Glossy Hearts in Vector

Every year for Valentine’s Day I’m asked to create cards or graphics that involve some type of hearts, and every year I scramble to find some good ideas online and try to create them from scratch. Last year I decided to make a nice set of of hearts with a few variations in style and colors that I can use reuse on future designs. I’ve put these designs together and made them downloadable for free.

While not every design needs some glossy-looking elements, current online trends seem to dictate some use of color gradation and lighting effects. These glossy graphics tend to call a lot of attention and create some dimension, with a touch of luxury. Since these graphics are vectors it is very easy to manipulate the look of the designs. Its easy to remove elements, add a light drop shadow and scale them without loosing any quality.

Heart graphics can be used in a variety of application, from your teen-love valentine cards, to subtle elegant letters, to grunge-retro compositions. Combine these heart icons with floral graphics and see how easily hearts incorporate into designs.

This set includes different types of hearts, from the soft pink rounded hearts to red glowing hearts. While most of these are glossy, some are available as flat, but they can all be modified to fit your designs. Download and enjoy.

Need some free vector gears for your next techie design, or simply want to learn how gears are created in vector format? Download and study this file and see how easily gears can be created in line art. These various gears can be scaled, rotated and modified quickly to create your own set of gears. Colorful Fun Dingbats

A few years ago, while working on various client projects during the day, I needed a break from work and just draw something for fun. This is how this set was created. This set of colorful vector dingbats had been sitting in my machine for years; so I cleaned up the icons, finish coloring some of the symbols and decided to make them available for free download.

These bright colored graphics can be used in many ways, they can be used in backgrounds on children-themed designs, electronic music flyers, or icon elements for tech blogs. These vector graphics have a wacky and futuristic look to them, so they can be easily implemented in any fun and colorful design. In addition to the bright icons, a black-and-white version is included as well. Modify these cute icons and create your own designs by changing the colors or rotating the graphics. Included in this set are various vector symbols, crop-circle style designs, geometric shapes, and colorful icon characters. Enjoy.

Basic HTML Template

With all the recent advancements in web development and the new tools to quickly create a website, it is sometimes difficult for newbies to know where to start when it comes to website creation. In my opinion, it is essential for any good graphic designer to have a good base knowledge of HTML and CSS. While it can be relatively easy to install and run a CMS (Content Management System), it is sometimes not necessary to have a full-on installation if a client requires a basic 2-page website with minimal text and graphics.

Here we provide you with a free HTML template for you to open, edit and study it. The html file contains the most common elements used when creating a website, such as header, content, sidebar, footer. The stylesheet (CSS) contains necessary information for layout and colors. Along with the .html and .css files we are also including the graphics used (jpeg) for the backgrounds and logo, and a layered file (PSD) for easy website mock-up creation.

Logo Ideas – Part 2

Designing a great logo is no easy task. There is a lot of upfront research, communication and sketches and that needs to take place before a first set of logos are created. One good place to start the process of logo creation is to look at other logos for ideas in concept, style and design. Continuing with our popular Logo Ideas series, we have created a new set of basic logos which highlight various current styles and trends.

In order to create a good logo it is recommended to begin with a very basic concept and continue to make variations until a final idea is set ( see how basic design elements can be created). The first logo created is usually not the best one, so I highly recommend creating as many logos as time allows, and revisiting those ideas frequently. Part of the initial logo creation should be looking at other logos for ideas and variations in design styles. One good tip when designing a logo is scalability – your logo might be recognizable on a business card, but if you want your logo to work on smaller promotional items, like pens, it needs to look good very small. You can also create different versions of your logo, specially if your logo will be used on the web; you want your logo to fit well on small places, like a favicon.

Logo Ideas – Part 1

Are you stuck with the same style of logos or don’t know what other concepts to try next? Here we have a listed a small set of ideas to get your started. Now, most logos do not start with the design style, but with the concept. So I recommend your first step in logo design begins with lots of research and a pen and paper. Research what message the logo needs to deliver and what style will fit the brand best.

Logo design has become a quick business in the web, with many logos being low quality or not specific to the company. Anyone (not just 20 year veterans) can come up with good logos as long as the preliminary work, thought, creativity and details have been put into place. The more years you have designing logos, the better your logos will become, so if you’re just starting or need some quick ideas download this set and see if you can duplicate various styles with your own concepts. I personally recommend initially designing logos in one or two colors as these will be easier to translate into decals, stamps, signage, t-shirts, etc., not just the web.
