Al in 1983 werden de eerste plannen gemaakt over de vervanging van dit materieel, dat vanaf begin jaren '90 vervangen zou moeten worden. Er werd toen nog gerekend met een levensduur van 30 jaar voor materieel. Het nieuwe materieel zou worden voorzien van draaistroommotoren, die minder bewegende delen hebben en een drie keer langere levensduur. Het remmen zou elektrodynamisch plaatsvinden, waarbij de opgewekte warmte bij het remmen voor de interieurverwarming zou worden gebruikt. De stellen 2105-2109 hadden aanvankelijk een 2+3 (2 stoelen, gangpad, 3 stoelen) opstelling voor de tweede klasse. Deze opstelling werd mogelijk geacht vanwege de geknikte zijwand. Dit viel bij de reizigers niet in de smaak en de treinstellen werden later omgebouwd naar de gangbare 2+2 opstelling. Deze lijn is er –waar nodig– speciaal voor aangepast.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Het was de bedoeling dat dit materieel koppelbaar zou zijn met Mat '64. Hierdoor moest de rijkarakteristiek oveenkomen met dit materieeltype. Dit legde forse beperkingen op aan de mogelijkheden wat betreft o.a. de aanzetsnelheid. Ook maakte dit de besturingssoftware bijzonder ingewikkeld.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ZmIomklg0to/Svm6PZ35C2I/AAAAAAAADGc/NpUrqXKjZys/s1600-h/IMG_1858.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ZmIomklg0to/Svm6PZ35C2I/AAAAAAAADGc/NpUrqXKjZys/s200/IMG_1858.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5402554001813736290" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Hoewel de Railhopper in aantal beperkt bleef tot een kleine protoserie, was het toch niet geheel onsuccesvol, de Railhopper vormde de basis voor het dieselmaterieel '90 (Buffel) dat vanaf 1995 werd gebouwd. Het elektronische systeem van de Railhopper werd –in gewijzigde vorm– gebruikt in het dubbeldeks interregiomaterieel (IRM).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tijdens het ontwerpproces in 1988 werd de introductie van de OV-studentenkaart bekend gemaakt. Door de verwachte grote groei van het aantal reizigers was het noodzakelijk dat er snel nieuw materieel geleverd moest worden. Omdat het ontwerp voor de Railhopper zich nog op de tekentafel bevond, werd besloten tot aanschaf van een bekend concept: dubbeldeksrijtuigen met een locomotief serie 1700 in trek-duw formatie als DDAR-materieel. In de begintijd hadden de Railhoppers veel problemen met de software van het geavanceerde besturings- en diagnosesysteem. Eind 2001 werd SM '90 tijdelijk aan de kant gezet vanwege problemen met de elektrodynamische rem (ED-rem). De ED-rem werd in eerste instantie uitgeschakeld, maar de overgebleven schijfremmen raakten oververhit en veroorzaakten rookontwikkeling en kleine brandjes. Begin 2003 begon de lijm waarmee de wielen aan de as zijn bevestigd, los te laten. Om veiligheidsreden werden de Railhoppers tijdelijk aan de kant gezet. Een ander probleem is de roestvorming onder de vloeren van de cabines.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eind jaren negentig had NS Reizigers een tekort aan zitplaatsen. Om dat tekort op te lossen, is destijds besloten alleen dubbeldeksmaterieel aan te schaffen. Een vervolgorder SM '90 werd dus niet geplaatst. Begin jaren '2000 doorbrak NS reizigers dit besluit met de aankoop van nieuwe sprinters.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Van kleine, afwijkende treinstelseries zijn onderhoud en inzet relatief duur en NS Reizigers heeft met het einde van de dienstregeling 2005 de treinstellen SM '90 in december 2005 buiten dienst gesteld. De treindienst tussen Zwolle en Emmen wordt sindsdien weer uitgevoerd door Mat '64.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Vervolgens zijn de treinstellen overgebracht naar Onnen en aldaar terzijde gesteld na slechts 13 jaar dienst. Het wachten was op een koper of eventueel sloop. In september 2006 werd treinstel 2109 overgebracht naar de Vlasakkers te Amersfoort, om als oefenobject te dienen voor hulpdiensten. Het treinstel werd op 18 oktober 2006 gebruikt voor een grote rampenoefening op station Utrecht Centraal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In januari 2007 zijn vier treinstellen vanuit Onnen naar Zwolle en Hasselt gebracht en daar gesloopt. De laatste vijf zijn in februari 2007 tot schroot verwerkt. Alleen de instrumenten uit de cabine (met name de ATB-apparatuur) zijn weggehaald als reserveonderdelen voor andere treintypes. De diensten werden in december 2004 overgenomen door BBA Connex. Op het laatste moment waren de nodige oude MB230 bussen richting Apeldoorn gedirigeerd om de laatste weken de diensten van Connexxion te rijden. Een aantal van deze bussen is ook nog enige tijd aan de BBA verhuurd geweest. Ook de Volvo B10M stadsbusjes reden in november 2004 hun laatste ritjes. Het moderne materiaal ging naar andere Connexxion gebieden. Hier de complete 'Arnhemse Film' uit de jaren 70 en 80 in een hogere resolutie dan eerdere versies.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Toen Arnhem nog een Gemeente Vervoerbedrijf had...opnames van zo'n 30 jaar geleden&lt;br /&gt;De bussen ondergaan langzaam de metamorfose van donkerblauw naar lichtblauw. De eerste B7900 bussen komen de dienst versterken. De laatste Leyland Worldmaster diesels konden echter nog niet gemist worden. Op lijn 3 komen we er 1 tegen. Sneeuw zorgt voor extra onderhoud. De eerste bussen gaan naar het pas geopende winkelcentrum Kronenburg rijden. De busbanen lopen door een nog compleet onbebouwde omgeving. Als de bussen vanuit naar het centrum rijden doen ze dat over de Nelosn Mandela brug waarop nog geen bovenleiding is aangebracht. De Lobitsche Autodienst komt ook nog even voorbij met z'n BOVA streekbus. Met een echte ''CAB-ride'' rijden we over het Willemsplein en het oude stadsbusstation bij het NS station. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;object height="505" width="640"&gt;&lt;param De Henschel trolleybussen uit het begin van de jaren 60 reden nog op de dienst. In de garage stonden nog een aantal UH3sen uit de jaren 50. Verder stond op het terrein een Mercedes O302 Duobus. De Docklands is een nieuwe wijk, ontwikkeld in het oude havengebied. Deels via de routes van oude havenspoorlijnen worden deze wijk ontsloten met een onbemande tram. Wel is op iedere tram een steward aanwezig die de kaartjes controleert en zo af en toe ook de besturing overneemt. Het systeem is een groot sucess. De stations worden allemaal voorzien van verlengde perrons zodat ook 3 wagen trams er kunnen halteren. Ook zijn de nodige trams bijbesteld. De meeste bussen zijn nieuwe MAN Gas bussen. Verder rijden in Delft een aantal Van Hool stadsbussen afkomstig uit Brabant. Deze bussen werden begin 2007 na nog geen twee jaar buiten dienst gesteld vanwege de strenge milieu eisen in de nieuwe concessie! Concepteigenaar en producent van de Parkshuttle, Frog Navigation Systems, werd op 3 april 2007 failliet verklaard. Hierdoor werd het onzeker of de ParkShuttle ooit nog zou gaan rijden. Frog heeft echter in afgeslankte vorm een doorstart gemaakt. Dezelfde geleidingstechnologie van Frog wordt ook toegepast in de Philias en daarnaast ook veel in de industrie. Het systeem wordt tbv personenvervoer toepassingen op de markt gebracht door &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;2getthere&lt;/span&gt;. Deze naam is dan ook te vinden op de voertuigen. De voertuigen zijn gebouwd door Spijkstaal (o.a. bekend van de (elektrische) SRV wagens) naar ontwerp ven Duvedec.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Op dit moment is het systeem weer in gebruik. Sinds kort is het ook mogelijk aan te geven naar welke halte je wil.
