Idea of India v/s Ideologies in India

Our country has been through a lot, history is witness to, and the most ambitious of the movement is the post 1947 movement to create a national entity which would choose to show a unified face to the world. The movement had its great leaders who have led it with exemplary courage and conviction but in recent times the worst of the politicians have ruined the legacy. The unfortunate fact is the right wing and left wing and the vacillating centrist have consistently manipulated the system machinations to benefit their families and sycophants. Thus reducing goal of unified nation into a mirage at best, a distant aspiration. Bringing unhappiness to the minority community which stayed back when the nation was partitioned. The Low caste – Dalit continue to be slaughtered by the upper caste Hindus and a allegedly vigilant judiciary have continually obfuscated interpretations of civil rights act, thwarting every attempt in getting justice to the affected. The police are horrible bunch of jokers at best. They neither have the will nor the leadership to see through the reform and rejuvenation that would be essential for making through security challenges present and beyond. They are going down. Down into abyss…. Taking a promise, Indian Union along with them. …

This article is not going to sling mud on incumbents instead would chronicle their failures, leaving the mudslinging to some other time. The polity in India has been going through a transition, Thats what the experts have us believed. The reality is, the younger generation or gen next we are called are expected to come forward. The politicians are going full gear forward in promoting their wards and relatives as gen – next leaders, The hilarity is in fact that these children of elites who studied in foreign lands would want to come back and start leading a country in which they have neither spent a lifetime nor are they willing to go through the experiential learning curve the politicians of soil have to go through in order to establish themselves as leaders of citizens of Indian Union.

Notwithstanding cynics and skepticisms and even accusations of minorities’ appeasement the Indian national Movement leaders led a conglomeration of castes and religions through the confabulating and arduous journey of Anti-Colonialism. They sustained injuries and lost everything the luxury of the 19^th century scientific modern life had to offer to them. They sacrificed their wellbeing and security, had themselves humiliated by bureaucracy of the Imperial Indian colony. In the struggle we lost parts of our country to secessionists and nations were born, nevertheless, we did manage to establish a Union. We are rightly proud of this moment in our modern history. This is just one moment. Days have passed wondering whether it is wise to continue to hold onto this moment and strive for secular democratic polity where freedom, equality, fraternity, unity and diversity of the union be ever preserved for long?

The particular instance of Mohammad Aamir who was picked up by Police on February 1998 for allegedly masterminding the 20 low-intensity bomb blasts in Delhi, Rohtak, Sonepat, and Ghaziabad. The Problem in this Police action – as revealed by Journalist Vidya Subramaniam in an article in The Hindu – February 7^th 2012,”Aamir was singled out by the Police…. Borne out by his single visa stamp, is that he wanted to visit his sister who is married into a family in Pakistan. When he went to Pakistan High Commission for his Visa, he was approached by two men from Indian Intelligence – a fact he claims he learnt later – who asked him to get some documents from Pakistan in return for small money reward, Tempted he agreed but only to renege the deal. Aamir left for Pakistan on December 12 1997 and returned on February 13 1998. A fortnight later he was arrested. Interestingly, Aamir was charged with executing the bomb blast subsequent to his training in Pakistan. The last of the bomb blasts was October 1997 – two months before he went on first and last trip to Pakistan. “……

“…Aamir has his own questions: “madamji”, he asks me, “If at 18, I became a dreaded mastermind with so many aliases, surely I would have been but a child when I started out?” And also, “I spent 14 years in jail for allegedly causing five deaths. What about the policemen who shot dead so many Muslims in cold blood in hashimpur? What about Gujarat 2002?” It ends….

Yet in another article published in the same daily(The Hindu – February 8 2012) Ravinder kaur – Associate professor of Modern South Asian Studies, University of Copenhagen, concludes “Thus , simulated images of a world with people happy, well – nourished, cheerful and skilled Indians who are ready to work long hours at low wages has its limits. These limits become apparent at a time when India no longer seems to be the only high profile actor engaged in the art of image making. Nations like South Africa and Brazil have been quick to move into the field, followed closely by yet another newly minted group of nations, N11, the termed coined by the imaginative Goldman sach bankers. The idea of ‘India Everywhere’ has instead become a case of “Everyone Everywhere,” as one Indian anchor covering Davos put it. As the novelty of dazzling image campaigns levels out, India might need to rework its agenda – To focus on actual production of a prosperous and equitable nation, rather than producing images of it.” Again so it ends…..

When it comes to Justice and security and particularly secularism of Indian state, Praveen swami writes in The Hindu – January 21 2012, “ leaving aside the question of whether India’s religious traditions are in fact tolerant – a subject on which the tens of thousands of victims of communal and caste violence might have interesting opinions – this spurious secularism has served in the main to institutionalize and sharpen communal boundaries, It has also allowed clerics to exercise influence over state policy – insulating themselves from a secularizing world.”

“The strange thing is this : India’s people notwithstanding their religiosity, aren’t the ones pushing the state to guard god’s cause. India’s Poor send their children to private schools hoping they will learn languages and sciences, not prayer, Indian Politics remains focused on real-world issues: no party campaigns around seeking more funds for mosque domes or temple elephants.”

While calling for decline of scope of religion in civil society, Mr. Praveen swami asserts “no sensible person would argue that school curriculum ought to discourage eight – year olds from discovering that tooth fairy does not exist. No sensible person ought to argue, similarly, that some purpose is served by buttressing the faith of adults in djinns, Immaculate Conception, or armies of monkeys engineering trans-oceanic bridges. It is legitimate for individuals to believe that cow-urine might cure their cancer – not for the state to subsidize this life threatening fantasy.” Mr. swami calls for “Indian secular democrats to assert the case for a better universe: a universe built around citizenship and rights, not the pernicious identity politics the state and its holy allies encourage.”..

The deviousness of Indian ideologues is their blatant attempt depending on which ideology they prescribe to manipulate all machinations of education systems, As been the case with Karnataka state , the government of Karnataka has been accused of giving a pro-majoritarian slant to social science study for children in higher primary and secondary school children.

Pulpare Balakrishnanan writing in The Hindu – February 4 2012 – talks on how regulatory mechanism of state have killed creativity and encouraged the kind of political mind game the politically influential play upon the young minds, He writes “Among recognized publications, there are no place for books considered an important part of an academic’s accomplishment globally, and the expected teaching load is outrageous. Summary quantitative indicators, adopted in the name of objectivity, kill creativity and encourage the mediocre. Actually they are only the thin edge of the wedge in the progression, and bode ominously for future of India. Imagine an India without an Amartya sen, a Romila thapar or Venky – Ramakrishnan. The current system of governing the production of knowledge in our higher education system has come close to delivering precisely this outcome. It may be claimed that too few among India’s academics have protested. But this proof that deathly arrangement devised to govern our institutions of higher learning has actually succeeded. The rules on recruitment and appraisal of faculty need to be publicly reviewed by an independent panel of citizens before it can do further harm.”

The recent controversy over three Karnataka state ministers sitting in the legislature session - discussing drought conditions in northern part of the state – watching porn on their mobiles, show the absolute lack of responsibility of the policy makers and the politicians who claim to represent. Indeed the call for decentralized gram sabha levels arrangements which replace the incumbent representative form of government looks very attractive. However the possibility of hijacking of the gram sabha by self-righteous traditionalists and revivalists would only defeat the purpose of modernization and sabotage the dispersal of wealth and prosperity and limit the spread of political power to the assertive and well organized leaving the minorities and dalits to play second fiddle to the resurgent backward castes and their upper caste allies. That again is not the reason for Indian Union to have been envisioned.

Ombudsman - Promotes Casteism

Earlier in January 2012 we saw the pandemonium unfolding in Rajya Sabha over ‘Bill’, which sought to establish Ombudsman for looking into grievances of citizens. The Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill 2011, sought to establish and mandate establishment of Union and state level ombudsman which would have to address complaints of maladministration and Allegations of corruption.

As the proceedings of the Upper House got repeatedly disrupted, The ‘Chair’ had to adjourn the session ‘sine die.’ A lot of bitter wrangling spilled out with civil society and politicians blaming one another.
“the ongoing struggle for Ombudsman or Lokpal is biased and aims to create a mammoth institution for upper caste mostly Brahmins,” Explaining his outrageous statement, he adds”the appointment is such that the ruling and opposition and the so called civil society would only mean the upper caste dominated selection panel would look for luminaries in legal and administrative fraternity,Which would only mean , the Lokpal would be some Brahmin,” when asked “ There are luminaries in legal fraternity who come from dalit community and also muslim and parsi community,am sure they’d be considered,don’t you?” Mr T K HalliGopalakrishna brushes aside the possibility saying “ see we have worked in many such appointment panels, if ever there is any understanding amongst the different schools of though in political ideologies it is only to extent that the educated and assertive of the dalits like Justice Balakrishnan are pushed off as corrupt and the Brahmin would take over, Its an old trick,” he claims, The dalits with potential are pushed off as corrupt after accusing them of corrupt dealings and then buried in protracted in prolonged legal proceedings.” There is never ever going to be any change in this strategy, Maharaja Bali was killed by a devious Brahmin, the anecdote is evidence that the Brahmin would never rest as long as he has gotten the assertive among dalit community destroyed mentally and physically, we have personally faced many such cunning situations.”

So if appointment is a farce, what else do you refute? Mr gopalakrishna pointed out “The central Vigilance Commission(CVC) and Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) have been around for decades, They have been made autonomous to extent politically expedient , But has corruption come down, NO.” It why we need a new institution, Isn’t it? Not exactly Mr Gopalakrishna corrects me, continues “ The purpose the Ombudsman at the union and state level will function more as additional job opportunity for the brahmin intelligentsia, a few old rusting Brahmins will get more job opportunities, he repeats. Salaries, allowances,government building, and then a charade of fighting something grave, only thing the grave injustice is being done in form of giving concessionary punishment for Brahmin officials and the dalit and SC/STs are given tougher more punitive punishments maybe public flogging as the Anna Hazare seems to be more fond of these days.

When protested against his assertions, mr Gopalakrishna supports his arguments saying, The civil rights act, was passed for curtailing atrocities against Dalits, Right now to this with force of data we’ll tell you, 99% of all villages and towns in India still practice Untouchability. The brahminical and pro-brahminical groups have falsely accused the victims of falsifying cases. The judiciary in India through successive judgements has reduced the punitive nature of the Act and has removed the coverage of protection for Dalit rights . There are numerous dalit atrocity cases that have increased in recent days, The police are callous inhuman, the judges are biased and one sided , we have experienced judges who have abused their high offices and authority positions by exercising contempt provisions against victims when we did not accept the judgement . The modernity that government of India and the upper caste and classes flaunt is farcical and lie. They have no humane intentions, The re-establishment of brahminical ordering of society remains the only intentions. I can name individual judges who are caste biased and have openly joined RSS units immediately after their retirement from active career in law.”

The lokpal and lokayukta will not help anyone, definitely not the dalits, The yadav baba devotee in Anna Hazare has adroitly recruited some dalit children to put up the charade of caring , The upper castes are really good at this outward show of kindness . Their hearts are black,cold and hard as stones. They’ll never be trusted.” He asserts.
The lokpal and lokayukta Bill 2011, has been in consideration for long time since. Growing instances of scams and corrupt have raised the question about the need to identity scams before the crores are lost. Mr and Mrs Joshi were an IAS officer couples who were pointed out by CBI raids after crores of disproportionate assests were recovered, The 2G scam, The scams in Bangalore municipality, The scams in clinical trails in Madhya Pradesh, the food distribution scams in madhya Pradesh, land acquisitions cams in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala government indicted in power sector scams, Human trafficking rings in North-eastern states of India, nexus amongst insurgents-local politicians in Jammu and Kashmir, nexus amongst bureaucrats-politicians-mafia in states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarkhand, Nexus amongst right wing goondas- politicians-few RTI activists have been uncovered in states of Gujarat and maharashtra. All of this clearly indicates a need for an institutional mechanism for revealing the unholy nexuses and destroying the criminals and their dens. Scepticism has only made the process cumbersome, There is a need for activists to work on issue of trust, when feudal identities are being considered as more important than future of a young nation, It would be a pity if we, as an age old civilization cannot overcome feudal hatred and mistrust, Something which is easily done by civilizations which are merely 500 years old. Pity indeed.

Mullaperiyar Dam – Two Damned Sides.

At the confluence of Mullayar River and Periyar River is the masonry gravity dam, now referred to as “Mullaperiyar Dam.” The Unique feature of this Dam is that the Dam is constructed on land and property of Kerala State and Government, Whereas the operation and maintenance of The Dam is by Government of Tamil Nadu.

Constructed in late 19^th Century, After the Imperial British Crown struck a lease agreement for 999 years with the ruling Travancore Maharaja, Utilizing Lime stone, burnt brick powder and mixture of sugar with calcium oxide at a cost of 104 lakhs. The purpose was to divert periyar river water flow through subaltern tunnels into the stream of Vengai River deep in the territory of madras presidency with periyar river deep in the kingdom of Travancore. The diverted water thus was used to irrigate lands in Madurai province and surrounding semi-arid and arid regions. Over the years the state of Tamil Nadu has not made available alternate source of irrigation and power supply for these parched regions, Continuing to rely mainly on Kerala state’s depleting natural resource, which has been one of the many cause for tensions among the states concerned.
Wikipedia – Opensource encyclopedia provides the following information on the purpose of the “Mullaperiyar Dam”- The Periyar river which flows eastward into the Bay of Bengal was diverted westwards to flow towards the Arabian Sea to provide water to the arid rain shadow region of Madurai in Madras Presidency which was in dire need of a greater supply than the small Vaigai River could give. The dam created the Periyar Thekkady reservoir, from which water was diverted eastwards to via a tunnel to augment the small flow of the Vaigai River. The Vaigai was dammed by the Vaigai Dam to provide a source for irrigating large tracts around Madurai. Initially the dam waters were used only for the irrigation of 68,558 ha (169,411 acres). Later, the Periyar Power Station in the lower Periyar, Tamil Nadu was built which generates hydro-electricity from the diverted watersl. Currently, the water from the Periyar (Thekkadi) Lake created by the dam, is diverted through the water shed cutting and a subterranean tunnel to Forebay Dam near Kumili (Errachipalam) in Tamil Nadu. From Forebay dam, hydel pipe lines carry the water to the Periyar Power Station in Lower Periyar, Tamil Nadu. This is used for power generation (175 MW capacity) in the Periyar Power Station. The Lower Periyar Power Station was constructed in 1956. From the Periyar Power Station, the water is let out into Vairavanar river and then to Suruliyar and from Suruliyar to Vaigai Dam.
The Supreme Court of India notwithstanding Tamil Nadu Government’s objections has gone ahead and established a empowered committee headed by Justice A S Anand who is hearing the two side’s arguments and counter – arguments, The Central Government has extended the term of this committee, which was to end earlier, to April 30, 2012. Kerala Government on its part opposes the raising the level of water in Mullaperiyar dam on safety concerns, earlier the Tamil Nadu Government had proposed to raise the level of water to 147 meters. For every argument which the Tamil Nadu government has put forward there is equal and convincing counter-argument against it.
It is relevant to re-collect here that the Tamil Nadu Government cannot acknowledge that it continues to depend on the natural resources of another state, detriment to the other state’s needs, basing its claim on an archaic agreement when Indian states, as federal units, never existed. Also the Kerala Government on its part, cannot afford to acknowledge the crucial irrigation and power supply source the Mullaperiyar Dam is to the people of Madurai, Sivaganga, Theni and Ramnad districts in Tamil Nadu.
Given the apparent quagmire the two units of Indian Union are faced with, It is relevant that the Union Government look at possibility of permanently linking the Rivers Periyar and Vaigai River through Vaippar and Pamba streams. Modern engineering makes this possible in shortest possible time with economical means possible. The endeavor would definitely be the first, decisive step towards ensuring the concerns of both sides would be acknowledged and addressed simultaneously. The Linking of the rivers would require the possible destruction of dams, uprooting of livelihoods and resettlement and rehabilitation expenditure will be enormous, never be miserly with it. The success of such venture hinges on people support so; the resettlement should be given the greatest attention to details.
We have the expertise and the skills required for the project, The right minds are alive and willing, the government should give it a try. The success of this project will bring hope for other States of Indian Union grappling with inter-state river disputes.

Secret war in Bangladesh – Revealed

India’s Chief of Army Staff issued a secret order to the General Officer Commanding, Eastern Command, Initiating the campaign that would end with the dismemberment of Pakistan.
Operation Instruction 52 formally committed the Indian forces to “assist the provisional Government of Bangladesh to rally the people of east Bengal in support cadres for guerilla operation for employment in their own native land.”
The Eastern Command was to ensure that the guerilla forces were to work towards “tying down the Pakistan[Pak] military forces in protective tasks in East Bengal,” “sap and corrode the morale of the Pak forces in the eastern theatre and simultaneously to impair their logistics capability for undertaking any offensive against Assam and West Bengal,” and, finally, be used along with the regular Indian troops “in the event of Pakistan initiating hostilities against us.”

Secret War:-

The task of realizing these orders fell on Sujan Singh Uban Brigadier – Later Major-General – Uban was an artillery officer who had been handpicked to lead the Special Frontier Force, a secret army set up decades earlier with the assistance of United States, Central Intelligence Agency to harry the Chinese forces in Tibet. The SFF, which until recently served as a kind of armed wing of India’s external covert service, the research and Analysis wing, never did fight in China. In Bangladesh, The contributions of its men and officers would be invaluable.

Brigadier Uban – Whom enthusiasm for irregular warfare was rivaled, contemporaries recall, only by his eccentric spiritualism – Later said he had received a year’s advance warning of task that lay ahead from the Bengali mystic, Baba Onkarnath.

Less – than – holy War:-

The war he waged, though was less-than -holy war. In July 1971, India’s war history records, the first Bangladesh irregulars were infiltrated across the border at Madaripur. This first group of 110 guerillas destroyed tea gardens, riverboats and railway tracks – acts that tied down troops, undermined east Pakistan’s economy and the history says, destroyed “Communications between Dhaka, Comilla and Chittagong.”
Much of the guerrilla war, however, was waged by volunteer of Gano Bahini, a volunteer force. The Indian force initially set up six camps for recruiting and training volunteers which were soon swamped. At one camp, some 3000 young men had to wait up to two months for induction, although the hygienic condition was pitiable and food and water supply almost non-existent.”
By September 1971, though Indian training operations had expanded dramatically in scale, processing a staggering 20000 guerrilla each month. Eight Indian soldiers were committed to every 100 trainees at 10 camps. On eve of war, at the end of November 1971, over 83,000 Gano Bahini fighters had been trained, 51,000 of whom were operating in East Pakistan – a guerrilla operation unrivalled in scale until that time. In the Chittagong hill Tracts, Brigadier Uban sent in Indian soldiers or, to be more exact, CIA-trained, Indian-funded Tibetan using hastily-imported Bulgarian assault rifles and US-manufactured carbines to obscure their links to India. Fighting under the direct command of RAW’s legendary spymaster Rameshwar Kao, Brig Uban’s forces engaged in a series of low grade border skirmishes.

Founded in 1962, the SFF had originally been called establishment 22 – and still has a road named after it in New Delhi, next to the HQ of Defense Ministry. The organization received extensive special operation training from US, as part of a military package of military assistance. In September 1967, the control of these assets was formally handed over to RAW – and used in Bangladesh to lethal effect.

November 1971 saw the Indian backed low-intensity war in East Pakistan escalate to levels Pakistan found intolerable – Pushing it to act. On December 3, Pakistan attempted to relieve the pressure on its eastern wing by carrying out strikes on major Indian airbases. India retaliated with an offensive of extraordinary speed that has been described as a blitzkrieg without tanks.”
Rejecting an offer for conditional surrender in the East, the Indian forces entered Dacca on December 15. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi promptly ordered a ceasefire on the western front as well: “if I don’t do so today,” she said of decision to end the war,” I shall not be able to do so tomorrow.”
How important was the covert war to this victory, and what cost did it come at?
India’s new communications intelligence technologies were clearly critical; three decades on, the government would be advised to make fuller accounts public, and publicly honor the anonymous cryptanalysts who achieved so much.

The 1971 war history records that their efforts meant “important communications and projections of the Pak[istan] high command were intercepted, decoded and suitable action [was] taken.” Indian communications interception, the history states, even prevented a last-minute effort to evacuate the Pakistan troops from Dacca, using five disguised merchant ships.

The role irregular forces, though, needs a more nuanced assessment. There is no doubt that they served to tie down Pakistan troops, and derail their logistical backbone. They were also, however, responsible for large-scale human rights abuses targeting Pakistani sympathizers and the ethnic Bihari population. There is no more equivalence between these crimes and those of Pakistani armed forces in 1971 – But the fact also is that the irregular forces bequeathed to Bangladesh a militarized political culture that would have deadly consequences of its own.

India’s secret war in Bangladesh would have served little purpose without a conventional, disciplined military force to secure a decisive victory – a lesson of utility and limitations of conventional warfare that ought to be closely studied today by the several states that rely on these tactics.

The continued bombardment has only become severe in the recent days, actors and actresses continually exhorting the brown skinned Indians to use fairness products. The attempt is bringing in a marked change in the way men and women view themselves collectively as a member of their community/caste and also as member of their family. Indian families known for their disdain for dark skinned relatives, family members,Experience inferiority complex amidst their fair skinned co-countrymen or co-religionists. The elites have campaigned and stolen many of their white/fair skinned models from the depths of the emergent Indian middle classes living behind their dark skinned family members to only reminiscence.

Aishwarya Rai, Susmita sen, deepika padukone, Vidya balan are few examples, We also have silk smitha, Ramya krishanan, Pooja gandhi, Shruthi, Namitha, Mumaitha khan etc are few names from down south of our country,

White is associated with purity and beauty since time immemorial in the ancient tradition. The White fetish caught on and continued only because the migratory populations who consistently came and settled in the country had shared this distinct racial feature(White Skin), Found it very easy to adopt themselves to their new homeland. The fair skinned brides were exchanged , Intrigues and seductions within palaces became a thing of legend about which the commoner continually talked and dispersed the myth of fair-skinned being beautiful and the dark-skinned a curse of their god. Facing karma of the past life it is believed. Caste prejudice and hatred continued caste based differentials of Indian society only worsened the situation with prioritization of the fetish.

The Modern era saw us fighting a fair skinned far superior race of the Caucasians which called for re-visiting many of our rigid beliefs and it dawned on us collectively for need for renaissance and also rethink the purpose of our cultural indulgences. The only thing that could never be changed was the belief that white is pure, and black is impure. The simple color codification appeared as an easy way to convince the locals who had no knowledge of English about the need for identifying with good and isolating the evil. The effectiveness of this associations was to be felt in coming years culminating into free India.

Its been 6 decades and the fetish for fair skin has become such a miserable fetish that the dark skinned southern actors in regional films are going to extent of importing their fair skinned damsels from other parts of India, We have the largest number of fair skinned imports in kannada film industry only next to the inimitable Tamil film industry. The fetish continues and its stupidity is that these imported “actors” as they call themselves have no ides of local culture but strutter across shabbily giving half baked dialogues which are most irritating and painfully sad to listen to,Its a absolute disgrace to suffer this ignominy because of our actors fetishes and directors fancies.

The dark skinned citizens on both sides of gender barriers have continued to suffer the slurs and sneers for too long, The need is to recognize that the skin color should be redundant to larger human relationships. But such warmheartedness is near impossible for the emergent India as it grapples and fumbles with the new found materialism and wealth thanks to opening of economy.

Hence it becomes necessary that the first step towards cultural emancipation of the dark skinned in Indians would be create a separate cultural platform where the specific interests and needs of good skin care and health of both mind and body are taken care by specific groups both corporate and co-operatives within communities and beyond. The need should be to guide the confused out of the misconception and support the brave who dare to bare their dark skin. many attempts have been made through various writ petitions - Public Interest Litigation's to force the government at the time to enforce a uniform civil code where the petitioners have asked for :-

1. Praying for introduction of Uniform Civil Code.
2. Declaring certain enactments relating to family law (alleged to be discriminatory) as unconstitutional.
3. To declare Muslim Personal Law which allows polygamy as void, as offending articles 14 and 15 of the constitution.
4. To Declare Muslim Personal Law which enables a Muslim male to give a unilateral "Talaq" to his wife without her consent and without resort to judicial process of courts, as void, offending articles 13,14 and 15 of the constitution.
5. To Declare that the more fact that a muslim husband takes more than one wife is an act of cruelty within the meaning of seb-section (8) of section 2 of the dissolution of Muslim marriages Act, 1939.
6. To declare section 2(2), 5(ii), and (iii), and Explanation to section 30 of the HIndu Succession Act, 1956, as void, as offending articles 14 and 15 read with article 13 of constitution of India.
7. To declare section 2 of Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, as void , offending articles 14 and 15 of constitution of India.

The Horrible depictions in Movies “BodyGuard”, “Ready”, “Ghajini”, manipulative “3Idiots” leaves much to be desired for a Cinema goers. The once corporate employees being pushed out of the growth story or absence of it in USA, has alienated it seems a large section of the hitherto middle class. My god, are they angry, Once during the hay days of capitalism, It was these very fine folks who stood by the 1% elites and gave them their smiles and waves allowing themselves to be indulged while at the same time being burgled of the wealth they produce from hard paying labour in factories and offices. Going back home was an ordeal for these folks, Jostling along the highways into their tucked suburbs, They all lived a happy life, Or at least that what they thought. Until the day of unravelling began.
Markets crashed so did their savings too. Where did my money go said many. No one to answer them though. Who should nobody does, its capitalism baby that's how it rolls they were told!! Silently most wanted to ride out the difficult times, Fine lets stick it out together many hoped it'll only make them stronger. Politicians continued heckling the gullible middle class asking them to hate and be suspicious of the immigrants, They are stealing the jobs and oh my god here they come their children will replace yours they were told. Poor white folks rattled as they already more concerned they became from day to day the only thing they can do was wonder how we were how we have become!!!
Did the politicians in the senate or Oval office know what was going on. Of Course they started it they did know what was going on all too clearly for their own comfort. Coming up with fancy stimulus package to 'kickstart' economy they decided to pay the CEO/COO of the loss making companies their yearly bonus meanwhile the same companies continued 'downsizing' all of which the middle class continue to watch sitting and standing in lines and droves waving the flag of their proud country all the while. A few even blamed the rest of the world their own troubles, Poor souls hurt as they were pity was the only emotion many of on this side of the Atlantic ocean could muster for them. Pray we did that we would not suffer like them.
The fact of recession did hit us finally, Where were you damn devil, and it did hit us hard. M*therF**ker it did hit us hard. Jobs were lost, estimations of earnings were downgraded stock prices fell and our investments hit rock bottom. Gold continued a bull run, some of the speculators we gather have made a lot of money.
Where did our money go? That's a question we had to ask too. It went to the B**tard who booked out early before the stock crashed. That would be some explanation. The CEO/COO also continued their hopeless excuses and received their paychecks and bonuses too. We were angry but would occupying street corners do the job, Maybe!!???

Capitalism is here to stay , the alternatives of 1950s and 1960s have been a greatest disappointment. Capitalism will continue to suck the commoners and accumulate capital into hands of the enterprising and crony. The call for ending inequality is too idealizing and vague to achieve anything substantially sustaining. It may however be a call for greater participation of the middle class and the lower classes who will have to co-operate work in unison to ensure their beloved democracy don't end up becoming some guinea pig laboratories of a self -styled oligarchy all in the name of capitalism.

Sufi maha panchayat denounces Wahabi extremism

The Hindu - A leading English daily in INDIA has on October 17 2011 reported on AIUMB - A muslim sufi group denouncing "Wahabism" , Which is positive and opens doors of reconciliation

with the Islam about its status and participation in the Indian society. Which hitherto has been pushed to the margins due to a concerted campaign of the powerful right wing in Indian Mainstream.

The report said that AIUMB[all India ulama and mashaikh board] general secretary exhorting the suni muslims to hand over anybody who would turn up on their door fronts attempting to recruit them or their family memebers into terrorist activities. This is indeed very positive development allowing the moderate sufi thought to pacify the hawkish hatred and suscpicion filled ideology of wahabism.

The Indian URDU press has openly boycotted this meetings calling it an attempt to divide muslims, comparing the AIUMB to sangh parivar thus equating muslims to terrorists. Such a comparison indeed very unfortunate and unnecessary.

The AIUMB also highlighted the need to take back the control over the many madrasas from the wahabi followerrs who are funded by saudi money. The wakf properties and madrasas must be placed under legislative control so as to allow auditing of the accounts of these Institutions, This has been well received.

Better would have been if the uniform civil code be agreed upon and the subsequent legislative intervention then should have been in the direction of reconciling the religious differences and come to an agreement on the civil code that will be applied uniformly across the Indian union.

This would reduce the chances for future communal organizing instead we all can concentrate on the real problem of self emancipation and national evolution.

Caste Violence and Police inaction

On a Thursday evening, 13th Nov 2008 , two castes: Thevar and Dalit clashed in a bloody war. This happened at Ambedkar Law College in Chennai. A Dalit student waswhacked by around ten Thevar students by thick sticks. Such an barabaric incident had to be stopped , but instead the Law protecters or the so called Police were mute to that situation. Two students were hospitalised. This incident spread to Trichy, Coimbatore and Madurai.
The Principal of the law school, K K Devi was suspended. The Police Commissioner of that region, R Sekar was transferred. It is such a shame that such incident happened in a Law School. Is this what our Law Schools preach to the future citizens of our country? What Law is taught then? In a country whose Constitution was written and drafted by a single man, a Dalit, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, should'nt law protect his people? What was the Principal doing then? Is not the Principal responsible in bringing about culture and discipline among his/her students?

Leave alone culture, Did the Police require special permission to intervene to stop that incident? Such incidents must be nipped at the bud. The Police Commissioner and the Policemen who just stood mute to that incident must be sacked from their jobs, but our Article 310 and 311 in the Constitution says ," Any Government employee cannot be removed from service unless according to procedure established by law" . I feel this law must be amended. Such Articles are not fit for the Government servants of our country. Rather there should be a law where Government officials as in the policemen, the commissioner must be sacked, so that better accountabiltiy and responsiblity can be cultivated among these people.

Looking at this incident, one can feel that having the policemen around is just a waste. A waste of our parents' income taxes. Instead our parents' income taxes can be put to charity.
This is not the first time that the Policemen are being mute. There was this Jessica Lal case, Afzal Guru case, and me. Yes, I myself was an victim of this Policemen's barabaric attitude.
Policemen must keep aside their family and children to protect the society from such incidents. If they cannot make such sacrifices to the society then they must better stay off from the profession.
And about people who are already in the profession protected by our law, The Government must reform them. If cannot reform them, they must BAN the police, The Racist Police, The Crooked Police, The Wicked Police, The Corrupt Police, BAN the Police.

There are people who say, vote. Vote for whom? Vote for people who cannot stop this nuisance in our country? We have this "Jago Grahak Jago" who are propelling people to vote, to register for voting. I agree, this is a good movement, but first these Government officials must be woken up. Government officials are just content in making money, building mansions, buying property, buying jewels to satisfy their wives and children. Is it right to keep this people in service, to provide content to their wives. No, its time to wake up and call for a movement to stop such barbaric incidents from ever happening again.

We all are taught and preach that India is a God's own country. People speak about Globalisation, privatisation and so on. When such caste wars cannot be nipped at the bud, then India can NEVER be a developed nation by 2020. We must first forget about being a developed country by 2020. We must first join hands to eradicate caste system. In the words of Dr B R Ambedkar, "Caste System is not eugenic in origin. It is a system which embodies the arrogance and selfishness of a perverse section of the Hindus, designed to keep the weak and helpless under seige for eternity".

Silent Diwali
After a very long time, we finally decided to go on a trip. It was the first time after we moved to our own home that we were going out on a long trip. It was also the first time our brand new car, Alto was going out on a trip with us.

The day was fixed, there was so much of excitement. We started packing our bags, dreaming of the trip. The day we planned to leave Bangalore was on Dad's birthday, October 27. I packed some nice songs into my pen drive, so that I could listen to my favourite songs when travelling.
The time came, we finally left. I bid a silent good bye to my neighbours and my home.

Since I had not slept the previous day (I was busy updating my debut website http://www.theopinionmaster.t35.com ), I thought I'd hibernate when travelling.
As I slipped into my sleep, I felt as if I was floating in thin air. Then, suddenly my parents started screaming, some man was thrown off the ground. Our car came to a screeching halt. We suddenly got out of the car. When I realised what had happened, I shook . Some drunk man had come in front of our car. Dad, to avoid him turned to the left of the highway. The effect of hitting him, resulted in the front glass pane completely shattered. The hood of our car was damaged very badly. Our car had stopped at a dangerous position, any slight movement would have killed us all. The place where such a thing happened was nearby to a village. Relatives of the drunkard came rushing towards us. For an instant, I thought they would beat us to death. But then, it was that damned man's fault. Onlookers of the incident also confirmed the same. The man was rushed to a hospital. Our car's number was noted down. Call to the police was made. Meanwhile, a samaritan nearby came over and helped us. We removed all of our belongings and moved over to the samaritan's place. It was his farmhouse.

The way, that incident unfolded was as if, just like a movie scene. It happened in a flash of a second. My parents had literally prayed to every God on this planet. Is this fate? or Why was God so unkind? or Were we so careless?? . It can't be.... Dad is the best driver on this planet. Whatever it may be, we escaped unscathed. All of us were strangely and luckily safe. Strangely, the song that was playing in our car at the time of the accident was , "They don't care about us" by Michael Jackson!!.

The police arrived. Scanned the place. Our car was seized. The samaritan had some contacts among the police. They helped us when we were in dire need. The way the samaritan helped us, we felt as if, the Lord had himself come over to help us. Meanwile, I was praying badly for that drunkard so that he lives, he did live. He broke a leg(wish he had broken both of them) else the case would have become serious. My sibling stayed back with my dad.

The farmhouse, was a typical farmhouse. There were dogs, swans , turkies. There were some cute puppies. The minute I saw them, I forgot my worries. We sat there for a while, drank tea at their home. By the time we came out, we were to return back to Bangalore. We left in a Qualis to the nearest bus station. I loaded all our bags into the bus. I found a seat for me and my mom. As we left, my eyes were brimming with tears. I didn't know whether I had to feel happy or sad, more of all I was feeling guilty, because it was my idea to go on this trip. As I saw cars rushing past by us, I felt why only we?, why not them?, Why did that drunkard had to choose our car itself? .
The incident left me swearing never to travel in my car again on a long trip. I was back at home in the evening. I unpacked our belongings. We never thought this excited day would come to an end this way.
October 27th would remind us of this ghastly incident every year along with Dad's birthday and this festival, Diwali. A Silent Diwali indeed, to all of us.

Another teachers day

Teachers day, has arrived and will pass on.
My life has been shaped by Teachers and parents jus like most of rest.
School days were exciting,you know i used to be lively kid but then slowly i changed to quite guy,
My teacher a sanskrit to us,used to very cunningly give me less marks ,
no matter how hard i tried i would always end up getting less than 20 out of 25,
finally in public examination of 10th std,when i secured 116 out of 125,i realised the game this bitch of a teacher played,
i hate her for that, how can i forgive her?She was my favourite of the teachers,

During my college days , i heard of H Narasimaiah,affectionately called 'HN',he inspired me,
i wasn't that lucky to attend his classes,he had retired by then,but i made it a point to attend every programme,
where he was the chief guest so that i could listen to his speech.Those were the most memorable moments.
His death made me very sad,he was a brave rationalist,it requires courage to ba a rationalist when we are surrounded
by irrational people-stupid people.

College as an medical undergraduate,was embarssing and complicated also confusing,i met so many people,who
came from far off states,it was nice to meet and interact with them, it was mini india in BMCRI,blore.
but the teachers were the ones who disappointed me the most,they were assholes,in short to say.
No classes,even if conducted were monotonous,without any interest from the teacher he would jus walk in and
take attendance for half hour another half hour blaber some incomprehensible medical terms and occasionaly ask a question
which when not answered scold the entire class sying we were useless.
Occasionaly some of the teachers tried to change this by asking more questions but then the damage was done,we had all
lost interest in really learning the subject,rather jus attende the class for the attendance as 70% attendance was compulsory.
It was sheerwaste of 5 yrs of my life,i had hoped that a professinal institute will shape me into a complete person,
but at the end of 5yrs , i have become more insecure and lost.
There quite number of gold medallist during my graduation day which was conducted on April 16-17 2008,when i sat in the
audence and looked at the winners it striked me that all of them were those,who had a father or mother as a doctor,
Is this why they could win a gold medal? What the colleges there for then,if they can't inspire students to perform to
such an extent?
I would like to declare that 'I would have got a gold medal in all the medical subjects,if only there was a teacher who had said
'Anil you can do it'. but truth is nobody did.
Fuck you you low down mother fuckers,i'll never forgive those bastards.
Such teachers are respponsible for deacadent institution and severely compromise medical education.
