In openX when adding a new campaign I see the follow headers:

1. Pricing
-Pricing Model (options: CPM, CPC, CPA and Tenancy)
-Rate/Price
-Impressions

2. Maximize Ad revenue
-Allow OpenX Market to show ads for this campaign if it beats the CPM below (RECOMMENDED)(CHECKBOX)
-Serve an ad from OpenX Market if it pays higher than this CPM $ USD

These are the questions that I am confused about:
1. What is the difference between CPM, CPC, CPA and tenancy? (What do they stand for?)
2. Do I need to set both "Pricing" and "Maximize Ad revenue" when adding a campaign to the market?
3. Would the below example be correct?

EXAMPLE:
If I set "pricing" to the following does it mean, A advertiser will pay me $5.00 for 1000 ad impressions?

-Pricing Model: CPM
-Rate/Price: $5.00
-Impressions: 1000

4. Would the below example be correct?

EXAMPLE:
If I set "Maximize Ad Revenue" to the following does it mean, A advertiser will pay me $0.0001 everytime an ad gets an impression?

My Calculation:
0.10 (market needs to beat) / 1000 impressions = 0.0001 per ad impression, so it would take 1000 impressions at this rate to earn $0.10. Am I correct?

-(CHECKBOX CHECKED) - Allow OpenX Market to show ads for this campaign if it beats the CPM below (RECOMMENDED)
-Serve an ad from OpenX Market if it pays higher than this CPM $ 0.10 USD

Facebook App Ad Management With Openx Community Download?

Hi, I am new to OpenX and recently saw that OpenX Community Hosted allows me to manage inventory for Facebook apps.

Is this same functionality available for OpenX Community Download? As I understand it, OpenX Community Hosted will not allow me to do the same level of customization that I can do on a self-installed implementation, and so hopefully OpenX Community Download allows for Facebook app ad management.

Any advice/input would be very helpful.

Html Ads Not Working!

I've tried everything, and I can't run HTML ads.

No matter what code I put in the HTML area, it won't show up on the website, only in the preview of the ad. Even putting there plain text doesn't work.

Is it a known issue of openX or am I doing something wrong?

Invocation Code Page Not Showing - Blank

Hello,

I did a fresh install of the latest version of OpenX last week. All thinks appear to work ok, I added some advertisers and campaigns, created two zones and pasted invocation codes in my site. For a couple of days, everything was working without problems and it actually still does (banners display at specified priorities, etc), except of one thing that went wrong when I tried to add another zone to my site today.

I suddenly can't access the zone invocation code (zone-invocation.php) anymore (for any zone I try...even tried to create new ones). The admin header navigation and left menu display ok, but the content area is blank. The screenshot can be seen here (it's slovenian language, however the ''Invocation code'' tab is selected under the Zone):

All the other things work OK (the banners display properly in the zones that are already linked with my site).

I tried to run some maintance scripts and cache refresh but without success, I still can't access the invocation codes.

Having Installation Problems

I have followed the guidelines for installation.

I have php 5.2.10 and MySQL 5.0.81

I have installed several programs already with PHP and MySQL and have not had issues.

I have uploaded the file named openx, and chmod the files it asked to 777 but I am getting the following error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@voogah.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Using Magic Macros In Destination Url Not Working -- Need Help

I am trying to use magic macros in the destination urls in my banners.

For example, my destination url looks like this: http://mydomain.com/?myvar={bannerid}

But the macro does not get replaced by the value. I tried other macros in that spot too, but when the ad redirects to my destination url, the macro is still there as {bannerid}

What am I doing wrong?
Is there a limit on the type of banner this works with? The type of Campaign? Is there a configuration setting to enable this?

How Do I Split 2 Campaigns To Run At The Same Time?

HI,

I'm fairly new, and I would guest some of the problem is that I'm viewing my websites as only 1 visitor, 1 session, etc...

But, I'm trying to get 2 campaigns to display at equal impressions throughout the day. Ideally a 50/50 split and rotation so that 1 campaign banner is displayed then the other campaign, etc...

Currently it seems like one campaign will show all day, and I can't seem to see any sort of organization.

Can someone please give me the setting to do this:

2 campaigns each with 1 banner to display equally all day. They are both contract and both 5,000 impressions total.

here are my settings, that do not seem to work.
both campaigns are set up the same, 5,000 total impressions,
Priority in relation to other campaigns: level 1, limit impressions to 1,000 per day
Delivery capping per visitor: 5,000 per visitor, 10 per session
Reset view counters after: 1 minute

if I refresh the page over and over, I only get 1 campaign display for a long time?

Nothing Being Served From Openx Market

It seemed very simple to use at first glance, but I haven't had any luck at all.

1) Created a new zone
2) Assigned that zone to be displayed if the primary zone had no ads in it
3) Created a new advertiser
4) Created a new campaign for that advertiser
5) Opted the campaign in to OpenX Market with a floor price of $0.01.
6) Uploaded a banner to the campaign

So far, so good. The primary zone on the page currently has no ads in it, so the secondary zone is displaying my placeholder banner correctly.

Unfortunately, it's been 2 hours, and no ads from OpenX Market have been served. The banner I uploaded continues to display correctly, and I've seen people say that they've had market ads show up within minutes. Did I miss a step somewhere, is there some specific setting that has to be enabled on the campaign, or do I just need to wait longer?

For a certain ad I created a rule that it should show on a certain url.
The ad still shows.
Then I just disabled the ad.
The ad still shows.
Then I removed the ad from the zone.
The ad still shows.

I there some sort of cache busting I need to do?

How To Track Just Clicks Insided Pdf/flash?

Hi.

I am posting again with a better topic title and an example!
Ok, so I am using this automatic pdf --> flash publishing software.. and what it does is converts your pdf magazine or documents into a flash viewing magazine.

We have many great advertisers in the magazine! I have set them all up in open-x!

I have created an account for each advertiser and uploaded a default banner for each advertiser and then I right clicked the banner and saved the "url" -- then I pasted the "url" (from the banner) into the PDF document (because you can only put url's into PDF's) ---- So I did this through the whole magazine. Then I uploaded it to the PDF --> Flash viewing software. And then I embeded it into my website.
So now I can view the magazine in flash (turn pages and zoom and what have ya) -- When I come up on an advertiser, I can click the (URL or LINK... inside flash) and it will redirect me using the (code I pasted from open-x)... It redirects me perfectly.... but it will not track any of the clicks!

Not sure what to do next? I have the banner set up as a regular banner ad and also have it linked to a certain zone I created.

Synchronize Banner In Rotation

Hi,

I really need help.

I want to display twosomes of banner in rotation of two different Advertiser. One twosome consists of a supersize and a skyskraper. It is important that the twosome of one advertiser always appear together. At the moment sometimes the skyskraper of one Advertiser appears with the superbanner with another Advertiser.

How can I solve this problem?

Geotarget Cookies Preventing Repeat Views

We have an advertiser who has provided a series of 6 different tags, 1 for each geotargeted DMA.

The advertiser has not set any frequency limitation on the DART tags.

The problem is that we can't serve up more than 1 banner impression from the campaign to all visitors using Firefox and Internet explorer. It appears that a cookie generated by OpenX is causing a block on additional impressions. When I clear those cookies, I am able to see the banner again just one time, then it is blocked again.

This problem does not exist with Safari or Netscape, possibly because they block these types of cookies.

This frequency block problem does not occur with our other banners, even if they are geotargeted to the U.S. only or are served by DART.

We are using version 2.6.4 (prevented from upgrading to 2.8 due to problem with the upgrade wizard not recognizing writable file settings -- but that's another problem)

Does anyone know how to keep OpenX from creating these kinds of blocks or frequency caps?

I am willing to offer a reasonable fee for anyone who can solve this problem quickly.

There were 4 servers, first using 2.8.1 - then they got upgraded to 2.8.2.
Not I was adding a new server for testing reasons with a fresh 2.8.2. version.
I made a master dump of the database "openx", copied it to the new delivery box, truncated the data-tables and wanted to start replication but there was an error.
"Unknown column 'appendtype' in ox_banners" or something like that, I don't know it exactly right now.

I solved the problem with a complete master-dump (--all-databases --master-data), a dpkg-reconfigure of mysql-server-5.0.
Then it worked.

So my question is: Have there been changes in the database or how is this error to understand?

Since last night many of my site visitors are getting a Virus Alert popping up and I've got it down to OpenX. I'm running v2.8.2 and since disabling this it all works fine. I've removed flash banners leaving just the .gifs and still get the problem.

The message is:

Virus Threat Detected:

FILE nextgirl.cn/promo/index.php

Name Javascript Obfuscation (type 714)

Any ideas?

I've not found much in Google, although it appears some other sites have had this too which pointed towards a flash file?

Could this be the case?

Preview Campaign Impressions, Detect Problems, Check Free Inventory

I currently serve direct contract campains and ad networks to fill the remaining inventory, together with house campaigns.

While howse capmaigns are only shown when there are no ads to show, I have a big priority with the direct contract campains, since I have contracts which I have to respect so I have to run a certain amount of ads in my inventory within a certain period of time.

What Openx lacks is the possibility to see if a campaign will be able to fulfill all the impressions until the deadline, ans with the allocated zones (site is divided in several zones), where are the critical campains, and what campaigns can I still run (what is my free space to run campaigns at each time, considering the impressions I have and the campaigns already allocated to my inventory), all based on the past impressions of each zone.

This would be a great improvement for openx to all those running direct contracts who have to respect contracts.

I am a little confused with newsletter zones and direct selection. After reading the documentation i must be missing something.

If I cant add a banner to a email zone and to serve email newsletter banners it must be done from the direct selection - essentially avoiding the zone, what is the email zone option for and how can I record impressions and clicks from my newsletter banners in the email newsletter zone for my publishers to see?

Any help or advice appreciated.

"too Many Redirects"

This morning, as I try to login to OpenX.org on behalf of a client (using Safari 4.0.3), the browser keeps telling me "Too many redirects occurred trying to open “https://adserver.openx.org/”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page."

Sometimes, it will actually dump me into OpenX, but not give me my normal Nav, and just show me a database error message (I can't seem to duplicate this lately, so I'm not exactly sure what the message is).

Looking for some help on this one!

Hello there. I have just started using the OpenX, and I have a little problem here. I would like to ask one question - if there is a function in OpenX to control banners frequency? I have got an advertisements exchanges, and I would like to know about this function if it is, because it would be better for me to control my exchangement system. For example - there are 1000 of different banners there, and I need to change the frequency of display of some of them? So tell me if there is possible to do that? Why Are Ads Shown After The Campaign End Date?

I have a campaign set with an end date of 15 Aug 2009, however, openx continues to show a small amount of ads since the end date. There were 18 impressions this month.

The only way I've found to actually stop it from showing a campaign past the end date is to unlink the zone. But I shouldn't have to do this, should I?

quite new to this, so I'm probably at fault here. I put some banners through OpenX last night, and wanted to check on the stats on them now (about 18 hours later). They haven't changed at all, and when I do the breakdown by hour, it's only showing the stats from 18:00 - 18:59, and everything else after that is blank?

Is this right, do they update every 24 hours or something?

Although i think i got delivery capping to work in the past it does not seem to be working now.

Cookies are enabled alright and I have OpenX cookies stored (I have tried deleting them to rest them as well)

I have set it to 12 total views and 12 session views with 30 min session resets.

In any case, what exactly is "total views". ¿A user (IP?) sees a given number of campaign banners and then never again?

Banner delivery is extremely uneven for my country targeted campaigns with higher priority. There are times when banners from teh same campaign are shown over and over, and nothing else (problem described here), so

Flash Vars Not Working

I am having problems getting flash banners to work properly.

For some reason my flash banners always link to /undefined instead of using the and clickTAG flash variable when served with OpenX.

Ads display fine in IE 8 though.

Global settings enable administrators to control many aspects of OpenX operations and are available in the My Account > Global settings tab. This tab is only visible if you are working as an administrator.

Although I am working as a administrator I do not get this option listed in the menu, what am I doig wrong?

I have ads on a separate service which, when clicked over there, bring a user to my site where I host openx ads.

The typical URL that is bringing visitors to my site look like this:

What is the best method to show specific ads to someone who is a male and 60 years old?

I cannot see how using source and keywords would work as I am not grabbing this information from a database in MY site.

I cannot see how variables would work as again, each visitor may have a different age, gender, etc. and eventually I would like to target for a variety of users, not just the example above.

So what basic concept am I not getting here.

I love when openx works and when the explanations in the documentation are very clear, but sometimes I just feel really dumb.

Add Campaign Buttons Disappear

Fresh install of 2.8 (via Fantastic script on Justhost.com). I get to the point of adding a campaign, the screen shows the buttons next to the Campaign Type, then as the screen finishes loading, the buttons disappear, so I cannot select a Campaign Type.

A refresh of the screen just complans about the type not being selected, and the buttons disappear again. (Note that the buttons show up initially as the page is loading, but when the page finishes loading, the buttons disappear and cannot be selected.)

I currently have:

Mass Edit Banners Limitations

Hi,

My name is Vincent and I am new on the forum.

I really enjoy using Openx and hope that I can help others in the future and share some of my experiences.

For this first time, I would like to get experience from you

1) I set my Openx with hundreds of banners in many campaigns, without setting channel limitations.
I would like to use the channel limitations now, but it looks like a crazy job to add a channel limitation to each banner.
Is there a way to do it in a massive way?

2) I would like banners to be exclusive on their channel. As I am using the "contains $var in the url" to set my channels. Because of it I have to link many campaigns to a zone, some of them having no limitations.
That makes the impressions be split in campaigns dedicated to the channel, and other "generic" campaigns linked to the zone.
Is there a way to make the banners fitting the limitation be exclusive? I guess I could do it by setting a limitation to my generic campaigns for banners not to display in specific channels, but it doesn't look fine to me doing it in this way.

The behavior of the "OnChange" actions seems to be very buggy. Per exemple, I have actually a contract exclusive campaign and if I change it's type to classic contract, the input text field Impressions is not displayed. I think it is related to these JavaScript errors and OpenX is unusable

I have used the BZ2 package of OpenX 2.8.2.

Anyone else has the same errors ?

Keyline Around Javascript Invocation Code

Hi guys

I am trying to get a 5px padding with a 1px keyline around my ads. I take the JS invocation code and try as I might I cant make it take the CSS formatting for the keyline.

I can get it working around the noscript tag no problem, but not around the actual JS delivered ad.

Can anyone point in the in the right direction?

I have a div around the code, padding works fine, no 1px keyline. Very odd.

Challenges Adding New Banners

Hi -

I'm trying to add a banner to a newly created campaign and keep getting the following error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function getOwningAccountIds() on a non-object in /var/www/html/openx-2.8.2-rc25/lib/max/Dal/DataObjects/DB_DataObjectCommon.php on line 1457

Usually when I get this type of error message, I can hit the back button and the new banner has been saved to the campaign. However, when I went back to the campaign it says there are no banners associated with it.

After trying to add the banner a few more times (and getting the same error message), it finally showed up under the campaign, but with multiple copies from all the times I tried to create it. When I tried to delete the extra copies of the banner, I received the following error messages:

Cannot locate owning account IDs for entity in table 'banners', as the parent key value could not be located where column 'bannerid' was equal to '198822'.

I just installed OpenX on a Host gator account and the install went flawless. However, when I try to login, I get the following error:

How To Setup My Zones?

Hello,
I have a question about zone setup.

I have two zones - public and private. I sell ads directly, use adsense and show nonprofit ads too. Now, there can be two scenarios.

1) Paid ads are less than number of impressions in private zone. In this case, I want to show all paid ads in private zone, fill the rest with nonprofit ads and show only adsense in public zone.
2) Paid ads are more than number of impressions in private zone. In this case, I want to use all impressions in private zone to show paid ads and as much of public zone as needed and fill the rest with adsense.

I don't want to show paid ads in public zone unless it's really necessary.

Any ideas how to do this?

Advertisers Disappearing

I've noticed, recently that once a campaign expires or is set to inactive that the entire Advertiser just disappears from the system. Do I have something set wrong? We just upgraded from the former version and that did not occur in that version.

Another Statistics Problem

I've spent the last two nights working on this and I can't seem to get it fixed.

I've only recently realised that for the last 2 months or so that there have been no statistics being recorded. From the looks of this it all started when I upgraded to 2.8x

I've read through a fair few of the 'no statistics' threads but I still can't get this working.

I've just done (another) install/upgrade of 2.8.2

I've disabled automatic maintenance for the moment and after manually running it my debug log is:

I also don't seem to have any 'data_bkt' tables in my DB - som something is up?

Mam potrzebę utworzenia dodatkowego użytkownika, który ma możliwość dodania nowego banera oraz przypisania go do określonej strefy.

Próbowałem to zrealizować w ten sposób, że dodałem reklamodawcę oraz ustawiłem i dodałem użytkownika korzystając z opcji "Dostęp użytkownika"

Można się zalogować ale nie można dodać banera.

Dodatkowo dla tego samego użytkownika ustawiłem dostęp do strony dla tego samego użytkownika. I tutaj też nie zadziałało.

Da się uzyskać taką funkcjonalność, o której piszę ?

Openx Invocation Code Not Responding

I'm not sure if i post this on the correct forum.
However, suddenly, my OpenX just stopped working recently.

I'm attaching the invocation codes in our organization's mail.
Most of our users are using MS Outlook.

I re-generated the "invocation codes" few times. The above are the last ones. Which ones are valid invocation codes?

Banner Based On "get" Request Possible?

My site uses Openx 2.8.2 and I have users coming into the site from an ad they click on at a dating site.

The GET request I'm seeing in my logs has a lot of information about their age, sex, job, etc., basically a lot of material that would be useful for deciding what banner to present. I'm guessing this is called the referral URL, but not sure.

So is there a way for OpenX to interrogate this GET request and then present the banner I want based on one of the values in the GET string? I see in the delivery tab there is a referral and regex option.

Which would I use if either?

Failed To Disable Plugin Oxmarket For Package Openxmarket

I made the conf file as well as the plugin writable but I have the message "Failed to disable plugin oxMarket for package openXMarket" when trying to diable it from the control panel - please halp, I dont need openx, it slows down my server while not serving banners over 0.5$ cpm.

I've been searching, crawling and harvesting the website/forum/faqs for over an hour but I wasn't able to find an answer to a pretty simple question:

are adult ads allowed on OpenX Market?

Since I'm the owner/hight traffic marketer of some adult tube websites I'd like to maximize my revenue by the use of OpenX Market in conjunction with my own OpenX ad server, but I don't know if selling my ad spaces would be in corruption of any rule or guideline.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

This Setting Causes A Lot Of Confusion In Geotargeting Settings

Save the GeoIP data in the database logs

If the current version of OpenX 2.8.2 does not store geo targeting settings in the mysql tables, then why is this option here?

Track Only Clicks From 1 Campaign And Imp From Another In Same Zone

Basically, we have 2 campaigns. One we are only bothered with the clicks (an affiliate advertiser source) and another campaign where we are only bothered about impressions (CPM campaign).

Although I am not serving the actual banners through openx, I want to track the clicks and impressions through openx via tracking URLs like the below:

so to track i simply use javascript to create a new image and add the urls as the src.

There are 2 campaigns set up as a 1x1 banner. One is to track the clicks the other for the impressions. The zone is also set up as a 1x1 and I point both campaigns at the zone.

My problem is that when I click and track a click using the click campaign, this campaign seems to be recording an impressions as well. I only want to track the clicks?

The impressions are recording as normal - however, the click campaign shows more impressions than the impression campaign.

Because the publisher can login and see all campagins running, I dont want them to see more impressions next to the click campaign than the impression campaign.

Alternatively, is there a way to stop the publisher from seeing any campaigns running in the zone?

Any help or advice appreciated.

mam następujący problem. Przy realizacji kampanii, gdzie klient płaci za ilość odsłon, chciałem zablokować wyświetlanie jego reklamy na komputerach na których pracuję. W opach wyświetlana wpisałem warunek " jest inny niż".
Nr IP na pewno się zgadza. Mimo to reklama cały czas się pojawia.

Co może być tego przyczyną?

Which Tables Track Geoip Data In Backend Mysql?

I am running openx 2.8.2 on hostgator and install went smoothly as long as I didn't use their script. Okay, it's running. I used to use openx a couple of years back and then it saved geoip data in the raw impression tables. I now read that those tables aren't being used and raw data impressions/clicks, etc. are being saved in the bkt_m tables.

But when I look at the bkt_m tables:

1) there is no information about GeoIP data. There aren't even any fields that would correspond to that data if it arrived.

So my questions is:

Which tables in this version of openx store the GeoIP data such as DMA codes (presuming you have that maxmind database), Region, Country, etc?

It's not showing up anywhere in any tables.

Using Adsense Channels With Openx Magic Macros

Hi!

We would like to use channels from AdSense, so we have to generate the channels in AdSense configuration, so we will get channel-IDs, which have to be added to the AdSense HTML/JS code in our OpenX AdSense banners.

But we don't want to create extra banners for each channel, we would like to use magic macros from OpenX to set the channel on our webseite in the OpenX invocation tag. We think about using {ANY_INPUT_VARIABLE}, by adding an own URL parameter to OpenX banner tag like

This way we can use PHP on our website, to add the correct google channel id to the OpenX invocation URL, and use the magic macro {google_ad_channel} to forward the parameter to AdSense.

Do you think it is possible this way, or are there any drawbacks?

i have created campaign that tick allow openx market, create zone and linked to support it. put invocation code from this zone to my website.

so what's next i must do

i must add several ads to this campaign ? i have try add images banner ads, and floor bid is 0.1, still no openx market ads serve to my zone.

i miss a thing? thank you for advice.

Geo Targeting

do we need to pass Geo attributes in selection string? If sohow do we do that. Suppose I have banner tagged as "Geo Country" - United States in delivery options. Zone invocation code has just ?zoneid=11.
Irrespective of any selection in Geo Ad is getting displayed. Anything I am missing here.

No Daily Limits For Ads

Hi,

I just installed OpenX on my server and ad delivery seems to work just fine. My (simplified) usage case is the following:

1) Campaign with CPA (unlimited views/clicks)
2) Campaign with CPA (unlimited views/clicks)
3) Adsense campaign with CPC (unlimited views/clicks)

However, it's not possible to create a campaign with unlimited views. When I do not fill in a number of views or clicks in the priority section, I get a warning that the campaign will be inactive. I would like the ad delivery probabilities to be the following:

1) 33.33% 1) 25%
2) 33.33% or 2) 25%
3) 33.33% 3) 50&

When I take a look at the delivery probabilities given at this zone, I see numbers like:

1)49%
2)49%
3)0%

The campaign settings are all exactly the same and even if I change the priority level, the probabilities do not change (even after a maintenance run). I think that this is because maximum daily number of views are given. Why is it necessary to give a maximum daily number? Why isn't it just possible to use the weights to prioritize ads?

Stats Page Not Loading (completely Blank)

Hi all,

I am currently using OpenX v2.8.0 running on Apache 2.2.3, PHP 5.2.6 and MySQL 5.1.26-rc-5.1.26rc.

Recently I have been unable to access the stats page in my admin area.

Ads are being displayed on my site, I can access every other page in my admin area just fine. But when I try to go to /www/admin/stats.php nothing loads. The page is just completely blank.

Any ideas why this is happening?
