New RAGE Game Trailer Released

iD Software have released another follow up trailer for its new game RAGE, which is expected to be out in September for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Mac.
It been a long time since iD Software have released a game, with their last being back in 2004. But the new RAGE game from the creators of Doom & Quake looks very promising from the couple of trailers that have been released this year. Watch the lastest to be released after the jump.

RAGE is a first person action game (FPS) with added vehicle combat and vehicle racing in a post apocalyptic world. Even though RAGE is predominately a FPS game it will also feature some role-playing game (RPG) elements, an inventory system and the capabilities of weapons will be based around types of ammo.

Verizon iPhone 4 Sales Lower Than Expected?

Both Verizon and Apple were expecting sales of the iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless to be high, and whilst the initial numbers seemed promising, with the iPhone 4 breaking Verizon’s previous first day sales records, it seems that the Verizon iPhone 4 hasn’t been as popular since that.
The guys over at the BGR have obtained some sales figures from five different Apple stores, two of which are prominent stores, and the figures make interesting reading.

- Thursday: Verizon = 909, AT&T = 539
- Friday: Verizon = 916, AT&T = 680
- Saturday: Verizon = 660, AT&T = 471
- Sunday: Verizon = 796, AT&T = 701
- Monday: Verizon = 711, AT&T = 618
As you can see the Verizon iPhone 4 sales are not that much higher than the AT&T sales, and according to the information received by the BGR out of the people who purchased the iPhone 4 on Verizon, 30 percent were Android users, 25 percent were BlackBerry users and just 14 percent were switching from AT&T.

Google’s Music Service to Launch With Android 3.0 Honeycomb?

We have been hearing rumors about Google’s Music service for quite some time, a new music service which is designed to take on Apple’s iTunes, and now it looks like it will launch with Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
Motorola’s CEO Sanjay Jha may have let slip in a recent interview at MWC 2011, that the new Google Music service will be available at the same time as Android 3.0 Honeycomb launches.

“If you look at Google Mobile services [via Android] today, there’s a video service, there’s a music service – that is, there will be a music service.”
So it looks like Google has its new Google Music service ready to go, Motorola have obviously tried it out, and it looks like it will be available at the same time as Honeycomb launches.
We suspect that the new Google Music will also be available to other Android devices which aren’t running Honeycomb like the large range of Android smartphones.
As soon as we get some official announcement from Google on when their new Google Music service will launch we will let you guys know.

Acer’s Windows Phone 7 Smartphones Coming This Year

Back in November we heard that Acer was working on some Windows Phone 7 smartphones, although we weren’t given many details about when they would be available.
Acer has now confirmed that it will launch a range of Windows Phone 7 later this year and it looks like they will be go on sale in September or October of 2011.

Acer have yet to reveal any details on their new range of Windows Phone 7 devices, although they have said that these WP7 smartphones will offer the “same opportunity you can see on Android in terms of customisation”.

Apple Opening Biggest Store To Date In Grand Central Station

It has been confirmed by a close source to the Cult of Mac website that plans for Apple to build a new store in Grand Central Station are indeed true and the store will be Apples biggest and grandest to date.
According to the source the new store already has the name Grand Central and that Apple will be making an internal announcement within the next month or so. The new Apple store is expected to open in the Autumn sometime in early September.

The unamed source also said that the new Grand Station Apple Store will be a grand affair saying: “The company will certainly pull out all the stops on this one,”

Apple retail outlets have helped grow the company and with this year being the 10th anniversary of Apple retail, you can expected something spectacular from Apple in Grand Central Station.

We told you the other day that the Motorola Xoom would be headed to the UK and Europe in quarter 2 of 2011, and now Motorola has released an official statement regarding UK availability of the Xoom
Motorola has announced that the Motorola Xoom will be available in the UK with a number of major retailers, which include the Carphone Warehouse, PC World, Currys and Dixons.

Motorola has announced that the Xoom will be available from the above retailers here in the UK in quarter 2, so we guess the earliest we will see it in the stores is in April.
Motorola has not announced any pricing for the Xoom here in the UK, although we did get some US pricing earlier which may gives us some indications on how much it will cost in the UK.

Crysis 2 PC Demo Unleashed On March 1st

EA is now finally set to release its Crysis 2 demo to PC gamers on March 1st nearly a month after Xbox 360 gamers has access to the highly anticipated demo.

The Crysis 2 PC demo includes two stunning maps complete with two adrenaline-filled modes and plenty of multiplayer action. Allowing PC gamers to get their hands on the new Nano suit and put it through it paces, using the strong, invisible and fast modes to become the ultimate human weapon.

The game modes included in the demo are “Team Instant Action” putting two teams against each other where you try to kill as many opponents as possible and “Crash Site,” where you battle for control of alien drop pods, earning points by guarding their pods and keeping enemies at bay.

The Crysis 2 multiplayer demo will be available for download here and other partner sites on March 1^st

Back To The Future Episode 1 iPad Game Launches

Back To The Future Episode 1 HD has just arrived on the iPad and is now available to download from the Apple iTunes Store. Originally announced back in October last year the new game have now finally arrived and requires iOS 4.2 or later to play.
The game starts 6 months after where the third movie finished and starts with Marty seeing the DeLorean Time Machine he saw destroyed by a speeding train materialise before him. Throughout the game there are references to the movies and even appearances from Biff and Marty’s Dad, George.

As with all TellTale Games, Back to the Future Episode 1 is a touchscreen adventure game where you tap on a particular portion of the screen to either move Marty or to interact with objects.

Sony’s new unlimited music service powered by Qriocity which wen live in the UK in December has now arrived in the US, Australia and New Zealand.
The new service features six million tracks from Sony Music Entertainment, Universal, EMI, and Warner and is available on Sony devices including the PS3, VAIO PCs, Blu-ray disc players and Sony Bravia televisions. As well as being available soon on Android and iOS devices once the applications for both are rolled out later this year.

The new service is available in two tiers, a basic membership which provides an interactive radio experience for $3.99 per month, together with a premium $9.99 per month service providing subscribers on-demand access to the Music Unlimited library.

If you are a big users of Linux and the note taking application Evernote, you will already know that Evernote doesnt yet have a Linux client to use. There are already ways around this using WINE but the integration method is far from perfect.
This is where the free to download application Nevernote comes in. Providing all the features on the Mac and Windows clients and bring a few new ones along with it, including database encryption, hiding notebooks, multiple databases, inline PDF viewing and auto sync on close to name a few.

The Jave application is still currently under development and there are a few items still missing that could be added in the future, such as recording webcam notes, drawing ink notes, sharing, and built-in screen clipping.

New Redbox Streaming Service To Compete Head-On With Netflix

Redbox President Mitch Lowe has today confirmed that Redbox is planning to launch a new streaming media service to compete with Netflix head-on, in a report with the Los Angeles Times.
During an interview with Lowe he explained that Redbox’s forthcoming digital option will be subscription-based Internet streaming instead of a transactional service through which consumers pay separately for each movie. A single monthly fee would allow users to access movies on multiple devices and access discs through kiosks.

It has previously been announced that Redbox would partner to release its new streaming service but has not mentioned any partnerships as yet. Though it has been though that talks have been ongoing with Amazon, making it a likely candidate to be Redbox’s partner.

IE9 Release Candidate Reaches 2 Million Downloads

Just one week after Microsoft unveiled its IE9 release candidate, there have already been over 2 million downloads of the new browser. Microsoft released the IE9 RC at a February 10th event in San Francisco, and is the last step before final release to the Web.
IE9 supports all CSS 3 selectors, improved JavaScript performance, and embedded ICC v2 or v4 color profiles support via Windows Color System.It also features hardware-accelerated graphics rendering using Direct2D, hardware accelerated text rendering using DirectWrite.

Together with hardware accelerated video rendering using Media Foundation, imaging support provided by Windows Imaging Component, and high fidelity printing powered by the XPS print pipeline.

Microsoft has not yet released any information as to when the final public release version will hit the web. But the IE9 beta is available for download at http://www.beautyoftheweb.com/.

Buffalo has launched a new portable hard drive, the Buffalo MiniStation, which is designed to be stuck on the back of your HDTV and can be used to record TV programmes (on supported TVs).
It comes in the form of a 500GB HDD and a bracket that can be put on the back of you HDTV, you can then record your favourite TV shows via US (if your TV supports this).

It can also be used as a regular hard drive with you PC and it will be available in Japan at the end of the month for $113, there are no details as yet on when it will be available in the US and Europe.

The World’s Fastest Furniture, The Dining Room Table Car

I didn’t even know there was a category in the Guinness World Records for the worlds fastest furniture, but apparently there is, and the previous record was held by a motorized sofa which was capable of 92mph.
Well it looks like that record has now been broken by Perry Watkins from the UK, who has built the world’s fastest dining table and claimed the record for the worlds fastest piece of furniture.

Perry Watkins built his dining table car from using a dining table and a Reliant Scimitar Sabre V8 convertible, and added in some nitrous oxide to make it faster.
The result was a motorized dining table which average a speed of 113.8mph, and as you can see from the photo above he even had plates and some champagne bolted to his dining table car.

ZTE has launched a new Android tablet, the ZTE Light 2 which features a 7 inch Pixel Qi display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, it comes with Android 2.2 Froyo and also features a 1GHz processor.
Other specifications on the ZTE Light 2 4GB of built in storage, and it measure just 12.6mm thick, and offers support for DLNA, and comes with Dolby Surround 3.0 sound.

There are no details on pricing or availability as yet, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.

Atheros have created a new XSPAN AR9462 chip which combines high-performance 2-stream Dual-Band 802.11n, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 into a single chip. The worlds first chip to combine all three by Atheros has been showcasing at the Mobile World Congress this week and has been designed for use with tablets, notebooks and netbooks.

The Dual-band Wi-Fi capabilities of the new chip allow it to use a mixture of Internet, data, media and data offloading applications. The AR9462 provides robust wireless bandwidth in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, and uses Atheros’ Signal-Sustain Technology to boost signals across the entire Wi-Fi link.

This enables consumers to maintain reliable Internet connections on the 2.4 GHz band, while using wider (40 MHz) transmission channels in the 5 GHz band to create, consume and share digital media content – which requires more reliable bandwidth and less interference.

It also shouldn’t belong before these chip are used in gadgets as Atheros is hoping to start shipping samples in first quarter of this year.

If you are a big fan of YouTube, Bluedot’s YouTube XL might well be the gadget for you. Its been introduced in Japan this week and is Bluedot’s first YouTube set top box allowing you to view YouTube on your TV with tying up your computer.
The new YouTube XL BTC-10, provides direct access to YouTube contents and connects to your TV via a HDMI port and then to the Internet allowing computer free viewing for your favourite YouTube videos.

The BlueDot XL will be arriving in Japan this March at around 13,000 Yen or around $155, but no details on worldwide export have been released as yet.

iPad Puts Apple At The Top Of The Mobile PC Market

The iPad has been a massive success for Apple, launched almost a year ago in April, the iPad has changed the mobile computing market, and now according to research firm Display Search, Apple is now the number one mobile computer maker.
Before Apple launched the iPad, the range of tablets that were available were pretty underwhelming, now we are seeing more and more tablet computers announced on a daily basis.

According to the report Apple shipped more mobile computers, than any else in the last quarter of 2010, and have now taken the top spot from HP in the ‘Mobile PC Market’.
“While we anticipate increased competition in the tablet PC market later this year with the introduction of Android Honeycomb-based tablets, Apple’s iPad business is complementing a notebook line whose shipments widely exceed the industry average growth rate,” said Richard Shim, Senior Analyst at DisplaySearch.
Apple’s success is bound to continue into 2011, with the launch of the new iPad 2, and whilst it will have a lot more competition this year, mainly in the form of Android Honeycomb tablets, we suspect they will still be at the top of the tablet market at the end of 2011.

Intel Looking For A New Meego Partner

Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini has said that the company is looking for a new partner for the MeeGo mobile operating system after Nokia’s recent announcement that Microsofts Windows Phone 7 will be its primary smartphone platform.
Otellini recently said that the reason Nokia had chosen Windows Phone 7 was because of the money Microsoft were offering them, and it would now be hard to differentiate between Windows Phone 7 and MeeGo on Nokia devices, so they will be looking for a new partner.

“We will find another partner. The carriers still want a third ecosystem and the carriers want an open ecosystem, and that’s the thing that drives our motivation,” he said.
Nokia announced that they would only be releasing one MeeGo device in 2011, which is probably something that Intel weren’t very impressed with.
MeeGo was created when both Nokia and Intel merged their two Linux based operating systems Maemo and Moblin, and Intel were obviously hoping that the new platform would turn into a major one for smartphones.

Opera Browser Set To Launch On iPad (video)

After a bumpy start to the launch of the iPhone Opera app, that included a few issues with scrolling smoothness and font rendering while using pinching and zoom. The new iPad Opera app has been promised to be a much more refined app, tailored to the iPad and has been built using the same engine which powers the Opera desktop.

The app runs very smooth, and allows for some rapid movement between visual tabs (open pages). Visual tabs allow users to have several web pages open concurrently and quickly switch between them using tabs. Each tab allows users to preview a thumbnail, as well as the page title and icon for each web page they have open.
