How's it going?

I'm writting this post only to inform: from now to I don't know when I won't be around here anymore... The thing is I passed the tests to enter the jewelry training cycle, so I'm dedicating practically all my time and effort in researching and acquiring new knowlegde :)

I'll peek through social networks whenever I can, I'll post one or two new pieces on Etsy and I'll inform you about my progress.

And of course, if you have any order, question or suggestion, you still can contact me ;)

How's it going?

I'm reappearing in the blog after a short summer break with chilly news: I've spent this last month in improve my creative arts and I've learned a lot crafting two veeery special custom pieces in .999 silver, a ring and an articulated pendant. I'm really proud of them! Shortly I'll post a pair of pictures so you can give me your opinion ^^

How's it going?

Have you ever heard about "Spring Cleaning"? Well, *basically* that's what I've been doing during this last month...

I don't remember how it began (maybe when I was sitting in front of my laptop and I said to me thinking about it, I would remove this from here and put it on there, or when I looked through the window and I decided to make a new shelf to the balcony, I don't know) but the point is that almost without realizing I've been linking "small house changes"... and I finished reversing the entire house.

To sum up: I've dedicated little or nothing to crafting new ooaks.

So to liven up the blog while I catch the march of a thousand party demons again, I'm going to introduce briefly some of the pieces I've listed on Etsy:

How's it going?

Many times, although I have like a million of sketched designs and another million riped for the picking, I sit in front of my working table to craft... and I forget about sketches and everything: one piece here, another there and let's give imagination a push!

And although I would like to say "I'm going to focus on make this piece-to-be" and make it, the fact of haven't a predetermined route gives me a boundless creative freedom that often results in really interesting and original creations...

"Baroque" choker -SOLD-

It's the case of this "Baroque" choker, that arose by chance while I was finishing an order of some bookmarks (that's why the satin ribbon is the same in both pieces).

A simple, lightweight and comfortable choker in gothic/victorian/steampunk style.
It fastens in the back by a ribbon, which makes it easier to adjust to the neck contour.

It also has a matching bracelet...

...and it's available in a lot of different colours! ^^

What to say, it seems to me a beautiful design.

How's it going?

Good news because today, finally, I return to my weekly blog posts! ^^

Yes, I know: this time my ususal winter lethargy has taken more than two months... But I haven't been on holidays! I've read, instructed myself, researched, learned new techniques and improved my knowledge :)

I also practiced a little with silver PMC (I've an important order and I'd like to get the highest details level) and I created a few new pieces to warm things up like my first belly piercing, "The Strange":

How's it going?

For some time now I can't deny the obvious: it doesn't matter how much costs me to find time, how much effort it takes, I want to keep creating, learning and improving myself with Ooak Craft.

For almost four years I've had the great fortune of counting on the continued support of some people around me that has encouraged me whenever I've needed (boyfriend, father, mother, sisters, friends... thanks!)

If it hadn't been for those encouragement (and some other motivational boost) today I probably woudn't be writing this post... So, I'm pleased to announce that, without leaving my costume jewelry facet, from today I'll create my own precious metal custom pieces :)

What are precious metals?
In my case silver, bronze and copper, at least by the moment!

What material and method will I use to make them?
I'll use PMC or "precious metal clay" in order to make this custom pieces.
PMC is a moldable material containing fine noble metal particles. This amalgam can be modeled and sculpted as if it was clay, and it becomes pure metal when it's fired in a kiln. Imagine the potential of this invention!

What kind of pieces can be modeled?
Any small-medium piece can be modeled, as they're necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, belt buckles, cufflinks, circlets, charms, little figures, small plaques...

Cyber-recycling II

How's it going?

I keep on recycling, I keep on designing; my imagination flies high, I lack hands to disassemble electro-junk and assemble cyber-ooaks!

For this new release of cyber-recycled pieces I created a practical pocket mirror from a broken hard disk, a printed circuit and a pair of meters of copper wire:

The hard disk is protected by a soft translucent acrylic plate.
The hinged frontal cover (from the metallic structure that used to support the hard disk itself) is copper wire stitched to a printed circuit, and the small handle is made in multicolored wire from the cord of an useless optical mouse.

But as a leopard never changes its spots, in this post couldn't be missing an original piece of technological recycled costume jewelry:

I turn the intrincated blue board of a small LCD screen into an industrial style bracelet made in black leather recycled from discards and an "easy to close" stainless steel clasp... and the rest is history!

How's it going?

I like to recycle.
I mentioned it the day I inaugurated this blog and I'm still thinking the same!

Until now and always I was able, I've recycled broken or discarded costume jewelry pieces, leather scraps and many other "useless" materials, transforming them into new and original ooakcrafts like my "Hardware" necklace, the "Goddess" belt or this "Noche" set.

This time I've taken another step and I've set myself to reuse circuits, optical readers, led lights, chips and all kinds of electronic waste in order to create the industrial style cyber-recycled costume jewelry collection...

How's it going?

Inspiration can assault us anywhere, anytime and at any season of the year; there's no valid schedule, it has no appointment, no assigned moment...

And I love it.

I love, above all, how it floods me with its stream in late summer, early fall, late in the afternoon... like a pair of days ago, when I created the "Rule of Dahlia" choker and the "O(o)ak fruits" earrings:

I'm still making custom orders, but what I say... they're more like challenges!

That's because Ziad thought I could make a leather harness for his boots with no problems... But he came at home for help me, just in case XD

We created it from scratch: we cut necessary leather pieces, added some decorations, a chain and a buckle and finished it with rivets...

How's it going?

There are two kind of pieces in Ooak Craft: those entirely created as I please, and custom orders.

Custom orders are ideas arisen from your minds that pass through my hands and become in unique pieces that only exist thanks to the both sides: you plant the seed and I try to grow it up my best :)

I've had a lot of orders through the years... First was from a workmate; later I did custom orders for friends, relatives, fellow artisans, even for Victoria Francés!

But there's still lots of custom pieces that I haven't showed you yet...

"Tarot card" earrings for Frederique Philie

...like this Tarot cards earrings Frederique commissioned me to gift her mother in her birthday ^^

Frederique thought at the last moment it would be cool to add some peridot beads to the earrings (peridot is the birthstone of her mother) in order to give them a personal touch... And she got it right, because design was improved ;)

"Calaveras" bracelet for Epi

Or Epi, who saw a small silvered skull in one of my creations and thought it would be great put together a bunch of those skulls to make a bracelet... Well, he was right!

But not all the custom orders are made from scratch: a lot of them are variations from already existing pieces...

How's it going?

Today I realized I still haven't talked you about one of my most requested creations to date, the "Luna" circlet:

"Luna" circlet -SOLD-

Since the beginning, my will was to create ooakcrafts, unrepeatable and unique pieces with its own personality. However, after a few months I understood this was something partially impossible...

That's because if a design works (when several people ask you for "that beautiful hair comb" or "that circlet you already sold") it's very difficult just make only one piece.

That's the case of my "Luna" circlet, that it's always available by popular demand on my Etsy shop, as it happened with my "Moon Deer" hair comb or my "Pata de cuervo" earrings.

The circlet itself has a very simple design (a silvered half-moon as a centerpiece and chains adorned by small beads); is its meaning and its multiple interpretations what can be given which turns it into a special piece...

"The moon, in addition to our satellite, has always been a focus at night, and all the cultures that have inhabited the Earth have always given it the category of deity, blaming or worshiping its influence on humans, the Earth itself, or the creatures that inhabit it.

Their cycles last 28 days, like the menstrual period of women, which made it had a great worship in fertility cults in antiquity. In almost every culture it has been given a female character, and many others some dark or antagonist to the Sun component.

By its effects on canines and many animals, it's also credited with the power of change within the anthropomorphic beasts like the wolf man, while it was always awarded an esoteric side when performing covens and invocations in full moon. "

The Triple Goddess who dwells within me

How's it going?

Yesterday I showed you the preview from a very special new piece: the recycled leather belt "Goddess".

And I say it's special for several reasons: first of all, because it's my first "serious" leather piece. It may seem silly, but I haven't realized how little I knew about how to work leather until I made "Goddess" belt...

Those who know me know I'm self-taught; I haven't taken any classes, I haven't studied about it. I investigate, I test and I learn from my mistakes, and working the leather properly was a pending issue not yet concluded but upgraded at least two levels ;)

On the other hand, "Goddess" is a recycled leather piece.

That means I used leather discards (Argan oil treated to give a little shine) and an old unusable Balenciaga belt in its manufacturing.

"Goddess" has two pieces (a rear simple belt and a front piece adorned with a silvered triple moon) that fasten to the sides by black cotton ribbon topped with black fringes.

May the light, love and wisdom will endure in my day to day
allowing me to always feel the Triple Goddess who dwells within me.

Today, in the Earth Day, I would like to propose you another kind of DIY tutorial that has nothing to do with jewelry, but with recycling!

Did you know the most of fruits and vegetables we usually eat

can be regrown from kitchen scraps?

Quite so: garlics, onions, scallions, mushrooms, pineapples or potatoes are some of the food that regrow easily from kitchen waste.

Would you want to know how to grow them in your own home? Follow instructions below, keep sure you use fresh scraps (no way composting for weeks waste) and regrow at your pleasure! ;)

How's it going?

This week, as always, I spread my time pretty good: I went into the blog ready to write a post, but then I came up with the idea of including an individual link in each post for redirecting from english version to spanish one and vice versa... And I worked on it, and now you can read this same post in spanish by clicking in the "Leer este post en español" you can see in the top right.

Then I noticed the mobile version wasn't configured... And I worked on it, and now you can read www.eng.ooakcraft.es from your cell phone quickly and comfortably.

Today I remembered I was going to write a post two days ago, and I finally worked on it!

How's it going?

All artists are supposed to go through several stages along their lives... I don't know if I'm an artist, but I know the name of my current stage (because it's clear I'm going through a stage): "Full dark, no stars", like the Stephen King book.

It must be said, blame it on the onyx coloured patina for metal I bought about two months ago, that once you ink something you need to ink everything in sight...

Recycled keys of BioShock inspired "The shining city below the sea" set, for instance, are inked by this patina and enhanced by the 'Weathered copper' trio (moss, jade and verdigris colours) that gives them that cool corroded-by-sea look:

fell into the clutches of the onyx patina too...

How's it going?

Some of you already know my old story: damn the job that "feeds me" because it doesn't leave me any free time to do what I like; I wish I would do what I like all the time so I wouldn't have to depend on my damn job because that would be enought to "feed me".

The only thing which encourages me is realizing whatever it happens I still have the willingness to do what I like; I still wake up with new ideas and projects in mind, I still feel able to sit down and create.

And to reinventing, too.

For instance, do you remember my "Código QR" necklaces?
Well, now you have it in magnet format for the fridge ;)

A QR is a code that stores information in a counterfoil of points, and that can be read by mobile phones, smartphone, tablets, scanners or photocameras with QR's reading software and Internet access for the URLs.

It's possible to encrypt any text (A poem, a special phrase...), URLs, telephone numbers or Vcards (with contact information).

I love them because besides being misterious (you don't know what they say until you read them) its final look it's always different, since it depends on the information they contain.

It could be said they're all different... so QR codes are a kind of ooakrafts! ^^

Although slowly, I'm underway again. And even I have no time for doing everything I want to do, I picked up the pace immediately (incoming idea, take note, search for pieces, try out, ooak!)

This time, another torc-shaped bracelet, "Petit-Crû":

"Petit-Crû" bracelet -SOLD-

Iseult "the blonde", also known as Isolde, Ysolt or Gráinne, is the daughter of the King of Ireland, the bride of Mark, King of Cornwall and the lover of Tristan in the tale of Celtic origin "Tristan and Iseult", included in Arthurian legend.

This tale tells the idyll between the two characters, who symbolically represent the Moon and the Sun. Contrary to what one may think, Tristan personifies the Moon, whereas Iseult embodies the Sun (in Celtic languages the Moon is a masculine word in contrast to the Sun, that it's female.

"Petit-Crû" it's a mythic animal, a charmed toy granted by a fairy to Duke Gilain as a testimony of her love. His magical bell used to eliminate all sadness and fill with happiness to whoever was in its presence.

It appears on the story "The little fairy bell", from the book "The Romance of Tristan and Iseult" by M. Joseph Bedier:

'As Tristan heard it, he was soothed, and his anguish melted away, and he forgot all that he had suffered for the Queen; for such was the virtue of the bell and such its property: that whosoever heard it, he lost all pain. And Tristan thought how good a gift it would make for the Queen. [...]

When the Queen gave it, she watched her sadness and anguish and regrets melted out of her heart.[...] One day she found that it was the little bell that charmed her soul; then she thought: "What have I to do with comfort since he is sorrowing? He could have kept it too and have forgotten his sorrow; but with high courtesy he sent it to me to give me his joy and to take up his pain again. How's it going?

As every winter, I fell in a kind of creative lethargy...

But I wasn't really absent: during these months I've dedicated myself to tweak the design of the blog, I updated the already published tutorials, I took on some large orders and I've been turning over a couple of ideas I would start shortly.
