Fourth Annual Open Source CMS Award

Drupal won the 2008 Overall Award for the second time in succession in what was a very close contest with Joomla!. While Joomla was the first runner up, DotNetNuke, a .NET-based open source Content Management System, made its way to the second runner up position in its first year in the final.

The 2009 Award will feature an increased prize fund of $24,000 and a new category designed specifically for previous winners of the Overall Open Source CMS Award. This new Hall of Fame category features CMSes that have won the Overall Award in previous years competing against one another. Alongside this, previous winners will have sub-category awards for their best themes and extensions. “We believe that this will open up the Overall Award to more CMSes and at the same time, recognize the support network behind previous winners of the Award” said Damian Carvill, Packt’s marketing manager.

Packt has opened up nominations for people to submit their favorite Content Management System at www.PacktPub.com/Award. The top five in each category will go through to final, which begins in the third week of September. For more information, please visit Packt’s website www.PacktPub.com/Award.

WordPress 2.8 “Baker” released today

Today WordPress released there newest version of WordPress, WordPress 2.8 “Baker”. This release is named in honor of noted trumpeter and vocalist Chet Baker.

This version is way faster to use because they have changed the way WordPress does style and scripting. Also they have fixed over 790 bugs.

You can read the full list of over 180 new features, changes, upgrades, and improvements on the Codex. The list is exhausting!

I have tested this new version and i must say it looks and works very good!

A couple of weeks ago i decided to work in a more organized way, so i went on a search for a useful project managemt tool. On my search i came across a couple of well known project managementy tools like BaseCamp, Lighthouse and Springloops, all great tools but sadly not free (yes i am looking for a free tool). After lots of hours searching i finally found a project managent tool thats free. Project2Management is free to use and its almost the same like the paid versions on the web. Project2Management has lots of useful functions like, assign multiple levels of permission to different clients & users, manage your projects from anywhere, manage unlimited projects, post messages to keep everyone up to date, manage tasks with To-Do lists, create milestones to stay on task and lots more.

I think this is very useful project management solution, if your looking for a tool that is free.

ThemeForest is the third of the Envato digital goods marketplaces and offers a place to buy and sell website templates and themes for content management systems like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. Because blue is one of my favorite colors i have made a small list of blue themes on ThemeForest.

Sadly to say that these themes are not free, but they dont cost a lot of money(where living in dark times so we don’t want to spend a lot of money). The prices range between 10 - 30 dollars. Notice that these blue themes aren’t the only blue themes that are available on ThemeForest there are lots more of blue themes.
