As most find out when marketing on Facebook, some members of your fan base are a little less than enthusiastic at times. It’s not at all uncommon for a fan or a customer to become disgruntled, and they may choose to take out their frustrations on one of your page posts via negative feedback.

Receiving negative comments on Facebook is just something that comes with the territory unfortunately. All you can do is quickly handle the situation and work to turn a negative situation into a positive one. And while that sounds as if it’s easier said than done, there are some tricks to help you pull it off seamlessly. Tricks to Dealing with Negative Feedback…

Avoid Deleting Comments Unless Really Negative

Believe it or not, deleting comments may just make the situation worse. Not only could this cause the disgruntled individual in question to come back even stronger, but it could also signal to other fans that you’re not willing to hear people out if their voice leans negative.

You should never delete negative comments unless they are truly offensive. If the comment isn’t sexist, bigoted, pornographic or vulgar in some other way, you should let it stand.

Always Offer up a Thoughtful Response

Now that you know to leave the comment standing, it’s time to address the commenter with a thoughtful response. Don’t simply offer up some kind words in a condescending tone. You should be genuinely worried about why this commenter is desponded or angry, and you should subsequently seek to find out what’s on this user’s mind.

Business marketing on Facebook comes with its ups and downs; regardless, you have to be thoughtful in your approach and seek to start a real conversation with the individual in question.

Be Polite and Say “Please” and “Thank You”

In your response to the commenter, it’s important that you show a gracious side. Saying things like “please” and “thank you” might be labeled platitudes, but they’re important in a conversation. When coupled with real dialogue and genuine interest, a phrase like “thank you” goes a long way to making the commenter feel as if he or she matters to your business. This is hopefully going to take the conversation in a more positive direction.

Reach Out to Frustrated Parties Privately

There is no reason at all to air your dirty laundry in the public arena. Although your initial response may come via your Facebook page and in full view of the public, you should still follow up in a private message to figure out exactly what the problem is.

Reaching out to the commenter on a personal level shows a deeper level of commitment on your part. It also keeps the back-and-forth away from prying eyes.

Users can post stuff for sale, find local businesses, things to do, etc. The site is barely a month old and is already getting 70+ hits per day… Needless to say, we’ve used the experience we’ve gained over the years creating websites for ourselves this time.

We also changed the domain name to be better for Search Engine Optimization… it went from the middle of page two for the keywords, “tucson real estate” and “tucson real estate for sale” to the bottom and middle of page one, respectively. We’re still climbing for those keywords, so check back later ;-)

We created this website for “Epiphany Health” in Cortez, CO. We created the website using the domain name, “cortezmuscletesting.com”, so it would be Search Engine Optimized for those keywords. It worked… the first 5 results on page one of Google are pages on the website when you search, “cortez muscle testing.” Clients don’t always listen to us when we recommend stuff like this, but the ones who do are pleased with the results.

I created this website for myself, to show off my art. It has a snazzy portfolio feature that allows people to sort through the different types of art I create. I guess you can say that it’s Search Engine Optimized, too, because it shows up on top of page one when you search my name, “Derek Alvarez.” ;-)

The entire website has been completed with the exception of one thing… a bank account hasn’t been attached to take orders. We’ve added 167 pages of helpful info related to health food, which helps the website get over 300 visits per month because of people searching for keywords like, “calcium” and “echinacea purpurea.” We can’t wait to see it fully up and running when Dyanna is ready to get it rolling!

We created this website for Terini Travel when we lived in Saranda, Albania last year. We also created the logo and we set the website up to be Search Engine Optimized for Saranda, Albania tourism keywords. We also set up a translation button so people can view the pages in different languages. Oh yeah… they also show up right under Wikipedia when people search “sarande albania” because of how we set their site up!

We created this website for a hotel in Saranda, Albania when we were living there last year. “Hotel Palma e Arte” means “Palms and Gold” in English… so we used that idea for the color scheme. The logo was custom-designed by us and we added a translator so people could view the site in Albanian or English.
