new articles written every day, they are able to get rich on our hard work. (I am not sure how legal this is…but to me using any part of my article without my permission or using my resource box is theft)

They frequently get the number 1,2,& 3 positions in the search engines, knocking you out of the way.

I can only tell you of my experience…I found what I thought was an article I had written on the first page of Google with 2.7 million competition,in positions 1 & 2 but as I looked further into it the URL was quite strange, that’s when I discovered that 2 different websites had stolen my stuff. I then put the article in quotes and the first 7 positions have all been taken from my article. My original article is nowhere to be found, which makes me think Google suspects me of using duplicate copy, and penalizing me.

What concerns me and should concern every internet marketer out there, is the damage these low lives are causing … it seems to be so easy for them to take our material for their own benefit…and we are the ones being penalized. The fact is, every internet marketer needs to write articles if he/she want certain success on the internet and these low lives are stealing that away from you by hijacking your articles.

I am not quite sure about what to do regarding this, but I am going to start with  TWITTER and would ask that if you feel strongly enough about it, to do the same. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Today I am going to show you a four step system for building your internet business.

1. Start with a plan, what do you want to do… do you want to be an affiliate marketer, start a membership site, specialize in niche marketing, do you want to run an eBay business? These are just a few of the options available to you. The secret is choosing one and staying with it to completion before moving on to the next best thing.

My suggestion would be to choose a “broad” subject, something you like or are interested in, better still something you feel passionate about, and start building a list of people also interested in that topic.

2. Have a Weekly Action Plan: Once you have decided what it is you want to do, its time to establish how to get it done.
One of the things you could do is plan the action steps you need to take each week. Decide how many hours you want to work each day and give yourself enough time to achieve your goals.

I start every day by writing articles for my blog or ezine articles. This is such a simple way to get free traffic to your website and build your list at the same time.

Discipline Yourself: Stay on schedule, and get into a routine…having a routine will help you maintain the discipline you need to take action and is the easiest way to start seeing results. Give yourself the necessary time each day to take each action step.

4. Create Shortcuts. As you become more confident and become t better and better at working with your lists, creating products and tweaking your site,you’ll want to continue to improve your business with new strategies, and ideas The internet is changing every day: never stop learning!

Visit forums. Read articles. Download reports. Identify sites and resources that CONTRIBUTE to your success in educating you. You want faster results, bigger increases, automated processes,and other ways to get more accomplished and more profit, with less work involved.

The REAL secret to building a high-profit Internet Business depends on your developing a plan and sticking with it.

Forum marketing

Most people who visit forums are looking for information, you, as a marketer are in a position to help. Don’t take advantage and try to sell them right away, being in a forum is exactly the same as building your list, build a relationship first. Following are top tips by my favourite online marketing expert Chris Farrell.

Be positive.

People naturally gravitate to positive people. Post positive sounding posts. Don’t get personal about other users (even if you don’t agree with them) or products/services you don’t personally like. Everyone is trying to grow or create their business — it pays to be nice.

Visit your forum everyday and contribute. Get for being helpful. Try and give back when you can — rather than asking for help/advice all the time.

Don’t be scared. Ask questions. Get involved. Don’t be shy. Even if you are brand new — say that. Introduce yourself. Very quickly you WILL build up a supportive network on online friends.

Never post an ad on a forum!

Create a ’stand out’ signature file. A signature file is what you use to ’sign off’ your posts with. You can often make them as eye catching as possible. Be always on the lookout for people who you can connect with. Maybe they have a service that would help you market your site or maybe they are just fun people to get to know. Maybe they would benefit from your encouragement.

Forums are a lot of fun. You may get many leads from people who respond to your question publicly – or they may contact you privately through the forum (known as a PM – personal Message).

Sign up for as many forums as you can handle but try and spend no more than half an hour every day at your forum. Forums can get very addictive, and eat up a lot of your time. I log on once a day, maybe answer a few posts, maybe post a few, then log out.

If you find someone who you think (from reading their posts) would be a good person to approach to suggest helping each other to grow your respective business – send them a Personal Message. Just say hi. Mention that you enjoy reading their posts and would like to be friends.

Remember  – the web is called the web for a reason – it’s all about connecting people, forums are a place to find like minded individuals online.

Do I want to have just a single page , do I want a number of pages, do I want flashing bells and whistles, am I going to collect names and email address, will I need an opt-in form? How much is it going to cost, can I create a website  for free?
