Pidgin : Pidgin (formerly named Gaim) is a multi-platform instant messaging client, based on a library named libpurple. Libpurple has support for many commonly used instant messaging protocols, allowing the user to log into various different services from one application.

The number of Pidgin users was estimated to be over 3 million in 2007. Both Pidgin and libpurple are free software, released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

Miranda: Miranda IM provides a basic client framework, GUI, and an advanced plugin architecture. Support for various IM protocols and additional features is implemented through optional plugins, some of which come bundled with Miranda IM by default; the rest (over 500) are available on the official addons site. Unused protocols can be removed.

Digsby: Digsby is a proprietary multiprotocol instant messaging application developed by dotSyntax, LLC. Digsby is written in wxPython and usesWebKit for rendering. It supports most mainstream IM services such as AOL Instant Messenger, Microsoft's .NET Messenger Service,Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, Facebook Chat, MySpace IM and XMPP/Jabber-based services such as Google Talk and LiveJournal's IM. Secondly, Digsby supports e-mail notifications via POP, IMAP and webmail like AOL, Yahoo! and Hotmail - including the ability to mark messages as read, as spam or delete them from the client itself. Finally, Digsby also supports alerts and newsfeeds from MySpace,Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Digsby has built in additional features such as customizable skins for the client and IM windows, aggregated web search from within the client via multiple sites, composing emails from IM windows, combining friends from multiple clients into one contact listing, and even a separable Twitter client with unique features such as chronological streaming (oldest to newest). It is released free under a proprietary license. Development is funded through optional sponsored add-on applications via installer and distributed computing. It needs registration, which can be done through the program's installer or through a web interface. As of March 20, 2008, the Digsby application is in its public beta stage of development and is still available for Windows only (Mac & Linux versions continue to be forthcoming).

Saving Your Desktop Layout

Here are the steps to save your desktop layout:

1.Go to http://www.annoyances.org/exec/software/layout and download the layout.zip file, saving it to your desktop.

2.Open layout.zip ,and inside you’ll find two files.The .dll file you can find else where on the Web, but the other (the .reg file) has been specifi-ally modified for this book to work with Vista.

3.Copy the layout.dll file to your C:\Windows\System32 folder.

4.Double-click the other file, install.reg, and answer Yes when asked whether you want to continue.

5.Next,right-click an empty area of your desktop and select "SaveDesktop Icon Layout "

6.The next time Windows messes up your icons, just right-click an empty area of your desktop and select Restore Desktop Icon Layout.

Windows Vista Key Board Shortcuts

There are many keyboard shortcuts in windows vista but i am specifying some unknown keyboard shortcuts:

1.Press Alt while double clicking the file to know the properties of the file and Alt+Enter to open the properties window

2.Press Ctrl+N to open a new explorer window or by pressing Window Key+E to open a new explorer window

3.Press Ctrl+F to open search or F3 to open search window

4.Press F4 to know the address of the file specified or to open the address bar

5.Press Esc to revert to the new style path box

6.Press Windows Key+Tab to cycle through the opened windows

7.Press Ctrl+A to select all files in a given folder

8.You can open the start menu by pressing Ctrl+Esc

9.Pressing Windows Key+R opens run box

10.Windows Key+D to show are hide desktop
