So much has happened this week {exciting and heartbreaking!} and I’m looking forward to having a few days to relax and have some fun!  I’m glad you’re here with me today because I have another easy peasy valentine to share with you!

I get a touch of crafting ADD at times.  I created this fun alphabet valentine, and I found that it was quite versatile.  Before sharing the download links, I am going to show how I used this printable 3 different ways.

So I created this ABC Valentine image in Photoshop.  I just typed up the alphabet, but inserted a heart shape for the “O.” I tried out all sorts of different backgrounds and text colors!

Option #1:  I thought this would be a fun valentine for Little Man to give his friends.  So we just glued a heart candy  after printing out the image on neutral cardstock.  And of course a little ribbon embellishment doesn’t hurt!

Hmmm loving this option.  Especially for school.

Option #2:  I resized this image a bit smaller, printed it out on cardstock, and turned it into a card!

Love the aqua and red!

But the pink chevron is delightfully cheery too.  I’m very indecisive.  One of each please!

Option #3:  I printed out the image at Costco and framed it!

What are you up to this week?  I am enjoying having my hubby home this week–you have no idea what a rare occasion this is!  I almost don’t know what to do with myself.  Last night we celebrated the start of the Chinese New Year with dinner at P.F. Chang’s!

This year, I decided to create photo thank you postcards to send out our thanks for the many generous gifts that Little Man received! What better way to say “thank you” than through photos?!  Although these are the postcards we used for Christmas gifts, I am considering doing our birthday thank you notes the very same way.

You probably know by now that I love a great photo project!  Many of our aunts, uncles, and grandparents live far away.  And honestly, all I need is some cute photos in my arsenal to keep them happy across the miles!

You may remember that last year I created photo thank you cards–just printed them right off my computer and jotted down our thanks inside the card.  But this year, I thought it would be fun to send out a postcard instead!

We’re hoping that our family will love getting this little note of thanks in the mail.

So here is what I did:

– I took photos of Little Man with his new Christmas gifts.  Wearing a new shirt, playing with a toy, etc.!

– In Photoshop, I created a 5×7 image.

– I used the shape tool to draw a speech bubble on each photo and added a “thank you” using the text tool.

– I added a black border to each of my pictures.  Because I anticipated that Costco would slightly cut off the edges, I also added a chevron background to offset that a bit.

– I uploaded each photo to Costco and used them to design the postcards in Photoshop.  On their site, you can type in your addresses, message, etc.!

– Because Costco ships these instead of printing them in store, it takes some time to get them back.  (See why I’m so late??).  Add a stamp and send in the mail!

We were so excited to get these in the mail–and then to ship them out!

I needed something cheery to get me started this week!  Over the weekend, I worked hard on my Valentine’s Day mantle.  I needed a garland of sorts.  During the fall, I saw all sorts of felt leaf garlands on Pinterest.  To me, there is nothing more “homey” than felt.  So over the weekend, I sat down and created something to help spice up my Valentine’s Day decor.

This was the perfect project to work on while Mr. Oopsey Daisy was out of town. I watched a couple of chick flicks, and hand stitched these hearts together.

You can make your own with some scraps on hand!

Let’s get started!

I started with the felt.   I secretly wanted to use all wool felt, but my frugal conscience got the best of me.  So I purchased the red and mustard wool felt, and I had the other colors on hand.  I LOVE the color scheme!  The mustard and turquoise were fun and unexpected pops of color.

Then I sat down and just started cutting out a whole lot of hearts!  I didn’t use a pattern–just used the old traditional method of folding the fabric over to achieve a symmetrical heart.  I think I cut out about 90 hearts total.

It was 12:30 AM, and I couldn’t thread the yearn through the needle for the life of me.  Finally I tried this trick of taping the end with masking tape. Duh!  It worked perfectly.

I knotted the end of the yarn to prevent fraying and then started stitching!

I made sure that I had plenty of excess yarn so I could sew as long of a garland as possible.  (I didn’t want to have to thread that needle any more times than completely necessary!)

I wanted to be unpredictable, so I didn’t repeat the colors in any certain pattern.  Crazy, I know!!

I just knotted the very end of the yarn, and started draping!

I really don’t have a mantle–just this built-in area for our TV.  I avoid showing pictures of this area for some reason.  This might be its very first reveal on Oopsey Daisy. I am never sure how to decorate this little spot especially with the distraction of the television.  But one of my goals for 2012 is to be more real.  So this is us!

And I love how this little garland make our home so cheery and homey!

I have been super excited to share some highlights of our fun day at Denver’s National Western Stock Show.  Every January once Christmas is over, we start looking forward to attending the Stock Show!  We put on our Cowboy boots and hats and get ready for some Western fun!  Besides attending the actual Rodeo show, there are so many fantastic activities for kids!  Little Man enjoys this more and more every year!  He was begging to go to the “Cowboy Show” all week long!

This year, my very talented Mother made some incredible cowboy chaps and vests for Little Man and his cousin.  As we walked through the crowds, the boys definitely got a little attention.  They looked so cute!

Convincing Little Man to wear a shirt with buttons is tricky.  You should see us trying to get ready for Church each Sunday morning.  But he was excited to dress up like a cowboy!

The boys had the chance to ride some tractor tricycles.

Little Man’s feet were just barely shy of the pedals, so Daddy helped push a little bit!

Always an animal lover, Little Man loved the petting zoo.

He especially loved the goats!  (Even though the goats were trying to eat his cowboy hat!)

Little Man and his 2 cousins rode in a Stick Horse Rodeo!!  They had the chance to name their stick horse and race through a series of little jumps.  The boys were so, so cute!

Little Man needed a little convincing to get up in front of the crowd, so Daddy was his helper this year!

We had a rootin’ tootin’ time!

Why hello, lovely little Scentsy Valentine warmer!

After being out of town for 6 days this week, Mr. Oopsey Daisy comes home today.  After battling the sickies, I have not been the best Mom this week.  I am so looking forward to having our family together again!  And having a little me-time will be nice, too!

 These candy bar love notes are intended for the Mister in your life…   

It’s not often that I get to share my handsome hubby with the blogging world, so I am going to take full advantage right now!

Here is the short version of our very own love story:

My sweet husband and I met while I was teaching first grade and he was doing real estate/going to school in Utah.  Instead of asking me out, my husband hired me to do secretarial work for his business over the summer.  I started “work” (if you can call it that!) on Monday, and we started dating on Friday!   And I loved him so much, I even agreed to sit in a freezing cold lake at sunset in frigid temperatures for our engagement pictures!  

So we were married.  Handsome hubby graduated and secured a job that brought us back to my home in Denver.   Little Man joined our family, and we were thrilled!  But here’s our only problem:  Handsome hubby travels a lot for work.  That can be hard.  Very hard.  I am always looking for fun ways to let him know that I am thinking of him while he’s away!

I don’t know who said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but it seems to be pretty accurate in our marriage!  Handsome hubby loves to eat!  So I grabbed some of his favorite candy bars and made an arsenal of candy bar love notes!  This way, I can grab one and stuff it in his suitcase for him to discover in a hotel later on.

So here is how you can make your own!

YOU WILL NEED:

– Candy bars

– Candy bar love note images (provided)

– Scrapbook paper or colored cardstock

– Ribbon

– Scrapbook supplies (scissors, glue, hole punch, etc.)

– Embellishing supplies (distressing ink, etc.)

I started out by selecting several of his favorite candy bars at the grocery store.

I created some tags in Photoshop.  (Download will be available at the end of the post!).  Some of the labels were created to fit a 2-inch circle punch (blue).  Some were created just to be regular old tags (yellow).  I printed them on scrapbook paper and colored cardstock.

So I got to work with my circle punch!

I mounted them and distressed them a bit.

I wrapped the larger candy bars in scrapbook paper and glued them shut.

Some of the notes are intended to be thoughtful.  Some a little more fun.  But now I have a bag-full of sweet nothings that I can use to show my husband how much I care!

There is just something about sharing sweets that makes me very happy.  You can’t go wrong with a tasty treat!  Today I am sharing my all-time favorite brownies recipe.  We have been making these marshmallow brownies in our family for years.  The original recipe came from a friend of ours growing up in St. Louis, Anita B.  They’re not your average brownie… Yummy marshmallows sandwiched between a layer of brownie and scrumptious frosting!

For a fun Valentine’s Day twist, I used pink strawberry marshmallows and cut them into heart shapes!  It’s a sweet treat to share with someone you love!

My mouth is watering all ready…

Here is how you can make your own!  (Don’t forget that you can print your own recipe at the end of the post.)

First the brownie layer!

Brownies

2 sticks margarine

2 c. sugar

1/3 c. cocoa

4 eggs

1 1/2 c. flour

1 1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)

2 tsp. vanilla

1 pkg. miniature marshmallows (I used 1 pkg. of large strawberry marshmallows)

Take out of oven for 3 minutes.  Cool for 1 hour.  I found that I had to break apart the big marshmallows just a bit in order to spread them across the entire pan.  But aren’t they so pretty and pink?

Frosting (my favorite part!)

1/2 c. margarine

1 2/3 c. powdered sugar

1/3 c. cocoa

1/2 c. canned milk

Mix and spread on top of marshmallows.

I left them in the refrigerator overnight to be sure everything set up and they would be completely firm before cutting them into heart shapes.  I used the cookie cutter as a guide, and carefully went around the shape with a knife.

Simple and sweet with just a hint of pink!

We love it that much.

I decided to make a quote board of my favorite Pride and Prejudice quotes.  This is the same quote used on the Valentine cards with sewn hearts.  The only problem was that I had two quotes I was dying to use…

So this quote board has two sides!  I can flip the board over whenever I wish!

Here is how I made it:

I dug through my stash of unfinished wood and found this 12×12 board–with beveled edges as an added bonus!  It wasn’t exactly spray painting weather, but we made do.  I gave it a base coat of white.

I designed these two quotes in Photoshop.

Don’t you love the silhouette of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy?!  It’s my favorite part!

I firmly believe that contact paper makes the best stencils.  So I cut out the first quote from contact paper using my Cricut.

I made the mistake of buying clear contact paper.  Man alive, this took some serious concentration to cut out my stencil, transfer it with transfer paper, and apply to my board without missing a dot of an “i.”  I will be headed back to the store to get white contact paper ASAP!

Then I spray painted the board red.  This way the letters would stay white.

Once the paint dried, I peeled up the vinyl, and it looked perfect!  Oh how I love my contact paper stencils! Now I was ready to begin the back side of the board, so I used Painter’s tape to tape up the edges…

And I gave the back side of the board a nice coat of black.  Because of the hook-hanging-holes (very technical term!) on the back side, I used a different method…

I applied white vinyl to scrapbook paper, and modpodged it onto the back side of the board.

I seriously LOVE how this turned out!

And I love the versatility of flipping the board over and having a whole new quote!

Now for tonight:  I plan to snuggle up on the couch and have  a date with Mr. Darcy!

For me, Sundays are all about family.  So I step away from my usual creative routine so I can share some peeks of my real life with you!  Most of the time, that includes showing what Little Man and my family have been up to.  Even thought the holidays are long-gone, I wanted to share some fun moments of our post-holiday celebrations.  My entire family was here in Colorado, and we definitely enjoyed every moment together!

I love these sunny, snow winter days.  We might have 60 degrees one day; snow the next.  The spontaneity keeps me guessing!  But one thing I do love:  We almost always have blue skies and sunshine.

One of my favorite moments was visiting “Sledding Hill” (Yes, that’s really the name of the park!) to try out our new sleds.  The hill (and the hike back up!) were endless.  This was Little Man’s very first time sledding, and he loved it!  He went down the hill all by himself!  The hikes back up the hill tired pooped him out and made for a great nap that day!

We enjoyed a trip to the Denver Zoo for “Zoo Lights” one evening.  This was my favorite lights display of the entire season!

We bundled up for the cold, but it was quite a lovely evening!  There was just one problem:  Little Man kept asking where all the animals were!  We’ll have to return to the zoo to see the animals when they’re still awake!

Of course we had to make a holiday food tour of some of our favorite food spots!  This yummy hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot is one of our fave’s.  The salsa has gotten spicier and the sopapillas have gotten bigger!  But the entire meal was delicious!

Little Man has become quite the artist lately He’s loving his new giant coloring pad–a gift from his aunt, uncle, and cousins!

The holidays with a toddler are such a magical time!  I enjoyed watching this little guy experience Christmas!   I didn’t want it to end!

I sure do love this Little Man of mine.  He seems so grown up to me these days.  He says words like ‘deee-licious!” and “lens cap” and “giggling.” Every day some new word sneaks its way into his vocabulary. He’s my buddy, that’s for sure.

Here are some simple cards with sweet nothings for someone special in your life.  And they are printable!

I must tell you that I am a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice.  I love me some P&P.  So this card just happens to be my favorite, though I did make a variety.

I created these 6 images using Photoshop.  It was a great chance for me to use as many fonts as possible.  Which one is your favorite?

I printed the images on a plain, “brown paper bag” type paper.  There were 6 different cards, so I printed 2 on a page. You can download your own images here if you would like to make your own.

Just cut in half and fold.

I love how the words printed out–they look stamped.  Absolutely lovely!

They were just a little plain, so I sewed a heart to the front of each card.  I raided my pile of scraps to cut out some hearts.  Don’t you love using up scraps?!  I do!  These would be much cuter if they were hand stitched.  But, well, I avoid hand stitching whenever possible.

All done!

I’m thinking of giving one to my hubby every day during the week of Valentine’s Day.

As a mom of a Little Boy, I rarely look twice at girls’ clothes.  But this dress blew me away.  I love everything about it–even the matching pinwheel bow that Pinafores & Pinwheels created.  You must check this out!

I’ve made some progress, though.  I have furniture.  I have a rocking desk from The Original Scrapbox.  And a sewing table.  But it’s all a hodgepodge of furniture of varying colors and styles.  I’m dying to paint or stencil, but we’re still waiting to buy a home first.  I know, I know.  It’s all a bunch of excuses!  I hope to finally get everything organized the way I would like someday soon!

In the meantime, here are some inspiring creative spaces:

I have serious craft envy about this craft room from Craftaholics Anonymous.  I have that very same desk, (care of The Original Scrapbox).  But I also adore that chandelier, the stenciled wall, and the entire color scheme!

I am all for finding creative ways to organize and repurpose old furniture.   This crafting space was created from an old TV hutch!  Pretty cool!  I spotted this idea at Dwelement.

When it comes to decor, I am not usually a “modern” person.  But I find myself loving clean lines in craft rooms.   I love the white in this modern craft room.  And the drawers–oh, the drawers!  Love all that storage.  You can see the before and after of this space at Design Sponge.

I love looking at the craft rooms in magazines, but I really love seeing how people create their own creative spaces on a budget.  Older and Wiser created her space on the cheap.  And I love how it turned out!

I’m thinking that Smashed Peas and Carrots has the right idea with her fabric storage in her studio.  This just makes me happy!

I love all of the organization options in this craft room from Little Lucy Lu.  Don’t you love that windmill too?!  So sweet!

This color scheme is a little different, and I love it!  I fell in love with this studio (and that rug!) at Art as Life.

A sofa in my own little space?!  Yes please!  Love this entire office from Centsational Girl.  Though I may be tempted to curl up and take a nap during “craft time!”

After the holidays, I needed something to look forward to.  A new project.  And so did Little Man!  So I decided to take advantage of the frosty weather to create a winter Mommy School packet!  I was able to complete this packet thanks to my husband!  Sweet Mr. Oopsey Daisy gave me two full days (and I mean full days!) to bust this packet out.

This unit was especially fun for me to put together because I created my own “Magical Mitten Day” with my first graders each January.  I had many happy memories sorting through my teaching files and creating a packet ready for preschoolers!  If you live somewhere where there is absolutely no snow (hello, Arizona!), then no worries.  There are tons of ideas for playing with pretend snow!  This might be a great time to teach about the four seasons.

So welcome to my Valentine’s Day series, “Easy Peasy Valentines.”

Each and every Friday, I will be sharing a quick-and-easy homemade valentine idea.  All ideas will be cheap. And all ideas will be easy.  Today’s valentine is print-and-go!

Little Man will be handing these out to his friends in his Boys Club.

Today’s valentine costs less than a $1, and what child doesn’t love peanut butter and jelly?!  We eat it for dinner almost every night when Mr. oopsey daisy is out of town.  It’s a classic.

Maybe this can get you in the mood…

So here is how you can create your own easy peasy peanut-butter-and-jelly valentine:

I purchased this box of frozen peanut butter and jelly uncrustable sandwiches at Wal-Mart.

It was a box of 4 for $2.93.  So each sandwich was less than a $1.  Not bad!

(Because they are meant to be kept frozen, we will give these out last minute!)

I created this image in Photoshop.  You can download this here if you wish to create your own.

I placed this image in a Word document and printed it out on scrapbook paper.

I cut out my topper and folded it in half creating a tent.

I stapled this tent on top of a ziplock baggie with the sandwich inside.

Simple, sweet, and kids will love it!
