Steve tausan nickname mr 187

Steve tausan nickname mr 187, Steve Tausan, a sergeant-at-arms member for the California Hells Angels who had been acquitted for murder in 1999, was apparently shot and killed while attending a funeral on Saturday for one of the bike gang's leaders, who was slain in a casino shootout in September.

San Jose Police will not disclose the name of the murder victim until the autopsy is complete and the family has been notified, which will happen Oct; 17. Tausan, however, has been identified by California news outlets as the victim in question, as well as by several witnesses.

Tausan, 52, who was a bail bondsman, was at a San Jose cemetery on Oct. 15, grieving for Jeffrey "Jethro" Pettigrew. Pettigrew has been the head of the Hells Angels' San Jose chapter, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

At around 1pm, despite a heavy police presence, an unknown gunman shot Tausan in front of thousands of stunned mourners. He died at a nearby hospital from his wounds, police said.

History of Violence
This is the latest in a string of well-documented shootings and similar violence surrounding the Hells Angels, who have been under suspicion by police for decades as a violent criminal street gang.

Pettigrew, 51, a friend of Tausan whose funeral was the site of the shooting, was shot by an alleged member of Vagos, a rival motorcycle gang. He died on Sept. 23 while attending a motorcycle festival, in a brawl at Nugget Casino in Sparks, Nev. near Reno. Ernesto Manuel Gonzalez, 53, has been charged with Pettigrew's murder.

Tausan himself, who was nicknamed "Mr. 187" after the California penal code for murder, also had a sordid history.

In 1999, he went on trial for murder in the savage beating of customer Kevin Sullivan at the Pink Poodle, a San Jose strip club in 1997. Tausan claimed Sullivan was harassing a dancer and insulting the Hells Angels when he stepped in. Sullivan then allegedly swung at Tausan, at which point both the Angels sergeant-at-arms and the club manager began to beat him.

Both Tausan and the club's manager were acquitted, with the jury agreeing at the trial that they acted in self-defense.

Following the 1999 trial, Mercury News reports that the police attempted a series of raids on the Hells Angels group, in an attempt to uncover evidence that the motorcycle gang was a criminal ring. The raids failed to uncover satisfactory evidence, and cost local governments $1.8 million in legal settlements when the Hells Angels filed a civil-rights lawsuit.

"You Never Do Anything at a Funeral."
Tausan recently told the San Jose Mercury News that he had received death threats following Pettigrew's violent slaying at the casino. Despite this, the throngs of police officers at the funeral was enough to make the funeral's attendees feel that nothing would happen.

Besides, the gangs' own codes were enough, many felt, to keep Tausan safe.

"I've known Hells Angels," witness Valerie Hoffman said, "and all the other groups for years and years. And there is a code of ethics."

"You never do anything at a funeral," she told NBC News. "I mean, that is just completely abominable."

In response to why the heavy police presence did not stop the shooting, San Jose police have remained guarded. "We can't be next to every individual," Spokesman Jose Garcia told reporters. "There were 4,000 people there."

He did say that the shooter may have fled. Some witnesses reported the suspect was attacked after the shooting, and then used the chaotic aftermath at the funeral to escape.

Police had been at the area largely as a precaution, to patrol and help with traffic congestion. "We had no credible information," Garcia said, "suggesting there would be violence."

Garcia has said that although Vagos may have been involved, it was too early to say whether the Hells Angels shootout was related to gang rivalries. In October, ten Vagos members were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and a spree of violent altercations in response to law enforcement raids along the Inland Empire, including numerous run-ins with the Hells Angels.

No one has been arrested for the slaying, and police say they have no suspects.

'Mind-blowing' sex can wipe memory

2011-10-12T13:15:00.000-07:00

'Mind-blowing' sex can wipe memory

'Mind-blowing' sex can wipe memory, A 54-year-old woman showed up in the emergency room at Georgetown University Hospital with her husband, unable to remember the past 24 hours. Her newer memories were hazy, too. One thing she did recall: Her amnesia had started right after having sex with her husband just an hour before.
While sex can be forgettable or mind-blowing, for some people, it can quite literally be both at the same time. The woman, whose case was reported in the September issue of The Journal of Emergency Medicine, was experiencing transient global amnesia, a rare condition in which memory suddenly, temporarily, disappears. +Mind blowing sex wipe memory,

People with transient global amnesia suffer no side effects, and the memory problems usually reverse themselves in the span of a few hours. It's a rare condition, affecting only about 3 to 5 people per 100,000 each year. But what makes transient global amnesia so eerie is that researchers aren't sure what causes it, or why patients remain otherwise chatty and alert while missing large chunks of their memories. [Inside the Brain:

A Journey Through Time] "We don't know very much about the cause," said Sebastian Ameriso, a neurologist at the Institute for Neurological Research in Buenos Aires, who was not involved in the 54-year-old woman's case. "It causes a lot of alarm, but this is not a stroke or an event that causes damage to the brain. It's almost always very benign." Mind-erasing activities Sex can trigger transient global amnesia, as can other physically strenuous activities. transient global amnesia 54-year-old woman ,

Transient global amnesia. People in their 50s and 60s are the most likely to experience an episode, but strangely, most people with transient global amnesia have it only once. In most cases, the amnesia is anterograde, meaning people have trouble forming new memories. Sometimes, people also experience transient retrograde amnesia, forgetting some portion of previous memories.

In the case of the 54-year-old woman at the Washington, D.C., hospital, the last day was a fog, and she had been forgetful and confused since having sex. As with most patients, the woman's brain scans using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) showed nothing unusual and no damage to the brain. By the time she left the emergency room, her symptoms were almost gone. The closest thing to an explanation researchers have for this sex-triggered amnesia is that the problem may not begin in the brain, but in the neck. transient global amnesia strenuous activities,

In a January 2010 study published in the journal Stroke, Ameriso and his colleagues conducted sonograms of the necks of 142 patients who'd experienced transient global amnesia within the last week. They found that 80 percent of the patients had what is called insufficiency of the valves in the jugular vein. This vein, which runs down the side of the neck, carries spent blood from the brain back to the heart. Valves in the veins prevent blood from flowing backward toward the head, but if the valves don't close sufficiently, blood could seep back upward.

The best guess for what might be happening is that patients unwittingly trigger the transient global amnesia by raising the pressure inside their abdomens. This is called the "Valsalva maneuver," familiar as the "bearing down" people might do when lifting weights, defecating or even having sex. The increased pressure increases the resistance to blood flowing down the jugular veins, and insufficient valves may allow deoxygenated blood to push back up the neck.

Oxygen-poor blood then "piles up" in the veins draining the brain, especially in central brain regions that are key to memory formation. The result could be transient amnesia. What this explanation doesn't cover is why most people with transient global amnesia experience it only once, Ameriso told Livescience. "This doesn't explain why this would happen only once while we do this Valsalva maneuver many times during the day," he said. Whatever the cause, transient global amnesia can be upsetting.

In one case reported in 1964, a man lost his memory the moment he orgasmed, causing him to exclaim, "Where am I? What's happened?" [10 Surprising Sex Statistics] People with transient global amnesia usually rush to the hospital in great distress, Ameriso said — which is not a bad thing, given that sudden memory loss can also herald a stroke or other serious neurological problems. For doctors and patients alike the most important thing is a quick diagnosis, Ameriso said. Otherwise, patients can languish in the hospital for days, waiting anxiously for test results.

Tree house causes stir, Tearing down 100-year-old oak and red cedar trees in a neighborhood named Woodley Park might seem like a bad idea.
To many residents of the Northwest Washington neighborhood, it's downright despicable. Evil. Rotten.

So you can imagine how residents felt this spring when Chevy Chase-based developer Zuckerman Partners purchased a five-bedroom house and land at 2910 Garfield St. NW for nearly $1.4 million and split the land to build two 5,000-square-foot homes on the site. Falls church tree house,

The Woodley Park Community Association fought the project, saying the plot is too small for two four-story mansions and argued that the homes wouldn't fit in with the rest of the modest brick three- and four-bedroom houses in the leafy community.

In August, a D.C. Superior Court judge ruled in favor of the developer, saying the company was within its rights to subdivide the property and clear the land. Zuckerman has agreed to pay $11,000 to the District's tree fund. falls church tree house front yard,

The yet-to-be-built houses are already on the market with asking prices of about $2 million and $2.3 million.

Council member Mary Cheh (D-Ward 3) said the developer has all the needed permits to continue with construction, leaving officials with their hands, or limbs, tied.

"I was hoping the residents could get some opportunity to express their extreme sadness about how these old trees that have been there forever are coming down," Cheh said. "I wasn't able to stop it."

New shipwreck treasure found

New shipwreck treasure found, A ship torpedoed during World War I while carrying a shipment of silver has been discovered 2,500m beneath the surface of the North Atlantic.

The SS Mantola sank in 1917, after being hit by German submarine U-81.

US firm Odyssey Marine Exploration located it off the south west coast of the Republic of Ireland, about 100 miles (160km) from where it found the SS Gairsoppa shipwreck last month.

It is estimated the Mantola is carrying more than 600,000 ounces of silver.

The silver would be worth about £12m at current market values.

The Gairsoppa contained an estimated seven million ounces of silver, said to be worth about £150m - the largest haul of precious metal ever discovered at sea.

It was during the recent expedition to search for the Gairsoppa, commissioned by the Department for Transport, that the Mantola was found.

The 450ft British flag steamer sailed from London on 4 February, 1917, bound for Calcutta in India. It was carrying 165 crew and 18 passengers, and the consignment of silver was among its general cargo. SS mantola silver 18 million, SS mantola wreck,

$200 million silver shipwreck. An unsuccessful attempt was made to tow the Mantola before she eventually sank on 9 February, less than a year after she was launched.

Taking risks

The Ministry of War Transport paid out a war risk insurance claim for £110,000 - in 1917 value - for the silver that was on board the Mantola.

The Department for Transport awarded Odyssey a salvage contract in September of this year for the ship's cargo.

Under the agreement, Odyssey will retain 80% of the net silver value recovered.

A DfT spokesperson said: "The contract for the salvage of the SS Mantola was awarded to Odyssey Marine Exploration after they discovered the wreck during their search for the SS Gairsoppa.

"While we do not comment on the specifics of such commercial arrangements, the rate of return on this contract is higher than average, with the salvage company taking all the risks and upfront costs."

The firm is planning to conduct the recovery expedition in conjunction with the recovery of the Gairsoppa, sunk by a German U-boat in 1941, and found 300 miles off the coast of Ireland.

The Gairsoppa was on its way back to Britain from India when it ran low on fuel in stormy weather, and tried to divert to Galway harbour, but it was spotted and sunk by the German submarine.

Greg Stemm, Odyssey's CEO, said: "The Mantola project is located at a depth range that we have a lot of experience in.

"We have information on the location of the cargo that should make this a great target for testing some new technology, that will be useful for a number of new deep-ocean projects we have planned."

Odyssey has begun assembling the necessary equipment for the salvage expedition for the Gairsoppa and Mantola, and is expected to begin its salvage work in the spring of next year.

In 1971, Larry published nude pictures of the American First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy. This gave the magazine an instant push, over a million copies were sold in a few days.

Larry Flynt was suspected to have suffered from bipolar disorder, though not much is said about it. Eager to enlist in the army even at a tender age, he lied about his age. He worked hard and attained wealth by the time he was 23. One writer described him as having a “Pathological need to give offense” as is reflected in the numerous lawsuits brought up against him. Offensiveness is one characteristic exhibited by the manic depressive. Flynts love for p***ographic material also provides evidence of his depression. He was quoted as saying that he believed sexual repression is the root of the world's problems; he might be referring to himself. Flynt used to work 20 hours a day when he started operating the Hustler bars, taking amphetamines to keep him awake.

Flynt has married five times and has four children. He run for public office several times but was unsuccessful. He also escaped an assassination attempt. He is now confined to a wheelchair due to paralysis.

Mickey Rooney eight marriages

2011-10-10T11:31:00.001-07:00

Mickey Rooney eight marriages, Rooney has been married eight times. In the 1950s and 1960s, he was often the subject of comedians' jokes for his alleged inability to stay married. His current marriage, to Jan Chamberlin, has lasted more than 30 years which is longer than his previous seven marriages combined.

In 1942, he married Hollywood starlet Ava Gardner, but the two were divorced well before she became a star in her own right. While stationed in the military in Alabama in 1944, Rooney met and married local beauty queen Betty Jane Phillips. This marriage ended in divorce after he returned from Europe at the end of World War II. His subsequent marriages to Martha Vickers (1949) and Elaine Mahnken (1952) were also short-lived and ended in divorce. In 1958, Rooney married Barbara Ann Thomason, but tragedy struck when she was murdered in 1966. Falling into deep depression, he married Barbara's friend, Marge Lane, who helped him take care of his young children. The marriage lasted only 100 days. He was married to Carolyn Hockett from 1969 to 1974, but financial instability ended the relationship. Finally, in 1978, Rooney married Jan Chamberlin, his eighth wife. As of 2011[update], they live in Westlake Village, California. Both are outspoken advocates for veterans and animal rights.

After battling drug addiction and a near bankruptcy caused by gambling and bad investments,[16] Rooney became a born-again Christian in the 1970s, after an unusual encounter with a busboy in a casino coffee shop. Rooney shared his religious beliefs on Jim and Tammy Bakker's Christian television show, The PTL Club.

Rooney's oldest child, Mickey Rooney, Jr., is a born-again Christian, and has an evangelical ministry in Hemet, California. He and several of Rooney's other eight children have worked at various times in show business. One of them, actor Tim Rooney, died in 2006, aged 59.

On September 21, 2005, just days after the death of Liza Minnelli's ex-stepfather, Sid Luft, where he attended his service, Rooney celebrated his 85th birthday at the Regent Theater in Arlington, Massachusetts, where his wife appeared with him in a play titled Let's Put On A Show.

On September 23, 2010, Rooney celebrated his 90th birthday at Feinstein's at Loews Regency in the Upper East Side of New York City. Among the people who were attending the party were: Donald Trump, Regis Philbin, Nathan Lane, Tony Bennett and Jan Rooney, who threw the party for him. In December 2010 he was honored as Turner Classic Movies Star of the Month.

On February 16, 2011, Rooney was granted a temporary restraining order against Christopher Aber, one of Jan Rooney's two sons from a previous marriage. On March 2, 2011 Rooney appeared before a special U.S. Senate committee that was considering legislation to curb elder abuse. Rooney stated that he was financially abused by an unnamed family member. On March 27, 2011, all of Rooney's finances were permanently handed over to lawyers over the claim of missing money.

In April 2011, the temporary restraining order that Rooney was previously granted was voluntarily withdrawn as a result of a confidential settlement between Rooney and his stepson.[23] Christopher Aber and Jan Rooney have denied all the allegations

Car dealer takes horses as trade

2011-10-07T13:08:00.000-07:00

Car dealer takes horses as trade, With the economy in the dumps, used cardealers are having to get creative with the trade-ins. There's long been used cardealers advertising they'll take any trade that's "push, pulled, or dragged." One dealership is adding trots to that phrase, as they're now accepting horses.

WTOG reports that recently a woman entered the dealership who was in search of large used van for her family. However, the only thing she had to her name that might be worth anything in a trade was a horse. The dealership, happy to make a sale, accepted the horse. The family has a van, and the horse, thankfully, was not taken to the kill pen, which is what GitEmSteveDave calls an "equine scrap yard." The horse has new owners and a nice farm that it hangs out on and nibbles grass at. Car dealer takes horses as trade, +car dealership trade horse, buckskin quarter horse, car dealer horse trade planes, artwork jewelry,

The dealership has also accepted other unusual trades recently as well. In place of cash, they've taken a mobile home, autographed sports memorabilia, artwork, and jewelry. I wonder what kind of car I get for this bucket full of broken dreams.

CA pot dispensaries to close?

CA pot dispensaries to close?

CA pot dispensaries to close? Federal prosecutors in California are cracking down on some of the state's medical marijuana dispensaries, signaling an escalation of the ongoing conflict between the U.S. government and the nation's burgeoning medical marijuana industry.

The four U.S. attorneys in California, the first state to pass a law legalizing marijuana use for patients with doctors' recommendations, have scheduled a joint news conference Friday where they plan to "outline actions targeting the sale, distribution and cultivation of marijuana."

Their offices refused to provide details in advance what moves the officials are taking or how many of the state's hundreds of storefront pot shops would be affected. But at least 16 pot shops or their landlords received letters this week warning face they would face criminal charges and confiscation of their property if the dispensaries do not shut down in 45 days. +Feds CA pot dispensaries, +CA pot dispensaries violating federal laws,

The Associated Press obtained copies of the letters that a prosecutor sent to at least 12 San Diego dispensaries. They state that federal law "takes precedence over state law and applies regardless of the particular uses for which a dispensary is selling and distributing marijuana."

"Under United States law, a dispensary's operations involving sales and distribution of marijuana are illegal and subject to criminal prosecution and civil enforcement actions," according to the letters signed by U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy in San Diego. "Real and personal property involved in such operations are subject to seizure by and forfeiture to the United States ... regardless of the purported purpose of the dispensary."
The move comes a little more than two months after the Obama administration toughened its stand on medical marijuana. For two years before that, federal officials had indicated they would not move aggressively against dispensaries in compliance with laws in the 16 states where pot is legal for people with doctors' recommendations. +16 CA pot dispensaries feds,

The Department of Justice issued a policy memo to federal prosecutors in late June stating that marijuana dispensaries and licensed growers in states with medical marijuana laws could face prosecution for violating federal drug and money-laundering laws. The effort to shutter California dispensaries appeared to be the most far-reaching effort so far to put that guidance into action.

Greg Anton, a lawyer who represents dispensary Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana, said its landlord received an "extremely threatening" letter Wednesday invoking a federal law that imposes additional penalties for selling drugs within 1,000 feet of schools, parks and playgrounds. does federal law supercede state law, CA pot dispensaries to close?,

The landlord was ordered to evict the 14-year-old pot club or risk imprisonment, plus forfeiture of the property and all the rent he has collected while the dispensary has been in business, Anton said.

Kris Hermes, a spokesman for the medical marijuana advocacy group Americans for Safe Access, said the warnings are part of what appears to be an attempt by the Obama administration to curb medical marijuana on multiple fronts and through multiple agencies. A series of dispensary raids in Montana, for example, involved agents from not only the FBI and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, but the Internal Revenue Service and Environmental Protection Agency.

Going after property owners is not a new tactic though, Hermes said. Five years ago, the Department of Justice under President George W. Bush made similar threats to about 300 Los Angeles-area landlords who were renting space to medical marijuana outlets, some of whom were eventually evicted or closed their doors voluntarily, he said.

"It did have an impact. However, the federal government never acted on its threats, never prosecuted anybody, never even went to court to begin prosecutions," Hermes said. "By and large, they were empty threats, but they relied on them and the cost of postage to shut down as many facilities as they could without having to engage in criminal enforcement activity."

The San Diego medical marijuana outlets put on notice were the same dozen that city officials sued last month for operating illegally, after activists there threatened to force an election on a zoning plan adopted to regulate the city's fast-growing medical marijuana industry, City Attorney Jan Goldsmith said. A judge on Wednesday ordered nine of the targeted shops to close, while the other three shut down voluntarily, Goldsmith said.

Duffy, the U.S. attorney for far Southern California, planned to issue warning letters to property owners and all of the 180 or so dispensaries that have proliferated in San Diego in the absence of compromise regulations, according to Goldsmith.

"The real power is with the federal government," he said. "They have the asset forfeiture, and that means either the federal government will own a lot of property or these landlords will evict a lot of dispensaries."

First look at 'evil queen' julia roberts

First look at 'evil queen' julia roberts

First look at 'evil queen' julia roberts, It looks like Oscar-winning costume designer Eiko Ishioka has been working overtime on Tarsem‘s upcoming and still-untitled Snow White movie. This summer we got our first look at Lily Collins in the lead role, outfitted in a pretty elaborate and eye-catching dress and now, the first images of Julia Roberts as the evil Queen have arrived from Entertainment Weekly and Yahoo. She’s going to need the seven dwarves just to carry the train on that thing.

With the release date looming just five short months from now, Tarsem is under the gun to get his film finished but if these latest pics prove anything, it’s that despite having a rival film “Snow White And The Huntsman” over at Universal that’s currently shooting, these two movies will be worlds apart. From the set pics that have leaked so far for ‘Huntsman’ it essentially looks like “Robin Hood” starring Bella Swan, but Relativity‘s picture will strike a tone between adventure and comedy, with Snow White teaming up with a pack of seven dwarfs to take on her evil stepmother who has destroyed the kingdom and killed her father.

“She’s the cat that ate the canary,” Tarsem told EW about the Queen in the film adding, “She outsources her evil, just like most people. I wanted a person who is just schizophrenic. She’s a person who would just do all the evil she needs to do to stay in power.”

The strong cast is rounded out by Sean Bean as the King, Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew Alcott and Nathan Lane as the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton. You can take a look at the first pics of Hammer and Lane below as well, and is it just us, or does Collins look a lot like Audrey Hepburn here? Anyway, the movie is moving quickly towards its March 16, 2012 release date and we presume at some point, somebody will give it a name. First look at 'evil queen' julia roberts,

Condo ownership advice

Condo ownership advice

Condo ownership advice, Buying a condominium can be an affordable entry to home ownership for young professionals, and it can also provide a luxury maintenance-free lifestyle for high-income individuals. Condominium buying can be a complex topic, though; there are many factors that you should take into consideration when you're shopping for condominiums. The best condominium buying advice is to read the condominium documents.
When a condominium association is established, the association must file condominium documents containing important information about how the association handles different situations. When you're thinking about condominium buying, consider how the association handles repairs to common areas, utilities, condo fees, pets and dispute resolution. If the condominium doesn't have procedures in place to deal with these events, you could find yourself in an argument about important repairs or condo fees. Make sure these areas are clearly spelled out to avoid problems down the road, and if you have pets, pay close attention to pet provisions.

When you're considering condominium buying, read meeting minutes and budgets.
You can get a good idea of how your condominium association runs by reviewing old meeting minutes. When you're considering condominium buying, ask to review at least two years of condominium association meeting minutes. Look for any recent building improvements or plans for future building improvements. Check for special fee levies and condominium reserves. Is the condominium ready to address potential emergencies? Are there big improvement projects in the future that are going to cost you money?

Meet your neighbors when you're considering condominium buying.
When you're buying a condominium, you're locked into living with your neighbors for the duration of your mortgage or until you can find a buyer. Therefore, it's vitally important for you to meet your neighbors and determine whether you want to live in the condominium. Is it mostly owner-occupied, or do many owners rent their condominiums out? If you live in a heavily owner-occupied building, you'll see a lot more accountability than if the building is full of renters. If your condominium is adjacent to renters, you could have wonderful renters as neighbors when you move in, only to be replaced with kids who frequently throw loud parties just a year down the road. Take this into account when you're considering condominium buying.

Condominium buying means a virtually maintenance-free lifestyle.
When you buy a condominium, you're really only responsible for maintaining the inside of your unit. Exterior building maintenance, common areas, plumbing and electrical problems and large building repairs are all the responsibility of the condominium association. Exterior building maintenance includes snow removal, landscaping and painting. When you're considering condominium buying, make sure you know how the condominium handles building maintenance. Do they contract for prompt snow removal, or are you stuck with thigh-high snow drifts until someone gets around to calling a snow plow? Is there a dedicated maintenance committee or management company, or is it a small condominium association with poor accountability? Check these things before buying a condo.

Study says cortisone may prevent PTSD

Study says cortisone may prevent PTSD

Study says cortisone may prevent PTSD, As soldiers return home from tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, America must cope with the toll that war takes on mental health. But the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is becoming increasingly expensive, and promises to escalate as yet another generation of veterans tries to heal its psychological wounds.

New hope for preventing the development of PTSD has been uncovered by Prof. Joseph Zohar of Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine and the Sheba Medical Center, in collaboration with Prof. Hagit Cohen from Ben-Gurion University -- and the key is a single dose of a common medication.

When a person suffers trauma, the body naturally increases its secretion of cortisone. Taking this natural phenomenon into account, Prof. Zohar set out to discover what a single extra dose of cortisone could do, when administered up to six hours after test subjects experienced a traumatizing event. The results, which will be published in the journal European Neuropsychopharmacology in October 2011, indicate that the likelihood that the patient will later develop PTSD is reduced by 60 percent. Study says cortisone may prevent PTSD, +cortisone PTSD,

Opening the window of opportunity
In most psychiatric conditions, it is impossible to establish a precise point of time at which the disorder manifested, Prof. Zohar says. But PTSD is unique in that is has an easily established timeline, beginning from the moment a patient experiences trauma. This makes PTSD eligible for treatment in the "golden hours" -- a medical term that defines the precious few hours in which treatment can be most beneficial following a trauma, heart attack, stroke, or medical event. Receiving treatment in this window of opportunity can be critical.
In their animal models, Prof. Zohar and his fellow researchers first began treating PTSD in the window of opportunity up to six hours after a traumatic event. Two groups of rats were exposed to the smell of a cat, and one group was treated with cortisone after the event. post-traumatic stress disorder, cortisol and brain,

Following promising results with the rats, the researchers initiated a double-blind study in an emergency room, in which trauma victims entering the hospital were randomly assigned to receive a placebo or the cortisone treatment. Follow-up exams took place two weeks, one month, and three months after the event. Those patients who had received a shot of cortisone were more than sixty percent less likely to develop PTSD, they discovered.

Mimicking Mother Nature
When searching for a treatment method for PTSD, Prof. Zohar took his cue from Mother Nature. Most people who survive a traumatic experience don't develop PTSD because the cortisone that our body naturally produces protects us from developing the condition. But the right dose of cortisone at the right time could prove a source of secondary prevention for PTSD, he posited, helping along a natural process. cortisone PTSD 6 hours,

His approach also may circumvent the harm caused by dosing traumatised patients with other pharmaceuticals. In the emergency room, traumatized patients are often given medications such as Valium or Xanax, aimed at calming them down. In fact, Prof. Zohar says, these pills interfere with our natural and potent recovery process, hindering the secretion of cortisone. "Looking at the long term effect, people who received these medications had a greater chance of developing PTSD than those who did not," he explains.

Prof. Zohar will expand this small pilot study with a $1.3 million dollar grant from the National Institute of Mental Health. He and his fellow researchers are teaming up with Prof. Rachel Yehuda of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, who will help them uncover the biochemical processes and underlying mechanisms of cortisone treatments for traumatized patients.

People who suffer from PTSD are haunted by their traumatic memories; for them, the past is always present, Prof. Zohar explains. Cortisone, given at the right dose at the right time, may alleviate the power of these traumatic memories by preventing their consolidation.

Jodie Marsh ends man drought

2011-10-06T01:40:00.000-07:00

Jodie Marsh ends man drought

Jodie Marsh ends man drought, We've seen some celebrity makeovers in our time, but this one beats them all hands down.

Jodie Marsh, formerly known for her curves and tendency to hit the town wearing nothing more than a couple of strategically placed belts, has reinvented herself as a bodybuilder - and her new look is absolutely jaw-dropping.

Last month Jodie entered the Natural Physique Association (NPA) Mike Williams Classic and Pro-Am Bodybuilding Championships after just eight weeks of intensive training.

Yes, that's right - she got this body in just eight weeks.

Jodie has shrunk from a size 12 to a tiny size 6 thanks to a gruelling diet and exercise routine - and she came fifth in the competition.

Earlier today, Jodie appeared on This Morning where she revealed that she works out for six hours every day and drinks seven protein shakes to help her build muscle.

She said: "I do three hours of cardio, two hours of weights and one hour of abs a day. I also do an hour of posing and routine work."

As a vegetarian she says that she's struggled to get the protein she needs to help build up her muscles. That's why she's been guzzling protein shakes and has been eating 15 egg whites every day to help her bulk up.

She has cut out carbohydrates altogether, but she says it's all been worth it.

Jodie says: "This is the best I've ever felt, and the best my body has ever felt too.

"In just 50 days I have gone from 25 per cent body fat to 10 per cent body fat, gained eight pounds of muscle and lost 20 pounds of fat. In eight weeks I have achieved what normally takes six to nine months. Jodie Marsh ends man drought,

"I'm really happy I'm going home with a trophy. If I can do this in eight weeks, competing against the best in the UK, then what else can I achieve with more training time?

"I'm 100 per cent confident that if I had more time to train I could have placed in the top three and go through to finals. We'll have to see what happens next year!"

Jodie also says that her new look has helped to end her 'man drought'.

She told The Sun: "I've never attracted so much interest from blokes in my life. It's been a real eye-opener. For the last two years I went through a complete drought of men.

"No one was chatting me up. I despaired of ever having a boyfriend, or even a date, again. But since I became a bodybuilder, I've suddenly got about 50 guys interested in me."

Under the guidance of her trainer Tim Sharp, Jodie's eight-week regime saw her sticking to a strict diet and cutting out all alcohol.

She says: "I started training with a personal trainer called Tim Sharp last December in my local gym.

"At first I just wanted to lose weight and tone up - I was soft all over. But within two weeks, I had definition in my stomach.

"As I saw my body changing, I really liked my muscles and as Tim is a bodybuilder, it just went from there. I feel a million dollars.

"I feel proud of myself. I've always been confident, but I've had moments where I haven't wanted people to see me naked."

On his website, Tim Sharp says: "I can transform your body in weeks NOT months or years! I have 24 years of experience as a trainer so you're assured to be inspired and you will get amazing results fast.

"If you want maximum fat loss in weeks, look no further. The world's best athletes and celebrities trust me to get them in shape fast."

It looks like Tim's as good as his word as Jodie insists that her new look is all down to hard work.

She told This Morning: "My body is 100 per cent natural and I'm proud of that, because I could have gone down the steroid route but I wouldn't want to.

"In pictures you can't tell how big someone is and in those I look like some 16-stone beast of a man.

"But I'm just toned, I'm a size six, eight stone, 5ft 2in. You can see that I'm not huge."

Jason Biggs and Hooker

2011-10-02T13:47:00.001-07:00

Jason Biggs and Hooker

Jason Biggs and Hooker, They say that things can sometimes become stale in a marriage. But it is unlikely that many people resort to hiring prostitutes after just a year like American Pie star Jason Biggs, 33, and his wife Jenny Mollen.
The actress, whose biggest role was as minor character Nina Ash in TV show Angel, wrote a lengthy blog about their sexual escapades on website The SmokingJacket.

To push the sleaze quotient even higher, the internet site is affiliated with soft porn magazine, Playboy.

In an article full of foul language, she describes how she 'wanted to do something special for his birthday,' and as a year 'in Gemini years is like 12' she decided to hire a prostitute.

She opens the article writing: 'So my husband and I got a whore.

'I’m hoping, unless you’re some sick depraved dissolute of a person, this isn’t the kind of thing you hear everyday.

'If it is, f*** you, I thought it was pretty gangster.'

In the story, which seems strangely contrived, she then goes into great depths explaining their sordid experiences.

The first person she hires is a masseuse recommended by a friend, but turns out to be a professional massage expert, much to her disappointment.
The 32-year-old said her friend, 'set me up', adding: 'The entire hour she wouldn’t shut up about my rotator cuff and various bulging discs.

'As the night progressed, I did manage to get her drunk. Only to trap myself with her.'

She then tried again the next day when they went to Las Vegas, and they had more success, though it was not what she was looking for.

After arranging to meet a girl who caught her eye, the couple checked into a hotelcalled The Four Seasons.

Unfortunately they were disappointed again, as 'Eva' looked nothing like her photoand was a 'three foot tall Filipino.'

Again an unfortunate incident got in the way of their tryst.

After giving the girl $300, Jason went to withdraw more money from the cash machine, only to discover he could not take any more out for the day.

The girl refused to accept a cheque and left the couple.

They decided to try their luck again the next day, this time having more luck with a girl called Keisha.

This time they paid her $600 and she performed a sex act on Jason, with Jenny then joining in.

However the experience did not live up to their fantasy, and they were soon bored.
