Yes, a new application in the "For Purchase" section of the Ubuntu Software Center.

Up until last week I only saw Fluendo Dvd Player in there, but this week I can also purchase a game called Brukkon.
Its a challenging logic puzzle game that you can buy for the price of US$ 7.00.

Take a look at the app center with 2 apps available:

And the description of Brukkon:

The artwork of the game seems to be pretty nice after looking at some screen-shots on their website http://brukkon-puzzle-game.com/

After playing the demo, available on their website, I really wanted to see more.
So I'll probably buy this game in a few days because its worth it in my opinion.

Its nice to see that they're making it possible to purchase a few commercial applications in Ubuntu now but I would really like to see some more applications added.

This is a good start, but keep improving your game Ubuntu...

Replaced Windows 7 with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 on my brother's medion netbook

When I visited my dad and brother this week, I noticed that my brother had gotten a Medion E1222 netbook.
He told me that "it ran rather sluggish and that a number of features were locked."

Being a Linux enthusiast, I immediately proposed to replace it with Ubuntu netbook remix.
Sure enough, after watching some screen casts on Youtube, he thought it would be pretty cool to run the ubuntu netbook remix instead of that bloated Windows 7.

The install was smooth and easy enough for him to do while he's just an average pc user.
I was expecting some problems with the WIFI drivers and mouse pad but after installing all the updates and rebooting the netbook everything worked out of the box.

My brother has been working with it for a week now and I don't think he's ever going to switch to Windows again.
He says that working with Ubuntu Software Center is easier than installing applications in Windows.

It was so funny when I told him that "using a virus scanner is basically useless because there are almost no viruses for Linux" he almost couldn't believe why so many people are using Windows instead of Linux.

Mozilla Prism: Creating web applications on your desktop

With Mozilla Prism its easy to create shortcuts to web/cloud applications on your desktop.

It works on Windows, Mac and linux and I'm showing you Prism on Ubuntu 9.10 'Karmic'.

After you've installed Prism you just have to give the link of the website you want to access on your desktop and hit "OK".

Here's an example:

As you can see you can also add a custom icon or you can use the one that is used by the website.
I've placed the icon on my left sidebar for easy access.

You will notice that it works much faster than Firefox for example, its quite handy if you use it for web services/applications that you use very often.

Ardour: Professional Digital Audio Workstation

Ardour is a hard disk recorder and digital audio workstation application.

7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The unRAR code is under a mixed license: GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions.
You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip.
This application can be used in Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2008 / 2003 / 2000 / NT / ME / 98 and there is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix.
Mixxx runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X Leopard, Ubuntu, and other distributions of Linux. If you don't like something the way it is, change it! Mixxx is licensed under the GPL v2.

The bpm sync and detection is still a little bit buggy for high bpm ranges but its comming along nicely.

Its a pretty stable application but it still has some minor glitches. Maybe a good reason to make a donation to support this great project.
Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.

Personally I find the game rather good for an open source game. It has a very fast paced gameplay and is very fun to play.
